It’s race week! And our legs can already feel that Galgeberg stinger at the end. We have been lucky to have received a few new frames and bikes for our Community Connect fleet and lucky for Laz, he’s the first to be riding the kettensäge tomorrow. Laz says he “thinks he can survive the day to the finish!” The plan is pretty simple, “don’t go out too hard too early,” and hopefully he’ll be able to “collect some numbers on the monster climb up!” Some advice from Laz, who suffered a hard race last year and almost got caught by the lanterne rouge… “Try to sit with a nice bunch. Check if you belong there, because there’s always some serious stuff going on and attacks from everywhere so you don’t want to get too excited and then blow up too early. So, set a good tempo that you can maintain! Also, fuel! Don’t forget to eat, because it happens too easily. If you find yourself hungry, you’ll be on a downward spiral to a bonk, and pretty much done for the day from there. So eat! I have a reminder on my computer for this exact reason!” It’s the Gallows weekend. What possibly could go wrong? Good luck - because you’ll definitely need it. Levante la mano a quien le cuesta organizar la alimentación cuando compite a la tarde o noche🙋🏼‍♀️ Casi todas las competencias de outdoor track son a partir de las 6 de la tarde para evitar el sol y el calor. Esto es una transición que me tuve que acostumbrar y que me llevo mucho tiempo descifrar. Siempre fue difícil para mi encontrar el balance entre comer lo suficiente para tener energía pero no comer demasiado y terminar con GI issues en el medio de la carrera. Si esto te suena famiiar, acá te traigo tips faciales para ayudarte a que encuentres la mejor forma para que vos vayas a tu competencia “well fueled”: 1️⃣ Come un desayuno grande y enfocado en hidratos de carbono. Esto asegura que llenemos nuestro tanque después de haber ayunado mientras dormimos. Esta es la comida mas lejana a la competencia y es esencial capitalizar en ella. 2️⃣ Asegúrate de comer bajo en fibra y bajo en FODMAPS. Esto te va a ayudar a que no haya residuo en el GI tract y que no tengas problemas 💩 durante la carrera. 3️⃣ Hace un almuerzo 3 horas luego del desayuno. Es importante que este sea de fácil digestion y KISS (Keep it simple stupid) 4️⃣ Come un snack alto en hidratos y bajo en grasa, proteína y fibra. Esta comida trata de hacerla por lo menos 90 minutos antes de la competencia. 5️⃣ Recupera con hidratos y proteína post competencia inmediatamente después del cool down. 6️⃣ Si bien después de una competencia queremos celebrar con comida, trata de que la misma incluya una buena fuente de proteína, carbs y color (verduras y frutas). Esto es esencial para ayudar a la recuperación. También acordarte de hidratarte de manera regular durante el dia y de incorporar electrolitos. Esto puede ser mediante la alimentación (sal, productos enlatados o snacks como pretzels) o a través de productos como @pedialyte , @liquidiv , @nuunhydration o @drinklmnt Este es solo un ejemplo y es necesario hacer adaptaciones si tu carrera es antes o después de las 7 pm.

Pre race day easy miles this morning but boy was it roasting. . The plan was to slow right down and not look at pace. . Mile 1 was perfect at which point I switched to HR and *thought* I kept pace but boy was I wrong (pic2). . It felt good but each time a mile ticked by I thought “fcuk, I need to slow down” and just didn’t learn🤣 (story of my life right @veganrunner_taylor 😜🤣). . Managed to keep the HR largely in zones 1 & 2 but again, I need to learn and ensure I keep the majority of my easy runs in zone 1 (pic3). . All good learning experience but my anxiety is sky high for tomorrow’s race….i mean sky high!! . Pretty ridiculous really, but that’s the truth. I know what I need to do so will go out steady and work through the pace as I go 🤛🏻 . However, I have jarred my left calf on the stairs this morning and boy is it SORE! Plenty of ice and foam rolling to hopefully ease it down and I pray I can actually run tomorrow night. . Eine kleine Recom Wanderung auf den Hochgern war die letzte Einheit vor dem CTR. Nebenbei konnten wir schon einen Teil unserer Laufstrecke auschecken. 15km und 1.200hm waren allerdings schon ein bisschen mehr als ursprünglich geplant und für mich noch einmal ein letzter Test was die Hüfte mit so einer Belastung macht. Glücklicherweise hat sie sich nicht gemeldet und mir damit sehr viel Selbstvertrauen für das Rennen zurückgegeben. Und wie das Rennen nun gelaufen ist? Copenhagen marathon 🇩🇰- Del 1 : Pre race Äntligen var maratonhelgen här. För det var målbilden: en hel helgs final av all min nedlagda tid. Förberedelserna hade pågått länge, dels all träning men även mental förberedelse och så allt praktiskt därtill. Och ja, såklart jag hade checklista på allt - vem överlever utan?! På fredagen, två dagar innan loppet gjorde jag en “shake out run” på ca 3km, skön prestigelös löptur men lite olika inslag av fartökningar och “trams”. Fick en go’ o trygg känsla, som tur väl var. Sen bar det av mot Malmö. Jag och supportrarna (min älskade man och barn) tog en hotellnatt där, på lagom avstånd från “tävlingszon”, på trygg och välkänd mark. Nerverna som hela veckan hade spelat ett spratt hade nu lugnat sig och jag kunde verkligen njuta. Asiatiskt till middag på Lilla torg till allas glädje. Efter en skön natts sömn blev en lugn morgonjogg i staden som vaknade, mest för att hålla runstreaken vid liv. Så härligt att få dofta på syrener, våren och få till en go känsla i kroppen. Njöt sen länge och väl av en rejäl hotellfrukost. Vidare över sundet till Danmark och första stopp Copenhagen Marathon Expo, alltså nummerlappsutdelningen. Tygkassen med MIN finishertröja (wow wow), supporterskyltar, karta och MIN nummerlapp hämtades. Vi provsmakade öl, sportdryck, proteinbarer. Avverkade expot ganska snabbt och köpte med oss lite ätbart och satte oss för lunch i parken utanför, tillika start- och målområdet. Nyp mig i armen mysigt att få ha med familjen på detta äventyr. Fyllde på med vatten och energi kontinuerligt under dagarna, där skulle det inte brista. Mot hotellet och en tur med lite sightseeing på stan. Kul att spana in var jag skulle komma att springa dagen efter. Men efter nån timme ville benen vila = förtugg på hotellrummet o benen i högläge. Så skönt! Middag i mysiga Nyhavn, hamburgare med kokt potatis - klockren uppladdning men skeptisk servitör. Väl tillbaka på hotellet lades loppkläderna fram, väskorna packades och allt stämdes av - flera gånger om. Klockan, mobilen och airpods på laddning. Check! Sen hotellkudden och väckarklockan på 05.50. Men skulle jag kunna sova? Skulle nerverna börja spöka igen? Fortsättning följer…. 😉

Unpictured: the many photos of fish from the market I also took for him earlier in the day, now a tradition when I travel. It delights him and I love delighting him. It’s also very easy. 👉 How to fuel the TRAINING WEEK. The nunber one principle of high performance eating is to meet the bodies demands by fuelling for the work required. If an athlete is weight-stable, they're most likely eating an adequate amount of food and calories across a 7-day period. However, they may not be eating the correct amount of food each DAY to maximise both performance and physical development. To ensure you're providing the body with an appropriate amount of fuel each day, we need to periodise our nutrition in the same way we periodise our training. Think of your calorie and carbohydrate intake as a dimmer switch. T- 2 days 📍 @hyroxuk HOW ARE WE ALL FEELING? Suddenly more sore/ tired/ ill/ new injuries seem to be emerging ?😅🫠Taper can make you feel all kinds of screwed 😂 After peak week when your adrenaline is at an all time high, it’s normal when we finally start to slow down on taper week our body can have a field day and the immune system can seem to shut down if we have maybe pushed a little too hard… As your cortisol starts to come down with the training volume, it’s also normal to start feeling your niggles a little bit more. Not only have I had pre patellar bursitis develop after falling off my bike in jan (my knee is pretty fat rn lols) but now my other knee has decided to hurt 💀🥲 along with my energy levels seem to be hitting the floor😂it really feels like 30 is approaching. ANYWAY this is pretty normal. Don’t be disheartened and trust that the extra rest you are giving your body before your race will be put to good use. REMEMBER: start to carb load 2 days prior (try to aim as high as 1.6g per kg of body weight ! Yep. A lot. Just a lil pre race that felt really good!!! 🥳🏃🏻‍♀️💕 I’m so excited (and nervous 😬) for my race tomorrow!!! It’s at the University of Texas and is a really competitive meet… there’s even an Olympian (Gabby Thomas) running the 400! Of course she’s in the first heat and I’m in the last hehe 😉 But I’m feeling really good and exited for another opportunity to compete with some college girls! 🙌🏽🔥 This will most likely be my last college race (but may be able to squeeze in 1 more!) as their conference meets are quickly approaching! 🤩 We love seeing a pre-Swimathon #FlatLay 🤩 This one belongs to @lara.p.f who's taking part in her first Swimathon this year - not 1k, not 5k but she's diving straight into the Triple 5k challenge..... And doing it in 1 day... tomorrow! Lara's doing it with a friend, they're both part of the Saxon Crown swimming club in Lewisham and she says "We wanted to really challenge ourselves, and for an amazing cause!"
