Leadership is an incredible skill, but have you ever wondered why there is so much corruption in leadership roles across the board? Government, religious circles, institutions, you name it. The draw for power is often not a pure desire. Leadership can be a survival identity for some. Their world felt chaotic as a child and they learned to control by being the one that is heard, listened to, obeyed, and followed. Maybe you were a victim in some ways as a child. Maybe a child did not receive enough love and acceptance. This could have been overt, but sometimes it’s not so easy to pinpoint. Children can feel like victims when they have no control over anything in their environments. Because of the need for love and recognition, a leader survival identity could have been formed, leaving you in a place of always subconsciously looking for the praise and affirmation of others. Leadership is not inherently bad- we need leaders in this world! However when people aren’t leading from a place of peace, authenticity, and humility, strange things often start happening. You don’t have to look to hard to find a myriad of examples. As with all of these survival identities, the goal is awareness, not shame. If you never led another day in your life, what would that be like for you? Stay curious, and be gentle with yourselves. After reading the Dark Side of the Light Chasers by Debbie Ford around 2017 I was introduced to the concept of Shadow Work. The general ideas that stuck with me over the years since is that for every quality of your personality or behavior that you judge in yourself and others is also a strength. Our shadows serve as mechanisms we develop throughout our lives to keep us safe. When those behaviors or traits no longer serve us but begin to hinder our growth and our enjoyment of our lives and experiences we start to ask, what is this? What do I do with this, about this? At that moment, we pick up the thread and start pulling. Some come loose easy. Perhaps we remember the core memory of where this behavior or trait was born, and we can observe it, forgive it, thank it, rewrite it, and heal from the wound that cast this shadow to let in the light. Integrate that aspect of you, your shadow, that emotional, spiritual and physical survivalist aspect and love it for protecting you. You can relieve that shadow of it's duty, and allow your healing version to say "Hey, it's ok, relax, I got this." The healing and empowered version of you is beautiful, magnificent, wonderous. But guess what? Those shadow aspects of you are just as sacred. Just as beautiful. Just as wonderous. I read somewhere that when trying to make a change, the nervous system responds better to love and kindness. Instead of shaming and abusing yourself for your failures, your shortcomings, your shadows, your habits, and your behaviors, love yourself into change. Envision the you that you want to be. Spend time with that version of you. How does it feel? Ask them what you need to do and how to get to that point, and they will guide you. You will guide you, always, through your inspirations and ideas and intuition toward the most self actualized, happy, and flowing version of yourself. You are worthy of healing. You are worthy of being self actualized. You are worthy of embodying the most exalted expression of your self. You are worthy of your gifts. You are worthy of your wildest dreams come true.

Following up on a post I made last week and emotional suppression...if you push down your emotions, they are eventually going to manifest as physical symptoms. When I was stuck in bed with chronic symptoms, I would dream about everything I was going to do when I got better. I made a pretty long bucket list in my Notes app. 📝 I loved doing this @medicalmedium “activate your body’s healing potential” exercise. Now that I have a second chance at life with health, I am doing everything I dreamed of doing 💭 - In January, I picked 6 activities off my list to start working on. - I made an edit with inspiration pictures to help me visualize the specifics about what I wanted for each. - I set a date to help me stay on top of it. I gave myself 4 months which ended up working great. This exercise has brought a lot of excitement into my life, before & after healing. I had something really beautiful happen last night. Eye 👁️ awakening in fact! I went to an event that a girlfriend had and after returning home I began thinking about my dad who passed away on May 7th 1985. He was 36 years young. He passed in an auto accident in his favorite style car, a brand new 85 Corvette. He also had a 68 Corvette. In fact, he collected cars, boats, three wheelers, etc. I decided to look up the last home he lived in and wasn’t surprised to see it looked almost exactly like the home I live in now, three car garage and all. I began thinking about all the burdens he carried at such a young age. The heavy load of bills, running a big company, having four kids, wanting to heal the relationship with his own mother, and all that he must’ve been going through in silence. Many of the burdens he carried. I carry myself today and I too don’t speak of them. Prior to relocating here, I found a tattered baseball in my yard, a gentle sign that he was guiding me on my souls mission. Many of you may feel called to improve upon aspects of yourselves that your ancestors didn’t heal within themselves prior to departing. I began thinking about ancestral Karma. How a select chosen few of us are called to clear out the Karmic line of our ancestors. We are being called to improve what they could not improve while they were here on earth. I know that many of you have experienced this as well which is why it’s so widely important that we pay attention to the foods we eat and the company we keep along our journey. Throughout getting my past life regression certification, I kept questioning why I was taking the course. It had been incredibly painful whenever it became my turn to be hypnotized to go through regression therapy myself. I’m here to serve and support you upon your journey as well. To see things objectively is to stop adding stories to our current situation. Seeing objectively means we are free from labeling this moment as it is, which allows us to create harmony within and with the present moment. . If we meet the emotions and thoughts arising with a story that rejects them, that labels them as good or bad, or that reinforce the idea that this moment shouldn’t be the way it is, we are instantly creating imbalance within by rejecting our current experience. . Rejecting our experience in the present moment means we are running away from the only place where true and lasting changes can happen. In the midst of internal resistance, we can pause and become aware of how would we experience this moment if we weren’t adding any thoughts or stories to it. This pause helps us regain the clarity to objectively see and release the barriers that were keeping us stuck in a cycle of internal resistance, so we can properly move forward. . We can still know how we prefer our external reality to be and the people around us to behave, but to seek to control/shape others or the world around us to bring us peace is an impossible task. Instead, recognizing the role our thoughts/judgments/stories have on our internal state, allows us to draw our attention inward and release the resistance that is not serving us in moving forward smoothly nor aligned with our preferred reality. . The more present we become, and stop blindly engaging with the judgments that arise in the mind or to being in conflict with them, the easier it becomes to let go of old stories and patterns and to bring about a change in our reality from the inside out.

Survival identities are beautiful protective mechanisms that shielded us as children from an unstable environment. Instability can take many forms even if your childhood wasn’t overtly abusive. Behavioral expectations of children can mold and shape their little minds to do whatever they can to maintain connection with a caregiver (connection = survival to children) If that thing is being selfless then a neural pathway will form that reinforces that they are accepted and connected when they are selfless. This can happen outside of early development as well. When teenagers and young adults are forming their identities they can grab a hold of certain things that help them stay accepted and a connected. A young person might learn that in a friend group if they are the ones taking care of others needs then they are praised and valued. And that feels good. Until it doesn’t. Survival identities often don’t serve us well into adulthood. Your body and nervous system are not meant to be neglected by you. They are a part of you that needs your unconditional love. Sometimes people become so attached to their survival identities they do not know who they are outside of it. I became bedbound at the age of 23. I thought my life was over. I had gone to every doctor and specialist, had every lab test and diagnostic done, and everything came back normal. It was devastating. To be totally honest, I can’t tease apart the impact of becoming a mother with aftermath of witnessing my father being taken away by motor neurone disease. The wounds from that collision of life events run deep and I am still reckoning with them 14 years later. While the traumatic circumstances and arrival of my first have left an indelible mark on my nervous system, the gift of motherhood, the embraces, the unconditional love, the acceptance (sometimes in short supply with teens!) have put me back together in a new incarnation. There are many survival identities we cling to that we learned as children to help us cope in an ever changing and sometimes chaotic world. I hear this one all of the time and I myself have said it over and over again! I identified as an Empath because I was constantly bombarded by the feelings of others. These “feelings” I would sense would cause me to dive deeper into fawning- a nervous system state that causes you to forsake your authenticity for the sake of connection. As a child, my environment was chaotic and I learned to “sense” others emotions in order to stay safe. If I could predict what would happen, then I could protect myself, right? The problem happens when as an adult this is no longer serving you. You burn through your energy reserves “feeling” others’ emotions to control your own internal state and sense of safety and connection. Another thing is that your sensing of others feelings is often wrong. You find identity in feeling what others feel and wear it as a badge of honor but in fact this is not true empathy. True empathy is a skill that anyone can learn and it involves being present with another’s emotions but staying safe and calm yourself. You cannot have empathy for others if you do not have it for yourself. Some food for thought if you have ever identified as an empath. A few years back, my husband and I spent the winter in Rockport, Texas. While we were there, we had the pleasure of finding a tasty black bean burger at the local H-E-B. We’ve tried making them a few times over the years, but they never really added up. I decided to give them another try and think I’ve come pretty close. Ingredients: - 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed - 1/2 cup finely chopped onions - 1/2 cup finely chopped bell peppers - 2 cloves garlic, minced - 1 teaspoon ground cumin - 1 teaspoon smoked paprika - 1/2 teaspoon chili powder - 1/2 cup brown rice flour - 1 tsp guajillo pepper powder (optional) - Salt and pepper to taste (optional) - Lettuce leaves for serving (optional) Instructions: Preheat your oven to 375°F. In a large mixing bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still with some texture. Add the chopped onions, bell peppers, minced garlic, ground cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, brown rice flour, guajillo pepper powder, salt, and pepper to the mashed black beans. Mix until well combined. Form the mixture into patties, about 1/2 inch thick, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake the patties in the preheated oven for 20-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are firm and lightly browned. I get it. Pain is scary. And it can be incredibly intense. I had one client say her TMS/ Neuroplastic pain was worse than the pain of the 3 children she had birthed. I can't speak to that, lol, (because I don't have kids) but I do know my pain was incredibly difficult. Life shattering. I see you. I hear you. It's hard. I validate what you are going through. But the only way out is to practice not fearing the symptoms. I say practice because it's not a one and done quick fix. It's a way of learning to live with a little bit more fearlessness. I have an unpopular opinion that is backed up by a lot of brilliant minds out there. Your personality is not your identity. Your personality is a bunch of adaptation traits you developed to help you survive and connect in this world. The problem often comes when people start identifying with their “personality.” Ex. “I’m a people pleaser.” “I go with the flow/don’t rock the boat.” “I don’t have a strong personality” (I have heard some of the strongest personalities say this to my face!!) “I’m nice to everyone.” Etc. Your brilliant system created these traits to help you adapt and survive in an often chaotic world and maintain connection socially. And that is a beautiful thing. Until it isn’t. Clinging to these survival identities at the expense of your own authenticity can leave you feeling disconnected from your truest self. Disconnection causes dysregulation. What if you were so much more than your personality? Isn’t that wild to think about?
