We have finally done it🙌 We have moved to Scotland🏴 It has been the most stressful two weeks but we are so happy that we made the leap moving nearly 400 miles away. I mean just look at what is right on our doorstep😍 The wildlife that we have seen since we’ve been here is is insane and we even have little red squirrels that come into our garden. We have our very own little burn at the bottom of the garden, a mountain behind our house, stunning views and a loch a three minutes walk away. Lots of walking from our doorstep which is what we love. The slower pace of life and quiet is what we have craved for so long and we certainly feel things are so much slower here and it’s so peaceful. The local community is so welcoming and friendly❤️ Obviously we will miss family and friends like crazy but we will make it work🙌 🥰 The thing I love about Scotland is how big it feels. I can’t really explain why it feels like that other than how vast it is. It makes you feel small in a good way, but connected and puts everything into perspective. It has felt like so long since we just had an afternoon at the park, it's been non-stop since before Easter! It was lovely to move at such a slow pace, it took us over an hour to do what's about a 15 minutes walk to the play area, just enjoying playing with sticks, planting seeds (stones) and climbing. Bringing back a still picture to the grid to forever memorize this time in life where everything feels to be shifting into alignment. Because it feels good all the leaps of faith that have brought me here. Are exactly how I got to feeling this gratitude. If you know me, you know I love hair. but motherhood has consumed so many of my last years and it has felt every bit the roller coaster it's made out to be. Fast and furious, and hectic and beautiful, all at the same time. Which is also the same feeling I felt from the Hair industry. Witch is probly why I have found love in both. But juggling two hectic fast pace things sounds exhausting. And until now I never quite knew how to juggle both of those things. So to be stepping into a whole new realm of slower pace, more connection with clients, more one-on-one, more knowledge, more deep diving into each person's specific needs and wants, looking at the whole picture, has created such a feeling of peace in my body and soul. After years of struggling mentally with the hurdles of going back to hair, but knowing it was my passion, for all of this to be falling into place the way that it has has brought more life to my days and clarity into who I am as a person. My grandmother sat outside every afternoon - no matter the season- rugged up or in a shady spot, with a pot of lapsang souchong in her Spode Italian , my grandfather would set up up, make her comfortable with cushions or blankets and they’d have “40 winks”. They lived till they were 99. They knew a thing or two. Big changes happening! As a family we have made a huge decision to move away from Melbourne/ Naarm after 13 very happy years there. Melbourne is an incredible place, and I’ve loved peeling back her layers to get to know her very well. But I’m ready to embrace a simpler existence and to be more at one with nature on a more long term basis. Our 1st *real* hike this year! Timbers first time up Miller trail since I was pregnant with him. He did so well and slept the whole time, which is good because it was super windy. The weather today is gorgeous, and I am so thankful we got outside. Remembering to go outside when I am in a funk, especially still so newly postpartum, is so important. I think it was easier to hike when I was pregnant than postpartum with a baby. Watching the boys explore and in nature reminded me why I loved home schooling them so much. Being out in our element reminded me why I had considered moving us into an R. V and traveling full-time. Well today's message is coming through pretty clearly. I pulled one card from The Little Box Of Calm that I have on my kitchen counter as my daily inspiration. The other card came from my Elemental Empath oracle card deck. The message is clear, not only for me but possibly for you too. There is much going on in our lives from the daily To-Do list of household duties, to work duties and obligations. Then there are the mental and emotional things we do for ourselves and for others like being a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on, sometimes it includes over thinking, worry amd anxiety. These cards give us the reminder, and for some, the permission to slow down, not everything needs to be done today. Slow down and take inventory of what YOUR needs are today and this week. Yesterday's guidance was about taking the time to connect to Archangel Sandalphon and connect to your Earth Star chakra. An additional tid-bit is that this chakra is also an anchor. They actually mentioned it yesterday but I would like to give it another view. When you are anchored you are secured, fastened, tethered to a certain place. Usually when an anchor is used it is to keep one from floating away, to stay in one position. Basically the boat or vessel is grounded. When connecting to your Earth Star chakra you are grounding all your Being to Earth, to this place, to the place you are, connecting energies and balancing or recalibration your energies. To slow down, to rest, gives up the opportunity to do the same. It is from this renewed place of vitality that we can gain deeper connection with Source, our Higher Self, gain new wisdom and insights that help us in our present state of awareness and journey. So, take the time to go outside, even for a few moments and breathe in the air, connect to the sun, the trees, the presence of stillness. A while ago I designed a post that said “you’ll keeping learning a lesson until you learn it” and for me that lesson has always been: SLOW DOWN. We had no power for 5 hours, and can I just say how peaceful it was?! 😌 It's probably the most relaxed I've been in a while. Technology has become such the norm, and being forced to step away was eye-opening, to say the least. Even when you think you've got a handle on screen time once everything shuts down, it's calmer. I love stepping outside and it being warm. It's a small joy I feel every time I leave an air conditioned building. A feeling that I feel is somewhat exclusive to living closer to the equator. And this is one of the reasons I chose to live in Mexico. Keeping the hubby happy today on the Stuart Line birdwatching cruise from Exmouth. Loved it last year (despite being far more interested in the buildings than the birds!) and loving it this year too! The highlight for me is always these beautiful buildings at Topsham - along with the seals, but the pasty comes a very close third! 🏅 🥰 Life is incredibly hectic at the moment and it's a joy to have a few hours off work for something so calming and enjoyable. Slowing down might just improve your pace. Today I made my focus on slowing my pace down at the start of parkrun to try and maintain a better average pace. To my surprise it worked and I hit a PB. I felt absolutely amazing and while I was obviously tired at the end, I felt I could’ve kept up a 6:30m/km pace for a while. I also managed to stick to my aerobic threshold. Which explains why I was able to manage a consistent pace. My heart rate was consistent rather than massive peaks and troughs. Appreciating the slower month 🫶🏻 At first, I didn’t enjoy January but as the months gone on I’ve learnt to appreciate the stillness and peace of it all. Making local walks my ritual even around my 12 hour night shifts, on occasion walking straight after work before I even go to sleep! I could normally go 3 days straight without actually going outside on my night shift blocks, but it’s not healthy or good for me in general! Spring flowers. Feels a bit bizarre not having our hands on actual flowers this month. January is for us a time for rest and being creative in our studio at a slower space, playing with colour and design on paper and watercolour rather than stems in vases. How often do you take time to stop ✋🏻🛑?! Life is busy and it can be soo difficult to slow down sometimes. That’s when your brain becomes overloaded creating chronic stress hormones which lead to anxiety, low mood, poor sleep and even physical symptoms. The thing many of us don’t realise is that science shows us that rest actually makes us more productive, more focused and more creative amongst other things. When you’re resting you’re not doing ‘nothing’, your brain is doing the opposite and working at its hardest! I’m not talking about building in hours each day to sit and relax. That would most likely be un achievable. You need to start small and build up. Even just 5 minutes. Stopping doesn’t need to be sitting on the sofa either. It can be literally whatever you want or enjoy- a short walk, cup of tea, quick stretch, phoning a friend. It can feel really uncomfortable to force yourself to do this sometimes, I know it does for me. It might be going round your head that you “should” be doing other things. In that case, can you prioritise and think about what can wait and what really needs doing? Think of the difference it’ll make if you take some time to yourself and the long term benefits you want to see. These will only happen if you go through some discomfort to form new pathways in your brain.
