I must admit that this book has left an impression on me emotionally. The final chapter was so heart-striking that I couldn’t stop myself from crying. The quotes and phrasing that Madeline used in this novel were so poignant that they struck a chord in my heart. Despite the emotional turmoil I experienced while reading this book, I must say it was a beautiful piece of writing. The characters were well-developed, the plot was engaging, and the themes explored were both thought-provoking and relatable. The Song of Achilles is a story set during the Greek Heroic Age and retells the events of the Trojan War from the perspective of Patroclus. The novel mainly focuses on Patroclus’ relationship with Achilles, starting from their first meeting and leading up to their adventures during the Trojan War. The story centers around their romantic relationship and depicts their journey from boys to men. Patroclus is a shy prince who is exiled from his own kingdom due to an act of violent self-defense. He is then taken in by King Peleus, father to a teenage Achilles. The boys get to know each other and form an inseparable bond despite the gods’ disapproval. Achilles, who is destined to become the greatest Greek warrior, sees something in Patroclus’ soul that resonates with his own. ✨Beyond the Story✨ The Song of Achilles, to this day, remains one of my top of all time. Yet somehow, I’ve never made a dedicated post to it. Until today 🙂 But instead of talking about the book itself, I’d like to talk about the story around it. Why, aside from its immaculate writing and heart-wrenching tale, this has remained my most reread and most treasured book to this day. I read SoA many years ago. As a young college student on a summer internship, reading and writing were passions I had no time for during school, since, as it turns out, getting an engineering degree can really take up all your free time 😂 But summers? Summers were freedom. Summers let me remember my true passions. Reading, however, was a passion that had long been fading by the time that summer came around. I’d struggled for ages to find books I liked anymore and was DNFing books consistently. Then that summer, I went to a bookstore in Washington DC for the first time. Still my favorite one to this day, it was my first time seeing a bookstore with a cafe attached, my two loves in one building, oh what a miracle, I thought 🥹 I found SoA while there. I’d never heard of it before, never seen it before, nor was there a note of recommendation from an employee hanging beneath it, beckoning me to take it home. But for some reason, I left with it. And for the first time in years, I fell in love with a book again. SoA was more than another story for me. It rejuvenated my love of reading. It was inspirational for me as a writer, further growing my love of the craft, making me hope to someday affect others anywhere close to how this book affected me. It reminded me of the true power and beauty of what mere words on paper can do for us. Books are beyond their content. Books can be our saving grace. They may have brought us hope during a dark time. They may bring us sweet memories from when we first read them. They may have even made us a new friend. Yes, books tell stories. 5/5⭐️ 2/5🌶️ It’s just a really great book, written incredibly well. Every character has its purpose, and you can see the development throughout the book. I liked the setting a lot as well: Ancient Greece, castles, islands, beaches, mountains, and forests. I liked this new view of the Iliad from Patroclus’ point of view and, of course, his love story with Achilles. It was nice to read how it all started—the growing up of the boys, their training, discovery of the love interest, and lastly, the war for Troy itself. The ending is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. You would definitely feel a lot of different emotions in the last ≈50 pages, but that’s only another reason why this book is so great. If you’ve read the Ravenhood Series I doubt you came out of Exodus quite the same, I still think about the ending of The Song of Achilles and Kingdom of Ash needs no explanation. If you haven’t read Sword of Kaigen it’s amazing with some of the most cinematic fighting I’ve ever read. But nothing NOTHING has ever ruined me quite like Assassins Fate! I sobbed myself to sleep after finishing that book and I cried for days. Not only was it the most perfect ending to a series that means so much to me but I really wasn’t ready to say good bye to these characters, clearly 16 books just wasn’t enough. Fitz will forever have a special place in my heart and I still think about this series daily. I didn’t want to just picture all Hobb books but The Tawny Man needs a special mention that trilogy absolutely killed me! I cried so much throughout that trilogy and Fools Fate was hard 😭 like I’ve said before no one loves to rip your heart out, tear it to shreds then grind the shreds under their heel into the dirt quite like Hobb! Это больше про психологию война, настоящий героизм, про вопрос отцов и детей, историю троянской войны, а также сложносплетенные мифы и легенды древней Греции. И никакой пошлости! Границы стираются и остаётся только одно чувство, которое знакомо всем нам - любовь. И каждый, кто испытывал это чувство не сможет обвинить героев ни в чем. Все сочетается, все бьётся. 🌿Wer ist dein Lieblingsheld der griechischen Antike? 🌸Ich hab The Song of Achilles so durchgesuchtet! Mit Circe, dem anderen Buch von Madeline Miller hatte ich so meine Probleme mit der englischen Sprache, aber das war hier fast gar nicht der Fall! 🌸Die Liebesgeschichte von Achilles und Patroclus ist so schmerzhaft wie schön und hat mich sehr berührt! Ich fand die Dinge die passieren so unfair und hab deswegen immer noch einen Kloß im Hals. Gleichzeitig denke ich aber auch an alle wholesome Szenen in den Bergen mit Chiron. Achilles ist eine sehr einnehmende Persönlichkeit und Patroclus ist einfach nur herzensgut! 🌸Die Ilias bietet so viel Stoff, den man neu interpretieren kann und die Heldensagen rund um Troja werden nie langweilig, wie dieses Buch hier zeigt. 🌸Die ganzen griechischen Helden sind alle so unterschiedlich dargestellt, beispielsweise kommt Agamemnon sehr jähzornig und leichtsinnig rüber, während die Sympathien klar bei Achilles liegen. Wobei auch er nicht immer nachvollziehbar für mich war. Wie alle Helden leidet er an Hybris und auch sein Stolz steht ihm im Weg. Ihn mochte ich beim Lesen auch nicht immer. Mein Lieblingsheld Odysseus ist sehr ambivalent, aber er legt es im Gegensatz zu den anderen nicht darauf an, ein Held zu sein. 🌿Hast du The Song of Achilles schon gelesen? Il romanzo “La canzone di Achille” La storia ripercorre l’infanzia di Patroclo, la nascita dell’amicizia e dell’amore che si crea tra Achille e Patroclo, fino alla guerra di Troia al quale entrambi prendono parte. Tutti conosciamo la loro storia dal punto di vista di Achille, l’autrice invece sposta il focus sul punto di vista di Patroclo. In questa storia vediamo un Patroclo gracile, per nulla atletico e affascinante. Già dal primo incontro dei due, Patroclo ha impresso nella sua mente i capelli biondi del giovane Achille e non riuscirà più a dimenticare. Per me l’amore che si legge in questa storia è come un inno all’amore che può vincere qualsiasi difficoltà. Entrambi hanno sempre trovato il modo di ritrovasi anche quando li costringevano a separarsi. Hello all the magical creatures 🧚 Circe review 🏺🦁🐷✨️ It is a cr¡me against humanity, that I was obsessing over The Song of Achilles three years ago and only now read this masterpiece. I'm deeply sorry for this. This books tells the story of witch Circe from Greek mythology in the span of hundreds of years. We see her childhood in her fathers palace, later we go to her island for exile. We meet many people from mythology along the way: Dedalus, Odysseus, Ariadne, Jason and Medea and more. Every time I was like, I know that one😌 But most importantly we see her grow into her own person, making decisions about herself and living on her own, far away from her toxic family. Hi! I’m back with new obsession:) Here’s my first ever try at bookbinding! I made the rebind of “The Song of Achilles” by @madeline.e.miller . I read it recently, and couldn’t quit thinking about it ever since🫣 Bookbinding is so much fun, and I loved every step of the process🫶🏻 Here’s what I learned rebinding this book: • how to cut boards for the book cover • bead embroidery • how to cut shapes in the board to place the embroidered design in • how to make a three piece cover • how to glue mull, ribbon, and endpapers to the text block • how to sew custom endbands (kinda) I don’t have a cricut, and probably won’t be able to buy it anytime soon, so I had to come up with another idea for decorating my cover soooooo…I learned bead embroidery 🪡😆 I think it turned out pretty well as for the first try, but it was such a pain in the ass that I was thinking of quitting life a few times there🤡 The book cloth resembles the sea, so I added the pearl shell charm to keep up with the theme 🌊 Swipe till the end for the only process pic & video I made😆 Now I’m starting on my first typeset for one of the Wolfstar fics and I’m so excited to make a whole book by myself from scratch that I can’t even express it properly, so wish me luck I guess? Let's review The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller ⭐ 5/5 ⚜️ The Song of Achilles was one of my best reads of 2023. it's been six months since i finished it, but i still felt the heartache just flipping through the book while clicking the photos. ⚜️ The Song Of Achilles tells you the story of Achilles and Patroclus, from Patroclus' point of view. It's a retelling of the story of the great Greek hero Achilles, and later on, the Trojan war. ⚜️ Madeline Miller did a fantastic job of binding violent Greek tragedy with a tender love story which will leave a gaping hole in your heart. The grief, the heartbreak, the love and sorrow – you can feel it out of the pages. ⚜️ This one book had a very big impact on my emotions. My heart still clenches at the sight of this book, and let's not even talk about the quotes. I understand Greek mythology has a lot of versions, with the characters being portrayed differently in each, but I loved how Achilles was in this. ⚜️ It's easily one of my highly recommended books.
