Still working on my 'breakfast in bead and a book' Sunday morning routine here in Erfurt. Unfortunately, the bed is not that cozy and I don't have an oven - so, no freshly baked things for Sunday breakfast in the foreseeable future... Maybe I have to come up with an interim Sunday reading routine 😅 However, the book 'Perilous Times' by Thomas D. Lee is absolutely brilliant and highly entertaining! The Knights of the Round Table awaken in contemporary times and find a world in peril - sea levels rising, climate catastrophies, refugee crisis, earth robbed of her resources, a few private companies cashing in while the rest of the world goes to sh*t. So the knights join a group of eco warriors to save the world. If you like works by Terry Pratchett, Ben Aaronovitch, and Neil Gaiman, you might enjoy this book. #Sunday #sundaythings #sundaymorning #sundaybreakfast # #weekend #weekendvibes #weekendmood #weekendthings #breakfast #breakfastinbed #breakfastinbedandabook #abookforbreakfast #breakfastreading #readinginbed #book # #books #booklover #bookaddict #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #nowreading #thomasdlee #periloustimes

Self Care Sunday! We are not glamorous in this household! We don’t have aesthetics. I had breakfast and snacks in bed complete with crumbs between the sheets. My kids are using far too much screen time but Sundays (especially rainy ones like today) are about relaxing and taking care of yourself! Im reading the last chapters of Butcher and Blackbird to prep for tonight’s @ghoul_babesbookclub meet and the kitties are enjoying the snuggles! Sunday Morning reading in bed and drinking coffee. I havent done this in a while, but it's raining so I've delayed my morning run, hoping it will stop raining soon (ish). Currently reading Mile High - Liz Tomforde. And its exactly what I needed from a book, I cant remember the last time I read a sports romance...... Anyway Happy Sunday, I'm off to make myself another coffee as it doesn't seem like the rain is stopping anytime soon 😋 #sundaymorningvibes #readinginbed #currentlyreading #sportsromancebooks #milehigh #liztomforde #paperbackbook #booksgram2024 #bookblogger #popularreads #romancereader #insta #bookvibes #bookish ☕️📖

The wind and the rain is howling outside so today might just be a stay in bed and read day. It was so sunny yesterday I got sunburnt. How can it change so dramatically? Book 27.The Wrong Daughter by Dandy Smith. A really great psychological thriller. I spent half the night reading this one. ********************************************* The phone starts vibrating in my hand. It's my father. He never calls. Pulse racing in trepidation, I sit up in bed and answer. 'Caitlin,' he says. 'You need to come to the house. Right now. It's Olivia. She's back.' On the night when Caitlin and Olivia's parents leave them to go to a dinner party both girls are full of excitement about being old enough to stay home alone. What they don't see is the figure watching them through the open window. Who, after the girls have fallen asleep, will turn the handle of the unlocked back door. When their parents return, they will find Olivia's bed empty. Their eldest daughter gone. Never to return. Until now. But is the woman who claims to be Olivia really all she seems? And is everything Caitlin said she saw that night really the whole truth? Their family have dreamt of this moment. But could Olivia's return be what destroys them... #book #books #bookloversofinstagram #literature #readingtime #readinginbed #relaxing #metime #chillingout #reading2024 #readingnow #readingiscool #booknerd #readingchallenge #2024bookchallenge #goodreadschallenge #goodreads #fiction #thriller #psychologicalthriller #mystery

👸 WOMEN’S PRIZE SHORTLIST REACTION 📢 I was able to predict 2️⃣ of the 6️⃣! But that’s still an ordinary human failing (RIP) grade 🙃 My initial reaction ☝️ was that of excitement 🥳 The four books I’ve read from the list are standouts and I’ve enjoyed each one 🤸‍♂️ in very different ways. 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛ THE WREN, THE WREN was and is still my most anticipated read from the longlist 📋 so SUPER jazzed 👐 to see it listed. I kept and still plan to keep this one as my final read 🎬 from the list. I love making myself wait for it. Like c’mon me! Can’t I just? 🥺 NO! You gotta sit and wait and let the excitement fill to the brim 😤 My major sadness 💧 was not seeing 🙇‍♂️❌ ORDINARY HUMAN FAILINGS make the cut. I loved this novel and all its (majorly) flawed characters. But alas, tis the excitement of a prize list! I haven’t seen 👀 or heard 👂 much about 💤🤏 RESTLESS DOLLY MAUNDER, but I was definitely intrigued by this author who has won 🏆the Women’s Prize (2001) and been shortlisted for the Booker (2006). And I’m happy to see an Australian author 🦘 featured as we haven’t seen much love 💕 for Australia on these international prize lists recently. Fair Dinkum? Crikey! 🤪 So much to learn, experience and explore 🗺️ with these six shortlisted books - 🇮🇪 Ireland, 🇦🇺 Australia, 🇱🇰 Sri Lanka, 🇨🇳 China and the 🇵🇸 West Bank - motherhood, resistance, civil war, the expat experience, cultural criticism, regret, racism and women’s liberation. Next up ⏭️ for me is RESTLESS DOLLY MAUNDER and then I’ll finish off this list with, you guessed it, THE WREN, THE WREN. Can’t wait! (and big congrats 👏👏 to Isabella Hammad for winning the Aspen Words Literary Prize last night!) Will you be reading the shortlist? Excited or devastated by what made the cut? Tippetty-tap your feedback. Give it to me.

𝕄𝕣 𝔾𝕠𝕠𝕕 𝔼𝕧𝕖𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 - 𝕁𝕠𝕙𝕟 𝕄𝕒𝕔𝕃𝕒𝕔𝕙𝕝𝕒𝕟 𝔾𝕣𝕒𝕪 Thank you ZG Stories for providing me with this ARC. Publication Date: April 27 The open-and-shut case of the Fatal Flapper just won’t stay closed in this thrilling and immersive novel of 1920s Vancouver. Miss Dora Decker doesn’t look like the sort of young woman capable of stabbing her employer, stockbroker Ralph M. Tucker, twenty-five times with her high-heeled shoe; yet, thanks to a slow news day, she has become internationally famous as the Fatal Flapper, and the police are only too happy to make the arrest. Meanwhile, Ed McCurdy, former muckraking journalist, has traded his typewriter for a career reading radio news as Mr. Good-Evening, Canada's first “radio personality.” As a celebrity he draws resentment and paranoia from far and near, and he worries that the next murder victim will be himself. Inspector Calvin Hook scours the wet, boozy streets of gritty 1920s Vancouver, piecing together a mystery that somehow connects Al Capone, Winston Churchill and Brother Osiris, the leader of a mystical cult on DeCourcy Island. Mr. Good-Evening joins The White Angel and Vile Spirits as the third in a trilogy Gray calls Raincoast Noir. 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘥𝘢?

Finding comfort in the quiet corners of our minds, where stories unfold and worlds are born. Clifton Fadiman's words remind us that sometimes, the simplest pleasures like reading in bed, bring us back to the imaginative wonders of childhood. 👑 Book Review 👑 Twisted Games Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5) Alrighttttt!! I’m definitely glad I gave this book a chance after not enjoying Twisted Love! I was nervous to keep reading this series because the first one ^ just wasn’t for me BUT I’m going to order the last two now 🙃 As we all know I am a sucker for a good romance with spice 🤍🌶️ and this one does not disappoint! I really loved both main characters. Rhys and Bridget are in a classic I want them but can’t have them situation which makes it super fun to read! I smiled, I sighed, I felt for these characters throughout the story. Huang did a great job with this one! I finished this one in just about 24 hours and for a romance it’s pretty long (432 pages) 🙈 Read if you enjoy: 👑 royalty 😠 grumpy/grey men ❤️❌ sworn off love 🚫 forbidden love 🌶️ spice 👥 dual POV

Currently reading in bed: Everyone on this Train is a Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson I've been mildly sick for like almost 2 weeks now. At least I get to stay home from work and read more? 📖 so here's a minimal effort, no edit post to add some color to your day and mine. I'm on my neverending quest to catch up with ARCs. This one came out at the end of Jan. Thank you @marinerbooks and @netgalley ! I received the ARC after the release date and after I had already bought the book so I'm reading this one in three formats at once. BTW so far I'm loving how meta this book is and the humor in it. It made me legitimately laugh out loud multiple times already and I'm only 15% in. ❓What are you currently reading? ❗I'm also reading Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar for #ReadAroundTheWorld and The Granite Harbor by Peter Nichols which comes out next Tuesday! Blurb for Everyone on this Train is a Suspect: When the Australian Mystery Writers’ Society invited me to their crime-writing festival aboard the Ghan, the famous train between Darwin and Adelaide, I was hoping for some inspiration for my second book. Fiction, this time: I needed a break from real people killing each other. Obviously, that didn’t pan out. The program is a who’s who of crime writing royalty: the debut writer (me!) the forensic science writer the blockbuster writer the legal thriller writer the literary writer the psychological suspense writer But when one of us is murdered, the remaining authors quickly turn into five detectives. Together, we should know how to solve a crime. Of course, we should also know how to commit one. How can you find a killer when all the suspects know how to get away with murder? . . . #EveryoneOnThisTrainIsASuspect #BenjaminStevenson #MysterySeries #EveryoneInMyFamilyHasKilledSomeone #AustralianBooks #AustralianAuthor #CurrentlyReading #ReadingInBed #CozyVibes #BedMood #ReadingMood #Orange #Cherries #BookWorm #MultipleBooksAtOnce #QOTD #ARCreader #MysteryBooks #Murder #MurderBooks

Book 26. The Coldness of Objects by Panayotis Cacoyannis. Well, I don't really know what to say about this! I nearly gave up after the first two chapters but it has very good reviews so I carried on. It's dystopian, political satire. I was thinking 1984. No, 1984 was a good book, this is just rubbish. I'm not sure what it's point was at all. ************************ London 2030. When a postman knocks on his door, the news he delivers will cause 70-year-old Anthony Pablo Rubens to reflect on all the sadnesses and joys of the past, while he begins to prepare for the surprises of the future. The past still revolves around the moment in the summer of 1984 when young Anthony first realized he had fallen in love. The present is a Kafkaesque nightmare worse than Orwell's 1984, "a hideous world where people don't need to be watched by Big Brother." It's a world that Anthony has mostly shut his eyes to, but which suddenly he is forced to confront. And the future now encompasses the mystery, and excitement, and dread of a day as an exhibit at the National People's Museum. A dystopian political satire, The Coldness of Objects is also a story of loss, and of different kinds of love. #book #books #bookloversofinstagram #literature #readingtime #readinginbed #relaxing #metime #chillingout #reading2024 #readingnow #readingiscool #booknerd #readingchallenge #2024bookchallenge #goodreadschallenge #goodreads #fiction #dystopíanfictíon #politicalsatire

📚 Two ғor Tυeѕdαy 📚 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐿𝑖𝑏𝑟𝑎𝑟𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝐵𝑜𝑟𝑟𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑑 𝐻𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑠 Publication Date: April 30 Librarian Chloe Sampson has been struggling: to take care of her three younger siblings, to find herself, to make ends meet. She's just about at the end of her rope when she stumbles across a rare edition of a book from the 1960s at the local flea market. Deciding it's a sign of her luck turning, she takes it home with her—only to be shocked when her cranky hermit of a neighbor swoops in and offers to buy it for an exorbitant price. Intrigued, Chloe takes a closer look at the book only to find notes scribbled in the margins between two young lovers back when the book was new…one of whom is almost definitely Jasper Holmes, the curmudgeon next door. When she begins following the clues left behind, she discovers this isn't the only old book in town filled with romantic marginalia. This kickstarts a literary scavenger hunt that Chloe is determined to see through to the end. What happened to the two tragic lovers who corresponded in the margins of so many different library books? And what does it have to do with the old, sad man next door—who only now has begun to open his home and heart to Chloe and her siblings? In a romantic tale that spans the decades, Chloe discovers that there's much more to her grouchy old neighbor than meets the eye. And in allowing herself to accept the unexpected friendship he offers, she learns that some love stories begin in the unlikeliest of places. Beg For It She had never been more beautiful to him than when she was making him hurt. Corinne was young once. Reese wasn’t the first man she ever loved, but he was the first to submit to her. For awhile they had something special, but it ended badly. She’s a little older now — and the wealthy businessman who just bought the company she works for bears little resemblance to the boy from her past. He’s commanding, domineering, and seems determined to push her past her limits. In a flash of anger, she falls back into their old pattern—and Reese falls right in with her. Before she knows it, she’s testing him. Then tasting him. Corrine knows she can’t afford to get involved again. Her life is complicated enough without throwing in an old romance, no matter how new it feels. Now if only Reese would stop making her feel like the goddess she used to be…and showing her who’s been the boss all along. But if he wants her, he’s going to have to beg for it. #romances #romanceauthor #readingtime #readinginbed

WOMENS PRIZE PREDICTIONS 💭✨🏆 Tomorrow morning (super early 🥱 if you’re stateside like myself) we get the shortlist for the 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣4️⃣ Women’s Prize for Fiction! And this is my attempt to predict 🔮 where the judges might go. My prediction ♟️ is a compilation of books I’ve 💙 loved, books I’m excited to get to, books I think will sit well together 🤝 and a bit of random last minute switch outs for fun 🤪 (I switched BROTHERLESS NIGHT with WESTERN LANE literally just before this photo 📸 was taken and will be haunted forever 👻 if this was the wrong move). 🛡️🎬 IN DEFENSE OF THE ACT by Effie Black - {I’ve seen some serious love for this one. And from what I’ve seen, I think this one stands out from the others in topic and style} ⬅️🛣️ WESTEN LANE by Chetna Maroo - {I so enjoyed this tight lil novel back when reading the Booker and felt bad leaving it out!} 🪖⛵️ SOLDIER SAILOR by Claire Kilroy - {Loved this one. Motherhood in fic is extremely hot right now and I think there will def be some of that reflected in the judges minds} 🤙🧔‍♂️ HANGMAN by Maya Binyam - {Again, I’ve seen such strong reviews for this one in many readers I trust. This one feels different from the other listees in the style of writing. Feels unique} 🙇‍♂️😖 ORDINARY HUMAN FAILINGS by Megan Nolan - {My fav from the list so far! I was obsessed with the story and the flawed characters and i felt that each moment of this one had such purpose} 🚪👻 ENTER GHOST by Isabella Hammad - {The beauty of this book was subtle. And there is so much to unpack throughout that I think the judges will look forward to revisiting it} At this point, I’ve read 8️⃣ and I’m currently reading my ninth. And I still plan on reading HANGMAN, IN DEFENSE OF THE ACT and THE WREN, THE WREN, regardless of what comes about tomorrow ✨🤸‍♂️ What’d’ya think?! Am I so off? Will you be reading the shortlist?? Tippetty-tap your feedback. Give it to me.

Do you ever read books set in your home town? I loved this book set in Newcastle by Lucy Nichol. The main character, Charlotte, keeps apologising for things that aren’t her fault. After realising she ends all emails with “No worries if not!” she challenges herself to stop needlessly apologising. Then a moment on the metro goes viral and her life gets turned upside down. I loved all the references to local landmarks, use of Geordie language and storytelling in a place I love so much. ABBA.

TWO POSTS in one day 😂 sorry about me, I’m just so excited that I’m so close to finishing Pretty Girls and about to finally start The Quiet Tenant. I’ve been loving it, as gruesome and hard to read as it is at parts, but for some reason it’s just taken me forever to get through it. If you need me, I’ll be right here, curled up in bed with my books, a beer and some chocolate 🤪 #karinslaughter #thequiettenant #readinginbed #bookaddict #readmorewomen #horrorbookstagram #bookstagrammer #read #bookworm
