It's hard to pay attention or focus if you're tired, dehydrated, or coming down from a sugar high. Until about 2 years ago, I slept about 4 hours a night. Now I get closer to 7 regularly. It's amazing how much you can accomplish if you're not dead tired. On Egret Island, T. rex is the may be the apex predator but it’s far from the only big carnivore around. While Spinosaurus may be a fish eater and usually avoids fights with other dinosaurs it won’t hesitate to defend itself when it needs to. On the rare occasions where a T. rex and Spinosaurus come to blows the very earth itself shakes. With its powerful bioelectricity, the Spinosaurus is a force to be reckoned with but the shear power and size of the T. rex make it more than a match for these electric predators. Sweetroll decided I was done editing last night. Lol. Okay, so I was already done, just catching up on stuff on my phone. But she wanted pets and cuddles, and there's no way I could've moved her to get back to editing. There's plenty I can do on my phone and still give her attention. Besides, last night I got the revisions on Faltering's illustrated version done and uploaded, made some revisions to Ascending's illustrated version, finished/added another image to Ascending, and edited several chapters in book five of Blood is Thicker. Day 7 #WriterFriendsChallenge: How many drafts does it take? First 3-4 chapters are agonizingly slow. Once I get a feel for the story, it flows. I plot before I write, so I don't have rewrites or extensive edits. I write what I feel needs to be heard—stories that cultivate clean, exciting, and impactful imagination. These books are so special to me. Fortunately, after Abaddon’s Gate being disappointing, the authors were able to recover themselves...somewhat but fail to return the series back to the standard the first two books set. Cibola Burn’s wild west theme was good and the dilemma about following the law or breaking the law to conquer the untamed frontier. This made the conflict between Holden and Murtry good to follow. Murtry was my favorite character because he was the most interesting. I’m probably in the minority when I say this but I believe Murtry’s actions were justified up until the final chapters of the novel when he turned into a straight, evil villain. Think about it from his perspective: He was the chief security officer of the colony ship and its company, RCE, was authorized by the United Nations, an international recognized governing body, to stake a claim on New Terra/Illus. His ship got blown up by the Belters during its descent and then the Belters waged a street war against his security team. In a way, he had the authority to reestablish law and order in New Terra/Illus, defend his RCE colonists, and protect the land grant provided by the UN. Aside from the wild west theme and Murtry v. Holden conflict, the other plots and characters in the novel were boring. I wasn’t enthralled by the protomolecule investigation. It is the geopolitical conflicts between UN, MCR, and OPA that hold my interest in The Expanse, not the protomolecule. Cibola Burn barely touched on the geopolitical game in the Sol System. With Abaddon’s Gate and Cibola Burn being weak, my faith in James SA Corey when I initially read these books years ago was shaken. It wasn’t until one to two years later that I returned to the series and read Book 5, Nemesis Games. And that’s when the series returns to its former glories! QOTD: What are your thoughts on Murtry? I'm writing about a chapter a day on the next novel in The Half-Light Chronicles, which means I don't have a ton of time for reading, and I tend to avoid reading other fantasy novels. I remember hearing that was a good thing to do to make sure you're not copying styles and whatnot, but it's honestly because my brain can't handle two fantasy worlds at once. But I'm totally okay with that because I've been meaning to try this YA SF series for a while now. I recently connected with @nova_mcbee_author in an online group and she is the sweetest person with such a desire for her words to positively impact people. I'm eager to dive in to Calculated, which is ALSO being made into a movie! And the book should always be read before watching the movie...right? Have you read this series?

☆UPDATE☆ A quick little rundown of what my writing work has been like lately! Clearly, there has been a change of pace! I'm currently writing a series of horror/sci-fi novels called "Peryton" (you've probably seen the posts). "Peryton" is contagion horror story about a virus that engages with the human amygdala and nervous system, locking them in one of 4 survival modes: fight, flight, freeze, or fawn and greatly escalating and magnifying their fear response most commonly programmed and recalled by their mirror neurons and shaping them into something more monstrous... Okay, but why? What happened to "Mosaic" and "Khaos Rising"? Those are still very much in the works! However, I needed a change of pace. I have a bad habit of attempting to take on the biggest challenges from the starting gate, and both KR and Mosaic are HUGE projects with massive worlds and complex systems. I plan for both of those to contain epic length books in epic series form. I need to pause. Refresh. Let myself succeed at something less momentous, though nonetheless challenging and in-depth. Peryton was an idea that struck me, characters and all, out of the blue while unfortunately watching "The Walking Dead". But I have learned, of all things, to never deny that spark, never betray your muse when she arrives. Peryton is going very smoothly, and well, horrificly due to the content. The other two epics are a MUST for me to finish as they have been years in the making, but they just need more time and less forced development for now. Just keep going. No matter what idea or notion you get, run with it. Always chase your creativity.
