Had this beautiful Premier Grand Cru at Les Belles Perdrix de Troplong Mondot. This paired wonderfully with the courses consisting of array of finely crafted appetizers, white asparagus and pasta filled with puréed green asparagus, an amazing duck tart and delicious hen. We wrapped up the evening with a lovely strawberry tart. Highly recommend this gem on your next visit to St Emilion!

Su crianza de la D.O. Ribera del Duero se elabora con las uvas provenientes de 34 pequeñas parcelas de viñedos antiguos distribuidos en cinco pueblos de las zonas más elevadas de la región. La fermentación alcohólica se lleva a cabo en depósitos de acero inoxidable, manteniendo una estricta temperatura controlada. Una vez completada la fermentación maloláctica, se inicia el periodo de crianza, el cual tiene lugar en barricas de roble americano y francés, extendiéndose por un mínimo de 12 meses, permitiendo que el vino desarrolle gradualmente su complejidad aromática y estructura en boca. Posteriormente inicia una etapa adicional de crianza en botella. Exhibe una nariz compleja, caracterizada por notas de bayas rojas y negras, acompañadas de sutiles matices florales y balsámicos. La D.O. Jumilla es una región vinícola ubicada en la provincia de Murcia. Had my first taste of the Ciliegiolo grape at @brezzalv in Las Vegas. An uncommon grape and mostly used in blends to tame the tannins and structure of Sangiovese, this wine from @cantinelunae_official is actually 100% Ciliegiolo. The grape’s name comes from the Italian word for cherry and that is definitely what you get here. This wine is light body with a formal nose and red fruits, particularly cherry, on the palate. It’s an easy drinking wine but ultimately left me wanting something more. Mencía has a short history in Australia.It was first planted just thirteen years ago in 2011. Mostly grown in the north-western Spanish regions of Bierzo, Riberia Sacra, and Valdeorras, with smaller amounts in Portugal's Dão region. It was once believed to have been related to Cabernet Franc, but it has since been discovered that it is genetically identical to the Portuguese variety Jaen. So, although there are almost four times as many plantings of Mencía in Spain, it is likely that its origins are actually from Portugal. Wines made from Mencía are generally known to be medium bodied, aromatic, and fruity. La Linea was the first to plant Mencía in the Adelaide Hills region. The block is over 450 metres above sea level, in the Lenswood sub-region. The vines must love the views because they have produced grapes that make this wine delicious! Plenty of body, soft tannins, juicy, cherry, and darker berry flavours. Although it's very fruity, I found it a bit earthy with a hint of spice. I've heard it called Spain's Pinot Noir, but this one for me would be a great alternative to a cool climate Shiraz. @lalineawine #alternativeapril

🇪🇸 A few shots of some of the old Monastrell vines in Jumilla in southeastern Spain. ☀️ Many old vineyards have been lost in this region, for reasons including lack of available labour, growers being paid to pull up vines, or switching to more lucrative crops like almonds. The remaining old vineyards are some of the most surprising landscapes I’ve seen, often remote, windswept flat sites battered by very cold winds in winter and unforgiving heat in summer. 🍇 These old vines are ungrafted, as phylloxera is not a problem here - likely due to the combination of partly sandy soils high in calcium carbonate, and the harsh, very dry climate. Yields tend to decrease as vines age, but these vines are still productive and the grape quality is high, with small berries and concentrated flavours. ❓ I have much more to share from my fascinating trip with @ouroldvines and @vinosjumilla - do you have any questions about old vines or this region?

It’s probably a little too early for red wine posts but I did have a glass of wine last night after an eventful day yesterday. My little boy had broken his arm! (very small break and he is fine!) but a glass of wine and a bit of painting were much needed - on my part! You can never predict what’s going to happen with the kids and being able to work flexibly and around them has always been a big reason for me doing this, it means it often takes me a little longer to get things done but it keeps me focussed too. We are back to hospital this morning and I’ll probably treat us to a coffee and cake at the cafe there once we are done!
