đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– This one was cute and fluffy but didn’t exactly hit the mark I was expecting it to! Rating = 🌟🌟🌟.5 Pages = Audiobook 🎧 . . “Mother is a verb, not a noun.” . . Synopsis 📖: The Authenticity Project is a notebook that brings a select few of random strangers into each other’s lives, mostly for the better. The notebook finds them all at different stages in their lives, and intertwines them through heavily emotional periods. Pooley’s writing was quaint and easy to comprehend. No lyricism but was pleasant overall. It didn’t captivate me the way I’d have hoped for it to which was underwhelming and a bit disappointing. . . . The premise of this book was so promising and I was immediately intrigued! About halfway through the book, I thought it was ending because it seemed a natural way to wrap up and nothing was really moving the plot forward. The writing seemed to have a drop off and the plot did not really pickup from there on in
it made for a slightly sluggish read for me personally. I felt the simplicity of the book could have been executed better because the simplicity fell flat and left me somewhat bored. These characters, though kind and endearing, were one dimensional and not interesting to me. I’m left bummed by this one! Have you read this one? đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– Rom-coms are back in business, baby! What a fun lil romp this book is! Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5 Pages = 400 . . “I’m a cynic. And a cynic is a romantic who’s too scared to hope.” . . Synopsis 📖: Daphne’s life seemingly implodes when fiancĂ©, Peter, comes home from his bachelor party to say he’s leaving her for his best friend. To throw another wrench into things, Peter’s best friend has also called off her relationship with her boyfriend, Miles. This is a juicy plot from the start! Henry let me down with “Happy Place” due to lack of banter, but this book fully redeemed her in my eyes! She writes tension, turmoil, and relationship dynamics so well! . . . I really loved the first half of this book, and I enjoy watching a FMC develop herself outside the context of the male she used to revolve her life around. So many women lose themselves within relationships, and I love watching independence develop throughout a cutesy rom-com like this one! Though, I couldn’t relate to Miles having some sort of compulsion to people-please and cultivate stranger’s affection. And to be honest, it sort of really irritated me!! I think he might be my least favorite Em Hen leading man, and I HATED how he handled the aftermath of his toxic breakup. The banter and tension saved this book in my eyes, and I’ll be happy if Em Hen stays this course! But, Emily if you’re seeing this, I need another August MMC pronto. Have you read this one? đŸ«–đŸ“– BOOK REVIEW đŸ“–đŸ«– The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟 . . . “The aim of the novelist is not only to hold up a mirror to the world, but to imagine what’s possible.” Sue Monk Kidd   The Book of Longings is a meticulously researched historical fiction with a reverential approach to Jesus’s life and his humanity. It is also a provocative feminist theological speculation about Ana, Jesus’s wife, and her bold struggle to realize the passion and potential inside her, while living in a time, place, and culture devised to silence her.   Some readers find the novel controversial. . . Summary 📖: The Book of Longings is supremely a love story between Jesus ben Joseph, an itinerant stonemason and part-time carpenter from Nazareth, and Ana, a willful, privileged, and well-educated daughter of a well-placed scribe in Herod’s occupational government in Galilee.   The novel’s title perfectly describes the heart of Ana. Throughout Ana’s life, first as the daughter of a high-ranking official, then as the wife of a poor carpenter and finally as a member of a community devoted to study and prayer, Ana continually expresses a yearning to pursue her passion in spite of society insisting literacy is incompatible with her role. Only her husband and her aunt seem to understand. Ana’s longings are palpable throughout the book, and while she ages and matures, the undercurrent of desire never abates. Have you read this one? đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– The whole “influencer” narrative has never appealed to me so I think that’s why this one wasn’t my fave by Jewell! Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Pages = Audiobook 🎧 . . “When she doesn’t like the reality of things, she finds a reality she prefers.” . . Synopsis 📖: Birthday twins, Alix and Josie, cross paths at a restaurant on their birthdays, and Josie makes it her mission to befriend and envelop herself into Alix’s life. As Alix starts to unravel Josie’s life story, she realizes she might have seen more than she bargained for. Jewell always writes twisty narratives that keep you compelled but this ending left me pretty bummed. I thought the writing was excellent up until maybe two thirds of the way threw the book. . . . This book didn’t have the psychological thriller aspect that I truly wanted. When I read a thriller, I need it to pack a punch. And an unexpected punch at that! But this story just didn’t have that for me and I felt let down at the end of this. That being said, I was really drawn in at the beginning especially with this sinister side character creeping her way into lives in unexpected, chilling ways. The tragic events that follow were predictable and seemed a bit performative honestly. For me personally, the ending stories were are left with did not align with how the characters were written for the entirety of the book. I will still continue to read this author though!

đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– Another cutie pie from Ali Hazelwood! This one was FUN on audio and super quick, light read as is her usual. Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Pages = Audiobook 🎧 . . “Have you considered that maybe you’re already the way I want you to be? That maybe there are no signals because nothing needs to be changed.” . . Synopsis 📖: Elsie meets Jack under strange but necessary circumstances, and when her dream job opportunity presents, she might be forced into actually tolerating Jack both socially and professionally. Hazelwood writes in such a fun area that is rarely explored - that of women in STEM - so it’s always fun to see the balance she works between romance and professionalism. This one had too quirky of main characters for me to really connect, but the overall plot was cute. . . . Definitely not my favorite modern romance but, again, I appreciate women in STEM being represented and it lends itself to a more interesting story for me personally. With the tie-in from Love Hypothesis, it seems Hazelwood is angling for create a STEM romance universe! I didn’t love the miscommunication that went on for the majority of this book, and again I didn’t love our FMC so I found it hard to really lean into this one. I also couldn’t connect with this author trying to write everything within the vein of “I’m super current and hip and cool so these are Gen Z kids ya know?!” It felt super forced. It was an easy read but not my favorite, by far! Have you read this one? đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– I’M BUMMED!!! That’s all. Rating = 🌟🌟.5 Pages = 419 . . “The magic still gathers, and the past is gilded; I see the beauty in what has been but only because I have tasted both sorrow and joy in equal measures.” . . Synopsis 📖: We pick up our story just two weeks after book one finished. Essentially it’s the same as book one, only the roles have been swapped. There’s not much more to it than that. This author wrote such a beautiful story in the first book that I thought I would devour this sequel
unfortunately, that couldn’t be further from what happened. Lack of world building (or just no world building at all), lack of payout in terms of characters, storyline, and plot intrigue
this one was rough for me! . . . I wanted to DNF this so badly, and now that I think back, I’m not entirely sure why I pushed through just to have a mediocre ending and this entire experience leaving a sour taste in my mouth. I pushed to finish this book purely because I wanted to pick up truly anything else ASAP. The Iris and Roman connection was absolutely obliterated in this book and I didn’t feel it at all in this story. The fantasy elements just were not there and the book just felt disjointed and sloppy. I thought the gods would have a bigger payout in this story but were worthless and one dimensional, and they all felt like a waste of paper. Once again, I should not have trusted booktok!
#instadaily #picoftheday #booksofinstagram #dailybook #bookpic #dailybookpic #reading #bookstagram #thriller

đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– If you’re not new here, you all know I love a good mythology retelling! Unfortunately, this one didn’t quite stick the landing. Rating = 🌟🌟🌟.75 Pages = 336 . . “It was not until ten summers later, when Theseus came to Crete, seeking power beyond what we could give him, that I learned the truth: that any man can throw words up into the air, and it it women who must pay when those words land.” . . Synopsis 📖: Phaedra’s tragic story is told through many POVs, with some POVs being quite irrelevant, but as readers we see her traverse her iconic storyline both in Crete and Athens. I found the author’s writing to be quite curt and very easy to digest, that is to say, if you want a story to be right to the point, look no further! Lacking the poetic writing style I’ve become accustomed to in mythology retellings, I felt a bit underwhelmed. . . . I felt the powerful, strong elements of Phaedra’s story were glossed over and her character should have been more prominent since this was ultimately HER story. Women and their plight under the ruling of men was clear in this story, however I felt that there was much more speculation around our main character than actual plot. The intensity I craved here was lacking and left me more than slightly disinterested during the last third of the book.the different POVs that should have brought various emotions and thoughts to the story just felt bland and the exact same. I wanted nuisance and emotion and powerful stances! Have you read this one? đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– This one was super hard for me to rate because I LOVED the first half of this book but then really disliked the second half, unfortunately! Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Pages = 336 . . “Yes, he just wanted her to want to be a mom, in the same way that he felt, with all of his blood, that he was a dad first, and everything else in the world an obscure, unfathomably distant second.” . . Synopsis 📖: Told through multiple POVs, kitchens of the great Midwest are explored. With a prominent through line focusing on a character, Eva, we see various aspects of characters lives and love of all things food and the dining experience. I found the author’s writing in the first half of this book to be stellar! I was fully committed, super poignant insight into Midwest culture, and endearing characters. The second half of this book was tough for me due to dislikable characters I found hard to connect to or empathize with. . . . I really loved the Eva POV and stories revolving around her life, but I found some of the POVs to be dry and uninteresting. The tone was pretty consistent throughout the book until the last portion of the story which sort of threw off my rating for this one. I honestly would recommend reading some of these chapters as short stories rather than reading this whole book, if that makes any sense? Maybe I’m just not as much of a food memoir person as I thought I could be! Have you read this one? đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– Abby Jimenez is one of the rare modern romance writers that I truly enjoy! Such a fun, light read! Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟.25 Pages = Audiobook 🎧 . . “I’m sorry someone made you feel like it’s hard to love you.” . . Synopsis 📖: Two doctors meet in unexpected circumstances both coming out of very serious, disappointing relationships. Quickly enemies turn to lovers in this uplifting, endearing modern romance story. This is my second book from this author and she writes interesting characters with depth, and somehow gets the romance tropes just right! She perfectly balances nuisance with banter and strong female main characters. . . . This book is so tender and the MMC is just a lil sweetheart! Jimenez’s stories always make me feel a range of emotions, with the promise of a happy ending so I don’t know what’s not to like here! I work in the medical field so it’s always a joy to see this career written with detail and professionalism around tough topics. This book ticks a lot of boxes for me personally in this genre - and as I have said, this author expertly navigates the romance field. My only gripe is the last third of this book
it sort of lost me? The inner monologues at the end were just not hitting for me and overdone in my opinion. I never have a ton to say regarding romance reads because you either enjoy them for what they are or you don’t. But if you happen to be searching for a happily ever after story - this is an excellent choice! Have you read this one? đŸ«–đŸ“– BOOK REVIEW đŸ“–đŸ«– The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 . . . A resounding bravo for this read!   The Frozen River is the first book I have read by historical fiction author Ariel Lawhon. It is an atmospheric, unique, and elegantly written page turner that will satisfy mystery lovers and historical fiction enthusiasts alike. . . Inspired by the true story of midwife and healer Martha Ballard of Hallowell, Maine, an incredible woman whose story would have gone untold had it not been for her meticulously kept diaries, The Frozen River explores the complexities and societal pressures of women in colonial America.   This expertly researched and immediately gripping literature transports readers to 1789 Maine, where a man accused of rape turns up dead, an Early American town seeks justice amid rumors and controversy, and Martha Ballard (brilliantly brought to life in this book) pursues truth.

đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– Why did it take me so long to pick up the second book in this series?! I LOVED THIS ONE!!! Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Pages = 496 . . “We may not always have the choice we would like. But we always have a choice.” . . Synopsis 📖: This epic historical fiction saga continues with more of a spotlight on Languoreth’s brother, Lailoken. Please pick up book one, The Lost Queen, before reading this second installment because it adds so much context and character backstory to make this such a rich, delightful read. I have yet to find an author that writes historical fiction like Pike does. Her writing is extremely vivid yet has a lilting, lyrical quality that permeates throughout the entire read. I was never bored and the storyline progresses at a perfect pace. . . . I don’t even know where to begin or what to say about this book because it was simply a joy to read. I was engrossed the entire time and found myself tearing through the pages but not wanting to finish the book because I didn’t want to stop reading about these characters. The history, the romance, the setting, the time and space expansiveness, warring factions - I couldn’t get enough! The extensive research done to write these books does not go unnoticed and I SO appreciate this author’s dedication and professionalism in her craft. Exquisite! I have a sneaking suspicion that this last book in the trilogy is going to break my heart and tear it out of my chest cavity

đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– Wow this one was IMPACTFUL. Heavy subject matter but incredibly important. A very insightful, intelligent, factual recounting work of fiction. Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Pages = Audiobook 🎧 . . “Do not mistake your humanity for weakness. It is, unfortunately, a common misconception.” . . Synopsis 📖: Told from three different women’s POV in three different time periods, women everywhere are fighting for their right to choose and their right to determine what motherhood looks like to them. Check trigger warnings on this book if you are someone that is wary of those things. Marshall writes such poignant, precise insight into what, I would argue, all women experience at one time in their life, if not constantly - LET ME CHOOSE WHAT I WANT FOR MY BODY! Her writing struck me hard and true. Such important reading material. . . . You’ll always find me on the side of the girlies. And this book is all about women supporting other women! đŸ™ŒđŸ» This book is devastating and heart wrenching and really makes you look inward to where your morals current stand. I always appreciate literature that makes your think critically, and I found myself audibly saying “damn right!” throughout a lot of this story. I am blown away that this is a debut novel - just incredible! How I grew up and conversations around topics like this is demonstrated in the book thoroughly so it was interesting to take a more detailed look at this and how to correct these actions moving forward. I highly recommend this author’s note at the end of the book shedding light on current legislation in Canada surrounding this human rights’ issue. Have you read this one? đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– Okaaaaay s’cute! đŸ§šđŸ» what a fun, short lil jaunt through this cutesy world! I really dislike when books don’t actually “end” and it’s just a push to get you to buy the next one, which is the only reason why I demerited this book. Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5 Pages = 352 . . “One doesn’t need magic if one knows enough stories.” . . Synopsis 📖: Just pick this one up - don’t even think about it and just read a fun little faery tale (see what I did there?)! I’m not giving you a synopsis - it’s for your own good. Fawcett’s writing was sweet and tactful and fun of whimsy. Very low stakes, banter-filled romance subplot, lovely atmosphere - it was a romp! . . . I really enjoyed the FMC and MMC, which is hard to find nowadays! Both were witty and spunky and full of heart so it was easy to get into the storyline quickly and with purpose. The creativity and whimsical nature of this book oozes on each page, and you’re easily caught up in the nature and adventure of it all. I enjoyed this book far more than I expected so that was a treat. Not much more to say on this because it’s just FUN. Plain and simple. Just a nice, easy read and I was able to turn my brain off while reading it, so I can always appreciate an author/book that does that for me! Have you read this one? Caraval trilĂłgiađŸŽȘ SzĂĄmomra ez a sorozat mindenkĂ©ppen mĂĄs volt, mint az eddig olvasott fantasy könyvek, sokkal könnyedebb az ĂĄltalam megszokottnĂĄl. đŸ«–đŸ“– BOOK REVIEW đŸ“–đŸ«– The Women by Kristin Hannah Rating = 🌟🌟 . . . The Women is by far the most melodramatic book I have recently read. I may be going rogue as this book is getting much attention and favorable reviews, but my humble opinion is – nope. It is too unrealistic, too long winded, and just too much. It is not a story that breaks new ground or offers any sort of consequential insights. It is a stretch at best and tries to cover war as a generality along with every possible human affliction. These reasons, along with the stories incongruous and preachy ending combined with an inane romantic reunion, is why I gave this book two stars.   . . Summary đŸ™ŒđŸ»: After her brother is killed in Vietnam, main character Frankie McGrath joins the Army Nurse Corps and is shipped overseas to serve as a combat nurse. The first half of the book is set in gore-drenched hospital wards filled with one-dimensional characters and repeated melodrama. Upon returning home, Frankie spends years running from her trauma. She experiences every single possible human affliction as a result of society and her own choices.   - The Mother đŸ€ . . . #thewomen #kristinhannah #dailybook #readmorebooks #motherdaughter #bookstagram #books #igreaders #bookfeature #bookstagrammer #reading #readingtime #readersofinstagram #literature #bookworm #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookfeaturepage #bookaddicted #bookstagrammer #tealifestyle #bookofthemonth #igbooks #explorepage #igbookstagram #dailybookpic #dailybookfeature #newyorktimesbestseller #preownedbooks #readingmorebooks

đŸ«–đŸ“– BOOK REVIEW đŸ“–đŸ«– First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟 . . . First Lie Wins is a cloak-and-dagger style, mystery-thriller. I enjoyed its female-focus and dramatic plotting. The middle portion is a bit much with countless characters to follow, and many clandestine assignments and coded messages that jump back and forth between past and present. Overall, as far as thrillers go, First Lie Wins is a good read that explores the themes of identity and redemption. Best of all, it has some great twists. . . Summary 📖: First Lie Wins protagonist is Evie Porter. Evie is a con artist hired by a mysterious employer by the name of Mr. Smith. Her latest “mark” is a handsome businessman named Ryan. Although Evie has experienced many false lives, she sinks deeply into this one, and the job slowly starts to spiral out of her control. As Evie fights to complete the job without ruining her alias, she finds herself pulled into a series of events that threaten to expose her true identity and unmask the truth about her mysterious employer. đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– Nora Ephron’s sister writes a heart wrenching tale of her husband, and ultimately then herself, navigating life with illness and death. Rating = 🌟🌟🌟.5 Pages = 304 . . “We don’t discuss death. Not that we avoid it. It’s just that here, we’re preoccupied with life.” . . Synopsis 📖: I went in blind to this one based on a friend’s recommendation, and I would recommend the same if you pick this one up! Ephron’s writing is full of feeling and grit. Her strength and resiliency shows even in her darkest times. Yet, this book didn’t capture my attention as much as I hoped it would. . . . This book is a rollercoaster of emotion and doesn’t leave the happiest taste in your mouth. The suffering and despair was quite difficult to stomach, and I thought the author was bit heavy handed with the name dropping throughout. However, I loved NYC as the setting and touchpoint at each stage of this book. I didn’t love this memoir but I didn’t dislike it enough that I have a lot of thoughts on it, you know what I mean? đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– Pitched to me as “Rebecca”-esk, I needed my hands on this immediately. Now that I have, I just want to read du Maurier instead! Rating = 🌟🌟🌟 Pages = 317 . . “Beautiful on the surface, but look a little closer and everything is decaying, rotting, falling apart.” . . Synopsis 📖: On a work project in a dilapidated English mansion, Frances is darkly obsessed with a strange couple also living in the mansion. The couple, Peter and Cara, pull Frances into their antics and all three eventually slip into crime. Yes, Fuller writes atmospherically but I did not find it vivid or intriguing enough to keep me engaged. The haunting and foreboding sense I was supposed to feel was not quite up to par in my sense. . . . If anything is compared to Rebecca, it better absolutely blow me away with its’ brilliance. This book was definitely not that. I thought the writing was good but not great, and sometimes the storytelling was confusing and too messy to follow. There was a plot point (I won’t spoil it for you) that I thought “FINALLY let’s get into it now!” but the author briefly touched it and then never returned to it. I did enjoy the timeline shifts but felt the payoff wasn’t fully executed there which left it feeling lackluster to me. It was sort of this perspective on loneliness and voyeristic tendencies, but it felt flat to me and I just wanted the depth and richness that is usually present in books like this. đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– This is my third Kristen Hannah read and I’m just not a fan. I cannot take the constant men hate and lack of personality from all her female characters. Rating = 🌟🌟.5 Pages = 464 . . “Courage is fear you ignore.” . . Synopsis 📖: A mother, Elsa, forces her children to stay in Texas during the Dust Bowl until one of her children is on the brink of death. She then leaves home at the literal worst possible time and the rest of the story is sort of a list of the grocery items they can afford with no money? After reading a few of her books, I can say that for me, Hannah’s writing lacks nuisance and creativity, and it makes me see her obvious deeply rooted hatred of men. She just writes men so poorly and with one dimension. . . . There are too many phenomenal historical fiction writers out there for me to have to read another one of Hannah’s books. I just can’t connect with any of her characters, male or female, and I find her writing incredibly drab and boring. The content and time period covered in this book should have been left to John Steinbeck’s East of Eden and then I didn’t have to waste my time reading this book. Reading is time that I value and treasure, and if an author repeatedly makes me think I wasted my time reading their book, I won’t pick up anything by that author again. The very structure of this book and book’s timeline was halting and uncoordinated. The POV switches were strange and lack cohesion. In my opinion, a POV shift should be done to bring about new perspective in a story, and in this instance there was absolutely zero exploration of character and plot with these sporadic POV changes. đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– What a cute modern rom-com! My bookclub friend recommended this and it was such an easy, fast read! Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟.25 Pages = Audiobook 🎧 . . “There’s something more final than forever. It’s never. Never is infinite.” . . Synopsis 📖: Two unlikely people meet in Minnesota and keep being drawn back together despite their many differences, but outside forces will do their best to tear them apart. Jimenez wrote such an easily digestible romance, and yes there were obvious points of “romance reasons” in this book, it was just a fun, light read during the work week. . . . I was eye rolling and a bit disgusted with the privilege that Alexis displays on countless interactions, but I guess that is the motivator throughout this one? Overall, I thought the love story was cutesy and mundane and maybe a bit tepid, but somehow still enjoyed the whole reading experience?! Could have been because I only listened when I was out doing yard work in the sun and it was glorious after these winter months! đŸ™ŒđŸ» I’m honestly so relieved to have enjoyed this modern romance story because I have not had any luck as of late with this genre! đŸ«–đŸ“– BOOK REVIEW đŸ“–đŸ«– Frenchman’s Creek by Daphne DuMaurier Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 . . . I am an absolute devotee to anything written by the master of gothic romance, Ms. Daphne du Maurier. In my opinion, she is one of the most gifted storytellers of all time. Best known for her hugely popular My Cousin Rachel, Jamaica Inn, and Rebecca, Du Maurier’s Frenchman’s Creek is the fourth novel I have read by her. It is, I dare say, a lost classic and proved as absorbing and beautifully written as Du Maurier’s other fine novels. . . Summary 📖: Frenchman’s Creek is an electrifying tale of suspense, scandal, and love on the high seas. It is haunted by a medieval mood and centered on a woman who is willing to risk it all to satisfy her craving for adventure and freedom.   Jaded by the numbing politeness of London in the late 1600s, Lady Dona St. Columb revolts against high society. She rides into the English countryside, guided only by her restlessness and her longing to escape. But when chance leads her to meet a French pirate, hidden within Cornwall’s shadowy forests, Dona discovers that her passions and thirst for adventure have never been more aroused. Together, they embark upon a quest rife with danger, secrets, and glory, one which bestows upon Dona the ultimate sacrifice. - The Mother đŸ€ . . . #frenchmanscreek #daphnedumaurier #dailybook #readmorebooks #motherdaughter #bookstagram #books #igreaders #bookfeature #bookstagrammer #reading #readingtime #readersofinstagram #literature #bookworm #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookfeaturepage #bookaddicted #bookstagrammer #tealifestyle #bookofthemonth #igbooks #explorepage #igbookstagram #dailybookpic #dailybookfeature #newyorktimesbestseller #preownedbooks #readingmorebooks

đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– O’Farrell has done it again, folks! Working through this amazing author’s backlist and loving each second of it! Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟.75 Pages = 383 . . “I don’t believe in fate. I don’t believe in cushioning your insecurities with a system of belief that tells you ‘Don’t worry. This may be your life but you’re not in control.” . . Synopsis 📖: You need to piece this story together yourself. Part of the intrigue to this story is working through each character’s POV and connecting these relationships throughout the book. You can see O’Farrell flexing her poetic prose signature in this debut book. I enjoyed the complexity she weaves, and the ambiguous ending really worked for me! . . . O’Farrell has a presence with her writing and this book is no exception. I am immediately involved in the story and can’t wait to pick it back up again, which is hard to do with a story that isn’t a thriller! This story was full of heart and grief and tension and loss, and it all worked in perfect unison. The POV abrupt shifts confused me at first but I quickly adjusted and thought it worked well with the kind of story that was being told. Do you read manga and which ones would you recommend? . . Tbh, I haven’t been the biggest reader of manga like ever. We own A LOT of manga in my house though because my family has always been readers of manga. I personally only have a couple, like less than ten lol. So I’d really love some romance manga recs if you have any for me or something you really think I’d enjoy! I’ve been reading My Happy Marriage so far and oh my gosh, the way this has made me feel ALL the range of emotions. I kinda knew it would too but oh my god lol, I strongly dislike her step-family let’s just say that. And the dad too, I don’t care for him either. And maybe her “friend” too. Ok, that’s all for now. #instadaily # #picoftheday #dailybook #bookpic #dailybookpic #reading #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #mariapourchet

đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– This was
interesting? Is that the right word lol? I found this story to be overly complicated for what felt like “plot reasons” and not too much beyond that. Rating = 🌟🌟 Pages = Audiobook 🎧 . . “The human memory is such a cruel, frustrating thing, the way it just discards things without asking permission, precious things.” . . Synopsis 📖: The Bird family is complicated to say the least - four odd and disturbed children, a mother who hoards, a father who inflicts trauma under the guise of being innocent. The story mainly revolves around each child’s experience with their mother’s hoarding and growing up in that environment. I’ve known Jewell to be a murder-mystery writer but this one was obviously not that. The plot line and characters were not as captivating as I would have liked them to be. . . . The forgiveness in this book was
disturbing to me. The amount of toxic, unbearable acts these characters inflict upon each other to then somewhat immediately forgive-and-forget is shocking. All of the children stem from an unstable mother and a derelict father, and thus cannot cope as functioning, happy adults who repeat this cycle with everyone around them. Instead of getting therapy and taking responsibility for their actions, they inflict wounds and mistrusts and abandonments onto each other until the last 15% of the book where they say “never mind it’s all fine”. Despite all my reservations about this book, I actually found it quite dull and a bit boring. I would have chosen a completely different ending to this book if I could! Have you read this one? Do you read anthologies and do have any favorite ones you recommend? . . I actually really enjoy reading anthologies, I think it’s great to see how each author does their piece in an anthology! Last month, I had a tour for Relit on TikTok and I wanted to share about it here as well. I think it’s a great diverse read and I personally loved seeing Latinx characters taking center stage in each story! There’s so many great stories in the anthology and you really can’t go wrong with any of them but my absolute favorite was Juna & The Fox Boy! Let me know if y’all have read this one! I’d also love to hear about your favorite anthologies! đŸ„° . . Happy Friday, y’all! I hope everyone has a lovely start to March! đŸ«–đŸ“– BOOK REVIEW đŸ“–đŸ«– The Speed of Falling Objects by Nan Fisher Rating = 🌟🌟🌟.5 . . . If you are a fan of coming-of-age survival stories, then you should consider The Speed of Falling Objects. It’s a story that follows protagonist Danny Warren and her journey toward discovering her true self that she hid away long ago.   However, this novel is not to be mistaken for fine literature. It focuses a lot on terrifying jungle scenarios and survival (albeit far-fetched in numerous circumstances), so character and relationship development often fall by the wayside. . . Summary 📖: Seventeen-year-old Danny Warren keeps her head down, studies hard, and works to fulfill everyone else’s needs. She is certain her mom’s bitterness and her TV star father’s absence are her fault.   When her father asks her to join him on the film of the next episode of his popular survivalist show, Danny is determined to prove she is not the disappointment he left behind. Everything changes when their small plane crashes in the Amazon, killing some on board and creating a treacherous physical, mental, and emotional journey for Danny and the survivors. - The Mother đŸ€ . . . #thespeedoffallingobjects #dailybook #readmorebooks #motherdaughter #bookstagram #books #igreaders #bookfeature #bookstagrammer #reading #readingtime #readersofinstagram #literature #bookworm #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookfeaturepage #bookaddicted #bookstagrammer #tealifestyle #bookofthemonth #igbooks #explorepage #igbookstagram #dailybookpic #dailybookfeature #newyorktimesbestseller #preownedbooks #readingmorebooks

đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– I’m really torn on how to rate this book because I did find the writing style intricate and foreboding, but the plot was elusive. Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Pages = 384 . . “Beauty, when you come face-to-face with it like Tad is right now, can be very like a collision. A kind of violence.” . . Synopsis 📖: Belle loses her beloved Mother (or was she?) and leaves Montreal to deal with her passing and her affairs. But while coping with this loss, she finds herself caught up in a skincare cult called Rouge. Awad’s writing is brilliant and so exquisitely clever. Her mixture of horror and fairytale, dark and light, exposure and hidden depths is always innovative. . . . I honestly thought that because Awad is such an accomplished and extremely educated individual that some of these plot points in the book just went over my head. The middle of the book felt flat and repetitive to me, but I LOVED the ending and how the beginning of this story kicked off. The Tom Cruise of it all? Could have done without it (IYKYK). The Snow White-esk haunting fairytale alongside a dark look into beauty, jealousy, envy, love, grief, and so much more made for an interesting reading experience. Our society’s fixation on the superficial and self-image/selfishness cut deep and I felt Awad did this in her unique, weird way. Have you read this one? đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– Where to even begin
I have so many thoughts and emotions (none of them good unfortunately) about this next installment in the SJM dynasty! SPOILERS BELOW ‌‌‌ And prepare for a rant! đŸ˜€ Rating = 🌟🌟 (potentially 🌟.5 ?) Pages = 848 . . “A world where people loved and valued books and learning so much that they were willing to die for them. Can you imagine what such a civilization was like?” . . Synopsis 📖: Even with the jaw-dropping ending of HOSAB, this book begins essentially at the same time point with significantly less emotion and tension. Bryce has one selfish goal in mind and will stop at nothing to get what is “hers”. SJM’s writing and plot hole riddled third book in this series was shockingly uninteresting and vastly underwhelming in my opinion. To be quite honest, I was immensely relieved that it was over and that I never have to read it again. . . . SPOILERS BELOW ‌‌‌ Bryce’s story arc was đŸ‘đŸ»messyđŸ‘đŸ» to say the absolute least, and Hunt was literally boring me to tears. The growth, expansion, and development is simply not there in this book, let alone this CC series. I won’t list all the plot holes in this book because there is not enough time and I don’t have the stamina to do it since my brain is mush after reading this. And the end “battle”
it felt like a joke! The Asterii
horrifically underwritten and one-dimensional. The tension and stakes were just not present, the plotting and overarching story was lackluster and unclear, the characters were unbelievably irritating and irrational - it was ROUGH to read this. This crossover made me lose faith in SJM and not want to continue reading her works if this is where she’s trending

#instadaily #picoftheday #booksofinstagram #dailybook #bookpic #dailybookpic #reading #bookstagram

Good morning everyone! Hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend and not too tired (like me) this Monday morning. Today I’m back to share ‘Dangerous Alliance’ by Jennieke Cohen, a regency romance that I picked up during the first lockdown way back when, probably starting my historical romance revolution. ‘Lady Victoria Aston has everything she could want: an older sister happily wed, the future of her family estate secure, and ample opportunity to while her time away in the fields around her home. But now Vicky must marry—or find herself and her family destitute. Armed only with the wisdom she has gained from her beloved novels by Jane Austen, she enters society’s treacherous season. Sadly, Miss Austen has little to say about Vicky’s exact circumstances: whether the roguish Mr. Carmichael is indeed a scoundrel, if her former best friend, Tom Sherborne, is out for her dowry or for her heart, or even how to fend off the attentions of the foppish Mr. Silby, he of the unfortunate fashion sensibility. Most unfortunately of all, Vicky’s books are silent on the topic of the mysterious accidents cropping up around her
ones that could prevent her from surviving until her wedding day.’ From what I remember - vibes more than anything - I really enjoyed this romance. It has a few different suitors as Vicky must navigate the whirls of society after everything goes horribly wrong with her elder sister’s marriage. It has the mysterious gentlemen, the childhood best friend and the honorary Mr Collins referencing Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ throughout. If you’re looking for a quick, regency romance with fun and a hint of mystery, then check it out. ⁉Do you enjoy historical romance? Let me know some of your favourites in the comments! đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– Dolly Alderton can do no wrong in my eyes - I will read a grocery list written by this woman! Yet another 5 star read for me by this author! Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Pages = 336 . . “You don’t let go once. That’s your first mistake. You say goodbye over a lifetime. You might not have thought about her for ten years, then you’ll hear a song or you’ll walk past somewhere you once went together - something will come to the surface that you’d totally forgotten about.” . . Synopsis 📖: Essentially a post mortem on Andy and Jen’s relationship from Andy’s POV. We know from page 1 that they have broken up but we follow Andy’s journey through loss and trying to rationalize Jen’s decision to breakup with him. Alderton’s writing always manages to make me laugh and strike unnervingly deep all in a short period of time. Her books are such a joy, and I always have a great time reading them! . . . Alderton wrote a man experiencing a devastating breakup with such accuracy and poignant insight that you honestly just have to marvel at her! She somehow manages to strike deep on emotions and relationship turmoil, whilst not woman hating nor shaming. This story and her writing is so refreshing! I loved how she rounded out the story with a surprisingly interlude into Jen’s POV and bracketing the story with lists of why these two should and shouldn’t be together. Nuisance of relationships is captured quite truthfully and laid bare in this story, and I am so happy to have read it! Have you read this one? đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– A true crime, incredibly detailed police procedural event recounting on the infamous Polly Klaas case. A must-read for any true crime aficionado. Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟.25 Pages = Audiobook 🎧 . . “You can’t grow a new heart. But when you have a big piece torn away, you can either fill it with anger and rage, or you can fill it with love. I just have to try and choose love.” - Eve Nichol, Polly’s Mother . . Synopsis 📖: In 1993, Polly was kidnapped from her own home during a sleepover with two friends while her mom was asleep in the house. One of the FBI’s largest manhunts ensues, and many of the following actions are still used today in abduction cases. Cross writes a very thorough account of not just the abduction itself but clearly has done a lot of research in recounting the police and FBIs courses of action in the aftermath. . . . Following along the trail of evidence in this famous case was captivating and horrifying. I was unaware of just how much this case and how it was handled has impacted the overall structure of policing cases like this. This author handled such sensitive, traumatic subject matter in a professional, rationale manner and it made me respect the writing more. The insight was extensive and felt it covered all of terrain it needed to. I found the balance of tension and resolution to be just right, and again, found the author handled the subject matter with the reverence that is required. Have you read this one? đŸ«–đŸ“– BOOK REVIEW đŸ“–đŸ«– Horses of Fire by A.D. Rhine Rating = 🌟🌟🌟🌟 . . . Horses of Fire is the first collaborative novel of authors Ashlee Cowles and Danielle Stinson, writing as A. D. Rhine. It is a Trojan War retelling set in the late Bronze Age through a feminist lens and centered on four women: Andromache the doting wife of Prince Hector; Helen the war prize of Prince Paris; Cassandra the Trojan priestess; and an imagined servant Rhea, a horse whisperer and war refugee. All in all, it is a well written character and plot study of a side of the famous Greek Mythology Trojan War that’s not really explored in great detail in other retellings. It will definitely make you rethink your love for the classic Greek heroes and kings that are thrust on you because of its one sidedness. . . . The writing is good, the characters are well developed and the historical and archeological facts are mixed into the plot beautifully. The reason I gave it 4.0 stars is because it dragged slightly and some areas became a bit repetitive and tiresome. Also, the ending is surprising and abrupt. However, the sequel to be released this June will hopefully wrap up any loose threads. - The Mother đŸ€ . . . #horsesoffire #adrhine #dailybook #readmorebooks #motherdaughter #bookstagram #books #igreaders #bookfeature #bookstagrammer #reading #readingtime #readersofinstagram #literature #bookworm #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookfeaturepage #bookaddicted #bookstagrammer #tealifestyle #bookofthemonth #igbooks #explorepage #igbookstagram #dailybookpic #dailybookfeature #newyorktimesbestseller #preownedbooks #readingmorebooks

Happy Valentine's day💌 I read Flipped years ago and watched the movie numerous times. It will always remain one of my comfort books and movies. "Flipped" is that heart-tugging, nostalgia-filled trip down first crush lane with Juli Baker and Bryce Loski telling us how it's all going down from their sides of the fence. Wendelin Van Draanen has this way of making you laugh, sigh, and maybe even tear up a bit as these two figure out life, love, and everything in between. It's all about the messy, beautiful ride of growing up and getting those "aha" moments about people and the world. Seriously, "Flipped" is a vibe – it's about seeing the real person behind your first crush and all the feels that come with it. I have always felt like this book got it right about early teenage love with the right amount of childish innocence, never ever being cringe and at the same time rightfully catching all the feels. So remembering this gem on the day of love 💕💕 #valentinesday #flipped #wendelinvandraanen #comingofage #teenaglove #bookstagram #dailybookpic

Is there a book you can’t stop thinking about since you read it? . . I feel like once a book becomes one of my favorites, I’m always thinking about it. Iron Widow is one of those books that was just so insanely good and it’s living rent free in my mind forever now. I think about what’s next in the story and with the characters like all the time. Sometimes I even do this thing where I flip through my favorite books just taking in some of my favorite lines and scenes lol or if I have it on kindle I go and re-read through my highlights. I don’t know what it is but I love remembering how these books made me feel! đŸ„° . . Happy Monday, friends! I hope you all had a good weekend! Mine was really good, we did some celebrating for my mom’s birthday and watched the game of course! I love spending quality time with my family tbh, we always have fun! ❀ #bookstagram #ironwidow #readersfavorite #bookblog #bookcommunity #ilovethisbook #favoritebook #fantasyreader #openbook #dailybookpic #readersgonnaread #readingisfun #letstalkbooks #bibliophile #readallday #booksmakemehappy #abookisalwaysagoodidea #wellread #fivestarread #myfavoritebook #bookloversworld #igreads #readersofinsta #ilovereading #bookishlifestyle #bookblogger

đŸ«–đŸ“–BOOK REVIEWđŸ“–đŸ«– For me, this book had the bones to be a great one. And can we take a second to appreciate this amazing cover art?! Rating = 🌟🌟🌟 Pages = Audiobook 🎧 . . “Even a prison becomes comforting if it’s the only thing you’ve known.” . . Synopsis 📖: Everyone knows the nursery rhyme about Leonora Hope murdering her family, but when home health aide,Kit, gets assigned to Leonora as care-taker, she starts to wonder if the nursery rhyme is truly gossip or if there is some truth to it
After reading a few of Sager’s works, I know that he is known for twists at the end of the book in basically a five page span, and this book is no different! I felt the writing was perfectly adequate. . . . I loved the premise of this book more than I liked the actual book itself. The dark, gothic atmosphere was a huge miss for me and didn’t get enough content in that category as well as felt that the responsibility of filling in the plot holes and gaps lay solely with the reader. I didn’t find the author had a firm grasp on the environment. The twists were too twisty for my taste
is that even a correct way to explain that?! đŸ€·đŸŒâ€â™€ïž I enjoy when there is nuisance to the plot twists and character arcs, and unfortunately this book just simply did not have that. I liked Kit, the main character, but did not find the character of Leonora likable. Have you read this one?
