Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez K&A's Rating: 5/5 Tropes: Found Family, Summer Romance Our Thoughts: Part Of Your World series hit a new high for me. Just when I thought it couldn't get better after yours truly, Abby Jiminez gave us Just for The Summer. And man! What a ride. It's truly a gift to write the way Abby Jiminez does. Her characters are as real and layered as they can get. Yet they have this innate goodness and depth that is so surreal. Emma and Justin both have their baggages and you won't realize the intensity of it more than halfway into the book. As everything unravels, you'd find yourself weeping and pining for them to get together. I wouldn't want to change a single thing about this book. Banters, Justin (how Jiminez writes just the perfect fictional men is beyond me), Maddy, the kids, and even the beautifully flawed Emma. Nothing. All I want to say is, if I could give this book a six out of five, I would. - K Just For the Summer may be my favorite book of the year so far and just - WHAT A BOOK. This third instalment of the Part Of Your World series by Abby Jimenez just proves how good she is at fleshing out vulnerable characters and making you love them. While this book in itself is perfect in every imaginable way, the cameos of characters from the other books and the roles some of them play in the story had me leaping in joy. I have never come across a third act breakup so right and heartbreaking at the same time. Justin and Emma may not be my favorite fictional couple, but they are so made for each other, that you want to believe that love is truly all magic. By the last chapter, I was absolutely weeping. What I Thought ✨ I loved this book! 🩷 It was funny. And heartwarming. And it made me cry. And it’s going to stick with me. I LOVED it and it’s my new favorite from Abby Jimenez. 🫶🏻 • From the beginning, I loved the ease that Justin and Emma had with each other. They both had so much that they were dealing with and trying to work through, and yet they found a safe place in each other. I loved how their relationship unfolded. 💕 • The Minnesota setting! 😍 I mean, what a treat! Lake life in the summer is the best of times here and it was so fun to read about the adventures that Justin and Emma took right here in my hometown. • The most impactful part of the book for me was definitely seeing how Emma navigated the childhood trauma that she experienced. It wasn’t easy. The impact was real and long lasting. And it wasn’t an easy fix. Gosh, was this depicted so very well. If you’ve experienced trauma or hard things in your past (or current present) - this book gives a voice to the struggle, the pain and also the hope of healing. This is what will stick with me most. 🤍 • As you can see, I’m such a fan of this book! I am so picky about giving out 5 stars but Just for the Summer deserves all of them. 4/5 ⭐️ Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez Emma and Justin both believe they are cursed. After every break up, their ex goes on to get married. After meeting through a Reddit thread, they decide to date each other and hope it breaks the curse. Since Emma is a traveling nurse, she changes her contract and moves to Minnesota to fake date Justin and break the curse. Except it doesn’t really feel like fake dating. Thoughts 💭: I loved Justin. He was a walking green flag. He made everything tolerable. But I also feel this was with a lot of Abby Jimenez books. I end up liking the male love interest so much more. She does an amazing job at making these guys so lovable. I liked him a lot more than Emma. Sister needed to sort out her mommy issues (tbh they both did). Some favorite scenes were the raccoons in the bra, the dating surveys, daddy Justin, when she is sick, and the way the story ended. I read it in like 3 days and couldn’t really put it down so that has to count for something. But on a technical standpoint, who let this image be the cover??? Like this is deceiving. This is a heavier book with a lot of trauma yet the cover makes it look like a light and fluffy read. I think once you realize that you are not getting that kind of book, you will enjoy it more. Favorite quote: “I do love Trader Joe’s,” I said, smiling at the bag. “Nothing like a grocery store that makes you have to visit another grocery store right after.” (Literally lol’ed at this line) 🚽 have you read this book? WHAT A CUTE BOOK! Lucy Loves Him Not is an adorable little contemporary. It’s a fun, light, and refreshing read. And oh, the swoon! 🙉 There were so many swoony moments, and Adam - oh Adam - had the swooniest lines. It gave me all the Hallmark feels. 😊 I liked Adam, the perfect man. He reads, 🫠 and he has glasses 🔥🥵. He’s definitely my type 🤭. The tension between him and Lucy was sizzling 🥓🍳. And even though it's probably not a true slow burn, Rebecca Jo really kept me on the edge of my seat. I just wanted them to kiss already!! 💋😘 I thought the little subplot about Lucy's art 🎨 was really sweet, and there are some fun side characters that keep things lively. Also, Lucy and Adam’s ‘research’ trips were a delight. I wasn't a big fan of the climax since it felt a little dramatic compared to the rest of the book, but I really liked the ending. The last chapter! 😘👏🙌🥲 Overall, this is a really cute story. If you're looking for a light read to get you in the summer mood, ☀️🌄🍦 this is definitely it. Have you ever had a summer romance? {Thank you @prhaudio and @putnambooks for the ALC and ARC} I haven’t (unless you count sharing a kiss or two). I would 💯 catch feelings and it would be awkward 😅🫣 I recently read Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan and loved it! It was funny, heartwarming, and such a feel good read. This is the third book I’ve read by the author and it’s definitely my favorite! Things to expect: - An incredibly funny and relatable heroine. Ali’s character arc was so satisfying and I loved seeing her blossom and come back to herself. She doesn’t have all the answers and sometimes makes mistakes, but her character felt so real. The book does fall more into women’s fiction for me because of this. - I loved the message that it’s never too late to begin again. That we have as many acts as we wish, if we’re brave enough to reach for them. - A sweetheart golden retriever hero. Ethan had the biggest heart and I loved how thoughtful, caring, and supportive he was. I’m always a sucker for the pining hero and his teenage crush turned reality was so cute. I mainly listened to the audio of Summer Romance and the narration by Kristen DiMercurio was outstanding! She captured all the emotion and heart of these characters and I found myself saying one more chapter over and over again. 🛥️ Title and Author: Just For The Summer by Abby Jimenez Published: April 2, 2024 How I Read It: Hard copy Quick Synopsis: Justin and Emma have the same problem - they are always the last person someone dates before they meet The One. What will happen when they date each other? My Favorite Character: Justin. So much happened to him and he just kept moving forward toward his happiness. Other Thoughts: I loved this book. The characters are great, the story is great, the slow burn is so satisfying. There are a lot of creative elements. I withheld one star for two reasons. One - I don’t think the “curse” that was so often discussed in the first part of the book was really completed followed through. It just kind of…went away? I also felt like the ending of the book was rushed. There was a LOT happening and it went VERY quickly - I would have appreciated a slower pace here and more detail. I also broke a personal rule on this one and read a series out of order but fear not - I have Yours Truly on hold to remedy this situation! ✿ book review ✿ | summer romance by annabel monaghan | rating: ☆☆☆☆ read if you like: + meet cute + best friend’s brother + divorced, single mom + skateboarding + dogs Like all of Annabel Monaghan’s books, this one is a MUST READ! Such a cute story of an even cuter meet-cute! 💕 There’s a lot about divorce in this book so if that’s a touchy subject for you, I’d steer clear of this one but in my opinion the author executed the plot fabulously! I loved how Ethan went to Ali’s meetings and stood in as her “lawyer” to get her and her children the best possible outcome from the divorce. He was truly a class act. My only gripe was that I wish we saw more about how the kids felt about all these big changes. I’m assuming, with 3 kids, that divorce and getting into a new, serious relationship all over the course of one summer can be a tricky situation. Wildfire by Hannah Grace Maple Hills Book 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️ I loved this book. It was such a fun summer romance. I wasn’t expecting there to be so much emotion depth but Russ and Aurora were both on a journey to find themselves and to learn to cope with their pasts. The host of secondary characters added some found family vibes, with both Russ’ hockey team and Aurora’s best friend Emilia. Despite their financial differences, Russ and Aurora had a lot in common. They both had family drama, specifically with their dads, and although they handled it differently, I think it gave them something deeper to connect about. Russ was such a surprise for me. He was so reserved and socially awkward and everything that a stereotypical hockey player is not. He was so private and found it hard to let people in, but meeting Aurora changed that for him. He had a lot of baggage to get over, but Aurora showed him how to live again. Aurora had no less baggage than Russ, but while he tried to be perfect, Aurora was loud and exuberant. She had no trouble breaking the rules. But she also had some major insecurities. It took her some time to trust Russ, but he made it impossible for her to resist. I loved the way Russ and Aurora supported each other. I loved the way they shared their secrets and bared their souls to each other. I really appreciated that the third act conflict wasn’t really a conflict, more right person wrong time. No miscommunication (we love that)! The writing style is casual, easy to read. Almost like you’re one of the Murphy’s round the camp fire. There is open door romance/ spice scenes in this book, but they don’t take away from the plot! I also really liked all the characters (not you Luke 😂). You really get a feel for how close the Murphy’s are & even some of the late arrival side characters are so charming too (Marcy, My Ladybug 🥹🐞so cute). I really can’t pick a highlight character because there’s so many good ones. My top two would have to be Gracie & Abby, in fact I’m hoping book 2 is Abby’s story! 👀 PS.
