A collection of fairies tales that we known & grown up with. Each of the stories has a little bit of twist but not as twisted as the Grimms' Brothers Tales. The book consists of 12 fairytales.
Also, the twist of each story is a combination of common sense meet logical thinking with a hit of magical. That is my best description 😅 for example, The Little Mermaid, who the heck in their right mind make a decision to throw their life away for someone you don't even really know.

Call me a clingy wife but I do a lot of things with him - grocery shopping, morning breakfast when he is not working, going to the wet market, reading at the coffee shop, cafe hopping, almost everything. We were schoolmates before but Allah’s qadr made us met each other again after many, many years so we did not really have a lot of time dating whatsoever. We do that mostly after we got married. So, the storyline of this book hit me. The story was about Sofea and Shafique when they met twice on fateful coincidences. It could be love at first sights but they never thought they would meet each other, yes, again. Little did they know, they had actually met a very long time before, all thanks to the friendship of their fathers. After knowing their fathers were bestfriends during a family dinner - love blossommed. They liked each other, but they wanted to set things on its own course, to see whether they suited each other. They wanted to get to know each other of course under the scrutiny eyes of their fathers and finally they got married. Like other married couples, the true tests might come after tying the knots. That is when we finally know the strength and weaknesses of our spouses. No exception for both Sofea and Shafique. Together, Sofea and Shafique accepted the bad and good of each other. Learning to give and take, and most importantly, having patience towards each other. That was until they faced perhaps the biggest tests of their marriage. One, was already hurtful, but both Shafique and Sofea were already champions of it. They passed. But, the unexpected one was the true test for both of them. It was a test of faith. This book has such interesting takes which I love where the FMC is the sort of villain in the story. I just love this type of energy from FMC!! Sometimes you just need a straight-up badass FMC to spice up the plot and I’m all here for it! I love Dianna’s character so muchhhhhh. 🥵🥵 Like she had a battle with a god WHILE WEARING HEELS!!! 🤯🤯 Even the other characters are just SO POWERFUL that you just can’t help but be attached to the characters (read, me) Also, I’m not trying to sell you by saying this book is an enemies-to-lover trope 🫣 but just imagine powerful characters that just HAVE to work together THE TENSION THE ANGST THE SLOWBURNNNN Just shut up and pick up this book 🤪 Oh ya, mind you this book is long and the second book is even longer 😆 I’m soooo glad that I have the second book because the way that the book ends IS JUST NOT ITTTTTT. Les Aeons font partie de la première civilisation secrète d’immortels, un mélange d’anges de plusieurs religions. Après une guerre entre eux, ils sont scindés en deux groupes, un groupe de 7 crée la cité « Au Cœurs des Démons », avec des lycans, sorcières, faes, vampires, etc… Dans cette cité, ils se font appeler les Anciens. C’est le célèbre Abel qu’on découvre, car il va croiser les beaux yeux de la belle Wynter, une sorcière un peu étrange. Une lecture des plus intense, vivante et sans répit du début à la fin. Je suis tombée folle amoureuse de tous les personnages (même les secondaires). Lecture en un jour où j’ai oublié de manger tellement, j’étais immergée dans l’univers de ce roman. Wynter cache un tel secret que je me demande si elle n’en a pas d’autres. Elle a une forte personnalité et un calme à toute épreuve, avec le groupe qu’elle a un peu normal. Abel étant l’incarnation de la jalousie, il ne déroge pas à la règle. Des scènes très 🌶️ sont au rendez-vous, donc préparez-vous. J’ai beaucoup rigolé avec Hattie et ses lectures (romances 🌶️). Cet univers reste moderne, mais rempli de secret et de non-dits de chaque côté. L’intrigue principale n’est toujours pas dévoilée, que cache le jardin d’Abel… Un rythme plein d’action assez rapide, et surtout sans ennui un seul instant. Comme toujours Suzanne Wright nous montre un style bien à elle, très envoûtant. J’attendais cette nouvelle saga avec impatience et je suis percutée par le travail d’imagination qu’elle nous donne dans ce roman. {24/2024} 4/5🌟 Crime Thriller (Fiction) 430 pages Holly Jackson has become one of my auto-buy authors. Well, you know I am a freak when it comes to crime thriller and Your Highness Miss Jackson here is the Queen of Plot Twists. Plus, this time, the plot centred around a true-crime show recording and (I think you know) I am such an enthusiast for a true-crime show, so this book came at the right time. I wanted to give a solid 5 rating in the beginning but changed my mind towards the end. I will explain later. Well, the story centered around Bel or Annabel Price who throughout her eighteen years of life had always been living inside the shadow of her mom’s mystery disappearance. Being the only witness didn’t change anything as it happened when Bel was only two - the age where she won’t remember anything that happened at that time, now. She was left at the backseat of her mom’s car when she vanished. Things were in the past and everyone moved on. The police investigation led to nothing. Bel had her own life; her father was the only person she had, yeah, besides her grandpa, her uncle Jeff and Auntie Sherry, as well as her cousin, her bestfriend, her soulmate - Carter. Not until the Price family agreed to be in a true-crime documentary that centred around “the Rachel Price”; yes, her missing mom. Bel just wanted it to be over as soon as it could, went with the flow, acted according to how any true-crime production wanted (iykyk), when someone decided to reappear out of nowhere. Motivational | 205 pages To tell you the truth, I have not yet read “The Alchemist”. Yeah, I know, I am extremely late to the party, but I have always heard and read great things about it. I know one day, I will. According to Coelho, “Maktub” will be a great companion while reading “The Alchemist”. A lot of the writings in “Maktub” were taken from the author’s past published writings between 1993-1994. As I went through the book, I realised, “Maktub” (and probably his other writings) is not a piece of literary that you would read and later dump on your bookshelf. It requires revisit. It requires deep thinking. We most probably could not relate to some of the content because we might have not gone through certain predicaments or situations from the writings. At times, we have to read between the lines, and reread a number of times to understand what is delivered. It took me quite some time to understand the in-depth messages, due to my rusty brain - but I think I partly got the messages and lessons, if not all. Coelho discusses a lot of spirituality meanings in “Maktub” as you can see in most of the writings. Coelho has also noted in the first sentence of the first chapter that this is definitely not a book of advice offering, but more to experiences exchanging. True, because from reading other people’s experience then would only we gain knowledge , wisdom and enlightenment. A recommended read if you have read, planning to read or are currently reading “The Alchemist”. A magical realism story follows 7 kids who were picked by the Wolf Queen to spend a year in the castle with a couple of rules to follow and treasure hunt to do. Honestly speaking, I don't really enjoy half of the book. I wished the half of the book could be a little bit thinner. But I do enjoy another half of the book. The build-up for the plot is so slow. I took the initiative to listen to audiobooks while reading it. It helps me to get through it. Also, I appreciate the mention of fairy tales. 3/5🌟 General Fiction | 384 pages I haven’t read the author’s first book when this second book of hers reached my hands. Despite of the lukewarm reviews I read about it, my principle will always be to witness with my very own eyes and perspectives before I trust other ratings. My verdict: This book might not be for everyone, including me. Perhaps, it was just my motivation while reading. You know reading while eating a meal is never a good habit - in my case, Raya food (probably I was not eating, perhaps I was more of devouring 🤦🏻♀️). The story brings us to the year 2017, at the University of Arkansas. It tells us about Millie Cousins, a super-senior resident assistant at Belgrade Dormitory. Millie just wanted to graduate, obtain a great job and buy a house (one she had her eyes on). Circumstances had somehow placed Millie to be where she was. Then, Agatha Paul came along. Agatha was a writer and a visiting professor who dreamt big for her new piece of writing. Agatha had found help in Millie when the latter helped set up interviews with some of the girls from campus. Not until Agatha had a newfound idea for her writing after talking to the girls. Together Agatha and Millie planned something out of ordinary in order to achieve Agatha’s expectations in her newfound idea and personal mission, thus causing rifts between them and their world building collapsed. I would have to say that this is a very character-driven story. Readers are introduced to a camaraderie of characters with all kinds and different personalities. Each of them had their personal missions and objectives to achieve. They were trying to survive. It certainly reminds me, and perhaps yours too, of my university years. Trying to be independent, fresh from secondary schools. Trying to fit in with everybody but you know there will always be one or two hiccups. Trying to make sure our CGPAs had an ascending pattern or else you would be called by your academic advisor lecturing us about what is life 🤣. Each of the characters in the story certainly taught us a thing or two as they were dealing with personal traumas, tragic and sad backgrounds. [continued in comment section ⬇️]
3.5/5🌟 General Fiction | 363 pages What do Margaret Atwood, Celeste Ng, John Grisham, RL Stine, and Emma Donoghue have in common apart from, yes, they are all writers? They wrote a masterpiece together. Thirty-six authors combined forces within their own forte, genre, writing style to publish a poignant, memorable stories that unfortunately happened during the you-know-when. Year 2020 was when it all began. The pandemic in its infamous name of Covid-19 hit the world unforgivenly. It was the time when we could observe, the untold truth of social classes division. More or less of what’s happening to the characters in the story. These people, the “left-behinds” were only able to stay put at wherever they were, in comparison to the rich ones who were able to flee the city to the comfort of their country homes and quarantined in style. They took refuge at their Lower Manhattan apartment building. So as not to be coped up being inside the whole time, they gathered every evening at 7 pm, at the buidling open air rooftop, where not only could they breathe the fresh air, but also to cheer for the essential workers. Soon, they took comfort in each other by sharing their anecdotes, stories and experiences. For fourteen days, which was the standard Covid-19 quarantine timeline, they supported and motivated each other despite the circumstances. The stories were narrated by the female superintendent of the building - described as someone who was direct, straightforward and point-blank. What’s interesting about these stories are they are all bylined. Meaning, you wouldn’t know who wrote which. I usually read the author’s notes after I finish reading a book, but I did the other way round for this book, only for the “kind reminder” that we could know who has written which at the end of the book. An infamous case in 1994 of January Jacobs, who had gone missing and was later found in the ditch hours after she was discovered gone. No one in Wakarusa would have forgotten January Jacobs. January Jacobs was a six year old who was loved by everyone and her death had certainly caused for the people of Wakarusa to consider her unforgettable. Twenty years later, Margot Davies, who was also January Jacobs’ neighbour and childhood friend returned to Wakarusa to care for her uncle Luke who was suffering from dementia. An uncle whom she spent most of her childhood with. After moving and growing up outside of Wakarusa, Margot had become a successful reporter but somehow, in the corner of her mind, she always thought of January Jacobs. She had always thought that it could have been her. The thought of the murderer alternately looking between hers and January’s house in order to pick the next victim always haunted her. Margot’s return to Wakarusa certainly ignited the curiousity in her as to what now - January’s perpetrator was never convicted. Never found. Coincidentally, another more or less similar case happened in the next town, Margot couldn’t help but to think there were similarities. Did the murderer decided to make an appearance after twenty years? Margot vowed to solve both cases. Margot sensed something was not right in Wakarusa. Everyone seemed to be hiding stories of their own. The deeper Margot investigated, the more “threats” she received. What could have really happened to January Jones twenty years ago? This is a debut novel by someone who has been so familiar with the genre that she is writing. Ashley Flowers is an American podcaster who hosted a top-rated true crime podcast, Crime Junkie as well as several others. Here came Trent Casey, who once resided in Stonesmere, who probably knew secrets lied within this small cosy town. Trent knew, he would have to expose the truth, but at what cost? Marty and Trent’s lives were revolving around and unfortunately intertwined around the same matter. What in the world actually happened? Did it have anything to do with the shooting? Je découvre l’auteur avec plaisir, sa plume est fluide, des personnes bien développées et une histoire en or. Vivement les prochains tomes. La plume de l’auteur est complexe, pointu et intriguant, qui m’a poussé à réfléchir sur l’intrigue du roman. L’intrigue est bien menée et troublant jusqu’à la fin. Un roman atypique qui est sur mélangée plusieurs genres pour notre plus grand plaisir. L’immersion a été immédiate, avec un peu de concentration et de calme, la lecture est un jeu d’enfant. C’est difficile pour moi de classe le roman dans la gamme thriller, ce roman ne peut pas être catalogué il faut le lire pour se noyer dedans et le vivre. L’auteur joue avec nous à chaque moment de cette histoire, sans nous perdre. Ne pas se fier aux apparences. Une histoire bien complexe, avec des chemins à suivre qu’il faut arriver à relier les uns aux autres. On se laisse dévorer par l’histoire sombre et léger. Matthieu est un personnage comme tout le monde, qui ne se met pas en valeur. Isabelle est énigmatique et important dans tout l’histoire. C’est deux personnages m’ont le plus marquée même s’il y en a d’autres tout aussi important, comme Aurore ou Judith. Le féminisme, la religion et la misogynie sont des thèmes abordés avec brio dans cette historie. Je ressens un demandé lâcher prise et d’amour dans cette histoire, du début à la fin. Tous les masques tombent et nous sommes surpris de chapitre en chapitre. This book really made me cross. I hope my ice cream can cool me down. 😤😤😤 The story follows mainly two women, two different timelines, two different generations. The first timeline, set in Palestine 1990, follows 17 year old Isra, who is set to get married by his father & moves to Brooklyn. Later, she struggles to adapt in order to meet her mother in law's & her husband's expectations. On the second timeline, set in Brooklyn 2008 follows, Isra's first daughter, Deya, who also meets her potential spouse. Deya doesn't want that. She wants to go to college, but her grandmother is firm on the marriage matter. Etaf Rum's debut novel really gets into my nerves. Because worried about losing and trying to reserve the culture, people willingly oppress others' feelings. Pride and arrogant also play roll in it, which is a common thing that I see a lot. MEET MY BABIES! 🐶🐶🐶 Lady is my first baby! She’s a border collie/lab mix and so smart and the sweetest baby ever ! She loves to cuddle, play with her brother, speak, and please! We adopted her from a local shelter (she was an owner surrender) and we had to teach her how to be a dog, but she learned so quick! She’s the best thing to ever happen for me and my husband ! Mickey is our second born. He’s a rat terrier/spaniel/collie mix. We got him as a puppy! He LOVES chasing squirrels, getting dirty, catch, loving on mom and dad, and being annoying.
