⁉️ Gebt ihr Büchern zweite Chancen? . . Ich habe gerade Maze Runner 1 beendet. Es war mein zweiter Anlauf mit diesem Buch. Vor einigen Jahren hatte ich es schonmal begonnen und irgendwann abgebrochen, weil mich die ausschweifenden Erklärungen zu den Monstern im Labyrinth gelangweilt haben und weil mir die Romance fehlte. Heute brauche ich keine Romance mehr und habe dem Buch deshalb eine zweite Chance gegeben. . Hat es sich gelohnt? Schwer zu sagen. Es gibt Aspekte, die ich von Anfang an interessant fand (der mystische Teil - was hat es mit Theresa auf sich, warum können sie und Thomas miteinander kommunizieren, was war vor dem Labyrinth, wer sind die Schöpfer, wozu das alles?), aber der Fokus war für mich nicht ganz der Richtige. Die Monster und das Labyrinth fand ich auch beim zweiten Lesen öde. Aber gegen Ende konnte mich die Handlung dann richtig catchen, sodass ich auf jeden Fall auch Band 2 lesen werde. Ich bin optimistisch, dass Band 2 und 3 die Richtung einschlagen werden, die ich von Anfang an erwartet habe. Wünscht mir Glück🍀 . . As soon as it does, Tina is hunted by monsters and saved by a non-binary alien. She and her best friend are taken to space so that Tina can unlock the memories of the captain she was cloned from and fight in an ongoing intergalactic war. This is the first book in the Unstoppable trilogy. This was extremely fast paced. I kept having to take breaks just to catch a breath, because poor Tina doesn't get to. This is a YA sci-fi that captures the teen voice. It was cool to see that the aliens introduce themselves (and others) with their pronouns—totally casual and normalized. I don't read a lot of sci-fi and because this was so fast-paced, it was hard to keep up with all of the alien races and terminology. I'm not sure there's any reader out there who hasn't heard of Brandon Sanderson. His catalog is daunting, but I was saved from having to decide how to start when I was gifted the first three books of his Skyward series during Christmas. I read the first book, and it was SO good that I'm now committed to reading Sanderson's 1000+ page behemoth that is The Way of Kings. Before Skyward, there was only one other science fiction book I had read, and the genre has always been intimidating to me. Skyward, however, was so easily digestible. The pages are jam-packed with action sequences of aerial dogfights and maneuvering that, you'd think, would be confusing to read. However, Sanderson is such a gifted writer that it's so easy to visualize what's on the page. I loved the story and am so interested in seeing where it leads in the next few books. The main character, Spensa, is easy to root for - I mean, who doesn't want to root for a girl whose family has been persecuted their entire life because ONE person maybe did something bad years ago? Spensa's supporting cast is also brilliant, especially her spunky AI friend, M-Bot. There is so much I could say about this book, but the biggest compliment that I can personally give Skyward is that, toward the end, it felt very reminiscent of Rogue One (which is my favorite Star Wars movie). I cried multiple times within a 30-page spread, and I'm not even sure why - the urgency just made me feel something. For the Star Wars fans out there, it reminded me of Jyn & company's last-ditch efforts to finish their mission on Scarif despite being seconds away from tragedy. Overall, through Spensa's journey from outcast to heroin, Skyward explores the difference between cowardice & bravery, the consequence of legacy, and the complexities of identity and inner confidence. 5/5 stars. Skyward is a book I highly recommend.
I am not usually able to get into books like this one, these fall into the young adult dystopian category so these are not usually the books I gravitate towards or pick up. I kept seeing a lot about these books and so I decided to give the series a try but the first book sat on my shelf for a while and at first, I was not sure I would read the rest. The writing style is definitely different than most and certainly what some might consider unusual but I think it added to it considering the main character and her life so far considering she doesn’t get much interaction with others and even when she did, it wasn’t great. I’m already on the second book with some of the others ordered and I cannot wait to see what Juliette gets into as the series progresses. I’m really hoping to see her grow in a positive direction and overcome some of what she’s experiencing interacting with people who aren’t afraid of her. I know a lot of people have said they don’t understand the hype around the series and that they felt let down so they guess they went in with expectations too high. This universe is going to be living rent free in my head for the rest of my life. This is my new Roman empire. Weep is to Lazlo Strange as this world is to me. "Good little girls don't stab their nurses and drag toddlers over their corpses in order to save their lives. Good little girls don't kill. They die. And Minya was not a good little girl." Muse of Nightmares is the second book in the Strange the Dreamer duology. Laini Taylor expands the universe, and while this story about Strange ends, Taylor leaves me wanting to know so much more! Her prose is beautiful, and her characters are all so interesting. This duology is a heavy one, about grief, revenge, and moving on from the past. It has many content warnings (I recommend checking before diving in), but it is so incredibly worth the read. It may be hard to dive in to at first, Taylor doesn't really do a "lore dump" for world building, but don't let that scare you! All will be revealed when necessary, just go with the flow - like the characters, you are figuring out what is going on as information is revealed! Taylor hints at several different spinoffs within the same universe, so that makes me hope that she's not done writing within this universe for good! Ok, so let's talk about this book for a second, because I just finished it and I NEED to talk about it. First off, it deserves ✨5/5 stars✨ Why? Because it's absolutely amazing! Seriously, I could not put it down. I saw another review describe it as The Greatest Showman meets Star Wars, and that couldn't be any more accurate. Renner is a Flynn Rider type character so I instantly fell in love with him. While he had some growth throughout the story, Talie is the character who had the most. She starts out as naive, content to remain hidden with the circus. But as the story goes on, she reveals herself to be strong, independent, and her character continues to grow from there. I loved going on Renner's and Talie's adventures with them. There was heart-pounding action, a swoony love story, and colorful side characters. If there was one small thing that I felt lacking--and it didn't take away from the story, but something to note--it would be the world-building. However, as I said, it did not take away from the story and I still very much enjoyed the book. I will be waiting with bated breath for the next one to see what happens. @lynettenoni ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 stars) Reader’s Notes: -this is book 1 of 2 -this is told from Jane Doe’s point of view -there are about 13 curse words (most of them a variation of another word for donkey) Review: I really hope that my library will be able to borrow a copy of book 2 from another library because I can’t find it anywhere cheap and I need to know what happens! (*update: another library is allowing us to borrow it so I can read it! Interlibrary loans for the win!) I was hooked from the beginning and was just as in the dark as Jane was on the intentions of those she knew/met (though even more so since Jane kept her own secrets close). It was wildly entertaining and I couldn’t put it down! I loved seeing characters realize just how badly Jane was being treated for the past couple of years and stood up for her, insisting on treating her like a person instead of an experiment. I loved that Jane tried to not be affected by their kindness, and failed. I loved the twist after they discover what she can truly do (loved because it was written so well, but also was thrown back by the sudden change in personality a character made).
