4/5 〰 I found out after I read this that it’s the third in a series but don’t let that stop you. A stellar small town enemies to lovers romance with a cast of warm and endearing characters, this was a delight to read. Bonus points for the quaint Ontario town. 4.5⭐️ out of 5 Sandcastle Beach is the third novel in the Matchmaker Bay series and I absolutely adored the romance between the two leads. With characters from previous books popping up in this one, I'd say it's worthwhile to start at the beginning of the series before reading book 3. You could read it as a standalone but it's fun to know more of a detailed backstory of the other couples in the book. Out of the many scenic small town romance series I have read, Matchmaker Bay has earned a spot at the top of my favorite list. Maya Mehta needs a big influx of cash to keep her town's community theater open. She's hoping to convince a former pop star turned actor to take part in one of her productions to garner some media attention. She also wants to win the business grant offered by her town of Matchmaker Bay. One problem though, is local bar owner, Benjamin "Law" Lawson, has also applied for the grant. Let's just say Maya would hate to lose to him of all people. The story alternates between Maya and Law. So yeah, this is an enemies to lovers romance but it's pretty lighthearted in tone rather than a super strong hatred. When I read the previous book in the series in which they were supporting characters, you could just tell the author was setting the stage, so to speak, for a future romance. One thing that is cool about this book is the timeline overlaps some with the second book. So you also get bits and pieces of Nora and Jake's relationship playing out but from the perspectives of Maya and Law, if that makes sense. Good chemistry, likeable characters, a picturesque setting, yummy food descriptions, humor and a good plot centered around chasing your dreams. What's not to love? 📖 MARCH WRAP UP 📖 Well, I gotta say March was an excellent reading month for me. (Writing reviews is another story though. 😂) I read a ton of books, some which didn’t make it into the photo because they were library loans. It had been awhile since my last visit and I know I need to go more often because it’s a self-care thing and good for my mental health. Yesterday I finished Sandcastle Beach, which is the third book in the Matchmaker Bay series by Jenny Holiday and it is such a fun, humorous, feel-good romance. Full disclosure, I did skim through the steamier potions because that’s just not my thing, but I adored all the rest. I loved the two main characters and their witty-enemies, not-really-enemies banter. I loved the supporting friendships, on both sides, and the meddling elders who are spunky and so much fun. The entrepreneurial spirit was interesting, as well as the theater angle. This story is engaging and light-hearted and a thoroughly entertaining summer read. What are you reading today? Have you ever vacationed on a lake? Reading the Matchmaker Bay series has me ready to pack my bags to travel to a quirky lakeside town for some sun and fun. Sandcastle Beach by Jenny Holiday - 4⭐️ I always look forward to another book by Jenny Holiday. She really knows how to mix humor and some steam into a heart warming romance, and Matchmaker Bay was no exception. I’m just sad that this series is now complete. I’ve been waiting for Sandcastle Beach to learn more about the feud between Law and Maya. In the previous 2 books when these 2 were in the same room, neither gave up an opportunity to get under the other’s skin. The enemies to lovers in this one didn’t disappoint. As in the previous 2 books, I loved the meddling older group of town residents who made it their mission to know what was happening in town and magically intervene for the good of the younger residents. The chemistry and banter between Law and Maya was amazing but it was quite a slow burn to get to that first kiss. Some of my favorite scenes were the quieter moments spent together before they got together as a couple. Read if you like: - Enemies to lovers trope with sizzling banter - small town romance, especially when set in lakeside Canadian towns with some quirky traditions - grumpy heroes who show affection in small and meaningful ways - close friend groups that are there for one another As the third book in the Matchmaker Bay series, Sandcastle Beach can be read as a stand-alone but I recommend picking up the first 2 books for the full experience of this magical small town. 𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨 14. Sandcastle Beach (Jenny Holiday) . Do you prefer the ocean or a lake? . As a professional stage manager, this book hit near and dear to my heart. I grew up in community theatre and it shaped who I have become as a person and in my career. Maya loves the community theatre she has built from the ground up more than anything, and she will stop at nothing to save it. She is the strength I want to see in all female characters; she doesn't wait for a man to swoop in and solve all her problems. Law also owns a business in town, and he values it's place in the community as much as Maya does. This is definitely a slow burn romance, but it is well worth the wait in anticipation of the will they, won't they figure it out dynamic. I haven't read the first two books in the series, but I had no trouble picking up the story, and am excited to go back and see some familiar characters in the earlier novels. . My only complaint is that Maya constantly wears her costumes out of the theatre and to the bar! There is no theatre practitioner that would do that! Especially not as the owner of a cash-strapped community theatre...I spent so much time worrying that she was going to ruin a particularly important costume piece with a spilled drink!! As a plot device it worked, but it pulled the curtain back a little for me. I’m sure most readers wouldn’t notice or care about that. We usually go to Lake Huron for beach days, so when I heard about this romance book that’s set in a small town on the edge of Lake Huron, I knew that I had to read it! 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 Sandcastle Beach | Jenny Holiday #gifted ☀️ where do you like to vacation? Beach? Mountains? Disney World? Sandcastle Beach is the third book in Jenny’s Matchmaker Bay series. It follows bar wonder Benjamin “Law” and theater owner Maya, who are sworn enemies. I am a huge HUGE fan of this series. The first two books I binged so quick, then gave them to my romance loving Nana who proceeded to tell me “Molly! Those books were....(fans herself)” 😆 so when Sandcastle Beach came out earlier this year I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! I’ve been waiting for Law’s story! I really enjoyed his and Maya’s enemies to lovers journey and watching her soften and learn to open up and trust Law. It had the classics Matchmaker Bay charm with the small town, meddling elders, and the whole crew throughout the book. One that that was a bit harder for me was it was a SLOOOOOOW burn. Slow. I think if I would have known that going in I wouldn’t have felt the dragging so much, but I really wanted them to just GET TOGETHER! Overall I’d definitely recommend adding this entire series to your summer TBR! I haven’t heard but really hope this isn’t the last one! Good morning my little land mermaids 🤗 💭 Warm weather or cold weather? Or are you an all-seasons person? It’s been 80 degrees the last two days and so mentally I am on a beach drinking margaritas because my brain is fried and somehow it is only Thursday but at the same time omg we made it to Thursday and also how do I get to a beach with margaritas? I am an all-seasons person, however I do love to plummet face first into the next one early and rush them along so while it’s barely spring, I am READY for sunshine and summertime. Luckily I have some books on hand to support that dream and they can transport me to a small seaside town where the grumpy and sunshine enemies are destined to become lovers à la Hallmark movie. 100. Sandcastle Beach Matchmaker Bay #3 by: Jenny Holiday 7/10 Sandcastle Beach is the third book in the Matchmaker Bay series, and it was just as sweet as the first two. Maya (owner of the town theater) and Law (owner of the local bar) have been snapping at each other since the first book, and this has a classic enemies-to-lovers trope. The two also fight over funding from the town - their professional lives at odds with their personal ones. I thought this book was really fun! I loved Maya and Law’s snappy rapport. Overall, this is a fun series that isn’t too steamy - the perfect beach reads for summer. I’d read them in order if I were you - each book builds on the other. (Can you tell I still have a long time until summer? All I want to do is read on the beach!) I absolutely adored A Princess for Christmas, so I was very excited to read this one by the same author! This is a small town slow burn romance that also has an enemies to lovers trope! It also has some meddling elderly townsfolk, and I think that’s just really endearing. Maya and Law have an ongoing feud, and I mean ongoing. This book has some giant chunks of time, where all of a sudden it’s 6 months later and not much has changed. You can tell where it’s headed, but it surely takes its time getting there! They have witty banter, but also an obvious friendship that neither character realizes, and some very slowly rising chemistry. I have not read the earlier books, and didn’t feel like I was confused about the past of either character, so it can definitely be read as a standalone, and it would make a nice beach read this summer!

Benjamin has run his family's bar for a long time but he's thinking of expanding and opening up a restaurant. If you have read this series, you know the older generation- the matchmakers will get involved in their lives. They come up with a grant that will go to one winner and Maya and Benjamin both want it. So begins a war of sorts. I love the old people. They are so good at their matchmaking and you just know how it's going to end. I love the "when will they?!" thoughts you get while reading and when you get there.....
