After graduating from Midlothian High School, he attended Baylor University on academic scholarships. Perry earned a BBA with a concentration in risk management, which led him to a job in investment management after graduation. He has worked in both active investment management and personnel management in that field. Ho estrapolato questo pezzo di frase contenuta nella quarta di copertina, perché riassume in modo soddisfacente quello che si andrà a leggere sfogliando le pagine del terzo libro del Dr. Melvin Morse, scritto insieme a Paul Perry. "Visioni di congedo" parlano proprio di quelle visioni che hanno le persone quando perdono qualcuno. Ma non solo; le visioni possono anche riguardare le nostre guide per confortarci o anche, in alcuni casi, per darci una mano. Le visioni possono accadere anche a chi ci sta lasciando. Difatti molte persone che hanno malattie terminali, nell'ultimo periodo della vita iniziano ad avere queste visioni. Lo scopo che ha questo libro è quello di far capire alle persone che avere queste visioni non è una cosa anormale o uno scherzo della mente. É riferito anche ai dottori e infermiere; in quanto molte volte quando i pazienti dicono loro di avere avuto visioni, dicono a loro che era un'allucinazione, o addirittura che stanno mentendo. Per concludere vi scrivo un'altra frase presa dalla quarta di copertina: "Queste visioni non incutono paura. Sono, piuttosto, degli eventi confortanti che aiutano chi li prova ad accettare la morte. É evidente che le visioni possono dare chiarezza in momenti di estrema confusione e risollevare lo spirito provato dallo strazio." "Trasformati dalla luce" è il secondo libro del Dr. Melvin Morse, scritto insieme a Paul Perry. Se in "Più vicini alla luce" l'autore metteva in evidenza il frutto della sua ricerca sull'esperienze di pre-morte, in questo libro si parla di come e se un'esperienza del genere possa avere un effetto sulla personalità di quelli che hanno avuto una simile esperienza; cercando di rispondere ad una domanda: "É possibile riuscire a documentare gli effetti trasformativi degli episodi di pre-morte?" Per rispondere a questa domanda, sono stati intervistati due gruppi di persone adulte: quelli che da piccoli hanno avuto una malattia grave o un evento che poteva portare alla morte che hanno avuto un'esperienza di pre-morte e un gruppo che, sempre da piccoli, hanno avuto incidenti o malattie gravi ma senza aver fatto un'esperienza di pre-morte. Tutto questo per vedere se c'erano delle differenze a livello della personalità. Sono stati presi anche in esame persone che hanno tentato il suicidio e che hanno avuto un'esperienza di pre-morte. Nelle 251 pagine abbiano l'ennesima conferma che queste esperienze accadono, che le persone coinvolte hanno una trasformazione nella personalità (in maniera positiva) e che sono riluttanti a parlarne per paura di essere considerati pazzi o bugiardi. Ovviamente ognuno di noi può crederci oppure no, però bisogna prendere atto della quantità enorme di documentazione di questi eventi. I bambini che hanno avuto esperienze di premorte (NDE), hanno poi accusato di problemi psicologici nell'arco della loro vita? Le NDE che hanno fatto i bambini sono le stesse che fanno gli adulti? Quest'esperienze sono frutto di un evento spirituale? oppure, sono frutto di farmaci e del cervello? Il Dr. Melvin Morse, insieme a Paul Perry (collaboratore di altri libri riguardanti sempre questo tema) cercheranno di rispondere a queste domande (e ad altre in questo libro). Prima però, come di consuetudine, una piccola introduzione sull'autore. Melvin L. Morse, classe 1953, è un medico americano con la specializzazione in pediatria. "Più vicini alla luce" tratta proprio dell'esperienze di premorte che sono state fatti dai bambini; ma non solo. In questa sua ricerca scientifica, oltre a presentare tanti casi, sia di infanti e sia di adulti (per confrontare i due tipi di esperienza), l'autore parlerà della ricerca che è stata fatta sul cervello per rispondere alla domanda: Ma quest'esperienze sono frutto del cervello? Inoltre esporrà la sua tesi sul perché nessuna sostanza stupefacente o farmaco possa provocare le NDE. Insomma, un altro libro che conferma tutto quello che han detto gli altri autori: quest'esperienze sono esperienze spirituali e chi le fa, poi ritorna cambiato positivamente e questo cambiamento dura per tutta la vita. Perché se è vero che è stato uno dei primi ad esporsi su tematiche molto delicate e a ricevere un'ottima accoglienza a livello internazionale, è anche vero che ha dovuto lottare, anche con persone molto care a lui, per via delle sue idee e del suo lavoro. Non voglio rivelarvi nient'altro, però lasciatemi esprimere un fatto: "Questi uomini/donne di scienza che si sono esposti su queste tematiche (NDE, ipnosi regressiva, reincarnazione, ecc ecc) non hanno avuto sempre la vita facile. Bisogna contestualizzare anche il periodo: siamo negli anni 70. E' un periodo dove la tutta la medicina è ancora con la mente chiusa. Non che adesso sia molto diverso, solo che essendoci molta più informazione, certe cose vengono accettate più facilmente; ma allora non era così. Ho iniziato a parlare dei libri di questi dottori proprio per farvi capire che non sono tematiche che vengono parlate da persone qualsiasi, ma da persone che hanno fatto studi accademici e poi per una serie di motivi si sono ritrovati a vivere certe esperienze che hanno fatto cambiare loro idea. La domanda che vi pongo è: Per quale motivo, persone con uno o più lauree, rischiano la loro carriera per parlare di cose che, per la società, sono ritenute strane (per non dire altro)? Questa è la domanda che tutti noi dobbiamo porci. Poi uno è comunque libero di non crederci. Ma, forse, per la prima volta scienza e spiritualità hanno un punto di incontro." BOOK REVIEW: The Garden by Paul Perry . "America's a myth. It's the Wild West, it's a car crash. It's a child with a gun in its hands." So speaks Swallow, narrator of this dark gleaming novel about obsession & desire, set in swampy Florida in the 1990s. Swallow is Irish originally, & has found himself - drifted into - the strange world of orchid farming, where rare blossoms like the ghost orchid are as highly-sought after as the finest of drugs. "Imagine it, a flower so elusive and mysterious that it contained all you ever yearned for, and all you couldn't have." The weird & intense world of orchid obsession has been explored by Susan Orlean in her non-fiction work The Orchid Thief (a book many will be familiar with from the movie Adaptation) & there are parallels with a real-life obsessive, John La Roche, in the character of Blanchard, who is willing to go to any length to obtain the ghost orchid. But this both takes its own slant on the subject & swerves dramatically from the real-life events; it's got the energy of a thriller (Perry has previously co-authored crime novels) with the feel of a fable, inviting us to reflect on human nature, nature-nature & the often-fractious relationship between the two. There's also a cold hard look at the myth of America, a place of alleged opportunity that so often turns into exploitation. "We were invisible to society," Swallow reflects, "but we were the ones who did the dirty work." (It feels, in many ways, like an American Novel, not just in its setting but in its themes.) A very pleasing read indeed.
Schegge di eternità è l'ottavo libro del Dr. Raymond Moody, Jr. Scritto insieme a Paul Perry (co-autore di altri libri del Dottore), in questo libro si affronta il tema di Esperienza di Morte Condivisa. Ma cos'è? L'esperienza di morte condivisa sono tutte quelle esperienze che vivono quelli che hanno esperienze di pre morte, però capitano a persone che stanno bene. Ma come è possibile? L'esperienze di premorte le vivono tutte quelle persone che sono vicine alla morte, come possono viverle anche le persone che stanno bene e che neanche lontanamente sono vicine alla morte? L'esperienze di morte condivisa le vivono (non sempre) tutte quelle persone che hanno una persona a loro cara. Anche gli/le infermieri/e che lavorano che lavorano a stretto contatto con persone con malattie terminali possono viverle. Le cose che hanno in comune l'esperienza di morte condivisa e l'esperienza di pre morte è il risultato che danno alle persone che vivono queste esperienze, ovvero: una rinascita spirituale. L'autore fa una disamina storica, raccoglie le testimonianze e si pone delle domande sulla veridicità di questo fenomeno (infatti si chiede se siano allucinazioni o malattie mentali). Insomma, una ricerca nel stile "Moody". Naturalmente non è una ricerca scientifica, seppur fatta da un uomo di scienza, in quanto una ricerca scientifica su questi temi è molto difficile da fare. E come dice lo stesso Moody: "l'esperienza di morte condivisa è una verità potente che può insegnare molto a chi resta e confortarlo nel momento del dolore." Ed eccoci al quinto libro del Dr. Raymond A. Moody, jr. Anche questo libro è scritto insieme a Paul Perry Il libro si incentra sulla catottromanzia. Cos'è la catottromanzia? E' l'arte secondo la quale, usando una superficie riflettente (principalmente uno specchio, ma si possono usare anche altri oggetti) e in particolari situazioni (combinato ad uno stato alterato di coscienza) si possono evocare defunti e scrutare il proprio inconscio. Detto questo, il libro è strutturato principalmente in tre parti: La prima parte è quella storica. Qui vediamo la ricerca che l'autore fa per farci capire che questo sistema è stato adottato fin dall'antichità (dall'antica Grecia fino all'esperienza che ebbe Abramo Lincoln). Molto interessante perché ci fa capire che non è una cosa, come molti la chiamano, New Age. La seconda parte è incentrata sull'uso che ne fa l'autore e i relativi casi dei suoi pazienti. Nella terza parte si parla degli usi terapeutici che si possono ottenere facendo la catottromanzia. Devo essere sincero; è la prima volta che leggo un'opera sulla catottromanzia. Avevo sentito parlare, in passato, che lo specchio (o comunque qualsiasi altra cosa riflettente) era una sorta di ponte tra il mondo dei vivi e il mondo dei morti, ma non avevo mai approfondito così tanto. E' stato un piacere leggere questo libro. In special modo per i riferimenti storici, che sono stati molto interessanti; che possono invogliare il lettore ad approfondire l'argomento. La lunghezza di 176 pagine unito alla scrittura comprensibile hanno fatto si che in due giorni l'ho letto tutto. Vi consiglio la lettura però purtroppo non è più in commercio. Questa volta però è affiancato, nella scrittura, a Paul Perry (co-autore che vedremo anche in altre opere) Paul Perry è un documentarista, ha studiato in particolare i bambini reduci da esperienze di pre-morte e insegna scrittura creativa alla Kingston University di Londra e a Dublino. Questo libro parla della ricerca che, il Dr. Raymond Moody, ha condotto nel campo dell'ipnosi regressiva. Le domande che si pone l'autore sono: i ricordi che riaffiorano mentre si fa un'ipnosi regressiva sono ricordi di altre vite? Oppure è altro? tramite l'ipnosi regressiva riusciamo a far provare che esiste la reincarnazione? In quest'opera vediamo che l'autore, usando anche la parte logica (scientifica) della sua mente cerca di capire se dietro a questi ricordi, non ci siano altre spiegazioni, più logiche e razionali. Il bello di questo libro è proprio questo; non assistiamo ad un fanatismo ideologico basato sulla reincarnazione bensì l'autore cerca di spiegare il perché lui stesso non possa dire che si tratti o meno di reincarnazione. L'unica certezza che ha, che sia che si tratti di ricordi di vite passate oppure che ci sia altro, è l'efficacia che si ha usando l'ipnosi regressiva in una psicoterapia. Portare a galla dei ricordi (specialmente quelli più brutti/intesi) sotto ipnosi regressiva significa liberarsi da quell'emozioni represse e poter vivere meglio. Il libro contiene anche dei casi di ipnosi regressiva, che è molto interessante. "Ricordi di altre vite" lo troverete sull'usato (eBay) ad un prezzo veramente ridicolo (attualmente mentre sto scrivendo questa recensione). I'm thrilled to have received this giveaway from @newislandbooks. It's an intriguing novel set on an orchid farm in #Florida, which has been devastated by a hurricane. The biggest loss is the rare ghost #orchid. What ensues is the story of how the owner, Blanchard, with the help of an Irish assistant, Swallow - the narrator - sets about getting a #ghostorchid from the native American Indian #reservation. The garden is initially compared to #Eden but slowly things begin to unravel because of obsession, greed, disfunctional relationships. The biblical reference is apt as the garden becomes hellish as a result of the elusive orchid, which can be seen as a metaphor for the forbidden fruit and the chaos it caused in Eden. Paul Perry said in an interview recently that he had worked on a similar reservation in his youth, and his knowledge shines through in the details he gives of places (even if they are fictitious). The many characters are compelling too, revealing quirky complexities as well as the tensions between business interests and exploitation of the native #American Indians and their land. Part of the intrigue of the novel is that a few key things remain unexplained, including a murder (though suspicions are strong). Curiously, this doesn't end up feeling unsatisfactory or particularly inconclusive. There is an element of inevitability to it - the same could be said for the love triangles. People's behaviour is dictated by circumstance. We often end up doing things or treating others in ways that surprise even us. And in the blink of an eye something causes everything to change and we're off on a different tack. Steeped in the sticky heat of the Florida swamps, this is a claustrophobic slow burner pervaded from the start by an ominous atmosphere, by the feeling of potential danger. Even if little seems to happen, tension builds up slowly and is always palpable as we proceed inexorably toward the final redde rationem. It reads like a story of temptation, fall, revenge and greed updated for Anthropocene, and a great commentary on what hides under the rough skin of masculinity. Wonderful way of rendering the characters' psychology as well as the settings, the devastated nurseries, the swamps. ITA: "Revolution" (Rivoluzione) è il primo album in studio della band Nu Metal americana "Insolence". Questo è l'album più famoso della band e anche il mio preferito. Le canzoni più famose sono "Death Threat" e "Poison Well". Le mie canzonj preferite sono "Poison Well", "1-2, 1-2", "Detox" e "Breakdown". Di sicuro, questi disco fa più parte della corrente Rap Metal del genere, unito a un pizzico di Hardcore. Anche se quest'album è uscito nel 2001, dà veramente i feels che si provano ascoltando i primi Limp Bizkit. Secondo me questo è un altro capolavoro dell'Underground, non so se rientra tra i miei preferiti in assoluto, ma è sicuramente una vera e propria perla. Consiglio a tutti di ascoltare quest'album! For sure, this record is more part of the current Rap Metal genre, combined with a hint of Hardcore.
