I needed to find a way to get out of my head today. It was a really tough week for me. I started on a downward spiral last Sunday, and by the end of the week, I was left feeling an overwhelming sense of despair (see blog from yesterday). Even though we are having spring-like temperatures in February (which I'm not complaining about), our #summerofrich hikes have needed to be put on hold for the time being as Rich is dealing with a hernia that will not be removed until April. So, instead, I decided to go swimming at my mother in law's condo pool today. Like hiking, swimming brings me joy. The pool was the perfect temperature and a perfect distraction. I originally read this one back in 2020 when it first came out and loved it! I was in the mood to reread a book via audiobook and found this on Hoopla, so I decided to see if I still loved it. And I did! I have loved all of Allison Ashley's books but this book, her debut novel, is just such a beautiful romance novel. The characters are fun and likable, the banter is fantastic (I especially loved the pun wars), and the plot was emotional and heartfelt. I laughed often and teared up several times. It's an adorable novel and I'm glad I decided to reread it ❤️ If you haven't read an @authorallisonashley book yet, I highly suggest you give her a try! Also, the narrator was pretty good. Sometimes it takes two people being in the right place at the right time for a life changing event to happen. And sometimes that happens for all the wrong reasons. “Perfect Distraction” by @authorallisonashley was a thought provoking romance that starts in a setting where life begins and ends. Lauren and Andrew’s association is an interesting one in that it starts in a medical treatment setting, so there are some interesting ethical questions raised that relate to both of their perspectives. The fact that Andrew has a serious illness also increased the emotional weight of Lauren’s decisions about getting closer to someone else. I heard about the Roommate Pact and after listening to it I found that my library also carries her other books as well! 🩺QOTD🩺 What is one thing about a book that attracts you immediately? A pretty cover, a trope, a certain author? For me it’s romance and medical. I love STEM and medical in books. Then add a swoony romance in it, I’m SOLD! But as a nurse, I get super picky about medical talk. It HAS to be accurate. I'm a weirdo about this! 😂 One of the many things I love about Allison Ashley is her medical in her books. She just so happens to be an Oncology Pharmacist. Science nerds unite! After reading Would Your Rather and LOVING it, I had to jump into her backlist. Perfect Distraction is about a resident clinical pharmacist who just so happens to run into a handsome stranger in a coffee shop on the way to work. After this sweet and awkward meet-cute, she finds out that this stranger is one of her patients for the day, starting his treatment for a new cancer diagnosis. For Andrew and Lauren, close proximity and irresistible attraction rage war with their need to keep things professional. I devoured this book from beginning to end. This story pulled on your heart strings at every turn. Watching Andrew battle his chemo and seeing him so vulnerable was heart-breaking. He is so incredibly sweet and strong. And his heart eyes for Lauren were just so lovely and tender. I’m here for THIS romance! The chemistry was fire. Loved the banter and all the puns. I MELTED! Another winner by @authorallisonashley. #9!! Lauren and Andrew meet during one of the worst time of his life - when he is beginning treatment for cancer. They are immediately attracted to each other but can’t do anything about it because she works at the hospital where he is receiving treatment and was initially part of his care team. Although they try to remain friends, their attraction grows as they see more of each other. What will happen when Lauren’s co-workers find out about their relationship? Will she lose her chance at her dream job? Will Andrew’s treatment cure im his cancer? Will they have the chance to be happy together? I give this book 3.5 stars. It was a sweet story. I enjoyed Andrew’s interaction with his mother and sisters and I wish there was more of that in the story. There was nothing necessarily bad about it, but nothing too exciting either. In the last 5 days I've read 5 books so I thought I'd share them 😅 both Allison Ashley and Katherine Center are authors I'd never heard of before last week, but I am keen to read from both again! Just waiting for Would you Rather to come to Kindle 😂 I really enjoy Katherine Center's love interests - all of them were funny, goofy, warm hearted guys.
