I found those so powerful. • But there’s also the refreshing times when I spend my adventures with good humans. Those are my favorite times when we can laugh and share awesome conversations and sometimes push some limits TOGETHER (not just me ALONE). Often times it’s because of others that we accomplish something awesome. But at times our ego is SO FAT and SO BIG that it blinds us and we fail to notice. 😶🌫️ 🤣 • It’s important to me to always recognize that whenever I go fast—I just won’t last. But far, and hard and amazing… is usually when I’m surrounded, supported, inspired and encouraged by others {let’s apply this concept to every aspect of our life}. • So anytime you feel empowered and strong; take a good look around you first, and then you’ll see all the ones who helped you get there. So we might be in Europe now, but I’m still weeks and weeks behind in updating you about our adventures. So here’s another from our time in Costa Rica (I’ll catch up one day!). What’s it like to walk through a Cloud Forest at night? Short answer: Wonderfully Creepy 🦇 • Long answer: Walking around the Cloud Forest in Monteverde at night, with only the light of our flashlights and the hushed sounds of our whispers, was incredible. Seeing the fog slowly drift amongst the trees, the glimmer of water droplets sliding down tangled vines, or hearing the rustle and footsteps of creatures just out of sight was exhilarating. Did we see a lot? Not particularly. Some little frogs, sleeping birds, and a tarantula baby. But it was the experience of being out there, in the wild, with the wind and rain chilling us through that, strangely, made the experience unforgettable ☔️ • P.S. we did the tour with Dulce from Monteverde Wildlife. Search for her on Google. She was awesome! 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭 and 𝐈𝐌𝐒𝐆 (Ironman St George course) —all part of “fun” training! 🏃🏽♀️💨 Running is an amazing sport that gives you the biggest high! 💥 I freaking love running & I always take the time to give thanks while I’m out there (many times on my solo glorious miles) for the privilege to be able to run. My body is holding strong and appreciates the challenge, but also appreciates the respect I give it when it needs it. Yes, running is hard and not always easy on your body; but IF ☝🏽 you learn to be SMART and to read the signs (of your body) then you know better when to push, when to hold easy and when to rest. I love being in tune like that! Mixing it up with cross training is the best and smarter approach for me. I don’t ever feel burnt out from running and I look forward to it. 😉 Quality over Quantity — is where is at! 💥 Last weekend I had a solid marathon training (19 hilly miles) at the respected IM running course which was no joke mentally and physically. I felt amazing! And today I work on my “ultra marathon training” by gaining solid elevation on 6 miles (although on roads) still so challenging —at the one and only Suncrest. #iykyk (this place humbles me every single time) but the reward was running down. I was inspired by the pro @gustav_iden on his 27km uphill training session for ST George. So I did my 10km uphill 😉—and felt so good! 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒖𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒓’𝒔 𝑯𝒊𝒈𝒉! 🏃🏽♀️💨 When you put in the work, you feel good. And when you feel good, you boost your confidence. And when you build confidence, you would want to do it again, and again! 😁 Yesterday I got to run with these two awesome ladies. We got some pretty cold miles down & out the canyon. Frozen all the time. 🥶 We basically used all our layers for most of the run cause it never felt warm (the sun don’t hit this canyon’s road til like mid March 😂) so definitely was one of those “sweaty & cold runs” But…still so good and even manage a sweet negative split on the last 7 (flat) miles. Total 17 for Boston training. YAY! 🙌🏽 In contrast to last 17 on trails it was so different (2000Ft of vert) but much gentle on the body and much warmer in the☀️. Today, getting a 2H indoor ride (St George hills) was just want I needed to build my confidence again for riding smooth & strong, and by staying on top of Zone 2! Double YAY ! 🙌🏽 YES! Sounds like a bragging post. I can assure you it’s not. Many of you can do plenty of harder stuff 😆 But the truth is that celebrating our small/big victories feels good. It’s contagious when we share it. Reminds others that THEY CAN too. Sharing it, it’s not something we need to feel ashamed or shame others for their excitement or their success. I’m not bragging about “how amazing I think I’m” 🤣 —I’m “bragging” about the fact that training for events challenges me a lot, and it never comes easy, but regardless, I believe & show up. That’s it! ⚡️ Worth mentioning that it’s not a crime to celebrate our efforts. If you accomplished something that you love and that it was difficult then by all means SHARE so we can cheer and celebrate you too! Everyone needs motivated people in our lives. That’s why I started this account a few years ago. When I lack confidence and I was full of self doubt. And in the process I’ve gained so many amazing connections with so many of you athletes/friends. 𝔽𝕣𝕚𝕐𝕒𝕪 𝕍𝕚𝕓𝕖𝕤!✌🏽 Second year and second week of our ladies cross country skiing clinic. I seriously love our Thursdays and wish I could be here every day! ❄️🤩 Learning a new sport is never easy. Especially when there’s technical skills to practice. Im still clumsy and there is lots of improvement to come. Yesterday the snow was a bit rough (icy and slushy) which makes it harder to glide, but despite a couple of fun & fast downhill crashes I still freaking love this sport. I also love the company of supportive and encouraging friends. We r learning together and our instructor is the best! @tanya__lyubarets 💜 If you ever decide to learn a new sport invite friends to come along, the process is WAY funner and keeps you humble. Your ego goes off the window 😜 plus we share all the giggles when we crash! 😂 Looking forward to more of THiS 🎿 but hope and pray we get more snow cause right now we are pretty dry (makes me sad). And whenever I start considering moving somewhere else, my heart just can’t take being away from these mountains. 🏔♥️🏔 Is hard being away from my costarican family and from my country of birth. There’re times when I feel lonely, cause there is always “those” people that try to make you feel like you don’t belong. But the truth is…I BELONG, like everyone else. This land is a gift and I don’t ever take it for granted. It’s gift to those born and raised here as much as it’s a gift for those who God led here. This is my home away from home now. Im so glad for nature and mountains that welcome you and appreciate you no matter who you are, or where you are from. They (mountains) see no skin difference or hear no accent that sounds strange to them. They ask no questions like: where do you belong? They just welcome you! Our friend @superfly.tri and her husband joined us & were so generous to take us and giving us great tips on riding on trails. We also got to ride our road bikes at this cute canyon and flush the legs after a long day (in between soccer games and long miles of running). ℍ𝕒𝕡𝕡𝕪 𝕄𝕠𝕟𝕕𝕒𝕪! —We’re here all happy that we got all of our short & long runs done and finished our month strong! 🥳 . This month was all about discovering, planning and putting into action my goals for this new year. In an effort to help the youth of our church, leaders have been establishing a plan for this year. We want our youth to pursue their goals following a plan that is both simple and effective. Applicable to adults too in their personal, work or fitness goals. Here are the steps: 🔎 Discover: What it is we want to learn, grow or achieve. Discovering NOT only wants but also needs. 🔎 Plan it: Must write it down. Why, what and how we plan to execute it. The more details the better. Using reminders and having someone to help you stay accountable is part of your planning. The goal start taking shape the minute you have a written a plan to follow. 🔎 Act on it: James 2:17 said: “faith without works is dead”— Don’t let your discovery (goal) + written plan become dead. Every day, you can make your goal count with your actions. Working on it is part of the biggest reward of any specific goal. Is the daily choices, that will make your plan work. Commitment to the everyday action is how you achieve it! 🔎 Reflection: Once you attain your goal, you can look back at what work and what didn’t work and how you make it happened. This reflection will provide you with an earned boost of confidence. You’ll see the growth during the process. And discover again that it was worth all the effort. Hence, it’ll be exciting to do it all over again with another of goal (or month). I’m using this pattern to help my teen boys and it can be use by anyone out there looking to continue setting goals for 2022! Is not too late to start. Reminds me that often times, we are fragile on our own, but gain perspective, strength & encouragement when surrounded with others who help us learn and keep us humble. I celebrate that! ✌🏽 𝕄𝕠𝕟𝕥𝕙𝕝𝕪 𝕘𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕤: coming close to the end of the month and feeling good about the BASE endurance work I have been putting in. This past week I was able to get quality time on my feet (gaining some vert + mileage) with beautiful friends up a mountain or two. Celebrated a super fun B-day and had the best time enjoying the beauty of snow and winter playing by taking it all in (videos + pics = memories). I love it and I’m not about to change that. 😉I’m always going to take the time to create memories & share it with beautiful people who are genuine & uplifting and appreciative of our time together, which is a gift! 🙏🏽 One more session of Bike + Swim this month (tomorrow) and January will be over! The traveling there was painful and a couple of my connections got canceled. Despite multiple predicaments with travel logistics even on the way back home, I’m so grateful still because time with family is always worth the effort and the sacrifice. During my time there I realized also how rich I really am, by being from such a beautiful country & warmth friendly people and by having such incredible good FAMILIA! ♥️ And now, with my heart full, I really need to get back to my routine and hopefully start training this week. —My last ten days were 100% vacation mode and eating all the yummy foods & fruits. The trail was mild in elevation so not super intense but the 80+ degrees and 90% humidity had us sweating 😅 like crazy! This place is great cause you can choose to do a short or a long hike, or offers zip lines and a coffee tour with typical old fashion houses and church. There is a really nice restaurant also with you my typical food. Super clean and they make sure everyone is following health protocol. We shared the best conversations + laughing and dancing in the best dirt in the world (porque eso no podía faltar) 💃🏽😂 My friend @framy777 (of over 30 years of friendship) is like a sister to me and so grateful that she and my brother also know each other so well. My heart is full every time I get to spend time with her and of course with my hermanito Coqui! We drove a little deeper into the country-mountain side and saw beautiful green fields views and even crossed (by car) a very sketchy suspension bridge (the locals assured us it was save) 🙈 but so great to find this somewhat hidden jewel. Made me happy! The water was cold but still perfect! -•- I can’t wait to bring my kids here. I could have spend the whole day here watching lapas in their natural habitat and hearing the sound of the nature at its best. We are being creative in our “running” as my sweet friend Jill is temporarily injured & can’t run downhill. So what do we do? We drag our sleds all the way up and bombed the down just for giggles! —Yup! Lots of “Jejejes and Aghh-hahahas” 🤣 It seriously was so much fun! A great way to play without overdoing it. Speaking of “overdoing it”… This year I’m determined to do 𝕝𝕖𝕤𝕤. Yup! Not more & not harder. Just funner and more filled of laughter & quality adventures with loves ones. The era of “look at me and how hard I can go” is so 2020 😂 —I’m over it and moving on to the next step! Making it count. Learning new things & focus on intentionality, grace and happiness. Hot- Bun-Up- Mess & PROUD OF IT! 🚴🏻♀️💨 Today was the day! I knew it was my last chance to complete the Garmin cycling challenge (Stage 4th 506 miles since October) plus the 12 days of Cycling in December Badges! They are so fun! It was a hot hard grind. But it kept me motivated for weeks (especially during winter ❄️ months) and now feeling accomplished! YAY!! 💥🔥💥 I love being able to take on a personal challenge where there is not one else to compare myself with, it’s just me doing my thing and loving it (or suffering it 🥵) whatever you want to call it! 😜 Do you like taking random challenges that are just for you? I mean I know we sign up for races and all. But I’m talking about those “events” which we choose to do without paying an entry fee or expecting a medal at the end! F R I Y A Y post & throwback from Thursday! 😜 Yesterday my friend @tri_adventure_melissa drove all the way from her area (about 1 hour south) to meet me at the track. We had plan a fun workout and she was so sweet to commit and show up despite the conditions and the distance. ❄️ So how could I bailed on her right? We did ONE ☝🏽 lap around the 7inch of snow-covered track (that was hard but fun 😂), then to warm up some more we did an activation dance (naturally — did I mentioned we were freezing and needed a longer warm up?) 🥶 But since we don’t quit that easy we head out to a different area with no snow on the trail and found a perfect “punchy” 🥊 hill where we begin our plan B. 8x hill repeats 75/80% effort 1 minute Up and then recovery down. Let me tell you, that one ☝🏽 minute felt like a 10 minute climb haha 😂 Our lungs 🫁, heart ♥️ & legs 🦵 were literally dead inside 💀 —And we think we are in shape! Ha! Maybe it was the mental challenge of pushing hard when the temps were so harsh (about 14-15 degrees feel) 🧊 But the best part of the story is that having a buddy next to you willing to do the work makes all the difference. And without a single complaint plus so MANY smiles! I love this girl and her grit and strength never cease to amaze me! Love you Melissa and thank you for coming to commiserate with me. I’m grateful for you! So happy you also met Ruby 🐾 🙏🏽 PS: we didn’t plan on matching 💖💖 —but whenever this happens I absolutely love it! And about “ those dreams” —There are times where I wish I could have control of my dreams (that ☝🏽 movie 🎥 again) so I could just fly to Zions and stay there for days! That place is so beautiful and connects me to a higher ground — if you know what I mean. I also wish I could drag my whole family to the summit, but it is so sketchy in sections and I just don’t think I could handle being a “calmed” mom and trying to make it to the top (with teenage boys and my girls) without losing my mind scared for their lives) Aghh! 🤪 Today I’m grateful not just for this place. But for good people in my circle. I love my trail sister @tarahuntsman and her adventurous spirit and beautiful smile! We are similar in many ways but also different; and that’s a good thing. 𝑫𝒂𝒚 #2: “𝑰’𝒎 𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒇𝒐𝒓” Today I give thanks for little children (my kids are taller than me now so i can’t post about them -yet) 😂 so I’m using a pic from a recent trail run I had with my friend @bek_elleco & her son Hollis! ♥️🙏🏽 But let this 📸 represent the love and gratitude I have for my job (Occupational Therapy) SpecialEd with children from 3 years of age to 15 years old. I can’t really share any photos or names, to protect their identity, of course, but is something very close to my heart ♥️ week in & week out. I’m privileged to work with these special angels and helping them learn important basic skills to cope in their lives. But let’s be honest, they (kids in general) are the ONES teaching us constantly. Right? 🧐 YES. Somedays are hard. Some days my heart ache for them and their individual struggles in this world. It’s an emotionally draining job at times and I catch myself shedding a tear or two; but I would not trade it for anything. I’m so grateful for my students and for what they teach me daily: 1. To be a little more humble, more patient, more tolerant. 2. To laugh & smile more. 3. To not take small things for granted.
