Forever, Interrupted Taylor Jenkins Reid 💔💍🕊️ This is the first TJR book I’ve read in a while. After binging the usual suspects a few years ago (Evelyn, Daisy, Malibu and then One True Loves and Maybe In Another Life) I’ve have a little break before continuing on with her backlist. Although overall I did really enjoy Forever, Interrupted (don’t get me wrong, I did) I have to say, it probably wasn’t my favourite of TJR’s. I did find it a bit emotionally heavy at times and personally I’m a little sceptical about the whole insta-love thing. BUT, I really liked the way the book was structured and particularly liked how the relationship between Elsie and Ben’s Mother Susan developed. On that, character development is big in this book, which I loved! (Although a debut, a definite tell tale sign of what was to come in the later books). And despite my scepticism at first, I genuinely was hooked on reading the book nonetheless. Review & thoughts: This book made me laugh, smile, and tear up. I relate so much to this book as I often wonder, “What could I have done? What could I have changed? Did I do the right thing?” It has a simple yet strong message, which is that no matter what steps you take in life, it will always lead you to the places you’re supposed to be. Also, it's important to remember that it's okay not to have everything figured out in your 20s. (I'm in my 20s and I struggle with this everyday haha)😅 I added slides of some of my favorite quotes throughout the book. One being, “What I’m getting at here is that I know there may be universes out there where I made different choices that led me somewhere else, led me to someone else.He looks at Gabby. “And my heart breaks for every single version of me that didn’t end up with you.” I bawled my eyes out. I rate this book a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️; perhaps my rating would have been different if the plot made more sense. (if/when you read the book you'll know what I mean by this) Overall, I truly enjoyed this book, and omg! Can we talk about Gabby? Genre: Contemporary Romance “After I Do” By: Taylor Jenkins Reid 📍 Book Setting: Los Angeles Review: I’ve been reading a lot of thrillers and YA lately, and it was just time for some #tjr (iykyk). While I didn’t love this one as much as her more popular novels, I still enjoyed the story. The Book is about the difficulties of marriage and how what works for one couple won’t necessarily be the solution for another. There is no right way to do marriage, and there is no right way to do anything. Every kind of life is valuable, and humans should make the choices that suit them best, even if it’s not the popular choice. The book addresses endings, new beginnings, and everything in between. As usual, TJR writes charming characters, thoroughly, and each one experiences growth through the plot- even the wise sage, Grandma, learns some things as the story progresses. This book has some funny moments that balance out the more somber topics and creates a lovely mood. DAISY JONES AND THE SIX // Taylor Jenkins Reid Oh boy. How do I love thee? This book hooked me in from the beginning, made me feel consumed by the very idea of it, and then left me feeling like a piece of my heart had been ripped out in the worst and the best way. That to me is what makes me love a book. This was my second TJR read, and in a similar vein to Evelyn Hugo but in an even bigger way, TJR tells such an incredible retrospective story about people in the spotlight and their relationships, in a way that makes the characters seem so remarkably real. They all felt so tangible and I really got a sense of who each of them was. I fell hard for Daisy and Billy — despite their downfalls — and absolutely adored Camila. But choosing a favourite character feels near impossible. If you haven’t read it, DAISY JONES is a story about an infamous 70s rock’n’roll band and the events that led to their controversial breakup in 1979, but it’s also a story about addiction, self-destruction, finding yourself, making music, and the rebellious act of existing as a headstrong woman. It’s also undeniably about love — pure love, volatile love, the ways we crave to be loved, trying to love ourselves — and maybe about figuring out if there is a right person and a wrong person to love, or simply the wrong time. I will be indisposed for the next few days while I’m buried deep in my first viewing of the series (which I am also already in love with) so I’ll see you all on the other side 😂

✨Book Appreciation Time✨ I thought I’d share with you a mere handful of my ABSOLUTE fave 5 star reads from this year so far. So without further ado here they are: 📚 The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman - this is the 3rd book in The Thursday Murder Club series and honestly every book has made me laugh so much. The humour is so pure and the innocence of humanity was so well presented. Malibu Rising by tjenkinsreid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 Taylor Jenkins Reid does it again!! She is one of my favorite authors and has maintained that status with this book. What I loved most was the dual storyline and the depth of the character development in Malibu Rising. TJR writes characters in a way that makes them feel so real, and the complex relationships in this book were incredibly well done. I honestly don’t think I would change a single thing. As I was reading my heart would break then get put back together only to break again. I previously read TJR’s book Carrie Soto is Back (and LOVED it) and highly recommend reading that first…because she makes an appearance in this one! And while you could read this first and be totally fine, I feel like the fact that I already knew Carrie’s character on such a deep level made her showing up in this book that much more fun. TJR wove these two books together so gracefully. While Carrie is there, Malibu Rising is primarily about the Riva siblings and their tumultuous relationships with each of their parents. There’s also a LOT of adultery. Holy moly, this book can have you almost convinced monogamy doesn’t exist. I will admit books with adultery can be a reason I DNF but in this case it was done in a way that didn’t enrage me - it’s just the magic of TJR’s storytelling. She can do no wrong, really. Such a great read. Make sure this is on your TBR 🎉

But this facade begins crumbling when Carrie finds love letters hidden in her husband’s briefcase that appear to reveal an illicit affair. Desperate for answers, she begins a pen pal relationship with the husband of the woman her husband is having an affair with. They form a unique and special bond that helps Carrie navigate the heartbreak of her deteriorating marriage. This was absolutely everything I want in a novella/short story: intriguing plot with resolution, an unexpected twist, and a fun/unique format, plus it had TJR’s signature ties to other books in her universe. I can’t recommend this novella enough! I devoured it in an hour and simply wish there was more. The end was perfect. Book review 📕 🎾 TJR is by far one of my all time fave authors. #daisyjonesandthesix #thesevenhusbandsofevelynhugo #maliburising all firm faves of mine. She has a way of writing where I become so so invested I absolutely devour her novels. Now, I’ve seen a lot about this one. Namely the amount of tennis which is involved. And yes, there is a lot of tennis chat. But myyyy goodness how well written. The tension, the drama, I was on edge! Being a Londoner, Wimbledon has been part of my upbringing (strawberries and cream anyone?) so I have to say I absolutely loved it! It’s so so clever how TJR took a character who is glazed over in a previous novel and made her into a whole person. In awe of the power of her words. I loved Carrie, Javier, Bowe & the whole gang. My most read author so far this year is Taylor Jenkins Read. Found her books engrossing, fun, easy and quick to read. Definitely not high literature like my reading friend @sararisleyart described it when we discussed TJRs books but also not a complete waste of one’s time which unfortunately some books can be. Recommend as a palate cleanser in between heavy reads or during a reading slump or a holiday or a quick pick me up. Only criticism is the lack of diversity in her books and the constant reference to bone thin straight flat bottomed tall blond women as being the epitome of beauty and admiration of all the men kind of put me off a bit. Found it a tad bit annoying because it goes back to the times when curvy women were not considered beautiful in main stream media and as a curvy black woman who comes from a world where ‘beauty is measured by the pound’ ( #wahala by Nikki May 😜 ) I would have loved some of the characters to look a bit like me. But that’s me being extra picky!!! Not books I’ll be reading again but still don’t regret reading them. Daisy Jones and the Six - Loved the structure, written in the form of a documentary was unique and different. Story though dragged on a bit in the middle. Malibu Rising - Least favourite. Structured in 2 parts. 1st part was very interesting. 2nd part not so much and will make more sense as a movie than a book in my opinion. Seven Hisbands of Evelyn Hugo - An absorbing read and interesting plot twist. 💕 Book Review 💕 This book continues proving what an amazing and versatile writer Taylor Jenkins Reid is. Her books never cease to amaze me, especially since they are all so different. Emma Blair marries her teen crush, Jesse, and has an amazing love story with him. Before their first anniversary, Jesse goes abroad for work, and his helicopter goes missing. Jesse is never found and Emma has no other option besides presuming that he is dead and trying her best to move on with life. Years later she bumps into her high school friend, Sam and eventually falls in love with him and becomes engaged. Suddenly, she receives a call from Jesse and her life as she knows it comes crashing down. Emma must face the biggest decision of her life to find out who her proper one true love is. This was such a beautiful and heart-breaking read. Most times I didn't know who to route for and it really made me feel for Emma and the two men for being placed in such a horrible situation. Both characters were lovely in their own way and I probably would've been happy if she chose either of them.
