The Broken Earth trilogy is testament to her ability to craft a rich world, with fully fleshed out magical and socio-political systems that are fantastical, while still providing thought-provoking commentary on the real world. I’m not going to lie, I found this series dense at times and did struggle through this book in parts, but I think that’s mostly because I’m a mood reader and was in the mood for something lighter, but it hooked me back in in final 100 pages and I couldn’t put it down. Okay @ellekennedy33 I’m gonna need a book three in this series. Ijs This was a good one. Second book in a two book series but they set the table for a book three at the end so I’m hopeful for a book three. The story is a romance with a mystery woven in about two girls whose father is the principal of a boys boarding school. The first book centered around the one sister and this book was about the other one. It’s told from multiple viewpoints, which I normally don’t like but didn’t mind. It was good. Solid 8/10. Funny thing, I was almost to the end of the book when it started to not make sense. Come to find out it was a flawed printing so the pages weren’t in order. I had to drive around to multiple stores to find one in stock. ✨Series Review✨ The Inheritance Games The Hawthorne Legacy The Final Gambit By Jennifer Lynn Barnes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I just binge-listened to The Final Gambit today and OMG what a great ending to this trilogy! I’ve had my eye on this series for a while but finally listened to the first book, The Inheritance Games, a few weeks ago after my girl @lunarcatbooks raved about it! Honestly, I haven’t truly binged a series in so long, but this one was SO fun! It was very fast paced and as the book says there are traps upon traps upon traps. “Why kill 2 birds with 1 stone when you can kill 12?” This series was clever and addictive - filled with puzzles, it keeps you on your toes. My one gripe - if you can call it that - is that the love triangle felt forced and unnecessary especially since the romance in general in these books was not the main plot. Xander is my favorite Hawthorne brother, but honestly I found the majority of characters really likable and I was team Jameson as far as the romance. I highly recommend the audio books for these, but I did read the physical book of The Hawthorne Legacy, so can endorse the traditional reading of these books too. LOVED THIS ONE. “The Women” by Kristin Hannah. I can’t say enough good about this book. I was captivated for all 400+ pages. I loved how it moved so quickly. I have never read a book about Vietnam and I was totally taken in from this era of history. It was hard to read some things that happened, but I’m grateful for the knowledge and more importantly for all the Vietnam Veterans and especially the women. The horrors of war seem unfathomable. I absolutely LOVED this book. This is a MUST READ. It starts on Coronado Beach in California and I have had the privilege of visiting there and absolutely loved it- it helped visualize the state side sections of this book, because I could truly picture it. #readersofinstagram #reader #Vietnam #TheWomen
Book 20 of 2024 complete! This was my original 2024 goal, but it looks like we'll be setting a new goal! 😍 A Beautiful Wedding ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Part 3 of the series. This is a novella, so it's much shorter than the other 2, but so much happened in that short time. It's written the way I prefer. Each characters point of view takes turns vs. the first two being just Abby or just Travis' point of view. It really closed Travis & Abby's story well. I mean, I didn't get more of those last 2 pages from book two, but the deep dive we did take was beautifully written. There are several more books that spin off from this series, but for now, I think I'll move on to another book. 🚨BOOK REVIEW🚨 Can Abby Jimenez write a bad book? Because I seriously don’t think so! Yours Truly was absolutely delightful and I loved every minute of it. Jacob was an absolute angel and I would take a bullet for him. He is 100% at the top of my list of favorite book boyfriends. I could actually spend this entire review talking about how much I loved Jacob but I promise I won’t because there are other things I loved about this book. I loved the plot (fake dating is one of my FAVORITES tropes) and I loved watching ❤️Jacob❤️ and Briana’s love unfold. 🌴 (More) Beach Reads 🌴 I read two other books while I was on vacation as well! I love reading rom-coms at the beach, and these two definitely didn’t disappoint. First up was New Adult by Timothy Janovsky. This was a cute little 13 Going On 30 style story. Nolan and Drew were both great characters but I especially loved Drew. Next was my second Emily Henry, People We Meet on Vacation. This one took me a bit longer to get into than Beach Read did, but once I was in, I was INVESTED. I loved getting to know the characters through the flashbacks to their previous vacations together, and couldn’t help but root for them to get together in the end. I’ll definitely be picking up more Emily Henry books in the future! I had such a great, relaxing vacation and wish I could go back right now!
