Another “Summer Sisters” video! We took this video at the first of July, before Gwen‘s three hospital stays and month of sickness. I’m happy to report that she has now been hospital-free for the past week and using oxygen only at night. So far she is doing great! I’m really hopeful that she’ll have some healthy days ahead of her and for now, we’ll look back on some of our happy moments from the summer. Currently Gwen is in the hospital yet AGAIN (don’t worry, she is now doing well and should discharge soon) but memories of last weekend and easy summer days with our girls makes this current hospital stay more bearable. Especially due to the fact that this hospital stay landed squarely on my birthday! Although, I’ll give up any special day if it keeps Gwen safe and healthy. ❤️ Last summer I made a video of the girls that was set to this same song, and captured the feeling of mid-summer joy. I’ve decided to continue the tradition and create a new summer video every year to this same song, and enjoy the memories of summer with our “Summer Sisters”! As for why Gwen is hospitalized, I’ll do a more in-depth post about that and also update my stories this weekend, but it’s a combination of pneumonia and her heart stuff. Rating - 5/5 I remember reading this book the summer after my freshman year of college on a plane ride to Hawaii, but had no recall of what the book was about. I remember enjoying the book, but didn’t recall that it holds a place in my top five. 📚This is the story of Vix and Caitlin, best friends from childhood. We meet the girls at 12 years old when Caitlin invites Vix to spend the summer in Martha’s Vineyard with her family. We then take a journey following the girls up to the age of 30 where they spend countless summers in Martha’s Vineyard. We follow along with their friendships, familial relationships, romantic partners, and career paths. The book had some…. err exploration at a young age that I could have done without, but otherwise this was a beautifully written coming of age novel. The book was originally published in 1998 and had a re-release in 2023, yet while it referenced many specific events in the 70s and 80s, it didn’t feel like I was reading a 25 year old book. 🎬 I would love to see this as a movie, or even a Netflix series like Firefly Lane. Summer Sisters 🌊 | Judy Blume • • • • • • When I first started this book I was a bit put off by the Caitlin character but as the last few chapters unfolded I was shocked by how everything ended up. I loved how complex the characters were and that Victoria was able to have a good ending. I found the Caitlin character so complex and frustrating and I didn't realize until the end that we never get her point of view and never know what she is thinking like we do with the others. It is clear to me now knowing everything that happens why she ends up the way she does. I wish we knew more details and more of her story. Loving Summer Sisters by @judyblume4real in oh so many ways! It holds the same magic that @elinhilderbrand novels hold for me, not just because a lot of the story takes place on Martha’s Vineyard, but also because of the dynamics between characters, the keen social observations, the well-crafted multiple points of view, the action spanning several decades, and the general tone of the book. Of course, Miss Vulpe loves a book about a long-term friendship rife with drama and rivalry. Especially due to the fact that this hospital stay landed squarely on my birthday! Although, I’ll give up any special day if it keeps Gwen safe and healthy. ❤️ Last summer I made a video of the girls that was set to this same song, and captured the feeling of mid-summer joy. I’ve decided to continue the tradition and create a new summer video every year to this same song, and enjoy the memories of summer with our “Summer Sisters”! As for why Gwen is hospitalized, I’ll do a more in-depth post about that and also update my stories this weekend, but it’s a combination of pneumonia and her heart stuff. Summer Sisters - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 3.25/5 This book felt nostalgic. It’s a coming-of-age story of two friends who grow up together and realize, as they age, that their lives will take them in different paths. That felt really relatable. If I read this in high school or straight out of college, I probably would have enjoyed it more. As an adult, I couldn’t connect as strongly with the two young girls and wanted to hear more about their lives as adults. That being said, I really did like the main character Vicks and was happy with how her journey ended up. There are definitely coming-of-age stories I’ve enjoyed more than this, but I’d still probably recommend it to a younger audience. #bookstagram #booklover #bookreview #summersisters #judyblume

Another “Summer Sisters” video! We took this video at the first of July, before Gwen‘s three hospital stays and month of sickness. I’m happy to report that she has now been hospital-free for the past week and using oxygen only at night. So far she is doing great! I’m really hopeful that she’ll have some healthy days ahead of her and for now, we’ll look back on some of our happy moments from the summer.
