The love between these too is so heartwarming. To see them growing up together makes me so happy. He turns off his regular bouncy self and is the gentlest giant with his baby as she pokes and prods and learns to pet him gently. Watching them navigate and learn the world around them is so fascinating. He's also the most helicopter parent to her. When she crawls around, he doesn't lay down; he follows her every move and looks at us like "guys.... Cat’s First Baby / Dog’s First Baby by Natalie Nelson This book is a gem! A friend recommended it after seeing it on TikTok, and it’s become my go-to gift for expecting parents with fur babies. The author brilliantly captures cats’ personalities, and I’m sure she does the same for dogs (I just don’t have that copy). The story is a funny twist on books about welcoming home baby siblings— something you may get to help your firstborn understand what its like to have a baby brother or sister. In this version though, it’s the cat’s POV on welcoming the new creature – the baby. Reading it during my son’s newborn days was entertaining for us (which is important!), and now at 10 months, he’s cat-obsessed! For promoting language development and simple gestures, I point to the cat and baby on each page and repeat the word. And with any board book, we always practice turning pages.
