April is stress awareness month Personally speaking, my mental health has been a real struggle again. Why? I live alone. Very few friends here whom I push away. I'm financially strapped, and I'm looking to better my situation versus compounding weight on my shoulders and stretching myself out. My emotional health feels like a ticking bomb, regardless of exercise. I physically feel good, but I experience a couple of issues in the picture. If you have bad habits that are blocking you from creating good habits, you have to make the conscience effort to disrupt your current behaviors and get going on creating new ones. No negotiating with yourself. “I’ll just skip a couple workouts” “I’ll just have half a donut before bed” “I’ll just have one drink”. These seemingly tiny decisions will start to add up and more excuses will start to seep in. So what are you supposed to do? - Start replacing these not so great habits with better ones
 - Be aware when these thoughts pop up and recognize the negotiation and think first before reacting.
 - You can get to the point where these thoughts just start passing right through you and you can forget about them and go about your day.
 - When you’ve created a new habit, connect it to another habit and so on.
 - You’ve got a handle on your nutrition…ok, now let’s get consistent with your workouts. You will start to string these things together and that’s when the badass in you starts to emerge.
 - Know that discomfort is part of the process. Too many people just want to quit when it gets uncomfortable or too hard.

5 things I do each week to build better eating habits and to make it EASY to sustain ✅️ 1. Eat the same breakfast & similar foods for lunch and dinner 🍌 I do this simply to save time and reduce the need for extra thinking/planning from week to week. Variety in your diet is fantastic for your overall health & and gut, but to keep it simple and sustainable, I try not to change too much. 2. Set a day for a weekly food shop and stick to it. Be prepared and have a list 📝 3. Aim for protein + carbs + veggies in every meal. It's important to include healthy fats as well (with my nut butter consumption, they usually add up pretty quickly for me 😅) 4. Stock your freezer! Lack of preparation and especially a lack of food shop is my biggest trigger for poorer eating habits to slip in. Freeze foods to prepare for when you are underreprepared in the future! Foods that I find Freeze well: meat, fish, veggies and berries 🫐 5. Keep foods you love in your diet 🍕 I have pizza/pastries most weeks but usually only once/twice a week. At weekends I love finding new cafes, bakeries etc. It makes me happy, so I'm not gonna stop myself! What I will do is possibly reduce my meals from 3 to 2 OR focus more on steps and staying active (these are usually higher at the weekend anyways). Joining this gym has been one of the best decisions I've made since retiring! ⁠ ⁠ I've never been to a gym in my life & joining one seemed daunting & intimidating. But my physical health was declining & I needed to do something to reverse that. A SS&C advertisement popped up on my FB feed saying they were looking for women willing to commit 90 days. I had 90 days.⁠ ⁠ I was warmly welcomed and a workout program was thoroughly explained Separate from class, I was guided through the proper use of exercise/weight equipment. When ready, I joined a class. It was intimidating at first BUT the coaches did an AMAZING job helping me feel welcome, guiding me: tweaking here & there for proper form, continually encouraging me to push myself to reach my potential.⁠ ⁠ 90 days came & went and I'm still attending class daily. My physical health as well and my mental & emotional health have vastly improved. I absolutely LOVE it here! The coaches are awesome! The community of fellow gym goers is awesome! What’s so cool about Darryl’s transformation over the past 12 weeks is that his wins went beyond scale... I asked what he was most excited about, and he said: “Well first of all my increased flexibility and mobility is a game changer. Being able to tie my shoes/skates 🏒 [without taking breaks] doesn’t sound like much but for me is a huge thing! My food intake is no longer a stresser...” On our calls throughout the past weeks, he would also regularly comment on the positive mindset shifts he’s made and how proud he is about his consistency 🙌🏽, especially since he did diets in the past that just never stuck because they were overly rigid/restrictive. On his own, he had never committed to working on flexibility/mobility despite being into sports and working out his entire life… In the first week, he could barely sit into a low squat due to pain/discomfort. Now he’s hanging out there for a minute or more 🎉... “This is a lifestyle change” is always my favorite thing to hear a client say ✅ because for me, I want them to be successful LONG TERM. If it doesn’t work for their lives, it’s not going to last. As a busy hockey dad trying to balance career, family, working out and everything else on his plate, it was extra important we kept things simple. He learned to make decisions from a place of alignment with his values, which gave him freedom and balance. Amazing work so far, Darryl! Keep crushing it. (P.s. BAKED SWEET POTATO SLIDERS Super yummy and fun side dish, or a great appetizer. What will you use this recipe for?? Tell me in the comments after you save it! 👉🏻 @healthy.asa.mother for more great recipes and health tips WHAT YOU NEED • 2 large sweet potatos (800g) • 1 tbsp. olive oil • 2.5 oz. (80g) feta cheese • seeds of 1⁄2 pomegranate (50g) • 2 oz. (50g) pesto WHAT YOU NEED TO DO Heat the oven to 400F (200C). Wash the potatoes and cut them lengthwise into 4 slices. Season with salt, pepper, and rub with olive oil. Arrange on a baking tray and bake in the oven for about 30-45 minutes, until soft (the fork should smoothly enter the flesh). Thinner slices will be ready earlier. Once cooked, spread the pesto over the potato slices, sprinkle with crumbled feta cheese and pomegranate seeds. On the outside, I was lean, strong, and able to perform. But I was consuming tons of alcohol, lacking sleep, and dealing with extreme anxiety. On average, running a marathon will have you moving at 55,000 beautiful steps! For those of you clocking steps and for those inquiring minds! 🤔 🚶‍♂️🚶🏻‍♀️ Now, no need to run, or walk, a marathon (or clock in at 55,000 steps), but walking every day and at least 150 minutes per week (works out to 30 minutes a day for 5 days) will do wonders for your health, fitness, and longevity! Conquer your food cravings The next time you have a strong craving… Write down the answers to these questions: ▶ What are you craving? (A specific food? A certain flavor or texture?) ▶ Where are you? (Note your location, but also any smells or visual cues—like a restaurant billboard or commercial.) ▶ What time is it? ▶ What are you doing? (Driving? Working? Watching TV?) ▶ What are you feeling physically? (Shaky? Lightheaded? Tense?) ▶ What are you feeling emotionally? (Happy? Cranky? Rushed?) ▶ What are you thinking? (For instance: ‘I might as well eat this… I’ve already blown my diet.’) ▶ Who are you with? (Be very specific.) This isn’t a one-time exercise. Try it for a couple of weeks so you can see what patterns emerge. And trust us, there are almost always patterns. Weight is up 5 lbs (I swear it all went to my lower body 😅), food is high, lifts feel good and strong and I’ve been able to find a good balance between enjoying myself AND working towards my physique goals for the next time I compete. . On the days you feel like you’re making no progress, or you’re being too hard on yourself, take a minute to look back to see how far you’ve really come. What is it about the clock striking 3pm that triggers the yawns, the blurry eyes, and the fading of the computer screen in front of us? It’s usually a sign of something else going on: ❌Not enough food ❌Not enough sleep ❌Not enough water ❌Not enough carbs ❌Too many carbs and not enough protein And on and on…but it is usually not a sign of not enough caffeine, so that coffee may feel like a quick fix but it’s not, and it might even work against you if it impairs sleep that night, triggering a 3pm slump the next day. We don’t have to accept this as normal, BTW. We just have to figure out what’s causing it and go from there. I’m going to be real honest here—a “cheat day” is essentially a planned binge day. A part of the binge and restrict cycle. If the plan that you’re on is so restrictive that you feel you need to cheat, you’re on the wrong plan. We’re looking to build sustainable habits that allow you to meet your weight loss goals (or any goals for that matter), not a diet that you can’t stick to forever because if you can’t say you will keep the habits forever, you’re not going to keep the weight loss forever. Cheat days also imply that you are doing something bad. Food has no moral value. Certainly some foods are more nutrient dense than others, but no food is good or bad. The key is learning how to incorporate those foods that you see as “bad” within your diet in moderation. The whole 80/20 rule applies pretty well here—try to get at least 80% of your food daily from nutrient dense, whole food sources and leave up to 20% per day to have some of the fun foods that you want (I have a wicked sweet tooth, so even deep in a cut, I have an ice cream every day in my Ninja Creami!) #equilibriumstrengthandnutrition #redeyenutrition #redeyecrossfit #precisionnutritioncoach #balancednutrition #macros #nocheatdays

How can you eat rice and lose body fat every single week? Actually, you can eat bread too You can eat sugar sometimes You can eat potatoes You can eat CARBS You can eat the foods you LOVE I hear it in the DMs all of the time: “Wait… you’re eating rice? Isn’t that BAD to get toned? Doesn’t that make your waist hold fat?” No it does not. Not even close. Only one thing does that: Eating too much. Being inconsistent with calorie intake and/or tracking only makes figuring out exactly HOW MUCH you need to eat harder. If getting lean and fit meant not eating carbs or my favourite foods forever, I would not be fit. If I had to give one tip, the most important tip to get to your goals would not be caloric deficit. It would be CONSISTENCY. Consistency has been shown time and time again as the number one reason why people succeed, not only on their diets, but in their life as well. Consistency is extremely powerful, both ways. Fighters train in specific areas but we can take a page from their book to incorporate some smart strategies into our own training. One of them being the circuit…a mix of EMOM and MetCon (Metabolic conditioning) will give you a killer workout in less time. The idea is to hit your full body with a mixture of exercises with minimal rest time. I personally do a lot of EMOM because the timer does most of the work. I write down the exercises and reps but I don’t have to worry about the “what set am I on” problem. I just set the interval timer and gooooo! If you’re looking to improve speed, strength, flexibility, cardio health, endurance, stamina, all while shedding body fat then this could be your ticket. Believe me, a 30 min killer EMOM circuit hitting your full body will leave you dripping in sweat and satisfied. *insert most unpopular opinion I have* So many people assume alcohol HAS to be a part of their lives…it still can be, but maybe not the degree you think. And maybe you’ll find you don’t even miss it when you do cut back. There is zero downside to cutting back on alcohol. It might feel weird in social situations at first to not have a drink in hand, but that goes away after some time and then eventually becomes your norm. It also never fails to amaze me how many people are looking for a “quick fix” - and this is probably the closest thing to a “quick fix” we can get (there are no true quick fixes but that’s a convo for a whole other day.) How do you know if your nutrition plan is working? 🤔 . There a loads of different metric you can use - and the above list isn’t exhaustive; there may be some progress markers that are personal to you and what you want to achieve through your diet 🍝 . However, I would recommend using a couple of different methods to track your progress so that you get a more “complete” picture of how things are working for you, and therefore if you need to make any changes or adjustments to your nutrition habits in order to achieve your goals 🎯 . People often slate scale weight these days, but it can be a useful measure as long as you understand that it will fluctuate from day to day, so focus on the overall trend. And, it doesn’t tell the whole story either like your body composition, which is why it’s helpful to add in other methods like progress pictures or how your clothes are fitting👖 . No matter what your goals - whether it’s body composition changes, fuelling your workouts better or just eating to live a healthier, more energised life, there are metrics you can use to track your own individual progress! 📈 . You typically don’t stay at your leanest from a fat loss phase. When you reverse diet, it typically cones with a littleeeee bit of fat gain. Which might make you go 🤬 But this is a good thing - it puts you in a healthier place metabolically so that weight you end up at is easy to maintain. And when the scale goes up a few pounds, it’s not all fat gain - it’s increased food volume and water retention, and a lot of the time that increased water retention leads to poppin’ muscles. Of course you don’t gain ALL the fat you lost - then there would be no point, right? But don’t freak out if/when you gain a little bit - it’s a GOOD thing. Swipe for healthy + high protein meal ideas for when you’re short on time ➡️ - bbq chicken pita pizza with a side salad - greek yogurt w/ protein powder, mango, banana, chia seeds, and honey - chicken feta salad with blueberries & apples (use a rotisserie chicken to save even more time) - bbq chicken sandwich with air fryer sweet potato fries + cucumbers (the crockpot makes this yummy bbq chicken so easy!) - teriyaki salmon stir fry w/ @drinkolipop - apple cinnamon protein oats - banza pasta with chicken meatballs & frozen veggies - turkey + cheese sandwich on daves killer bread w/ triple oikos yogurt and strawberries All of these recipes are high fiber with at least 20g of protein and are some of my staple meals!
