Confession: I have never been one to follow the crowd. I believe in breaking the rules. Forging my own path. Thinking outside of the box. Swimming against the tides. Marching to my own tune. I used to see all of these things as detrimental. I didn't really know where exactly I fit in. I felt out of place. I found making and sustaining friendships, awkward and exhausting. I carried too many emotions. Rambled when I was nervous and fumbled clumsily through life. I wanted to be like everyone else. They seemed so natural at everything. But as I grew older and looked more intently into how I was made, I leaned into myself and who I was created to be. I learned that we all have gifts that we bring to the table. We all have different personality traits and ways of going about life. We all have different comfort levels and different ways of expressing ourselves. Now I stop trying to be like the others and focus on being myself. Romans 12:2 says, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. I so want to thank each and every one of you for following along on this journey with me. I truly feel your love and support in so many ways. I so appreciate all of you who comment on and share my work. These things help me remain visible on Facebook and will keep my work showing up in your feeds as well! Thank you to so many who share their stories and experiences in such vulnerable ways here. I’ve heard/read Ephesians 2:10 lots of times, and you probably have, too: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (NIV) This passage was mentioned during a workshop I recently attended, and the speaker kind of breezed over this tidbit: the Greek word that’s translated as “handiwork” is ποίημα - or poiēma. When he said this, I didn’t hear anything else he said for the next few minutes because I immediately looked up the Greek translation, so I could see it for myself. I took three semesters of Greek—one which wasn’t even required—how had I missed this fascinating piece of information? I eventually returned my focus to the presenter, but this new information kept floating around in the back of my mind. After a few days, I stopped ignoring it and began to pay attention to my musings. I have observed that some people will just say “No, this is wrong”, “No , I don’t agree with you” , “What nonsense”,”I never heard about it so whatever you are saying is utter nonsense “ or “ Noo let’s do my way because I haven’t heard about your way”, “ keep your ideas to yourself because it’s shit”. And many of them will not even say all these but keep making faces till we are embarrassed. I just don’t get it that how your method is right and other persons way is wrong. Wrongggg??????? It can be different but not wrongg if they are saying with confidence na? You could be a kinder person and learn and accept their way too. All you have to do is try their way out too and then decide if you like it or not, right? Without even trying something how can you judge and simply say “No”. These are basic manners I guess. Unless it’s rocket science, everything can be done in more than one way and it’s shitty that your ego is so big to even let people try their way out. If you think you are the smarted then you are the dumbest as they say if you are smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room. Everyone is human in the end and even if they are the calmest person, it’s gonna accumulate and one day you are going to trigger them. So before it’s too late, change. Accept other people’s opinion too.
