This book was just… so good. And the ending has left me hurting and speechless. I am in desperate need of more. I need answers asap! QoSS is a desert fantasy full of political intrigue, curses, grief, found family, and characters you’ll love to root for! I read Daughter of the Desert (the prequel novella to Queen of Shifting Sands) and instantly fell in love with the world and main character. I had high expectations for QoSS and it did not disappoint. The character dynamics we get are messy and beautiful and just everything that I was hoping for. Lystra and Elerek are two broken people just trying to do their best for their kingdom. I loved every part of this book. The world itself, the characters, the cardants, and the curse. And like I said the ending has left me desperate for answers. I’m sorry I’ve been fairly MIA over the last year or so—it was a tough one, and I had a lot of emotions to deal with that have built up over the last 3 or so years. Do you like prequel short stories? 🤔 Ya'll Daughter of the Desert by @mrs.carter_theauthor is an awesome read! 😁 Desert horse race vibes -- but make it fantasy: ceatures called cardants, epic prose and worldbuilding, a lil romance, a protagonist who has big dreams and ambition, racing action, a satisfying conclusion, and a lovely set up for Queen of Shifting Sands which releases via @whimsicalillustration this year. 🥳 I found myself tearing up because while Lystra's dreams and mine are so different, I too feel so strongly about a future I think I need to have right now and I could relate to her feelings of disappointment and want. ❤️ This quote is my fave: “This moment is ours. We shan’t despise it because it is small. It is a beginning.” It was a reminder for me too, that it is okay if my dreams take longer. Mine was THE STARDUST THIEF by @chelsabdullah 😍 a retelling of stories from 1,001 Nights, filled with djinn and magic and adventure, THE STARDUST THIEF is about a magical artifacts dealer, her jinn bodyguard, a storyteller prince, and a deadly thief, forced together to find a dangerous artifact for a dangerous sultan. I adored everything about it. THE STARDUST THIEF is adult fantasy, but thankfully there is no spice (no kissing, even). The characters are lovable and interesting. The world was fascinating. And I have so many questions waiting to be answered in book two, THE ASHFIRE KING! Have you read this one? What did you think? You can see what the author describes and each character is distinct. I love the cardants (animal on the cover), and getting to know how they’re valued by different people. I was born and raised in a town in the most arid desert in the world where nothing really grows, so seeing fruit trees, rain and green landscapes still amazes me to this day, I know it’s silly but that’s how it is for me 😊. It recently occurred to me that I’ve never done an introduction or ‘about me’ post. Since there are some newbies here, I thought I’d share 10 things about me (in no particular order!)⠀ ⠀ 1.) I am a daughter of the desert. My roots are incredibly important to me and I enjoy genealogy/family history research. In fact, the dress I am wearing in this photo was made in the 1950s by my great-great aunt! 🌵 2.) My favorite food is... carbs. ⠀ 3.) I have traveled to 25 countries.⠀ 4.) I love tea ☕️⠀ 5.) I’m married to the most amazing guy in the world.⠀ 6.) I’m obsessed with my dog, Charlie 🐾⠀ 7.) I love singing, even though I *can’t* sing. 😳 8.) Ya girl is Meryl Streep’s biggest fan!⠀ 9.) My favorite movie is The Sound of Music.⠀ 10.) In many ways I’m pretty reserved, but I’m also a bit of an adrenaline junkie. You’d never know by looking at me. 🤘🏼⠀ ⠀ More to come later! 🌸 Lotus Mudra 🌸 . 👌🏻Mudras, which are symbolic gestures, are thought to affect the flow of prana in the body. As I often perceive the heart energy in Marrakech to be very heavy (lots of grief, loneliness, sadness, distrust and fear floating around here), I have found myself working a lot with my heart opening tools. The Lotus mudra is one of them, representing purity and unblocking the heart chakra. . 🎼I have also been singing Gayatri mantra for extended periods of time daily. This helps me cultivate more the loving kindness, compassion and generosity of my heart by calling it in from the universal source. By using these tools combined, I am able to connect with people on a more joyful heart-based frequency with a meditative mind focused in bringing relief to myself and those around me. #lokahsamastahsukhinobhavantu

When I first set foot on this property, I felt like I had found the coolest sustainable desert oasis ever. Now, I basically fill it up with friends each month to practice yoga, eat a delicious organic, locally sourced dinner and enjoy the views. Our last one on Friday was pure bliss and magic. Coastline terrain of Morocco. This country is made up of many, many layers. Given the name “The Kingdom of a Thousand Kingdoms” by the French, Morocco was once home to a multitude of tribal (some matriarchal) kingdoms. Now unified under one kingdom, the diversity can be experienced through each contrasting locale, however the landscape offers just as much if not more variety than the people. From coastline to mountains to desert and palm groves, each day and each turn of a corner bring something fresh for the soul.

It’s going to be a sun drenched spring. Mostly. 🌺 The climate of Marrakech is very similar to LA with a dash of Sydney unpredictability. Generally, it has been hot and dry but on some days, after a good snow on the Atlas or, I suppose, whenever the Atlantic feels moody, we get an influx of cloudy, rainy days. The perfect combination for the blossoming of beautiful bougainvillea and ravishing roses. And so, I gleefully immerse myself in the wild radiance of spring in the red city of Marrakech. 🌹
