This book is a SHITSHOW…… Chaotic, drama central & downright Toxic (capital T & emphasised) yet I’m eating it all up and so invested 🫠 Current thoughts at 50% in 💭 ☁️ BJ - I don’t dislike him, I should, but I don’t. He is absolutely frustrating to the core. But like I also need more, need to know more. ☁️ Magnolia - She should annoy the living daylights out of me and get her shit together quite literally ASAP. BUT I have walked in her shoes (in a of course less than crazy way) but I have genuinely been there before and this shit is not as easy to get out of. So I empathise for her & know what she is going through and what it takes to finally be able to call it quits and truly be done. No matter how many people around you see it, suggest it. You will never do it until YOU are ready. ☁️ Tom England - I’ve just been introduced to him and he seems to be a genuine, sweet soul. Interested to see where his character goes. ☁️ Christian - I am looking forward to reading more about him and getting a more in depth insight to him in the next book. I’m intrigued. This is the first book of the Off Campus series I read (I know, wrong order since this is book 3) This is also the series that finally made me buy a Kindle in April of last year. Since then my reading journey has completely shifted and I have read more in the past year than ever before. This series is such a comfort for me. The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee What a feat! In a world where jade can imbue its wearer with exceptional skills (strength, speed, senses), those who control the jade market have all the power. The series revolves around the power struggle between two powerful jade clans as outside forces try to worm their way into the jade market. Fonda Lee has created such interesting and dynamic (and frustrating) characters that will have you screaming in anger one moment and crying the next. I especially loved watching Hilo develop and grow across the three books, even if he was constantly pissing me off. This was such a great series—so well done, especially over the span of time this book covers. I am sad it is over but also glad that I finished it.

I actually had no idea what I wanted to read this month so I’ve picked a few that I’ve been dying to get to! I did start Daisy Haites but it wasn’t really doing anything for me, I’ve also started Part of Your World - I have only read a chapter to get a feel for the book and I think I’m going to be reading that one first, I’m already eager to reach for it so that’s a good sign. I have a lovely 4 days off work over the bank holiday weekend so I’m looking forward to some family time and hopefully lots of reading because I’m in a major slump!

Doch am liebsten bleibe ich natürlich für längere Zeit dort, gehe mit dem Meeresrauschen ins Bett und werde gerne so geweckt. Sobald ich die Zecheriner Brücke überquere und auf der Insel Usedom bin, passiert etwas mit mir, ich fühle mich frei und kann Gedanken hinter mir lassen, die mir nicht gut tun. Und dann am Meer, wenn ich den Blick aufs Wasser richte, überhaupt das erste Mal das Meer sehe, die wunderbare Ostseeluft einatme, den Sand unter meine Füßen spüre, empfinde ich riesengroßes Glück, und will nicht mehr weg. ✧ 𝐚𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝐰𝐫𝐚𝐩 𝐮𝐩!🌒 📖no books this month unfortunately :/ but it’s officially summer break for me so i’m hoping i’ll have some more time to read ! 🎞️i watched one movie this month and i really loved it. bodies bodies bodies was so fun and didn’t play out as i expected (which is exactly how horror movies should be) 📺i finally finished the second season of loki ! that ending was crazzzyy omg. i also watched the live action of atla, which was disappointing as expected. 🎧i sing espresso by sabrina at least 30 times a day. good luck babe and too sweet occupy a majority of my brain space as well. ttpd also came out this month and it was good. i’ve also really loved milk teeth and poison poison lately ! 💗april held quite a lot of special moments for me. the solar eclipse was amazing. i had lots of club traditions, award ceremonies, banquets, and end-of-the-year festivities. i survived finals week and successfully completed my second year of uni :) ✧ how was your april? any special moments, good reads, favorite songs??💫

Book review - Do you prefer the Hero or the Villain? I still ship The Darkling so I guess I'm all about the villains. This was a wild ride of a read. We have Rae, who is dying of cancer and gets a second chance at life by entering the world of her favourite book series and ends up being a villain in the story. She decides to embrace her wicked ways and of course, chaos ensues. I really enjoyed this story which puts a spotlight on what makes a hero or a villain but I think there was a lot about perspective too. There were a few scenes where the same events were taken in completely different ways, depending on the characters perspective which I found interesting. Also I am shipping two particular characters so hard that if they don't get together in the next book, I will riot! This was an amusing book with plenty of feels and plot twists - sign me up for book 2! I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this masterpiece. I completely fell in love with the characters in this book. Daphne and Miles are the greenest of greenest flags and must be protected at all costs. It was also a genuinely funny story, I lost count of how many times I laughed out loud! I think what made this book even more perfect for me was the setting. It’s set in Michigan which is my home state! I loved all the Michigan references so much! 🌿Graphic Novel: Het Uur U: Het Stepperijk & Stupor Mundi🌿 Het Uur U is een stripreeks waarbij ze in elk deel een stukje van de geschiedenis herschrijven. Stel dat niet de Amerikanen, maar de Russen als eerste op de maan waren geraakt. Stel dat Duitsland de Eerste Wereldoorlog won. Of in dit geval: Stel dat de Mongolen het Romeinse Rijk (en daarbij het grootste deel van Europa) hadden veroverd? De meeste verhalen uit de reeks zijn afgerond met één strip, maar deze bestaat uit twee delen. Het speelt zich af in 1242-1243 en we volgen twee broers; een ridder en een monnik die het hart van Mongolië willen betreden om Christelijk Europa te redden. Wat ik erg fijn vond was dat de strips vol actie zitten. We reizen vanuit Europa naar Mongolië en weer terug en daarbij volgen we de avonturen van onze helden. Als ik niet beter wist, zou ik misschien wel denken dat het echt gebeurd zou zijn. De verhalen worden op een erg doordachte manier verteld. Hoewel er veel gebeurt, is het wel goed te volgen en het verhaal zit goed in elkaar. De tekeningen zijn ook erg mooi. Aangezien de strips in de reeks niet op elkaar volgen (behalve soms twee albums na elkaar), zijn ze makkelijk apart te lezen en kan je gewoon een onderwerp nemen dat je interesseert. Ik ga zeker nog meer lezen in deze reeks!
A few moments alone with my baby to simply just sit, sip hot chocolate and chat. Having multiple children is wonderful and exhausting all rolled into one. Having quality one to one time after school today for just 20 mins was perfection. It honestly turned out to be the highlight of my week so far. A moment to realise I am enough, as she nestled into me and talked through her little worry. If you got this far we pre-ordered the little book of the little Brontes at the start of the year and it’s been a firm favourite and read on repeat for past few months. This book was so incredible I could not put it down and it will absolutely be one of my top reads of this year! I don’t want to spoil too much in this review but I adored this story so much. Anna reminded me a lot of myself, she is kind and has a huge heart and tends to give so much to others while not giving anything to herself. When she is granted immortality from our mmc Khiran she has a second chance at life and a chance to helps those who may have met fates worse than hers. Throughout the story Anna faces so much heartbreak and tragedy and death but she also gets to experience the beauty of life and she gets to learn what it is to love and to allow herself to be loved all while healing from the trauma of her past. Some of you may remember that The Language Puzzle by Steven Mithen was included in my most anticipated 2024 releases list. I usually don't get to read new releases until a few years later, so I was extremely grateful that I got approved for an ARC of this. Thank you, @netgalley and the publisher, @basicbooks for making that happen in exchange for my honest review 💜 The basic idea behind the book is that science is still not 100% sure how language originally came about, so the author figured if he pieced together the latest findings from archeology, linguistics, anthropology, psychology and genetics like a puzzle, he would get the complete picture and would probably arrive at a solution. You can pick up this book even if you don't know anything about linguistics. It goes back to the very basics, down to what a phoneme or morpheme is. The same goes for other topics, their basics are all painstakingly described before we get into it: the prehistory of humans, the structure of the brain, etc. That actually made me ponder whether all that was necessary and maybe the book could have been shorter without these explanations (it's ~600 pages long). However, I understand that the author's concept required him to paint a comprehensive picture. While I said you don't need to be an expert in any of the topics to understand the book, I think it helps if you're REALLY interested in linguistics and anthropology. Without that, I'm not sure how enjoyable an experience it would be. I am, luckily, extremely invested in all these fields, so the whole ride was a fun and eye-opening one. I did enjoy certain chapters more than others because of where my interests lie. I liked the ones about how infants pick up language and how they figure out which of the things they hear are words (super interesting), and the one about the brain and how it processes language (I'm always fascinated by brain stuff). All in all, this is mandatory for all the language/archeology geeks out there (even better if you're both) and for those who are ready to tackle a 600-page book that doesn't go easy on the science lingo and data. It is very rewarding if you give it a chance and stick with it!
💐 April reflection 💐 April was supposed to be pastels, rebirth, and new growth. Its palette was to be fresh, bright, optimistic. Instead, Saigon has been stifling under intense summer heat all month. The Recovery Agent by Janet Evanovich In anticipation of what I thought was the June release of The Kings Ransom Book 2 in the Rose series I thought I would do a quick review of book 1, The Recovery Agent which I read earlier this year. Unfortunately the release date had to be moved out to June 2025 😭. I thought I would post this anyway because I found it to be a fun read that others might want to enjoy. Gabriela Rose is a sassy no nonsense recovery agent. She knows how to get back lost items. Individuals and companies seeking lost treasures, stolen heirlooms, or missing items hire her. She’s dependable, cool under pressure, and trained in weapons of all types. Gabriela’s current job is personal, it’s for her family, whose home is going to be lost if they can’t come up with a lot of money quickly. Gabriela, inspired by a family legend sets off for Peru. The Ring of Solomon and the lost treasure of Lima is what she is looking for. Gabriela’s ex-husband, Rafer has the map that might point the way to the treasure. Problem is, he’s not about to let Gabriela find it without him. Rafer is the calm to Gabriela’s wild determination. When not bickering the two make an impressive team. This book was light and fun, with enough action to keep the storyline moving. For those that like the heat, this one is probably not for you. There is some romance but no real heat. I enjoyed this 1st installment in the Rose series and am looking forward to book #2. April reads 💐 As classes came to an end, I could feel myself getting a bit of myself back. Since moving to Ireland I’ve read the least that I’ve read in probably the past decade, and while I love this new life, I’ve missed spending time in stories. April brought what felt like a reconnection with myself, not only because I reread a favorite book of all time, but also because I just really felt locked in to my taste. Although I’m now embarking on dissertation season and desperately job searching so I can try to stay in Ireland, hopefully May will continue to bring great stories my way! #ｑｏｔｄ : Recommend me a dark, juicy read! . I love anything dark and gritty, so you won't often find me reading light books. I have a few exceptions, of course, but yeah. Darkness is my jam. If you are craving a dark apocalyptic read, I seriously recommend the Four Horsemen series by @laurathalassa . The one you can see here, Famine, is one of my faves in the series. And if you are looking for some dark academia, Nocticadia by @kerilake is just amazing. Captive Prince is another dark read if you love LGBTQ & political intrigue. . I hope your week is going well. crown of midnight (reread) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ☁️ qotd: if you were gonna reread a book right now, pretending your tbr doesn't exist, what would you choose? ☁️ continuing with my throne of glass reread ! (spoiler free) I remember loving crown of midnight the first time round and that absolutely hasn't changed 😌 it feels like we're in a more fully established fantasy world now and we start to learn more about it's history and the surrounding areas. and we get to see the characters really start to come into their own, especially celaena 🫶 and this is where the series starts heading into a more specific direction, as the first one was very much just focused on the competition. crown of midnight feels better developed, faster paced, and there's just so much more intrigue! I loved (and remember loving the first time) celaena's exploration of the library, I loved the riddles she has to solve, and the slowly building sense that something is getting ready to *happen*. basically it just takes everything that throne of glass did well and does it better. it's more suspenseful! and the action / fight scenes feel a lot more significant now they're not just based around the competition. this one is also where more of the romantasy elements start coming through, and I'm excited to see how the series develops on this front as while I can remember how it all ends up I can't remember how we get there! basically, so much of this one made me really excited to carry on with my reread. the ending! the first mentions of the witches! my vague recollections of what's to come!
