Trying to get back into posting my meals in case anyone else who is allergic to nightshades and gluten intolerant might want some ideas. (Fair warning: I am not a good photographer. Also, yes, anything potentially greasy is served over a paper towel to absorb any excess grease, because I can't eat heavily greasy foods since they evicted my gallbladder. ) . Tonight's dinner was chicken tostadas. The other meals pictured are two that I had earlier this week: Steak and cheese on a gluten free keto bun from @epiphany_bakery and cheesy sweet potato fries (made with white sweet potato). The pasta is gluten free with homemade alfredo sauce, broccoli, and bacon. I will try to post more consistently if I can. . IBS Awareness Month   Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) affects around 5-10% of the population worldwide, and affects more women than men. It is a gut-brain axis disorder, where gut-brain interaction is thought to alter gut muscle activity, causing the gut to become more sensitive. The bi-directional relationship between the gut and brain means that psychological factors including stress, anxiety and depression can worsen symptoms, and IBS may also play a role in development of psychological disorders. Newer research also suggests IBS reactions may be immune related (similar to allergies). The gut microbiota (GM) also plays a role in IBS: it is involved in gut-brain communication, dysbiosis (altered GM composition) has also been seen in people with IBS, and GM alterations can also impact the gut barrier and gut function, immune function and may result in abnormal fermentation of food (increasing bloating and gas).   Diagnosing IBS can be tricky as there are a range of symptoms that can vary from person to person, and these may also come and go.
Common symptoms include: - abdominal pain - bloating - diarrhoea or constipation (or both).   IBS symptoms can be managed by identifying and reducing intake of trigger foods, as well as other measures such as reducing stress and anxiety. A low-FODMAP diet is used to diagnose IBS and identify trigger foods (which are different for each person). 👉🏼 FODMAPs (Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols) are a group of carbohydrates found naturally in many foods that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine, meaning that they travel on instead to the gut and are fermented. This causes gas and bloating, which stretches the gut and triggers symptoms.   ❗️The low-FODMAP diet should only be followed under guidance of a health professional, as permanently eliminating all FODMAPs from your diet is not recommended (many of these contain fibre and beneficial nutrients that are essential for gut health).   If you think you may have IBS, it's important to see your doctor before you start eliminating foods from your diet to rule out other possible underlying causes of your symptoms. 📷:Polina Zimmermann

You need something to change for something to change ☄️ READ THAT AGAIN I noticed a really bad habit that I was doing. And that was getting home from work at 4pm and sitting with a coffee and snacks till at least 5pm. I would say 50% of the time I would end up falling asleep on the couch 😕 I NEEDED to do something to CHANGE this bad habit. So I have hatched a plan. And that plan is 4.30pm workout time. It gives me 30 mins to decompress my brain with a coffee and a snack and then up I get. Monday - run Tuesday - lower or upper body Wednesday - work commitments Thursday- run Friday - full body If I can get up for a walk then I do that too. Porridge Bratapfel Style 😋🍎 Good Morning ihr Lieben! Da das Wetter wieder ungemütlich ist, brauchte ich was warmes am Morgen! Daher gibt es an solchen Tagen gerne mal Porridge und gebratene Äpfel drüber! Ein Träumchen 😋 200 ml lactosfreie Milch (Mandelmilch oder Hafermilch geht natürlich auch) 50g Feine Bio Haferflocken Die beiden Zutaten kurz aufkochen lassen. Währenddessen in einer Pfanne, einen geschnittenen Apfel mit Zimt, ein wenig Wasser und Reissirup anbraten. Re-introducing me 🫶🏽 It’s 3 months on from when I started this page, so I thought now would be a good time to re-introduce myself to anyone that’s new around here, and also give an update to those of you who have been here from the beginning! In March I had the biopsy to see whether I have coeliac disease after eating gluten for 6 weeks. Luckily my results came back as ‘non coeliac gluten sensitivity’. They did find quite a lot of inflammation though so it still showed the gluten didn’t love me. Fast forward to today and I still eat as if I have coeliac disease (as I have the gene it means I have a higher risk to develop the disease in the future). I have a few other food intolerances that I’m trying to navigate at the moment, so follow along to see how that goes! I also share lots of gluten free recipes, tips, restaurant recommendations and more. I created this page so that others going through a similar journey don’t have to feel alone, as I know how isolating and frustrating it can be!
