Generally speaking, fresh, 'young' foods tend to have less histamine, while aged and fermented foods have more. Some nutrients act as antihistamines, inhibiting the build-up of histamine in the body. Eating foods that are rich in vitamins C, & D, quercetin and curcumin may be helpful! #guthealing #familynutrition #mindfuleating #guthealth #histamine

Sauna Struggles🫠 As always, I want to keep it real and also show some of the struggles I have when it comes to my histamine intolerance! 🌿 🤍My Personal Experience! Saunas? I absolutely love them, they feel incredible when I am in one and I love the vibe, but I also hate the reaction. As someone with histamine intolerance my skin reacts badly and I get as red as if I had an extremely bad sunburn. I also loose all of my energy for the ENTIRE DAY and feel very light headed straight after. 😩 I do wonder if there is some research or if there will be in the future that will tell us if it is a positive or a negative reaction on our bodies? I wonder if it’s the heat stress triggering histamine release, causing my skin to react this way. But until we have answers, it’s all about trial and error I guess! #histamine #histamineintolerance #saunas #london #viral #healthyfood #healthylifestyle #healinghistamine

#allergie #printemps #pollen #saison #intestin #foie #hydrolat #bleuet #alimentation #magnesium #vitamined #omega3 #histamine #hygienedevie #naturopathie #soindesoi #naturopathe #bienetre

L’HIST-AMIE ! Food is Medicine Friday: Paprika, aka Capsicum annuum Why am I in my 40s and just realizing that Paprika is dehydrated bell or sweet peppers?!!!🌶🫑 Bell peppers are a controversial vegetable in the wellness world. 🫠It is annoying how you can get conflicting information to common sense- when there are folks out there demonizing foods that come from the earth... Yet when presented without emotion, there can be educational value for the individual to assess. 🧐 Bell peppers are in the nightshade Solanaceae family. Nightshades can be known for having increased levels of alkaloids which can be inflammatory at higher doses. 🍑💨Most common physical symptoms to bell peppers- flatulence and joint pain. That said, bell peppers are considered an anti-inflammatory food thanks to flavonoids like quercetin and luteolin. They specifically inhibit LOX (lipoxygenase), an enzyme that triggers inflammation. 🌶🫑Bell peppers are said to be a naturally high histamine food, to be avoided by some folks with histamine issues. Well, it is also rich in quercetin, a natural mast cell inhibitor and antihistamine. 🤗Argue all you want about shoulds, shouldn'ts, bad, good, etc. Ultimately, its about paying attention to how your body responds. I responded joyously to the incredible sweet, fresh flavor of our homemade paprika!! Better than store-bought x1000000%. #foodismedicine #foodismedicinefriday #paprika #bellpepper #sweetpepper #capsicum #antiinflammatory #nightshade #inflammation #histamine #antihistamine #quercetin #luteolin

✨ Dive into the fascinating world of rosacea and histamine – a connection worth knowing about! ⁣ ⁣ Ever wondered why your rosacea seems to flare up at the most inconvenient times? Enter histamine, the not-so-friendly culprit behind those pesky red patches and flare-ups. ⁣ 🤔 Here’s the lowdown:⁣ ⁣ 🌼 Histamine Havoc: Histamine is a natural compound produced by our bodies in response to allergens and irritants. For those with rosacea, an overreaction to histamine can trigger inflammation, redness, and other symptoms, making flare-ups a common occurrence.⁣ ⁣ 🥵 Heat and Histamine: Ever notice how heat can exacerbate your rosacea?

MUCHO RUIDO... MUCHAS "NUECES" 🚨 . Deslizá imágenes ➡️➡️➡️ . . .

On today's #FactsFriday we give you 3 tips that can support you with a lactose intolerance - just swipe to the left 👈🏻. What happens when you are lactose intolerant? 👉🏻 Due to the missing or limited functioning enzyme lactase, which is normally responsible for breaking down lactose, the undigested lactose reaches the large intestine, where it is fermented by the intestinal bacteria. 👉🏻 Thus, bloating, flatulence, bloating sensation, nausea, diarrhea or constipation may occur after eating foods containing lactose. ❗️The cause of acquired lactose intolerance often lies in the intestine. Frequently, both intolerances also occur together❗️ Therefore, it makes sense to carry out an intestinal regeneration with subsequent intestinal reconstruction in order to bring your intestine back into its natural balance. Note ❌: If you can't tolerate dairy products, you may also have a milk protein allergy. In this case, the immune system in the body reacts allergically to certain proteins in milk and dairy products. Do you suffer from lactose intolerance? Write it in the comments 👇🏻. #histafit #factsfriday #histamineintolerance #histamineintolerant #histamine #lactose #lactoseintolerance #lactoseintolerant #intolerances #intestine #intestinalhealth

Repost from @bernadette.abraham • What is histamine?⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣I’m sure most of you have heard of ‘anti-histamine’ meds before, to help reduce allergy-type symptoms produced by our immune system.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣But histamines aren’t bad. Swipe right ➡️ Cortisol is our body’s primary stress hormone; its release can be triggered by any stressor. Regardless of what that may be, the body will secrete cortisol but it should reduce once the stressful event is over. If your cortisol is chronically elevated, many health issues can arise as they do for people who experience stress at work, at home, and in their daily lives. Symptoms of high cortisol levels include: ❌ Digestive issues like IBS ❌ Fatigue and insomnia ❌ Lowered immune function ❌ Weight gain ❌ Headaches ❌ Increased blood pressure ❌ Hair loss ❌ Skin issues The main takeaway from this: ✔️Manage your stress levels ✔️ Build in daily strategies for stress relief for example, exercise or breathing techniques ✔️ Do something you enjoy everyday If your cortisol levels are chronically elevated and you don’t know why, it’s important to work with a practitioner to identify your root cause. This can be related to gut health or other underlying conditions. I hope this post was useful. Neurodivergent people can have a multitude of gut and food reactions which fluctuate constantly, making life unpredictable and symptoms difficult to manage 😒 This vast number of overlapping symptoms can look very complex and it can become difficult for the person or their doctor or practitioner to tease out the root cause🤔 Communication differences and a general lack of practitioner training in how interoception affects IBS, digestive sensations, hunger/satiety signals, and food reactions means that key symptoms could be misunderstood or not taken seriously based on descriptions that do not match the clinicians expectations. 👩‍⚕️ Here's a summary of the most common food reactions I see in clinic and how we rule out/distinguish between them. Ever wondered why some harmless substances trigger such strong reactions? It's all about our immune system's response to allergens. When we encounter an allergen, our immune system goes into overdrive, mistaking it as a threat and producing antibodies like IgE. This sets off a cascade of chemicals, like histamine, leading to those familiar allergic symptoms. From sneezing to swelling, allergic reactions can vary widely in severity, and understanding the factors at play is crucial. Some foods can help bring down systemic inflammation and slow the production of histamine, which is definitely a plus in the middle of allergy season! Eating a well-balanced, whole foods diet with plenty of vegetables, healthy fats and foods low in sugar is a great starting point - and including some of these antihistamine superfoods can be effective too: Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids - Foods high in omega-3, such as fresh salmon, chia seeds, and flax seeds. Pineapple and Papaya - Vitamin C found in many fruits can inhibit histamine and supports the immune system, but some fruits also contain enzymes that actively reduce antihistamines in the bloodstream. Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain, and papaya contains papain, both of which can help break down histamine in your system to reduce allergy symptoms. Spices - Certain spices can act as decongestants. Ginger, in particular, is effective in reducing nasal symptoms. Early research suggests that curcumin, which is found in turmeric, can also ease the symptoms of seasonal allergies. Continuing #rosaceaawarenessmonth with a repost from @mebykatie. According to recent study findings, mast cells appear to play an intricate role in the pathophysiology of rosacea and could serve as potential targets for future therapies. Mast cells are the first line of immune system cells that interact with environmental allergens and antigens and are involved in other immune-related conditions like asthma, eczema, and seasonal allergies. When they detect an allergen, mast cells release histamine, which expands the blood vessels and can make the surrounding skin itchy, red, and/or swollen. Histamine is an immune signaling protein that causes allergies and swelling but has many other effects. For example, histamine regulates stomach acid, ovulation, and libido, which is why estrogen increases libido, and antihistamines decrease it. Histamine is also a stimulating neurotransmitter that can cause anxiety and insomnia. We now know that rosacea patients have higher levels of mast cells and, therefore, histamine. Histamines come from 3 primary sources: + Mast cells make them in response to allergens or irritants + Foods that naturally have histamines in them + Gut bacteria and yeasts that produce histamine When your body has more histamine than it can break down and remove, symptoms like red, itchy, or swollen skin, sneezing, watery eyes, diarrhea, rosacea, etc., can develop. Inside mast cells, these granules act as warehouses for a variety of inflammatory agents in your body, including histamine, heparin, a variety of cytokines, chondroitin sulfate, and neutral proteases. These substances are released when the mast cell degranulates—essentially, the granules open their doors to release what they hold within. When mast cells become increasingly triggered, you can find that you’ve become intolerant to histamines or have developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). Mast cell activation and histamine can play a role in premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

By now you’re likely quite familiar with what histamine intolerance is and the symptoms it may cause. After reading about the symptoms of histamine intolerance, you can probably understand why you get hives and skin rashes as a result of histamines being released into the skin. But... why would histamine intolerance be associated with such severe brain splitting headaches? Especially since the brain itself does not contain pain receptors, and is unable to feel pain? #histamine #histamineintolerance #histaminarm #histaminediet #histaminefree #glutenfree #lactosefree #histaminevrijleven

This is the time of year when people are struggling with seasonal allergies. As you get older, and estrogen decreases, your gut diversity decreases, so many women get seasonal allergies when they didn't used to. It can also be an indication of some underlying issues, and a cue that your cup of what your body can handle is getting full. Mold, viruses, infections, poor gut health all play a roll. When I was sick with mold I could not eat any fruit for months because my histamine intolerance was so severe. Thankfully that's in the past, and I'm never bothered by seasonal allergies. Histamine is used to regulate a healthy immune response, but it can get out of control. For purposes of this post, lets focus on helping the symptoms rather than the root cause - which is the opposite of what I like to do but if you need allergy relief, here are my suggestions, and supplements that I like. Histamine is the gut is broken down by the enzyme DAO. So, an unhealthy gut won't properly break down histamines. Blueberries have a lot of DAO, while strawberries have a lot of histamine, so ditch the strawberries for awhile and eat more wild blueberries. Research a low histamine diet, and stick to it until you're feeling better. A teaspoon of raw organic local honey from the farmers market a few times a day can also be a big help. Scroll through the slides to see products I like - this is not a sponsored post. Seeking Health has an amazing product bundle with an educational book on histamines. If you are a chronic histamine sufferer, that bundle is a good choice. If you just have some sniffles, you can just use quercetin with nettles, NAC, vitamin C and zinc. Seeking health has great probiotics in the bundle, but I also love the Lanto probiotic in addition, to put right up your nose. I'm a huge fan of homeopathics. Genexa has an incredible line of products. I also love their cold and flu line for kids. #histamineintolerance #histamine #seasonalallergies #allergies #perimenopause #menopause #guthealth

Biochemical factors like the ones listed here play a significant role in the development and experience of anxiety in kids. 😟 Fortunately, there are specific diet and nutrition considerations that can play a crucial role in supporting your child's mental well-being, particularly in managing anxiety: 👉 Anti-Inflammatory Diet: Eliminating common food sensitivities like gluten, dairy, and soy can help reduce inflammation, which may alleviate anxiety symptoms. 👉 Grain-Free Diet: Opting for a grain-free diet, such as Paleo or GAPS, can support gut health and reduce inflammation, potentially benefiting children with anxiety. 👉 Low Salicylate Diet: Avoiding foods high in salicylates, like berries and apples, can be helpful in managing anxiety symptoms for some children. 👉 Glutamate, Histamine, or Oxalate: Depending on individual needs, implementing diets low in glutamate, histamine, or oxalates may help reduce anxiety symptoms. 👉 Maintain Healthy Blood Sugar Levels: Including protein and healthy fats in every meal can help stabilize blood sugar levels, which can positively impact mood and anxiety. 👉 Avoid Inflammatory Foods: Steering clear of processed foods, artificial additives, and industrial seed oils can help reduce inflammation, which may exacerbate anxiety. 👉 Customized Supplementation: Ensuring your child receives essential nutrients like vitamin B6, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids can support brain health and mood regulation, potentially benefiting those with anxiety. It's important to remember that each child is biochemically unique and may require individualized support. So, rather than feeling overwhelmed by eliminating all these foods, focus on identifying the right diet and foods tailored to your child's specific needs. By proactively supporting your child through these simple dietary changes, you're empowering them with tools to flourish. 💚 #anxietyinkids #dietandnutrition #mentalwellbeing #anxietymanagement #allergenfreediet #grainfreediet #lowsalicylatediet #glutamate #histamine #oxalate #bloodsugar #inflammatoryfoods #supplementation #childhealth #wellbeingjourney #supportingkids #healthyhabits

✨Another Bowl✨ As you can probably tell from my posts I just can’t get enough of a good bowl recipe. This one I made with some fresh cucumer salad as well as roasted vegetables for a perfect balance - Cut up sweet potatoes and roast them in your oven or air fryer for 25 minutes at 180*C with olive oil, salt and fresh rosemary 🍠 - Cut up half a red pepper and half a zucchini and fry in a pan with olive oil, seasonings and salt 🫑 - When the vegetables are brown add in a mixture of cream, vinegar, honey and water and let it simmer until reduced - Slice up cucumber finely using a mandolin and let it sit in your fridge with 1tsp of salt for 10 minutes 🥒 - Afterwards squeeze out all the excess water from the cucumber and finish with a bit of cream, vinegar, olive oil and fresh mint - Cover the bottom of your bowl with lettuce 🥬 - Add all of your other ingredients, a cheese of your choice and your dressing 🧀 - For my dressing I mixed blueberry jam, olive oil, vinegar, salt and honey Enjoy! 😊 #histaminfree #histamin #histaminintollerance #histaminintollerant #histamine #vegetarian #mastcellawareness #sidedishes #sides #homemade #fromscratch #spoonies #narasmithera #cottagecore #highprotein #mealplanning #chronicillness #mealideas #mealprepping #mcas #mastcellactivationsyndrome #foodintolerances #foodsensitivities #lowhistaminelifestyle #mastcellactivation #girldinner #daodeficiency #dao

What is histamine?⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣I’m sure most of you have heard of ‘anti-histamine’ meds before, to help reduce allergy-type symptoms produced by our immune system.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣But histamines aren’t bad. They help remove whatever’s bothering us from the body. But they need to be in the right balance. Not too little, and not too much. Either extreme will lead to symptoms.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Excess histamine (pictured 👆🏻) can affect a number of organ systems:⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣🔹respiratory system (nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing…)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣🔹gastrointestinal system (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, pain…)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣🔹skin (rashes, hives, sudden flushing…)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣🔹nervous/circulatory systems (headaches, migraines, dizziness, tachycardia…)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣🔹reproductive system (irregular periods)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁? Swipe right for a list of common factors!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣👉🏻It can either be due to a high amount of histamine that’s being released/brought into the body, and/or an issue with the body’s ability to break it down.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Yes, genetics can play a role too – but our lifestyle choices determine how these genes express themselves.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Imagine a bucket with an opening at the bottom. Our bodies have the ability and capacity to heal on its own known as innate intelligence. The sole purpose is to keep you alive and protect and defend you as required. Your cells know to heal and it may take time. Toxins from the environment, negative news, negative people and an unhealthy lifestyle damage our cells. Mast cells are a type of white blood cell that is found in tissues and organs. They are involved in allergic reactions, inflammatory responses, and other functions. Mast cells produce histamine, heparin, and cytokines which help combat inflammation. Histamine is a compound stored in specific immune cells, including mast cells and basophils. The body releases the histamine to protect the body during an inflammatory or immune response to allergens. This is a normal part of a healthy, balanced immune system. Seasonal allergies, cough, cold, allergies to food triggers histamine to release in the body, Our problem begins when there is dysfunction or deficiency in the enzymes that break down histamine Headache, tachycardia, urticaria, pruritus, diarrhea, hypotension, food allergy , flushing, itching, brain fog, digestive problem, fatigue, hormone imbalance, migraine and hives all are correlated to histamine regulation and lack of Dao enzyme. To combat this we need to reduce high histamine foods for a while, high array of antioxidants and nutrients required. Listen to your body begin the journey of healing and wellness. #funtionalnutritionst #WellnessCube #hormonesbalance #chronicfatigue #chronicinflammation #mastcellactivationdisorder #histamine #cleaneatingchallenge

Not far to go now. It’s so good. I feel amazing! No hunger and well into ketosis. In the past I’ve often struggled to get into ketosis, but what I’ve learned is that my liver may have been the problem. (I’m now actively working on liver health, things should improve more. ) So here is a bit more info I’ve learned about histamine. If I have it wrong feel free to correct me 😅 Histamine is produced by mast cells in the gut when fasting and is processed through the liver to make Oleoylethanolamide or OEA. OEA is used by the body to make KETONES! If your liver isn’t functioning well, then you may struggle make ketone bodies. I’m now wondering if histamine may be more likely to build up in this case as it’s not being converted well… That could explain some stuff that was happening when I was fasting earlier in my carnivore journey. There is so much to learn! 😁 #intermittentfasting #fasting #fastingforweightloss #48hourfast #histamineintolerance #histamine #liverhealth #carnivore #carnivorediet #gettinghealthier #growingyounger #weightlossjourney #healthjourney

Springtime brings with it the beauty of blooming flowers and lush greenery, but for many, it also heralds the onset of sneezing fits, itchy eyes, and congestion - the dreaded symptoms of hay fever. While it might seem like an innocuous inconvenience, hay fever, also known as allergic rhinitis, can significantly impact one’s quality of life. At the heart of this seasonal torment lies pollen, a seemingly harmless substance that triggers allergic reactions in susceptible individuals. Pollen grains are the male reproductive cells of flowering plants, indispensable for plant fertilization and propagation. However, for people with hay fever, these tiny grains become agents of discomfort. The immune system of individuals prone to hay fever mistakenly identifies pollen as a harmful invader, initiating the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators that result in the classic symptoms of allergic rhinitis. The aim of our histamine complex is to help the body clear histamine efficiently by supporting the enzymes that clear histamine whilst reducing inflammation. Histamine is typically metabolised and broken down by enzymes in the body, primarily diamine oxidase (DAO) and histamine N-methyltransferase (HNMT), to prevent it from lingering and causing prolonged symptoms. However, in individuals with hay fever, the continuous exposure to allergens can lead to sustained histamine release and overwhelm the body’s ability to metabolise it efficiently.
