Sohom Das współpraca @wydawnictwoczarnaowca Bardzo polecam, to treściwie napisana książka, w której autor wywiązuje się z obietnicy, którą zawarł już w samym tytule. Jest więc i zbrodnia, i prawo, i medycyna. Wszystko to okiem doświadczonego, praktykującego psychiatry sądowego i biegłego. Książka została podzielona na trzy rozdziały; szpitale psychiatryczne, zakłady karne i sale sądowe, co odpowiada kolejnym etapom w ścieżce zawodowej autora. Trzy miejsca, o których autor ma sporo do napisania. A pisze płynnie, ciekawie, przy tym bez naukowego zadęcia, bardziej to ciekawa powieść niż popularnonaukowa publikacja. Das rozwiewa fakty i mity pracy psychiatry sądowego. Na podstawie konkretnych przykładów opowiada o metodach badań i pracy z pacjentem, również nawiązuje do motywów działań przestępców, próbuje wyjaśnić w sposób medyczny ich postępowanie. Co do mnie przemawia, to fakt, że są tu opisane sytuacje i pacjenci z ostatnich 10 lat praktyki lekarskiej Das’a, więc bardzo aktualne, oparte na współczesnych badaniach. Ponad to, autor jest i rzeczowy, i życiowy, nie nagina rzeczywistości pod teorie wygodne medialnym doniesieniom, pokazuje trud wykonywanej pracy z jej zaletami i wadami. Przyznaje, że są pacjenci, których można zwyczajnie polubić, że dobór leków wcale w psychiatrii nie jest prosty, a obawa o “swojego” pacjenta towarzyszyć będzie przez cały proces leczenia. Nie ucieka od tematów trudnych; jak rasizm wśród personelu medycznego czy sytuacji kobiet w więzieniach. Wielokrotnie podpiera się danymi statystycznymi, bardzo płynnie wplatając je w treść. Das wydaje się lekarzem pełnym empatii i intuicji w stosunku do pacjenta, kimś dla kogo ważny jest kontakt z człowiekiem, a nie podporządkowywanie się algorytmom. BREATHE | MEET LAILA GOZZI Laila @lailagozzi is a dynamic performing artist and cultural economist, has been collaborating as a dancer with Kalpanarts since 2021. You could already see her in In Two Minds & True life, and now in Breathe. Before this engagement, she cultivated a diverse repertoire in the performing arts. Notably, she has been part of various pieces by choreographer Ann Van den Broek, worked for the visionary American theatre director Robert Wilson, and embarked on a concert tour with the rock band dEUS. Laila has also contributed to other projects, such as a film production by Rauwkost and a dance piece by Malcolm Sutherland. Her performative career started during her studies, where she danced in works of repertoire from Martha Graham, Jiří Kylián, Ton Simons, Juanjo Arques, and Kyle Abraham, among others. Laila holds a Bachelor of Arts from Codarts University, specializing in contemporary dance. Additionally, she earned a Master’s degree in cultural economics and entrepreneurship from Erasmus University. Currently, she is actively involved in publishing her empirical research about the financial independence of Dutch dance companies. Book Review - In Two Minds by Dr Sohom Das Book 130 of 2023 Dr Das is a consultant forensic psychologist working in different areas including prisons in the uk. In this book he tells his story of his career, his life and the people he has worked with. I picked this book up in the library on a bit of a whim as it was on the New books shelf and I really enjoy books like this so I thought I’d give it a go. This was a really interesting read, quite informative but also a lot of detail about the crimes that people had committed. Some were known to me and others were not and I found this particularly fascinating. I enjoyed all the backstory to the authors career and I was also interested to learn that they have got a YouTube channel that discusses the crimes and people in more detail - something that I’m definitely going to check out. Kevin Atherton’s In Two Minds, 1978, is a work in-focus from IMMA’s Collection currently on show in the Garden Galleries until 8 Oct 2023. In this video installation, Atherton converses with himself about the nature of the gallery space, the art object, the viewer, and critically the role of the artist and subject. Since 1978, Atherton has ‘re-entered’ his work to face fresh interrogation by and of himself as artist and subject, thereby generating updated versions of the work and giving the viewer a sense of a changed world and subject. Join us this Thursday 22 June at 6pm, for a performance and conversation with Kevin Atherton this Thursday performance of In Two Minds (1978 – ongoing), where in answering questions put to him by his twenty-seven-year-old self, he continues to both question his video performance from the 1970s and be questioned by it. The performance is followed by a conversation with Atherton and artist Sonia Shiel, that gives a humorous interrogation of a work that seemingly both binds the artist to his past and shapes his future.
