Two movies I just enjoyed watching. 'Warning Sign' I have seen before years ago and I felt when I first watched it that Danny Boyle got some ideas for '28 Days Later' that came out 17 years later with the whole rage virus leaked in a lab thing. 'Impulse (1984)' feels like a bigger budget version of George A. Oh my. What to say. I avoided this as Stephen King adaptations are not always great and for some reason, I was a bit over Frank Darabont. Well, past me was an idiot. Happy 35th anniversary to The Blob, the terrifyingly fun remake to the 1958 classic sci-fi movie about a acidic, gelatinous organism that crashes down to a small town and begins to devours and dissolves anything in its path as it grows. Much like with '78's Invasion of the Body-Snatchers and '86's The Fly, The Blob was another example of a horror remake done right as it executes it's premise with visceral thrills, horrific possibilities and creative special effect gone into creating the titular creature and I even love that it flip the script on it's origin and wasn't afraid to push limits such as a child becoming a victim of the Blob and that scene in the sewer was equal parts spectacular because of the scope of horrifying due to what I've mentioned above. Well these kids certainly saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus!! And for little Harry, that scarred him for life!! Now that he’s all grown up and working at a toy factory, he finally loses it and takes Christmas into his own hands. The more I watched this the more I think I’ve seen it before. I don’t ever recall watching this but some things just stood out to me. Honestly, I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. The whole season i was wondering what's going to happen next, Shane was getting to carried away with him, Lori and Carl. Because he thinks that Rick can't protect them and he is going to lead everyone to die. Glenn is still my favorite character and he has he's new girlfriend Maggie which really cool so I'm excited to see how they end out. Have you ever wondered what would a Christmas version of Taxi Driver would like? Well, here’s your answer. Christmas Evil, also known as You Better Watch Out, is a rather bizarre horror film. Bizarre, in that it really isn’t a slasher film, as it was marketed as in terms of the posters and trailer, but more of a character study. Written and Directed by Lewis Jackson, this film from 1980 follows the character of Harry, a lonely man who suffered from a rather strange traumatic event as a child. He works at a toy factory, where the workers make fun of him and backstabbed him. Eventually, he loses it, and becomes a homicidal Saint Nicholas, giving gifts to children and murdering those who wronged him. I watched this film on November 11, and it is a great film. The performance from Brandon Maggart (who also happens to be the father of Fiona Apple), as Harry, is pretty great. He captures the character perfectly, as a lonely man obsessed with Santa Claus and wanting to become the jolly patron of the holiday. Jeffery DeMunn also gives a great performance as Harry’s brother, Philip. Ricardo Aronovich’s cinematography is fantastic, which considering he had done cinematography for directors such as Louis Malle and Costa-Gavras, should be expected. Lewis Jackson’s direction and script is great, giving this film it’s distinctive and original take on the slasher genre. One of, if not, the most surprising thing about this film, is the ending. This film has a finale that comes completely out of nowhere, and is quite bizarre. The only issue I have with this film is that there are a couple of scenes that feel like they don’t need to be in the film, and come off as filter, along with it dragging a little bit at times, which prevents it from earning a full five stars. Christmas Evil is a really good psychological “slasher” film, that happens to take a different approach to the genre, and is not only the best killer Santa film, but one of the best horror films of that decade. Discovering a new Christmas themed horror/thriller is always a delight, even if it's not that good. 'Body' is a simple and very predictable thriller that almost feels like an episode of 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' and not a good episode!. In it's defence the first half is good and relatable (overindulgence of food during the festive period,🙄story of my life!) but by the second and final act I was bored stupid👎. When I first saw 'Christmas Evil' a year ago I didn't think much of it but after a third viewing it's really grown on me. For one thing it's completely mad! but it's tone is not as dark as 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' if anything inbetween it's low budget horror is this Spielberg type fantasy.
