Here are some clips of my most recent workouts. I’ve been incorporating some explosive movements like kettlebell swings and the hang power clean into my program to improve my explosiveness and power for when I get back to doing acrobatics Another reason why I’m working on this is because as we age we lose power and coordination. I’ve also added unilateral movements to help me strengthen any muscle imbalances that I may have. Unilateral exercises can be very humbling and can also improve your balance I’m still doing heavy bilateral movements like the squat, press, chin ups, and deadlifts to continue to build strength and muscle. Building strength and muscle will always be a priority in my training, especially now that I’m heading into my mid 30’s. Anyway, hope all of you are having a great start to the week. Being a perfectionist, I’m often scared of failure & not doing things right... but strength training has taught me to be more comfortable with failing (as you can see here)... Failing is the only way you can find your limitations & then figure out how to overcome them. In the case of strength training, it’s testing your lifts (like I’m doing in these videos) ... And then working to surpass those numbers (ie. “Limits”) through proper programming & consistency. Nobody likes to fail, but if you are, that means you’re TRYING. You’re challenging yourself. I love training for many reasons - yes the physical benefits - but also because it’s given me confidence and taught me mental toughness. There’s been countless times I’ve walked into the gym carrying stress, emotions and anxiety. Literally breaking down into tears because I wasn’t feeling strong that day, physically or emotionally 😓 But I learned to not let that stop me...I pushed through my workouts, did what I COULD and always left the gym feeling better & clear headed. Over the years, I’ve become more resilient because I got through those tough days by putting my mind and body to work 🏋🏻‍♀️ Different things work for different people, but with working out, you get a 2 in 1 benefit. Physical strength is a gift you can give yourself, and it pays off many times over in all areas of your life. If you grasp this powerful concept, you won’t need the perfect amount of “fitspo-motivation” to workout. You’ll just do it because it’s part of what makes you better and makes you feel incredible. This is a tough post to write. I've put my heart and soul into 4 Star Gym for the past 12 years, but as of September 1st I've passed the gym onto the new owner Jason Kelske. My goal has been to keep 4 Star alive and I believe Jason will continue the legacy of the gym well into the future. 4 Star Gym has been a business in El Segundo for 50+ years. In those 50+ there has been the following seven owners: 1) Jim Fox started 4 Star Gym in 1969 time frame (I don't know the exact date) 1969 - 1976 2) Horace McKenna (Big Mac) 1976 - 1988 3) Bear (Steve Sirridge) 1988 - 1995 4) Dorian Bell 1995 - 2002 5) Bob MacKay 2002 - 2008 6) Mary and Michael Goff 2008 - 2020 7) New Owner - Jason Kelske A lot of people helped me make 4 Star Gym what it is today. First I want to thank Bob MacKay for selling the gym to me and giving me the chance to make a go at fulfilling the passion of keeping 4 Star Gym alive. 850pm: Stomach full of BBQ and completely exhausted from a very full day. Training motivation non-existent. I had every excuse in the book to just wait until tomorrow to do some training. • • You might think that because I’m a coach I love working out and super motivated to train all the time, but the truth is I’m just as exhausted and burned out as you. • • I don’t love training, training sucks. I love the sense of accomplishment after and the idea that I’m slowly building something, brick by brick. I don’t rely on motivation. Motivation comes in waves. I rely on habits. • • Ive been training pretty consistently for almost 20 years now and the key for me was a simple mindset switch. At some point I started to view training much like brushing my teeth, flossing or taking a shower. I’m rarely motivated to do it, but I know I need to do it every day, and I always feel better after. • • Now here’s the other key... you don’t need to destroy yourself and be a sweaty mess every training session. Much like your hygiene, keeping a 5-10 minute pulse on things daily can do wonders over time. You don’t need a deep cleaning every day, you need it occasionally. • • The habit of training is far more important than the duration or how intense you go. SPOILER ALERT: Destroying yourself in a single workout and not showing back up for a week isn’t going to get you anywhere. • • When I’m extremely unmotivated I make a deal with myself... I just have to do 5-10 minutes of some type of warm up or movement prep. If I feel good I can keep going, if not I have permission to stop. • • It doesn’t have to be crazy. I don’t have to hit some prescribed number. I just have to intentionally do something. That’s it! • • This simple strategy has resulted in more big wins than I can count and some of my best and most rewarding training sessions I’ve had in my life. • • 9:08pm: After a week or two of repeated failures and landing on my back, I landed my very first kip up. Then two more. • • 20 total minutes of training which started with a 10 minute timer and some movement prep. • • 9:15pm : On the couch, eating dinner, watching TV with a huge smile on my face.

Oh hey there, you probably didn’t recognize me with my glasses on. Let me preface this post with the fact that I despise posting shirtless pictures of myself on the inter-webs, but figured it would helpful for you to see my body composition results after training at home the last two months. • • At-Home Training all started with our 14 Day 200 Rep Daily Training Challenge, then our 21 Day Home Training Challenge, and now our 4000 Rep Home Training challenge. • • Over the last two months I’ve dropped about 10-15 lbs of fat, and my work capacity has increased dramatically. I’m standing taller, moving better, feeling great, and best of all, I managed to maintain most, if not all, of my barbell strength. • • 90% of my workouts have been done at home with no more than 50lb dumbbells, odd objects, bands and body weight. I’ve only been using my barbell gym to sporadically test my strength 1-2x per week. • • I’m on a mission to help 1000 people over this quarantine period with our training system, and because finances are tight, I’m giving it all away for free.
