When I say I dropped everything else for this, I mean it. I had started three other books and then just decided to read Funny Story. I enjoyed it! It was a little slower than I think her last one but a very similar vibe as Happy Place. My top 3 Emily Henry books are now The People We Meet on Vacation, Happy Place, & Funny Story. Funny story is about Daphne and Miles who are thrown into a roommate situation when their respective partners fall in love with each other and leave Daphne and Miles for each other. Daphne doesn’t think she’ll stay in Michigan longer than the summer but maybe Miles will make her change her mind as the two pretend to be dating to make their ex’s jealous. I listened to The Fury and didn’t love the narrator so maybe that’s clouding my judgment of the book but overall this was pretty boring. I’ll give you the ending had a few more twists than I was expecting but other than that 🤷🏻♀️ I only kept with it because on 2x the speed it was only about a 4 hour audiobook. It’s about a man who narrates a murder that happens on a small, Greek island where a group of friends is staying for the weekend. Omg LJ was so right about Ready or Not! It was so cute. It’s mainly about Eve who finds herself pregnant after a one night stand but more importantly it’s about Eve and the different relationships in her life: with her baby, her baby’s father, her best friend, her best friend’s brother, her nurse, and her family. It’s seriously such a beautiful story of all these relationships. I listened on Spotify. This author has done a lot of Audible exclusive audiobooks too. Abby Jimenez can do no wrong. Just for the Summer is another PERFECT book by her. I cried multiple times reading it especially towards the end so be prepared. All her stories are so heartfelt and real I can’t handle them 😭 this one is about two people who are always the last person someone dates before they meet their soulmate that come together to try and break “the curse” by dating each other…just for the summer. Emma sees Justin’s post on Reddit and reaches out to commiserate with him about their curse. They hit it off and Emma, a travel nurse, convinces her friend to switch their next assignment Hawaii for Minnesota so she can meet Justin. Emma’s childhood is dark and traumatic and even if she doesn’t think he does, it affects her life and relationships in so many ways that Justin will have to learn to deal with and help Emma heal from. Jeg har virkelig været i tvivl om hvordan jeg skulle anmelde denne bog, da det ikke er noget jeg normalt ville læse... Men jeg læste den tilbage i folkeskolen i 2008, og den har levet rent-free i min hjerne lige siden 😬 Jeg tænker på den hver gang der bliver snakket om pensionsalder. Min far har altid joket med at de ville fjerne pensionen til sidst og "bare trække os med om bagved og nakkeskyde os". Jeg tænker på den hver gang jeg høre om nogen, som siger de ikke kan blive til noget, fordi de ikke har karakterne til det. Og specielt da de indførte minimums krav på erhvervsuddannelser. Bogen handler om en verden der er overbefolket. Hvor der ikke er plads til dumme, gamle, handicappede og uperfekte mennesker. De bliver alle hentet af de hvide mænd. Et korps der skiller sammen af med alle de ubrugelige mennesker. Vores hovedperson, Edwin, går i gymnasiet og vi følger ham mens han er i gang med at tage sine sidste eksamener. Er dit gennemsnit ikke højt nok, så bliver du hentet af de hvide mænd og alle lades som om du aldrig har eksisteret. Men Edwin er ved at få øjnene op. Han kan se det hele er forkert. Det er ikke okay at dræbe folk, bare fordi de laver små fejl. Men i en verden hvor venner og familie angiver hinanden, har man så overhovedet nogle at stole på? Det er en forholdsvis kort bog og hurtig at læse. If you’re a millennial and still reminiscing about “the good old days” this is the book for you. I would highly suggest the audiobook because it’s very conversational and I think it wouldn’t come off as well reading it (C quit it because she was reading it so I’ve encouraged her to try again but with the audio because LJ and I liked it!) I related to so much of this book! Shout out to American Girl doll Kristen! Boys probably won’t relate as well to this because it is definitely focused on the millennials girl experience. I applaud Kate’s honesty especially reflecting on her current life experience. I’ve been branching out of my usual genres recently and trying more romantasy books like Heartless Hunter. I listed to this one (I enjoy listening more to this genre I think) and it’s about hunting witches. The crimson moth is Gideon’s greatest prize he is trying to catch. The crimson moth has been smuggling out and rescuing witches in town while Gideon’s job is to hunt and kill them. His number one suspect is Rune who might also happen to be his crush and his brother’s best friend. Rezesion 💫 Was mögt ihr in Krimis? Humor? Gute Recherchen? Spannung? Oder von allem etwas? Dann kann ich euch den wohlfühl Krimi von Ellie Brauer ans Herz legen. Der Leser wird nach Israel entführt und lernt die schönen Seiten des Landes weiter kennen. Wir treffen alte Bekannte wieder, aber auch neue Charaktere treffen wir an. Die einen sind etwas anstrengender als die anderen. Während Olivia Pfeffer im ersten Band "Kein Urlaub ohne Mord" nach Israel geht um dort Urlaub zu machen, wird sie dieses Mal nach Israel geschickt, aber nicht um Urlaub zu machen, sondern um einen Fall zu lösen. Es gibt einen Leichnam, den es zu identifizieren gilt und es muss geklärt werden, ob es sich um Mord oder einen Unfall handelt, außerdem ist das Gepäck des Toten nicht auffindbar. Sie bekommt tatkräftige Unterstüzung von Mimi, der von Deutschland recherchiert, während sie in Israel mit Micki eng zusammen arbeitet. Aufgrund vielen und stressigen Arbeit muss Olivia innerhalb Israels reisen, was sehr detailliert beschrieben wird. Die Spurensuche ist schwieriger als gedacht. Beim Lesen merkt man, dass Olivia sich sehr viele Gedanken um die angespülte Leiche macht, z.B wenn es Mord war, warum musste die Person sterben?. Sie versucht regelrecht die vielen kleinen Puzzleteilchen an den richtigen Platz zu schieben, was ihr jedoch nicht ohne weiteres und vor allem nicht so schnell wie sie es gerne hätte gelingt. Ellie Brauer verzaubert den Leser mit ihrem Krimi so sehr. Israel wurde mir wieder ein Stückchen näher gebracht, das leckere Essen und allem voran: der Banana-Beach. Ich finde es wurde sehr gut recherchiert, worüber man so gar nicht nachgedacht hätte. Obwohl es ein Krimi ist, erzeugt er trotzdem eine richtige Wohlfühloase. Der Schreibstil ist flüssig, modern und mit einer Leichtigkeit geschrieben, dass die Seiten nur dahin flogen. From the DMs I’ve already gotten about this I can tell this is going to be a controversial opinion but this book was fine. I don’t really see how everyone is saying it’s their favorite book ever 🫣 it was unique, I’ll give you that. I knew it was about an octopus going in but not from the view of an octopus! The book switches between many points of view, one of which is an actual octopus, and it takes some time for all the characters to come together or for you to discover their connections so at the beginning it seemed kind of random to me. I listened to it on audio. Essentially a woman who cleans the aquarium where the octopus is kept, strike up an unusual friendship/connection and the octopus helps her uncover a lasting mystery in her life. I don’t want to give anything away so that’s all I’ll say. I’ve really enjoyed this Lovelight Farms series! I’ve done all audiobooks for them. This one was a fake/trial dating kind of trope. It focuses on Layla who is the baker at the farms and unlucky in dating. Her and Caleb decide to help each other be better at dating and obviously they fall in love with each other. Listen for the Lie was my March @bookofthemonth pick. I really liked it. It was a thriller with half of it a podcast format. It’s about a girl Lucy who is suspected of killing her best friend Savvy but she has no memory of what happened. Ben is a big true crime podcaster who has taken up the case on the newest season of his podcast and is intent on helping Lucy remember what happened whether it exonerates her or condemns her. I liked the podcast aspect and how the story played out. I am loving Rebecca Yarros (pre Fourth Wing) books! They remind me of Nicholas Sparks and Colleen Hoover as they’re fairly intense romances. All of them I believe center around a soldier of some kind (at least all of the ones I’ve read so far). I listened to Great and Precious Things with my audible subscription but it’s also (along with so many other ones) on kindle unlimited! This story was about Cam who comes home to help his brother take care of his dad who has Alzheimer’s. It’s been some years since Cam’s other brother died in combat next to Cam and he has to face that brother’s old girlfriend, Willow, who coincidentally is also the girl Cam has been in love with his whole life. I was so good about keeping up with my Book of the Month picks last year but fell off in December and decided to try the audiobook of The Storm We Made instead. It was about Japanese occupied Malaya during WWII a facet of the time period in historical fiction I have never read about before. I learned a lot from it and it was overall difficult to listen to the struggle the people of Malaya endured during this time. The story follows different members of a family who are all suffering with the war in their own ways from the youngest daughter to the parents. I will preface this with everything I know about vampires and werewolves is from Twilight so Bride was definitely a divination from the norm for me BUT I enjoyed it. It was a slooooooooow burn (like 250 pages for something to happen slow burn) but I wasn’t bored reading the first 250 pages, I was just ready for something to happen between Lowe and Misery. Broadly the book is about a vampyre who marries a were to create an alliance between species. There’s also a mystery wrapped up into this romance too and the ending could set up a second book making this a series. Next Year in Havana (and the next book in the series When We Left Cuba) is included with an Audible subscription so I listened to it. I enjoyed the story much more than I anticipated. It was interesting to learn so much about Cuba. I liked the duel timelines and storylines between Marisol in 2017 and her grandmother in 1958 Cuba. It was a historical fiction with multiple love stories and I am looking forward to listening to the next book. Reign is the fourth and final book in the American Royals series. It was a good wrap up to the series by the end but even though a lot happened, I felt like it was a little slow. I also didn’t remember a lot about the third book since it was so long between reading them but I’m not sure that really impacted much. The story picks up when Queen Beatrice wakes up from a coma after being in an accident. Wildfire is the second book in the Maple Hills series (the first is Icebreaker). It was good too! I listened on Spotify. I like how these have epilogues that show you years in the future but remember that the next book goes back to present day. You get a glimpse into the other characters that were introduced in the previous book but honestly you could read these as standalones be totally fine too. These are definitely 🌶️ so if that’s not your thing, skip these. But it’s a fun sports/college world. This book is about Aurora and Russ who have a one night stand on the last night before they leave college for the summer but then end up working at the same summer camp together where they’re not supposed to “fraternize” with anyone. The Pilot’s Daughter is on kindle unlimited and while it was a good, quick thriller (do not read if you’re anxious flyer) the best part of it for me was reading it while sitting next to my husband, the pilot, and asking him if everything in it was accurate. If you’re interested, a lot of it was accurate! The author said in the note at the end she had her dad a retired military and commercial pilot help her which was evident. There’s a lot of different characters that’s connect in this but the main story is about a homicide detective and a woman (the pilot’s daughter) who help save a plane from being hijacked on a flight from Seattle to Hawaii. Oh my god. You guys will NOT want to miss the upcoming Husband’s and Lovers by @authorbeatriz. It comes out June 25, 2024 and you will need it for your next beach vacation. In typical William’s fashion, this book is made up of multiple timelines and two points of view. You have Hannah in the 1950s and then present day and slightly past Mallory. Mallory is a single mother of a child who needs a kidney transplant and the father, even though she hasn’t told him, happens to be a famous musicians. Mallory and Monk met as kids in college and fell madly in love but haven’t seen each other in years (like 13) until a chance beach encounter. Hannah escaped WWII and is now in Egypt. How all the stories connect pulled at my heart strings in the way only Beatriz can and honestly I need a second book to expand on the ending! Mainly taking place on the shores of New England, this book will be your next perfect summer read. I got Hypnotized by Love as a Prime First Reads from Amazon (if you’re a prime member make sure you’re getting your free book each month!) it was unique in the aspect of I’ve never read a romance about a hypnotherapist before. It’s a second chance romance between old high school crushes/friends Savannah and Mason both back at home for the time being in their careers. They reconnect and Savannah has given the opportunity to forgive Mason for what she believes he did to her in high school. For being a shorter book, it touched on some difficult topics like teacher/student relationships and eating disorders. I got the recommendation for Love, Me from @ashleyspivey (which if you’re not following, you should be!) and I devoured it on the beach this morning. It was a normal person/celeb romance. Rachel and Jack met, dated, and loved each other in high school. First vacation read was an ARC of one of my favorite authors, Rebecca Serle, Expiration Dates. It comes out March 5, 2024! Expiration Dates is about Daphne who finds pieces of paper that tell her how long each relationship will last - her relationship’s expiration date. Daphne has lived her life according to this expiration dates instead of maybe her heart. I liked this book but I didn’t love it. It felt like a little something was missing in order for me to really connect (and honestly cry like I have at all her other books). It took me a bit to figure out how the book was set up. I thought the storyline was unique and I liked the characters although you’ll probably be screaming in your head for Daphne to see what’s right in front of her! (When you listen on 1.7x speed you can really crank them out lol) this is one of those audiobooks produced to be an audiobook so it has different actors for each character and sound effects - more like listening to a movie. I like them but this one had this god awful rock type music that was louder than the actual voices in between each “scene” and it was completely unnecessary and annoying. That’s my only complaint. THIS BOOK! Omg I was not expecting the ending of this. I listened to this on Audible and it was a mystery, historical fiction, romance, and duel timelines/stories. This is EMOTIONAL. The present day story is about Georgia whose grandmother has just died and she must now settle her estate and also her unfinished novel. In the past, Georgia’s grandmother, Scarlett, is in WWII in Britain. The unfinished novel by Scarlett is her personal love story and Georgia hires Noah to finish it. Not me reading this book about murders a tropical island before going on vacation to a tropical island 🫣 The Resort was my February Book of the Month pick and takes place on an island in Thailand where visitors and permanents inhabit. The main characters are Cass and Brooke and the story switches between their points of view. Both women have ulterior motives for coming to the island where people keep turning up dead but they must come together to survive. This book was fine. I found this autographed copy of Guy’s Girl at Strand Bookstore in NYC. I didn’t recognize the book but I had marked it as “to read” on Goodreads so I decided to get it. The main thing that struck me while reading was “the voice” of it. It’s third person and to me gave the air of a report on the characters rather than a story about them, if that makes sense? It was very matter of fact. Trigger warning for eating disorders because that is a huge focus of the story. Ginny struggles with eat disorders the whole story while also struggling to find her place, her friends, and Adrian, her love interest. Adrian also has his own problems that he is struggling with that keep him from letting himself love or be loved. I was just raving about @fmcfaddenauthor with a friend the other day about how you always THINK you know what’s going on but then you read the LAST PAGE and turns out you had no idea 🤯 This is what McFadden is amazing at and it rings true for The Teacher. I definitely had it all figured out and then had to read the epilogue twice. This book is about a married couple who both teaches at a high school and gets mixed up with one of their students. I listened to A Love Song for Ricki Wilde and I’m glad I did so in February since the whole story is about a February leap year like this one.
