No CHANGE, means no RESULT. If you are unhappy with WHAT you are doing, WHERE you are going or HOW you are going in any or multiple aspect as of life.. you need to make changes, right? You don’t expect to get a promotion or pay rise at work, by rocking up late and not getting the job done? NO You don’t expect to buy a house without saving money & blowing it on unnecessary things? NO It’s the same with body composition goals… You can’t expect to lose weight if you are not willing to change or alter your lifestyle habits and behaviours AT ALL.. - going out drinking cocktails multiple times per week and having elaborate 3 coarse lunches and dinners with friends and family frequently.. - not being honest with your intake - not getting in movement - choosing to not go to the gym because you “aren’t motivated”… I’m not saying it’s easy.. Have you ever been leading a team and planning great change and innovation and suddenly started to worry whether the change would be lasting? Would it change the culture that existed? Would it have a long lasting effect on outcomes? When I began creating my framework to help communities work across sectors to improve mental health and wellbeing outcomes I felt exactly that! I was tired of seeing people make amazing change happen, but the change would only last a few years or a short time. Then the process for improvement would begin all over again a few years later or wouldn’t gain traction at all. We have to make our initiatives sustainable so they can create long term change. This has never been more important than in the mental health and wellbeing space. We need to consider all that is going on in our local community and create well-thought out, intentional plans for improvement utilising the strengths that already exist in our local area. As a non-profit leader, I've observed a discrepancy in our approach to addressing deep-seated social issues. Many of the challenges we tackle have been centuries in the making, stemming from long-term investment in certain areas and significant disinvestment in others. These issues are complex and, demand solutions that are just as enduring. Yet, often, the remedies proposed and implemented are short-term, lacking the sustained commitment that true change demands. Consider how we approach investments in the stock market. There, we're encouraged to have a mix of investment strategies, focusing on the right investment strategies to yield the best possible returns over time. We understand that patience and persistence pay off. Why then do we not apply the same long-term focus to our non-profit initiatives? Just as financial investments compound over time, so too will the impact of strategic, long-term investments in social change. It's time to rethink our approach, to shift from quick fixes to enduring commitments that acknowledge the complexity of the issues at hand and the time it takes to address them effectively. As humans, we are pretty awful at eyeballing our calorie intake. A lot of the time, when people say that they barely eat, they are referring to the overall volume of the foods they are eating. It’s true– having a drink and a croissant for breakfast doesn’t seem like much! But we have to remember that not all foods are made equal– some are more calorie-dense, some are more nutrient dense, and some are more filling. You may be surprised how things can add up throughout the day • A handful of nuts  • A hearty salad from a restaurant • A fancy coffee drink • A bowl of ramen • a few chicken wings If you aren’t seeing progress with fat loss, it’s because you haven’t successfully achieved a calorie deficit for a long enough period of time. There are countless reasons why that may be. Fat loss is simple, but it’s not easy. ❌ A good starting point is to take 2 weeks to track EVERYTHING you are consuming– meals, snacks, drinks, etc. and see where your average caloire intake is sitting.  By doing that, you’ll have a much better idea of how much you are eating, the calorie density of the foods you are eating, your macro breakdown and so on. From there you can make changes to help ensure you are in a calorie deficit and eating for your goals! Life can change in an instant. 16yrs ago, my younger brother Jaimen was involved in a horrific motorbike accident that left him paralysed from the neck down, a tetraplegic with only the use of his bicep muscles. It was a devastating blow that shattered our family, and no amount of money could undo the damage. Last week, we relived that nightmare when Jaimen's 200kg wheelchair rolled on top of him, breaking his neck for the second time. When a 17yr old that you love dearly loses the use of their body and it appears that their dreams are stripped from them, it changes your view on life as well. Jaimen and I have always been incredibly close. Although I was 20 when the initial accident happened, it drastically changed how I valued and treated my own body. I realised that my 20-year-old self had taken my physical abilities for granted, feeding it unhealthy foods, neglecting exercise, and indulging in excessive stress and alcohol. Jaimen's accident became a wake-up call. For years, I would cry while exercising, overwhelmed by the sadness that he couldn't. I felt guilty whenever I jumped out of bed in the morning or walked along the beach, feeling the sand between my toes, knowing he might never experience those simple pleasures again. Our family learned to live for Jaimen, maximising our own abilities to compensate for what he had lost. It became my personal mission to cherish each day and make the most of my healthy body. Witnessing Jaimen's trauma resurface at the exact location of his initial accident was heart-wrenching. It triggered a flood of emotions – tears, stress, and a sense of detachment. Yet, Jaimen's mental strength was incredible. He breathed through intense pain, reminding himself of the resilience that had carried him through before. Just like that Harlin is 1. We survived the year long roller coaster! It's been a massive year as a mother, business owner and coach. 🌿The transition from 3 to 4 kids was substantial and kind of shocked me... 🌿Working full time running a business and a team, it never stops 🌿Having more clients than I have ever had before 🌿Managing an app development team, coaches and virtual assistants 🌿Having a husband who's work is all over the place, night shift and away rosters 🌿Fighting the keep the supplement side of our business was draining 🌿Many emergency trips with split heads, broken bones and surgeries for the kids 🌿Recovery from a double caesarean, back pain treatment and a hernia operation for myself... All of these challenges have required me to grow and expand as an individual to cope with it all. It has def been a wild 12 months. Harlin has been the ray of sunshine that I have been blessed to wake up to every single day. Life is hectic as a mother and every woman I talk to is in the same boat. Sure, we often associate reactivity with aggressive behaviours like lunging and barking towards other dogs or people. But let's take a step back. Isn't a tail wag a reaction? Isn't a play bow an invitation for fun? Every action triggers a reaction, yet we don't label a friendly, outgoing dog as 'reactive.' For effective training and behaviour intervention, simply labeling a dog as 'reactive' isn't enough. We need to delve deeper into what's driving these reactions—the underlying emotions. Is it only Weds?! Feels like a busy week! 2 x spin, 1 x gym hiit, 1 x core, 1 x strength workout and a 5km walk done since Monday! Phew! 🥵 I felt a bit gross after the weekend tbh… I definitely over-indulged on Sunday, so Monday was just a case of getting straight back to it. #crackon 👊🏼 If you have a weight loss goal and you have a day or so where you aren’t ‘ticking the boxes’, that’s fine in the grand scheme of things, AS LONG AS you return to your ‘new normal’ (tracking, steps, calories, sleep, water) ASAP! 🫵🏼 Don’t continue the cycle of eating rubbish / not tracking and collapse into the ‘f*ck it bucket’… 🤪 Just make sure you get back to the healthy habits and behaviours straight away and all will be well. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 I used to struggle with being in a constant cycle of yo-yo dieting, either ‘on plan’ or completely ‘off plan’. I couldn’t enjoy having one meal out without giving up for the rest of the week. If I hadn’t made it to the gym by Wednesday, I wouldn’t go at all that week. I have no idea the power of taking small actions had on creating the lifestyle that I wanted. I wish I had known the benefits of aiming for 1% improvement each day. Change doesn’t have to be dramatic for it to be transformative. If the ‘all or nothing’ mindset is something you struggle with, please let me reassure you that it doesn’t have to be this way. What is in your life stopping you from making this healthy change? REMOVE it or set boundaries around it. ✨ Small changes lead to big results ✨ When you are on a journey to change your lifestyle or get into fitness or whatever it is. Small changes that you make add up over time and lead to big results. If you want long term change you have to show up each day making changes and doing things you haven’t done before. It doesn’t have to be complicated.. - doing more steps than you normally would (a step goal helps) - aiming for 5 fruit and veg a day - setting yourself a bedtime - moving your body in a way that feels good - eating less chocolate than normal Whatever it is, make a conscious effort to make small changes and the results will come! We love love love loooove the idea that we control everything with our minds. Don’t like it, change your “mindset”. This roots to a philosophical concept from the 1700s. And deeply omits the human experience, which includes our body. It also omits the pervasive capitalist influence of huge companies manipulating you for profit. No program that relies only on tools of the mind can ever be successful to change your body long term. If you get no biological reward, you will quit. Fatigue, hatred, anger, sadness, shame will all ALWAYS show up alongside your plans, programs, schedules. Work with them rather than banishing them.
