Lottie Hazell’s debut novel Piglet is about one British woman’s appetites – for acceptance, for respectability, and yes, for food. Piglet, christened with a terrible nickname by her family, is so close to rising above her working-class roots. She’s engaged to a wealthy man, Kit, and they live in a lovely house in which they entertain and show off their enviable life. But a few weeks before their wedding, Kit admits to have betrayed Piglet, and she is forced to decide whether to passively accept his apology and ride the wave toward her wedding, or stand up for herself and examine what she really wants. Why I picked it up: How could I resist that premise and that cover? Reading Piglet is like watching a slow trainwreck. Piglet unravels throughout the course of the novel, making bad decisions as her base impulses, most of which revolve around food, take over and keep her from expressing her true desires. She resorts to binge eating to avoid facing the reality of her depressing situation. As the wedding approaches, Piglet disassociates, going through the motions with her family and trying to execute her previous plans to bake a ridiculously complicated dessert for her guests. Needless to say, things don’t go well. Piglet isn’t a likable person, but as a reader, you understand her and what got her to where she is. The what-will-Piglet-do? question propels the book forward, culminating in the grim crescendo of the wedding and the crossroads of Piglet’s future. Overall, I liked Piglet. I wouldn’t call it an uplifting read, but it was very well-written and brutally honest. I listened to Piglet on audio. Trong những tác phẩm Nguyễn Nhật Ánh ra mắt gần đây, có lẽ, tôi ấn tượng với “Mùa hè không tên” nhất. Truyện mang lại cho tôi niềm vui, sự thích thú và cả rưng rưng nước mắt. Cuốn sách bé nhỏ này đã tác động đến tôi thật nhiều. Tôi cười vui ở phần đầu, sau đó, nỗi buồn nhẹ nhàng len lỏi rồi dấy mạnh lên trên khoé mắt. Tự nhiên thấy cay xè, chắc do nhà văn kể chân thật quá và tôi cũng thật nhập tâm. Mùa hè không tên không phải là một tác phẩm quá xuất sắc nhưng nó đáng yêu. Đáng yêu ở cách gợi lên hình ảnh tuổi thơ nhiều vui buồn của lũ trẻ làng Đo Đo bằng giọng kể nhẹ nhàng, mộc mạc, đong đầy tình cảm. Truyện khiến tôi nhớ lại hình ảnh mình thuở nhỏ, cũng thích nghỉ học, mong thầy cô ốm, cũng có nhiều trò nghịch dại, cũng có thương thầm, nhớ mong một người. Ở sách còn ăm ắp nghĩa tình bạn bè, chòm xóm, lung linh toả sáng là tình cảm gia đình thiêng liêng. Từng câu chuyện nhỏ, từng mảnh ghép cuộc đời đã tạo nên một cuốn sách đầy cảm xúc. Cái kết mở cũng thật ấm lòng. Nhờ Nguyễn Nhật Ánh, một lần nữa, tôi được lên thuyền quay về tuổi thơ miền quê ấm áp kỉ niệm. Cho dù sống ở thành phố, không còn lấm lem bùn đất, không còn leo cây hái quả nữa nhưng tất cả những gì tươi đẹp của quá khứ vẫn luôn sống mãi trong tôi. In 2019 I pick up a book for teenage girls. That is a great way to make you to remember how it was back then. After reading this book I am happy I am here at this present time and moment. With warm wishes I recommend every parent who has a teenage daughter to read this. 😆

#bookstagram #booklover #readingchallenge2019 Read in a language you can speak: Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol (in English) I've never before read anything from Charles Dickens. I do have been seen films etc. about his stories but actually never read a book. It is written in old English because it was originally published in 1843 and that makes it a bit challenging to read. Over 170 years the language and culture have changed, also the writing style of the words. That's why this book is an excellent way to learn more, and it is not too thick (118 pages) to be read twice. Not to mention about the story, which idea bears the time and is always (unfortunately) topic.

He writes in an interesting way. Despite he writes science books, his texts definitely are not challenging at all for even a child to read. I love his work because he uses latest information and introduces them in fascinating way. Great bonus for him is the simple fact that he includes references.

What a shame it is not translated. Hope it would be available in English. This is absolutely fabulous book about animals. It has it all you could not even dream about to find out! It is full of facts but her style to tell them is very interesting and not boring at all.

What did I think about it? It was really interesting. I can say my life is better since I read this book. I don't sleep anymore with my phone next to me, it always stays in the living room. Whatever I might be doing in the evening, I have a first alarm at 9.30pm to remind me to stop whatever I'm doing, another alarm at 10 to be in bed and a last at 10.30 to stop whatever I'm doing (reading or journaling) and start sleeping. All my alarms are vibrating through my fitness band tracker.
