I’m obsessed with this series 📚 @authorannekawalker knocked it OUT OF THE PARK with these matchmaking 💍 mamas 👵🏻 and the Rebels. I cannot wait to read 📖 more from them. Louisa. I loved 🥰 this FMC so much. She knew what she wanted and went for it. She was honest and kind and gentle 💜 But she also had a fiery 🔥 determination that made me love her even more. Her love 💗 of her brother, devotion to her deceased parents ❤️🩹, and determination to be positive ☀️ were just amazing. Seriously a fantastic FMC. Paul. I adore Paul. My heart breaks 💔 for him. With every part of his past that came to light, my heart just cracked 😔 a bit more. Paul is determined to make his way in the world 🌎 . He throws himself into work and swears to not marry 💍 until he can financially 💰 take care of his wife and family— and at this rate this will happen… never 🙈 His character is so different and refreshing. He’s a bit odd, he hates physical touch 😡, and he’s charitable to a fault. This story was so amazing 🤩 I adored every second of the audiobook (hence why I don’t have quotes picked out 💜). The matchmaking mamas were hilarious 😂 The schemes they got up to were ridiculous 🤣 and amazing. The Rebels attempts to thwart them were GOLD ⭐️ as well as the banter 🤣 All the friendships and found family 🥹 were just perfection 💋 Because Paul hates touch, the moments when him and Louisa share the smallest or simplest of touches just are 🫠🫠🫠 this is why I love regency 🥰 ⚠️CW: death of parents, physical and emotional abuse alluded to, near drowning⚠️ 🎶yes this song is about a cowboy, BUT the whole idea of acceptance and loving someone for WHO they are is 💯 this book 😘 🎶

I’ve been enjoying the Christmas festivities with my family, but I couldn’t let December end without showing some love to two wonderful Christmas romcoms: Merry Kismet by Anneka R Walker and Jingle Bell Jilt by Mindy Burbidge Strunk. Merry Kismet was the December pick for the Swoony Reads Society book club. It is a second chance love story set in a small town. The story is hilarious, heartwarming, real, and full of holiday cheer. Brie and Rockwell were so good together. Brie was so kind and hopeful. She is someone I would like to be more like; in our book club discussion, we were all in awe with how she handled Rockwell coming back into her life. Anneka was so kind to join our book club discussion. It was so fun to hear all the behind-the-scenes stories from her. I read Jingle Bell Jilt by Mindy Burbidge Strunk after Merry Kismet sold me on the A Gift-Wrapped series. After being left at the altar by her fiancé, Shay decides to take her honeymoon on her own. When a leak leaves the condo she rented unlivable, she finds herself staying in Evan’s guest room. The story that follows is funny, sweet, hopeful, and full of Christmas spirit. I loved how Shay approached life, especially how she tried to add happiness and fun to difficult situations. Mindy did a wonderful job of developing Evan and Shay’s relationship. It was beautifully done. I loved reading both of these books, and I am already planning on rereading them again next Christmas. They are that good. Audiobook Review of MERRY KISMET by Anneka R. Walker ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I love when authors are able to have dual narrators and I liked both of the ones used in this audiobook. I thought they both did a great job with the story. This Christmas romance really hit the spot for me because one of my favorite tropes is second-chance romance!! Brie still misses her high school boyfriend Rockwell Davenport who disappeared from her life 7 years ago without a word. When a store clerk gifts her with a notebook inscribed with "Kismet" across the cover, Brie decides to make a Christmas wish list for Santa and #1 on her list is "I want Rockwell Davenport for Christmas". According to Brie, Rockwell Davenport is "The cinnamon roll type. The good guy who cares about everyone, respects women, and has the manners of a gentleman. He's a cinnamon roll. Ultra yummy, inside and out." But Rockwell never planned to return to Bearwood, ID when he left, he's only back to help a friend and get his mom to agree to move to L.A. so he can help take care of her. I'm a sucker for a great second chance romance and this one roped me in right away. I loved the magical air about this one--how Rockwell was staying in the duplex next to Brie and that she was able to check off all the items on her wish list. I loved the dual POV and the small town traditions. This book had all the feelings of watching a Hallmark Christmas movie and it was just the right length--not too long, but not too short. Oh, and Brie was right--Rockwell is a cinnamon roll!! If you want to get into the Christmas spirit, grab this book and curl up with your favorite comfy throw. You'll be wanting to string popcorn, trim the tree and watch Christmas movies by the time you finish reading it. I received a complimentary copy from Dreamscape Select via NetGalley. 📖Currently Reading: Merry Kismet by @authorannekawalker After reading the Christmas Escape series a couple weeks ago, I saw that a few of the same authors came out with another collab series this year so onto to the TBR it went. The books are all standalone but I decided to just read them in order and am on book 2. I am about 50% through the book and am really enjoying it. It is a second chance romance and the set up for them meeting again was so fun (maybe some Christmas magic but also a meddling friend, lol). Merry Kismet by Anneka R. Walker Audio Pub Date: 12/20/24 Another holiday read! This one is more sweet and not so steamy. Brie and Rockwell dated in high school. He moved away but still crosses her mind. Brie makes a list after being urged to do so by a store employee who looks a lot like Mrs. Claus and basically manifests Rockwell back in town and knocking on her door. Their building of a friendship and then romance was sweet. Their banter was fun! RomCom with a magical element made for a great Christmas romance to warm your heart! I enjoyed the dual narration by Elise Taff and Sean Yves Lessard. They really brought the story to life. SYNOPSIS: BRIE Things I should never have done: Put my ex-boyfriend’s name on my Christmas wish list. Grin dumbly at him when he shows up at my door. Think it’s kismet that he’s staying on the other half of my duplex for the holidays and means we’re meant to be together. Because we’re not. He broke my heart in High School and never looked back. 📚 Book Review - Merry Kismet by Anneka R. Walker 📚 Brie and Rockwell were high school sweethearts, that is until Rockwell’s family is torn apart on the night of their high school graduation. Rockwell leaves without even a trace of an explanation to Brie. Ten years later, Rockwell is back hoping to convince his aging mom to move to L.A. with him. Simultaneously, Brie writes a Christmas list with Rockwell at the top of it. While I found this to be a cute holiday romance, it was just a little too cheesy for my taste. Predictability is often a characteristic of rom-coms, and I’m usually okay with that. Still, with this story, I knew what would happen from the beginning, making it harder for me to get into the book fully. I listened to the audiobook of Merry Kismet, narrated by Elise Taff and Sean Yves Lessard. I enjoyed both voices, but the chapters narrated by Lessard (Rockwell) clearly had a quality issue. It almost sounded like the recording was muffled or underwater. It took a few minutes at the beginning of each of his chapters to forget about the poor quality of the audio. This would be a great Christmas read for fans of Hallmark movies. If you are looking for a Christmas romance, I have the perfect one. “Merry Kismet” from @authorannekawalker was such a delightful read with the perfect combination of laugh out loud and swoony moments. I had so much fun reading it that I'm hoping to reread it this month. There is so much to love about this book. Let's talk about our leading characters. Brie is totally relatable. I loved her! Rockwell is all things a hero should be. The book is dual POV so we get both their perspectives which is a Christmas gift. It's so fun to read both sides to some of their moments. What else makes this the perfect read? The small, charming town of Bearwood and its residents. Christmas wish lists. A mischievous cat. A midnight break in. I don’t know how, but I’ve never heard of kismet, so I was excited to start this. And @authorannekawalker amazed me once again! She writes the sweetest stories! This second chance romance was beautiful! Brie and Rockwell were high school sweethearts and everything was perfect till he broke up with Brie after their graduation. It broke her heart and she never understood why he did it. Now years later, he’s moved back to his hometown to try to convince his mom to leave and come live with him, due to her health. When he finds out Brie lives in the duplex next door to him, he knows he’s in a pickle. Will they be able to mend their broken past and rekindle their love for one another? Rockwell was precious. He was so sweet to Brie and such a gentleman. He was great at small gestures and showing Brie how much he loved her. Brie was spunky, witty and so much fun! She never stopped loving Rockwell and she was determined for him to stay this time. I loved all the flirting and teasing. There were so many good scenes between these two! I laughed so much and loved every minute of this sweet book. The small town setting was perfect. I loved all the side characters! All the cozy aspects of Christmas were all wrapped up in one delightful book! Definitely add this to your Christmas book reads this holiday season!! MERRY KISMET by @authorannekawalker ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was my first Christmas romance of the season and it really hit the spot for me because one of my favorite tropes is second-chance romance!! Brie still misses her high school boyfriend Rockwell Davenport who disappeared from her life 7 years ago without a word. When a store clerk gifts her with a notebook inscribed with "Kismet" across the cover, Brie decides to make a Christmas wish list for Santa and #1 on her list is "I want Rockwell Davenport for Christmas". According to Brie, Rockwell Davenport is "The cinnamon roll type. The good guy who cares about everyone, respects women, and has the manners of a gentleman. He's a cinnamon roll. Ultra yummy, inside and out." But Rockwell never planned to return to Bearwood, ID when he left, he's only back to help a friend and get his mom to agree to move to L.A. so he can help take care of her. I'm a sucker for a great second chance romance and this one roped me in right away. I loved the magical air about this one--how Rockwell was staying in the duplex next to Brie and that she was able to check off all the items on her wish list. I loved the dual POV and the small town traditions. This book had all the feelings of watching a Hallmark Christmas movie and it was just the right length--not too long, but not too short. Oh, and Brie was right--Rockwell is a cinnamon roll!! If you want to get into the Christmas spirit, grab this book and curl up with your favorite comfy throw. MERRY KISMET by @authorannekawalker is available now! I was thrilled to read another book from Anneka Walker and Merry Kismet is an absolute delight. This book does wonders for my list-making heart. I adored Brie and Rockwell. The beginning of the story is so fun and I loved her shock when Rockwell shows up. I don’t want to give spoilers, but it’s so cute. With Anneka’s books I am constantly highlighting my favorite parts, I should just give up and highlight the whole thing! One of my favorite lines was: “If it’s meant to be, things will work out on their own.” There were many times I was laughing out loud. Brie was so funny. Rockwell was the grumpy ex-boyfriend who also was wonderful to read. All of the supporting characters were written so well. This book has the perfect Christmas feel to it. ✨REVIEW ✨ 📖An Unwitting Alliance by Anneka R. Walker My first Anneka R. Walker book!! I have waited so long to be able to get my hands on a book by this author. I have heard nothing but praise for her books. Now that I have read a book of hers, I understand why her books are so loved. WOW. What a delightfully beautiful introduction to an author. An Unwitting Alliance was difficult to put down. The storyline and characters captured my heart from page one. This is one of those books that feels like home. An Unwitting Alliance was one of the most comforting books I have ever read. The characters were all well written. The Vail family is one of my new favorite book families. The romance between Cassandra and Tom was humorous and beautiful. I loved watching their relationship slowly grow from an unexpected pairing to such a romantic relationship. Their scenes were beautifully written. I finished this book almost a few months ago. I am still thinking about this book today. I think it might already be time for a reread! Have you heard of Kismet, the idea of a fated romantic meeting? I’m not so sure about fate, but I loved this second chance romance with a little bit of Christmas magic thrown in there. I love second chance Romance. In real life, sometimes I think two people meeting that are good for each other is hard enough, but add it their readiness for a relationship and their lives fitting together and it can feel quite impossible. I love that their relationship ended initially without any huge reason, other than that life had thrown some curveballs and growing was needed. Lots of sweet Christmas moments made this a really fun Christmas book. Forced proximity The cat scene Lots of flirting Family parties Small town shenanigans Christmas wish lists It was such a great Christmas read. I loved the length of it. Not too long, but not a novella. Perfect for a quick read and Christmas spirit rush. Completely not relevant to a good book, but I loved the male main character’s name. Rockwell! This was a name we hoped to use if we had another boy, but after 3 girls in a row we didn’t get a chance. He went by Rocky for short, but we always thought Wells for short would be so cute. Ahh baby names. The task I never imagined would be so hard to do with the father of my children. 😂 Available November 2nd! The cat in this picture is our cat Lobo when he was a kitten. I love stories set in December and I love to read them outside of the Christmas season. It’s an easy way to bring a little holiday magic into your life any day of the year. Anneka R. Walker’s novel Merry Kismet was the perfect magical escape for me this past weekend! The story sucked me in from the get go and I found myself dying to return to the pages when I had to put it down. One of my favorite things about Merry Kismet was all of the holiday magic. Anneka incorporated so many fun holiday traditions while also introducing me to a few I’ve never heard of. I love that some of the traditions/events were big but most of them were simple. It was fun to see Brie and Rockwell have fun wrapping presents and stringing popcorn together. 💙ARC Review💙 What a beautiful regency romance story!!! Arranged marriage is one of my favorite tropes and this story proves why! It has all the romantic tension, witty banter, teasing and swoony moments you could ask for! Tom and Cassandra meet at a ball and due to a misunderstanding, Cassandra leaves hurt and angry at Tom. Tom arrives home and finds out his parents have arranged for him to marry a woman he doesn’t know. He travels to her home to meet her, only to realize it’s Cassandra. Neither one wants to marry the other, so they scheme together to get their parents to end the arrangement. This is where it all gets very interesting! Tom can’t help but tease Cassandra! He loves to get her all riled up! She is determined not to fall for his charms, regardless of what her heart may be starting to feel. Though, as they start to spend more time together, they begin to realize maybe an arranged marriage isn’t so bad after all! I adored Tom and Cassie!! So many laugh-out-loud and tender moments between them! Their witty banter was the best and all the teasing from Tom had me giggling and smiling so big!! Book Review of AN UNWITTING ALLIANCE by @authorannekawalker ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beware of Matching Mamas! I'm loving this series and love this book more than the first one!! The author had me hook, line and sinker at the disastrous first meeting between Tom and Cassandra (Cassie). Tom (aka Teasing Tom), like all The Rebels, doesn't want to be married, so when his parents tell him they've arranged a marriage for him, he travels to the home of his betrothed to talk her into breaking the agreement. Their parents made this agreement when they were mere children, they can't possibly think Tom and Cassie will go through with it!! What a shock when he discovers his betrothed is the beautiful young lady from the ball with whom he had the unfortunate incident!! What follows is two people falling in love while trying to get out of an arranged marriage that neither wants. Tom is such a sweetheart and Cassie is determined, headstrong, tenacious...in other words--she's stubborn. But Tom still manages to win her heart. What I loved: * Enemies to lovers (it's my favorite trope) * Cassie's letter to Tom (hilarious) * So many siblings (all Cassie's) * The nicknames Tom gives the siblings * The basket of kitties (who doesn't love kittens?) * Dual POV * The Rebels * The letters from the Matchmaking Mamas I'd give this book more than 5 stars if I could. This may well be my favorite book by Anneka Walker. It's sweet, touching, full of lively banter and hilarious moments, and it had me rooting for Tom and Cassie to come to the realization they would be wonderful together. I love the friendship between the Rebels and how they're always there for each other. The side story of little Alan touched my heart and I loved how the author used it to help heal Tom's heartache caused by his younger brother's death. I ADORE this book even more than I was expecting to. Walker does it again with a stunning and breathtaking romance that touches the heart and soul of the reader. Cassandra is the stubborn, yet oh so sweet, heroine that readers will come to love as you watch her interact with her family and yes, even Tom. And Tom. Oh, wonderful teasing, tender, thoughtful Tom. I love the way he gets Cassandra riled up while flirting endlessly with her. His confidence and struggle within fighting his own demons. Together Tom and Cassandra's never-ending witty banter and hilarious antics keep you entertained throughout. His courage was gone.” I absolutely LOVED the second matchmaking mamas book! An Unwitting Alliance takes a different spin on matchmaking than the first book, Bargaining for the Barrister. Tom has found himself suddenly betrothed to a woman he has never met. A woman who describes herself in a most unflattering light and dreams of becoming a spinster. Ending their engagement should be easy right? We don’t see our lovely matchmaking mamas, I mean musical society, as much in this one although they do make a few appearances. Their advice for Tom is fantastic and I loved seeing what each one had to say. One of my favorite parts of this novel was the Rebels. We get to see them so much more and even get to see inside one of their righting of wrongs missions. We witness it all from the initial gathering to the plotting and carrying out of the plan. Lastly, Anneka R. Walker has done an amazing job writing our main man, Tom, and leading lady, Cassandra. Their personalities, flaws, and relationship building are beautiful and genuine. If you want someone humble, you must accept his past. It's not always so black and white, of course, but men were created with strengths and weaknesses much like our own. It is up to you to choose which ones you seek in your companion." This was a sweet and delightful historical romance. The first in a series about a group of matchmaking (aka meddling) mamas determined to see their circle of spirited children happily married. But this tight circle of young "Rebels" has other ideas! Can they withstand? In this one we have Barrister Paul Sheldon, determined to make his own way in the world despite his family's wealth, while carrying painful scars from his past. The mamas bring in spirited Louisa, carrying her own wounds too, and determined to make the best of life - including make a match that is not a fortune hunter intent on her dowry. Overall I truly enjoyed Paul and Louisa's dynamic. I was intrigued to discover Paul's past and loved seeing him slowly soften to Louisa. I also appreciated Louisa's attitude - that as she developed feelings, she wanted to win Paul in her own right and refused to be foisted on him, willing to walk away if he was truly uninterested. And I loved the group of young, tight-knit "Rebels", their friendships and dynamics, and their unwavering support of one another. The only thing that docked it half-a-star is that first it felt too neatly resolved. Paul seemed to get over the scars of his past a little too quickly considering how long he harboured them and I don't think the book would have suffered from a couple more chapters. Also, I felt the mamas went too far in their meddling and single-mindedness to see a match almost blindly regardless of feelings - though fortunately this was addressed. Truthfully, if you are reading this review, you are wasting valuable time that could be spent reading this book. I mean, I'm happy you're here but seriously, this book. 😍😍 I am not sure that I've read a book where I felt like two characters were as well suited to one another as Cassie and Tom. They balance one another in a beautiful way and I am here for all of it. If you like arranged marriages, meddlesome mamas, forced proximity, opposites attract, big families, cats, teasing- such good, butterfly inducing teasing, sweet romances, funny - I laughed out loud multiple times, and a romance that has more than just romance, you've gotta read this book. An Unwitting Alliance by @authorannekawalker is an absolutely delightful treasure of a book. I adored every page. Each line was well crafted and I loved the humor. There were so very funny moments (Cassie’s original letter to Tom, eggs at breakfast, spicy meals, to name a few). And there were also sweet, kind, and brave moments. I had so many highlights of wonderful quotes and lines in the book, almost the whole thing was purple. Tom is a book hero I won’t forget any time soon. His side story was wonderful and dear Alan, my heart! I loved the advice Tom would receive from the Mamas. I loved it when the Rebels came. The author does a splendid job with the characters of this story. Each character was done so well, I was sad to see it end, because I will miss my friends. I received an eARC from the publisher. 📚Book Review📚 I loved: 🐱Dual POV 🐱Arranged marriage 🐱Enemies to lovers 🐱All the nicknames 🐱The kittens 🐱Stories in the stable 🐱Tom in disguise 🐱Their first kiss 🐱Little Alan I loved this book! I loved all the teasing and banter and the moments of vulnerability with the main characters. I love how their relationship gradually changed throughout the story. I just loved Tom! I loved each part of his character and how he was easily able to make a heavy situation lighter. I love how even though he has his struggles he tries his hardest to trust Cassie with his deeper feelings and emotions. I also love how much he values the choice of others, especially Cassie. I loved the independence if Cassie's character. All she wants is to be given the chance to choose for herself who she marries. Tom loves to tease and it just makes Cassie feel as though she cannot trust anything he says or does. I love how as she learns more about Tom's deeper character she is able to slowly trust him a little bit more. This is the second book in The Matchmaking Mamas series. It can be read as a stand alone. There is something comforting about returning to friends and stories that you know. I also love how there is still so much to discover and you notice things you hadn’t before. Since Anneka R. Walker’s second book of the Matchmaking Mamas Romance series releases tomorrow, I HAD to dive back into Bargaining for the Barrister. I didn’t want to forget a single thing about the characters. I still love this book so much. Even though I knew the storyline and there were no surprises I found myself still captivated by the story. I giggled at the Rebels and the matchmaking mamas antics. My heart broke for Paul and Louisa time and time again. I was even hooked so much that I was up reading until 1:00 this morning! I absolutely love this novel and highly recommend it. I cannot wait to see what the second book, and Unwitting Alliance, bring us!

📚Book Review 📚 An Unwitting Alliance by Anneka R. Walker (Matchmaking Mamas #2) 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This next book in the Matchmaking Mamas did not disappoint! I absolutely loved how Cassie and Tom met! Awkwardness and misunderstandings, those always make for good stories! I could not believe when they crossed paths again in a way neither thought would happen (and neither did I)! I loved the quirks about Tom, his color blindness and his sense of humor, he definitely kept me laughing and smiling. He had a huge heart of gold and I loved his care for everyone in his life. Cassie was a bright light and her love for her family warmed my heart. She was definitely stubborn but I could not fault her for her feelings towards Tom and for wanting to choose her own path. Watching their journey was one of the most beautiful things. I loved their common goals of helping others. I loved all of Tom’s friends and his nicknames for them made me smile. How does someone come up with so many nicknames? I think everyone would love to have a group of friends like the Rebels. One of my favorite parts was the advice from the mamas.
