Happy #facefriday! Or should I say, happy Freddy Friday? Some writing updates: *I drafted and am currently editing Chapter 28 of Book 3. (Estimating about 45 chapters in total in this book, so Chapter 30 will be roughly the two-thirds mark.) Brainstormed some neat ideas for Chapter 29 based on an idea from my critique partner. *Currently editing Chapters 24/25 of Book 1 (out of 50 total chapters). How is your writing going? Let me know in the comments. #horrorwriter #writerslife #writer #writers #writersofinstagram #writersofig #writersofinsta #amwriting #amediting #writingprogress #writingupdate #womenwhowrite #womenwhowritehorror #womenofhorror #wip #horrorfiction #writingcommunity #amwritinghorror #littlewhiteflowers #littlewhiteflowersnovel #littlewhiteflowersbook3 #sequel #indiehorror #bookseries #autisticwriter #autistichorrorwriter #actuallyautistic

Café, Rain, and Umbrella - May Flash Fiction Contest: 280-Word Romance! It was fun to write this one. I love OLxOL Yuri and always wanted to write this kind of story, but with only 280 words, it was challenging. If I have time, I will try to record an audio, but I cannot promise it. Café, Rain and Umbrella We met by chance when you joined our company. You were so different, and the desk that separated us felt like a shoreless sea. Why did you never care about your appearance, fashion, and chitchat during the lunch break? Why did you never tried to fit in? You made me angry when you sat alone, but deep inside, I admired your courage. I wished that just for once I could stop caring too, but I am a coward. I was so afraid of being alone. Even if all those people just fill the emptiness around me, I cannot imagine my world without them. It is a fair deal. We are "friends." With them, my phone and TV, I managed to push my loneliness away. And I knew they do the same... but you were different... and I hated it. I was busy that day, too busy for lunch. I let my "friends" go without me. I just had too much to do... You came to my desk with a cup of coffee, a sandwich, and a smile. For a long time, I wondered why you did this. I never believed your "you looked hungry." Why then? You never cared about those unspoken contracts that bound people to be nice. You weren't like this... then why? It was a rainy day. I took my courage and shared my umbrella with you. Now your daughter calls me "mom." Published on https://neobook.org/book/FmLeHz7V/ The contest is open for submissions until the 22nd of May. I’m alive, barely. Been struggling with massive burnout all last month and am only just starting to get barriers in place that let me function. Telling people “no” or “I know I said yes before but I can’t anymore” is one of the worst experiences for me and I also get massive anxiety from disappointing people so all of April was just me in recovery mode I think. *But* on the positive side, insta has finally granted me the share-your-saved-posts capability. I decided it would be great to share the posts on autism/neurodiversity I’ve found since my diagnosis that have been particularly helpful to me, as maybe they can be helpful to someone else too! It’s already got a lot of content in it so I might separate it out into different categories soon but that’s a later-me decision 😅 . . #autism #autistic #autisticlife #autismresources #savedposts #actuallyautistic #autisticburnout #instagramsavedposts #resourcesforautism #usefulforlater #autisticauthor #autisticwriter #maskingishard #autisticexhaustion #autismhelp #afterdiagnosis #autisticunmasking #autismunmasking

I saw the Broadway tour of “Mean Girls” this past weekend. In addition to it being “fetch”😊It made me think about how much I struggled in high school with my weight, depression, anxiety, Autism and ADHD I didn’t know I had, and not fitting it. ⁣ ⁣ I happy cried watching this show about high schoolers at 35, feeling really happy with myself and my life. ⁣ ⁣ And it was a long road to get here. I started therapy at 18 and I still go once a month now. Sometimes, from the outside looking in, we just see people’s successes and not all the time spent, failures had and ugly crying. I have spent years: walking on the beach, mediating, listening to podcasts, reading books, going to therapy, seeking more accurate diagnoses and journaling. And now, I am learning and loving being neurodiverse. ⁣ ⁣ If you feel like you don’t belong, you do, you just haven’t found your people yet💗⁣ If you feel like you can never be happy, keep going✨⁣ I hope you find the happiness and peace within yourself that you deserve, and that you learn so many beautiful things along the way✨⁣ ⁣ Sending love, ⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Nicole🩷⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ #writingforjoy  #authorsofinstagram #queerauthors #romancebooks #queerromancebooks #WLW #WLWromance #WLWromancebooks⁣⁣⁣ #writersofinstagram #lgbtqbooks⁣⁣⁣ #booklover #booksofinstagram #amwriting #writer #autism #autistic #autisticfemales #neurodiverse #neurodiversity⁣⁣⁣ #neurodivergent⁣⁣⁣ #autisticwomen #autisticlife #adhdlife #adhdwomen #autisticwriter #queerautistic #lgbtqia #lgbtqwriter⁣⁣⁣ #lgbtqwriters #queerbooks⁣⁣⁣

On Wednesdays I with my friend Michelle run a table top role playing game, it's me in the theatrical story telling role, game show host position and Michelle does the therapy part, my local autism support service had us trained and set up this whole thing, it has been wonderful for me as I have met other autists and my specific type of spicy autism serves a greater good and that is amazing. But even in this super supportive setting I realize that social batteries drain even with the best people, having the most fun, doing theatrical creative things! And that is ok, it's OK to need a 5 hr nap afterwards or 14... lol. #autists #autist #autism #as #aspie #aspergers #autismawareness #autisticwriter #autismismysuperpower #prodigalyamspecific #prodigalyam

How do you track your writing progress? This is my latest attempt at tracking my writing progress. I was loosely inspired by temperature paintings, where people will paint a square for each day of the year with a color corresponding to the temperature range. I made a grid with the months of the year for the columns and the days of the month for the rows in Google Sheets, pasted it into a Word document, and printed it. Each day when I finish writing and editing, I color in the corresponding rectangle with whichever chapters I've worked on that day. Each color represents a different chapter. So, for example, I started the year editing Chapter 13 of Book 3. Those top four yellow squares in the first picture represent the days I worked on Chapter 13. The yellow-green is Chapter 14, and so on. I'm working with a limited number of gel pens, so the colors do repeat, as in, Chapter 23 is the same color yellow as Chapter 13, Chapter 24 is the same yellow-green as Chapter 14, etc. But as long as I keep moving forward, it works. I also edit as I go, and there's no way in my current method to distinguish between drafting and editing days, but it seems to take me about a day and a half on average to draft a chapter. So, for most of these, the first couple of blocks in a given color band represent the drafting phase, but I'm not too concerned about distinguishing between them. The second page shows my progress editing Book 1. While I am adding a little bit of new material here and there based on my sensitivity reader's feedback, a lot of this is just cleaning up my old writing, so it's a faster process than drafting something entirely new and then editing it. And it looks so pretty! Do you track your writing progress? I'd love to hear about your methods in the comments. #horrorwriter #writerslife #writer #writers #writersofinstagram #writersofig #writersofinsta #amwriting #amediting #writingprogress #writingupdate #womenwhowrite #womenwhowritehorror #womenofhorror #wip #horrorfiction #writingcommunity #amwritinghorror #littlewhiteflowers #littlewhiteflowersnovel #littlewhiteflowersbook3 #sequel #indiehorror #bookseries #autisticwriter #autistichorrorwriter #actually

As an AuDHDer, I am different, but in many ways, I'm still average... average height, average shoe size, average eye color, a slightly above average head circumference (which is actually said to be common in autism - Lauren M. Elder, et al), etc. In some ways different, in others average... not less, not more, not too much... And I wouldn't have it any other way! 😊 Also, context is key! What may seem so different to a neurotypical is actually quite average or normal amongst autistic and even allistic neurodivergent folks. Also, autistic traits are human traits, so neurotypical people can relate to certain aspects of autism... to an extent. *Image description and text in alt text and a pinned comment* Hashtags: #ΑυτιστικόΆτομο #Αυτιστικός #Αυτιστική #Αυτισμός #ΔΕΠΥ #AutisticWriter # #AutisticPoet #AutisticPoetry #AutismPoetry #Poetry #NeurodivergentPoet #GreekAutistic #GreekPoetry #DifferentNotLess #Νευροδιαφορετικότητα #AuDHDpoet #AuDHDwriter #AuDHD #Autistic_Poetics

I was diagnosed with Autism a few years ago when I was 32, which was helpful. But, not all of the things I struggled with fell under the category of Autism. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ And that’s because I also have ADHD!💗I have both in-attentive ADHD (I daydream in my head and get distracted and leave tasks unfinished) and hyperactive ADHD (restless, irritable, impulsive). I have just found a medication that works for me🎉after years of nothing working. Apparently my brain does not like or need more serotonin, it only wants dopamine! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It’s been so helpful for me to understand why I don’t like to start tasks that have too many steps, and why it’s hard for me to consistently commit to a goal and work on it everyday (like Instagram and writing😊)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ My meds help me a lot and I am also a fan of setting a timer and telling myself, “you are going to write for 20 minutes, it can be the worst thing you’ve ever written, that’s okay.” Usually it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever written and after the timer goes off I often want to keep writing or working on what I am doing. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Do you have any good ADHD executive function/goal completion tips and tricks?✨⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Nicole🩷⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ P.S. hello all! my first poetry book is officially for sale 🎉🎉💕💕 posting this for the last day of autism month: Explorations of an Autistic Mind; a collection of poems and personal essays by me! click the link in my description to purchase the epub or pdf file! Explorations of an Autistic Mind is a collection of poems and short personal essays that explore my mind through the autistic lens. It includes 65 poems and 4 essays as well as an in-depth explanation as to how exactly my autistic experience influences the writings included. I use the term 'exploration' because the collection delves into many aspects of my experience as an autistic person in this society. There is true joy and utter loss. These poems are vulnerable, jovial, and everything in between. Had a drs appointment today and my autism came up, the nurse said you don't look autistic, I told her I was into theater, and basically made her feel better about my autism, she was a nice person, but that interaction will set me back emotionally, I had already exhausted my social battery going, getting up, getting dressed, so now I am home watching twilight zone the black an white ones, and trying to recharge. It's alot. Wish there was a better way to explain that. #autismismysuperpower #autism #masking #as #autisticwriter #autist #aspergers #aspie #autismawareness

My first book didn't start out as successful as I wanted it to be, but instead of giving up on it, I looked into what I could do to improve it. I changed my marketing strategy (multiple times), fixed up a plot hole, cleaned up the writing, added to my back matter, and did many more things in order to give my book the best chance I could. And it has made a difference! As a historical fantasy romance without any 🌶, it's still not written "to market," but I'm so proud of what I've accomplished with it, and so many readers have gotten to enjoy it because I didn't give up. I hope you don't give up on your writing either! #autisticwriter #neurodivergentwriter #autisticwriting #writingtips #christianmommywriters

The Room - A Short Story by William Spencer Go read on my website, link in bio! After stumbling across various short stories I’ve written since 6th grade, I am now going to publish on my website. While there isn’t a set schedule on releases, I will let you know here on IG! “The Room” was written for one of my creative writing classes I took during community college in Arizona in 2014. My teacher gave the class a prompt to write a story from: a room. I was a bit shocked how dark + horrifying the story became, not trying to become the next Stephen King here 😂 Please enjoy this short story by yours truly! Going to work with retro vibes. As Autism Awareness Month comes to an end, just wanna give a word of encouragement and inspiration to ALWAYS be yourself. Autistic or allistic. Growing up, I never learned to mask. My mum always taught me to embrace my differences. When I got frustrated about not fitting in, she was honest about how my differences would always make this hard for me BUT how it would also allow me to find authentic people that truly love me for me. Because I do not mask, people automatically notice my communication differences and Asperger's traits; but as I meet more people that accept me and love me for these traits, even say I'm cool, I learn to love and accept these differences that I often didn't understand growing up. In short, I am so BLESSED and thankful for all the people in my circle and for a mum who never gives up; never stops believing in me; and NEVER stops advocating. She gets so happy when I find authentic people to befriend and who accept me for me. I was once told by a coworker: "To know you is to love you" and that is so true😊🙃 HAPPY SUNDAY! #blessed #christiangirlsrock #christianwriters #retro #retrowear #retrofashion #autismlife💙 #aspergirl #aspiesofinstagram #autisticdoctor #autisticwriter #autismawarenessmonth2024 #aspergers #autismmom #autismmomlife💙 #neurodivergent #autismmomlife #blackdoctors #mixedgirl #loveyourself #veterinariansofinstagram🐾👩🏽‍⚕️🐇 #veterinarylife #amateurblogger #beyourself #fashionista #bellepoque #inspiration #blackveterinarian #nativeamerican

Eek! I'm so excited for this anthology, coming your way May 15th. Thank you to @h.everend.author, @mcgregorsays, and @january_ember_press for putting this together. There are so many amazing authors featured in this volume, and I cannot wait to read all the stories! My story, The Specter of Rejection, deals with the negative emotions that come with rejection, but with a paranormal twist. It comes from a personal place, which I'll talk about a little bit more as we get closer to release day. But rejection is an unfortunate reality for even the most talented writers, and I hope that my story will resonate with some of you. #book #books #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #booksofig #booksofinsta #igreads #horrorwriter #writerslife #writer #writers #writersofinstagram #writersofig #writersofinsta #indiehorror #womenwhowritehorror #womenofhorror #autisticwriter #autistichorrorwriter #actuallyautistic

Happy #facefriday! How's your week been going? I was pretty jazzed to see the Writer's Retreat cover reveal, and I am so excited that ARCs are almost here! The stories from my fellow contributors sound so amazing. I can't wait to read them! I had to kill off my first character in Book 3. It hasn't really hit me yet, but I imagine it will soon. But that's one death down, a number more to go. Going with some Alice in Wonderland vibes today. Fun fact: Charles Dodsgon, better known by his pen name Lewis Carroll, was most likely autistic. Julie Brown profiles him and nine other well-known authors in her book Writers on the Spectrum. The book itself is a bit dated. It uses dated terminology and also perpetuates this weird notion that autistic people can't be novelists, which is definitely not true. But it provides some neat insights into how autism shaped Dodsgon's life and works. #horrorwriter #writerslife #writer #writers #writersofinstagram #writersofig #writersofinsta #amwriting #amediting #writingupdate #womenwhowrite #womenwhowritehorror #womenofhorror #wip #horrorfiction #writingcommunity #amwritinghorror #littlewhiteflowers #littlewhiteflowersnovel #littlewhiteflowersbook3 #indiehorror #autisticwriter #autistichorrorwriter #actuallyautistic #aliceinwonderland #disneybound #aliceinwonderlanddisneybound #alice #alicedisneybound

Do any of these quotes sound like you? If so, it's not your fault. If you are neurodivergent (e.g.autistic, ADHD, dyslexia), trying to follow advice meant for neurotypical writers is like trying to run Windows software on a Mac or vice versa. It won't work and will probably crash your system. What DOES work is a neurodivergent friendly, step-by-step process to get your book out of your head and into the world. I'm offering a $47 virtual masterclass on HOW TO GET YOUR BOOK ON AMAZON (for neurospicy brains) on 11 May. The world needs to read the book only you can write. Do you prefer to edit electronically or by hand? I do both, and I tend to go through phases where I rely on one or the other more heavily. With Book 3, which I'm currently drafting, I do my edits pretty much exclusively electronically, but with the current batch of edits on Book 1, I've been doing these by hand. I feel like for me, the electronic edits are great for larger scale edits, whereas hand editing is best for fine tuning. But I do use both for both purposes. #horrorwriter #writerslife #writer #writers #writersofinstagram #writersofig #writersofinsta #womenwhowrite #womenwhowritehorror #womenofhorror #wip #horrorfiction #writingcommunity #autisticwriter #autistichorrorwriter #actuallyautistic

Why do I love reading romance books?⁣💗 ⁣ I am Autistic and I don’t always love change (even positive change) because my brain has to shut down and re-boot to process and assimilate the new information. I also get overwhelmed if I have too many in-person, social events in a row. ⁣ ⁣ My favorite way to recharge is by reading and I especially love romance books because I can relax knowing there is a predictable story line. ⁣ ⁣ People meet+things happen+they break up+they get back together+we see them happy in the future. ⁣ ⁣ I can enjoy reading about characters, without having to be in a social setting where I have to focus, mask, and talk. I can enjoy the ups and downs of the book knowing we are heading for a predictable ending, not one where I am going to be ugly crying and use an entire tissue box (thank you Nicholas Sparks). ⁣ ⁣ Romance books feel safe, cozy and predictable to me, in a world that’s not predictable and sometimes makes my head spin. ⁣ ⁣ So, big thank you to all of the awesome romance book writers out there! You have helped this Autistic girl to relax and enjoy reading for fun again! ⁣ ⁣ What are some reasons you love reading romance books?💕⁣ ⁣ Nicole🩷⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #writingforjoy  #authorsofinstagram #queerauthors #romancebooks #queerromancebooks #WLW #WLWromance #WLWromancebooks⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #writersofinstagram #lgbtqbooks⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #booklover #booksofinstagram #amwriting #writer #autism #autistic #autisticfemales #neurodiverse #neurodiversity⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #neurodivergent⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #autisticwomen #autisticlife #adhdlife #adhdwomen #autisticwriter #queerautistic #lgbtqia #lgbtqwriter⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #lgbtqwriters #queerbooks⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes, on Wednesdays I do group ttrpg where me an my partner do stories like choose your own adventure, and I do the voices, afterwards I'm usually pretty exhausted, it's on zoom so it's not a social battery draining as it is thinking draining, but I really enjoy it and it's all other people like me, point being I picked this meme to relate to how we need to realize as do others that things that NT people don't find exhausting cab make us neurodivergent absolutely exhausted an we need to give ourselves time to recoup an regroup. #autism #aspie #autistic #autisticwriter #as #aspergers #actuallyautistic #prodigalyam #autismacceptance

🌈An excerpt from my poetry book "Spectral Lines" (buy link in bio!). "The rules" above have a sarcastic tone to them and are written from an immigrant lens. "The rules" from an Autistic lens: (also /s) 1. Say you're doing fine, even if you're far from it and close to having a meltdown. Being perceived as "chill" is better than being called a weirdo who can't keep it together. 2. Go to social events, even when overstimulated, to maintain your social standing and not hurt anyone's feelings. 3. Don't be honest about what goes on behind closed doors, even though that's your initial instinct, and you have difficulty telling even small lies. 4. Stop being so sensitive and solutions-driven and dissociate from your feelings altogether. Having alexithymia is a perk. 🖍I'm currently working on a post about the double-masking involved when growing up as an autistic second-generation immigrant and how one form of assimilation magnifies the other. I'll probably be posting that in the next week or so. *Plain text and image description in alt text and a pinned comment. Born with a voice that could not be heard, Naoki Higashida's journey of self-discovery and determination is truly inspiring. ✨ Despite being diagnosed with severe autism at the young age of five, he refused to let it define him. Through his handmade alphabet grid, he found a way to communicate and express his thoughts, resulting in beautiful poems and stories. At just thirteen, he wrote the heartfelt book, The Reason I Jump, which has now been translated into over thirty languages. 🌍 Today, Higashida continues to share his story and insights on autism, proving that anything is possible with determination and perseverance. Hello my dears, What was your first thought today as you woke up? There was a time in my life when my thoughts were dark but now, looking back, I can see that it was the task I was given that saved me. The task to gather stories from all over the worlds. I witnessed happenings from the far-fetched corners of our vast universe, and the people I met changed me. You already know the story of Milady and Lucy, the audiobook that is now published on YouTube as The Pact. Now, I'm working on the next one. Miriam, who struggles with the path that she's been given and Greta, who is yet to see what she hid so many years ago. It will take some time to bring this story out, I want to make sure that no happenings are lost. But rest assured, I will bring it out, because I want to share it all with you. #supportqueerauthors #queerauthor #lgbtauthor #lgbtqauthor #queerbook #lgbtqbook #allinclusive #autistic #autisticauthor #autisticauthors #autisticwriter #autisticwriters

I don’t know about you, but I am exhausted. I am barely keeping my head above water. And it’s so hard when months like #AutismAcceptanceMonth comes, because I have so many ideas, and so many things I want to say. But the reality is: i’m disabled and chronically ill, and I have very little energy. Which is so frustrating, and debilitating. I try to use my lived experience as much as I can–like working with health services and researchers, and helping develop the National Autism Strategy. But I wish I could do so much more on social media. It’s hard when you exist in a world that largely doesn’t consider you–where you have to constantly fight to be heard, included, and create change. That’s why allies are SO important: YOU have the power to help us create change. Share our work. Like and comment on our posts to increase engagement. Invite people to follow us. Share paid opportunities with us, to write, to speak and to share our lived experience. We need you. And together, I truly believe we will change the world. Step by step. To any other advocates who are also too tired to create: I see you. And just existing, you already make a difference. ID: a white tile with splotches of pink and the words: “I feel bad I haven’t posted about Autism Acceptance Month: but the truth is, I’m so tired. We all are. It’s not easy having to constantly advocate to exist.” #Autism #Autistic #AutisticAdults #AutisticWomen #AutisticBurnout #ActuallyAutistic #AutisticBlogger #AutisticWriter #Disabled #DisabledBlogger #DisabledAdvocate #Disability #DisabilityAdvocate #AutisticAdvocate #AutismAwareness #AutismAcceptance #AutismAwarenessMonth

Rejection is an experience that most find unpleasant. However, for those of us with rejection sensitive dysphoria (RSD), each rejection or perceived rejection can be a deeply painful experience. The smallest criticisms feel like an indictment of our worth as a person. RSD can affect all aspects of life, including work, school, and interpersonal relationships. While RSD is not unique to autistic folks and ADHDers, we experience it at higher rates than the general population. This is due to a variety of factors, including the fact that neurodivergent people tend to experience more social rejection than neurotypicals as well as the difficulties many neurodivergent folks have interpreting social cues and linguistic subtleties. Writing for a public audience comes with myriad opportunities for perceived rejection, from critiques to rejected submissions to negative reviews. So how do you cope? Sharing my work with supportive people who can offer critical feedback is probably what has helped me the most. It gives me the opportunity to practice receiving feedback in a safer environment. This will not get rid of the pain entirely. Brian has been critiquing my work for years, and it still sometimes stings to see his markups. But I know he has my best interests at heart, so that helps me to see his edits as a chance to improve rather than as proof that I'm a failure. Getting comfortable with his critiques has helped me to receive feedback from editors and others who aren't so closely tied to me. Have you dealt with RSD? Do you have tips that have helped you? I'd love to hear them in the comments! #horrorwriter #writerslife #writer #writers #writersofinstagram #writersofig #writersofinsta #autism #autismacceptancemonth #autismacceptance #autismawarenessmonth #actuallyautistic #autisticwriter #autistichorrorwriter #rejectionsensitivedysphoria

Beautiful drawing by @liv.mab gracing the cover of our third Eight Page Press chapbook, now available to purchase on my website! (Link in bio). Ethnobotany is the study and use of native/indigenous medicinal plants. This poem was inspired by the work of Jaleel Ibrahim Quragheely. In the Iraq war he dispensed herbal medicines to the needy and wrote a comprehensive herbal - 834 plants and their traditional uses in Iraq medicine. He was killed in 2009. His wife smuggled out his work from a safe house in Syria. The only surviving copy is with his daughter in Oxford. It is also for the soldier I met on a train to Leeds. I was 32 when I was diagnosed with Autism, and so many things finally made sense. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ My Autism loves: putty, tight hugs, my weighted blanket, my weighted stuffed animals, reading in bed for hours, swimming and playing in water, soft textures, crunchy and mushy food and having everything in its place✨⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I still struggle with: selective mutism (not being able to talk in certain social settings because of intense anxiety), when plans change, after I have to mask and be out in the world “peopling” for too long, not being able to read for long stretches of time, certain food textures, light (I would love to be a vampire🧛🏻‍♀️) auditory processing and processing/sensory overload.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Every day is an adventure and I really wouldn’t have it any other way💕⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Do you have a favorite object, food, activity that makes you feel happy and whole? I miei amici iniziarono a voler andare lì tutti i giorni, perciò li accompagnavo e me ne restavo in disparte qualche minuto, poi me ne andavo.

On my 28th birthday it seems appropriate to share this meme, and the collage my mom made for her annual huge post of me, don't feel bad all my siblings get one. As I have a horrible memory of alot of my childhood, probably because of the seizures, I can say that as far as I know services were better younger, as an adult involved in the process to get services for myself, I can say with certainty I do not know how people without a support system do it, I don't know how someone without access to at least one person who loves them an is hell bent on then being just OK, not even excelling just surviving, does it. There really needs to be a movement to make needing help and access better, the people who give up their career and time to make a difference in their autistic family members life better, better access, more funding, more protections and less red tape. And a better baseline for what is acceptable for autistic peoples lives, and stop the abeliest crap. My birthday rant is over, I will basque in the irony my autistic butt was born in this month. #autistic #autism #autisticwriter #as #aspergers #as pie #actuallyautistic #autist #prodigalyam

When I was in graduate school, one of my professors, Dr. Ott, gave us some advice for writing our doctoral project papers. He said, “the best way to finish, is to put words on paper. It’s okay to research and think, but it won’t ever get done if you don’t put words on paper.”⁣ ⁣ I think of his advice often. Sometimes I am too scared, or I want to wait until everything is perfect, and sometimes, the best way is to write the worst first draft, or start somewhere and get better. ⁣ ⁣ So, next time you are tempted to wait, go and “put words on paper!”⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Xoxo Nicole🩷⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ #writingforjoy  #authorsofinstagram #queerauthors #romancebooks #queerromancebooks #WLW #WLWromance #WLWromancebooks⁣⁣⁣ #writersofinstagram #lgbtqbooks⁣⁣⁣ #booklover #booksofinstagram #amwriting #writer #autism #autistic #autisticfemales #neurodiverse #neurodiversity⁣⁣⁣ #neurodivergent⁣⁣⁣ #autisticwomen #autisticlife #adhdlife #adhdwomen #autisticwriter #queerautistic #lgbtqia #lgbtqwriter⁣⁣⁣ #lgbtqwriters #queerbooks⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

Hello loves, How are you feeling today? I know that the world is dark right now, I feel it too, but remember that your light counts. You count. Never forget that, love. As you might have noticed, my book The Pact is now out on YouTube as an audiobook. People have asked me to name it by its genre, an urban fantasy, but the truth is that I don't much care for the categorization. Just like you, it's the people I care for. Their journey and their courage. When I witnessed this story, a long time ago, I was in awe both for Lucy's bravery to hold on to her light, and Milady's courage to face it. I do hope they lived out their life in happiness, it was a long time since I visited them and their world. ✨ Känner du igen dig i min upplevelse?

Today I chose #RedInstead. The goal of #RedInstead is to help bring acceptance and support to autistic people and center autistic people in conversations about autism. It is in response to Autism Speak's "Light it up Blue" initiative. I have posted before about my issues with Autism Speaks, so I want to focus today primarily on the color blue. The choice of blue to represent autism is problematic both because blue is a color of loss and grief and because it perpetuates the idea that autism is inherently masculine. The strong cultural association between autism and masculinity makes it harder for those of us socialized as girls to receive autism diagnoses. While autistic people of any gender can have any set of autistic traits, gendered socialization plays a significant role in what traits and interests an autistic person develops. If doctors, clinicians, and educators associate autism with masculinity, they are more likely to look for stereotypically masculine traits when deciding who to refer for an evaluation and during the evaluation process. My elementary school report cards basically said, she's smart, but we've seen kids raised by wolves with better social skills. I was placed in speech and language therapy to help me improve my social skills, a common intervention for autistic children. But my main special interests were writing, horror, and science, none of which screamed autism. I don't fault anyone for not recognizing my autism sooner because the 90s were different time, but we need to put to rest the idea that only boys have autism. (But I also really love the color blue, so I've been thinking about doing an ultra femme blue look to talk more about gender biases in autism evaluations and diagnostic criteria. If that's something you'd be interested in, let me know.) #autism #autismacceptancemonth #autismacceptance #autismawarenessmonth #actuallyautistic #autisticwriter #autistichorrorwriter #horrorwriter #writerslife #writer #writers #writersofinstagram #writersofig #writersofinsta #womenwhowrite #womenwhowritehorror #womenofhorror #writingcommunity #ootd #outfit #outfitoftheday #outfits #autismmonth
