We made it through Monday! Lol. Last Monday was when I tweaked my back, so I was proceeding very cautiously through today’s workout. Deadlift: 410lb/186kg x2, 3rd set Was assessing every set on the way up and through working sets. Each working set felt better than the last too, so I was very happy with that. RDL: 275lb/125kg x8 Been doing these beltless and strapless, but in an abundance of caution, I belted up, strapped up, and dropped the weight by 10% and just did reps based on feel. Light Circus SB practice: 115lb/52kg x2 per side, 5th set This was where I really took my time because ironically, “light” DB was where my back tweak happened last week. It was the second rep of my first working set where I felt it go. But today I was able to get all sets and reps in, so I was very happy about that! Finished with some Bulgarian split squats and a light sandbag carry run. I feel set up well to have a solid heavy DB/axle session on Wednesday and events day on Friday! Week one of my 2-week “justify going to nationals” challenge was certainly a roller coaster… Monday: Hit a training PR on the deadlift at 500lb/227kg. This was a big overshoot (should’ve been RPE8-8.5 but turned it into a 10) and I ended up tweaking my back later in the workout. I thought I was done. The inflammation was rough. I got kinda b*tchy about it… lol Wednesday: The back was still in rough shape so I couldn’t do my pressing events… again thought my Nats hopes were dead, but still came in training hard and hit a seated shoulder press PR at 200lb/91kg and some heavy lockouts with 265lb/120kg. Felt good about still getting heavy work in. Friday: My back still wasn’t 100% but started feeling much better by this point, so I was ready to push hard on my events! Hit a 40lb yoke PR with 700lbs/318kg. Did a 90% comp run of the sandbag to shoulder carry medley, which is the heaviest I’ve done. And did my first heavy farmers training in a while up to 230lb/104kg very comfortably! Still not 100% but I’m ready to give this week everything I have to hit the milestones I need to hit!
