One sister is a CIA agent who ends up crashing her own family holiday in order to spy on her sister’s shady fiancé. Funny. Mysterious. Heartwarming. Sister love 👯♀️ 📕The Split 💭Now this was an interesting read. Jane gets a call from her sister asking for her to come pick her up from a bar. The story then splits in two - one follows a storyline if Jane picked up her sister and the other follows what happens when she doesn’t pick her up 🔄 Great duo storylines. Lots of secrets revealed. Mysterious. Super interesting conclusions. 🔪Happy Thriller Thursday book lovers!🔪 Today we are briefly chatting about 📚Splinter in the Blood by Ashley Dyer📚. Detective Carver and Detective Lake have spent months trying to catch a serial killer. When Carver is shot in his own home, Lake, instead of calling for help decides to rearrange the whole crime scene, take evidence and wipe off her fingerprints, making sure no one finds out she was ever present. Odd, right?! Is she somehow involved in the crime? Detective Carver survives his injuries, but does not remember what happened, nor who shot him. He seriously thinks it is all the serial killer's doing. Things get interesting when they figure out the serial killer's last victim had a connection to Detective Carver. Police start digging into the event, and soon it becomes clear that everyone is hiding secrets, not just Detective Lake. 💭 I found this story to be entertaining, and very well thought out, and written. The thought behind the serial killer's torture methods was interesting, and both detectives' characters were strong, no nonsense kind of people, which kept the intrigue throughout the book. It made the unravelling of all the details within the story a lot more difficult to predict, which I enjoyed. Twenty something guy (had to be older but didn’t look it) was shadowing the plumber I needed yesterday. While standing in my hallway by my office which is completely open to the hall, he noticed the posters for my books that I take to book fairs and asked about them. He said he’d buy one for his daughter. I was surprised to learn she was 14. I always caution parents who buy for a son or daughter that the books are adult in content, that they might be a little too adult depending on the kid. Probably talked him out of a sale, but as a parent, I’d want to know. Kind of like warning a reader about possible triggers. 📚BOOK REVIEW!📚 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Book Lovers by Emily Henry Love this book! I'm becoming increasingly in love with the enemies/rivals to lovers trope and these little rom-coms are such fun. And the dialogue is such a favorite of mine! I would reread conversations between Nora and Charlie because they just made me laugh. Also, very excellent character development and growth. The number of relationship and personal healing taking place was a lot but done so well that it wasn't confusing nor felt like too much. I'm kinda hoping to see this on the screen one day. For once I’m actually early (or on time) in posting my monthly wrap up! Who is she? We don’t know her. 😂 . Jokes aside, this was an insane month that was drenched in story. I somehow managed to participate in #NaNoWriMo (reached 60K in 30 days!), work full time, and finish reading 10 books from start to finish. (Now I just worry that productivity is going to disappear by the end of the year…) Spending so much time lost in story made me further appreciate how magical reading and writing is. Ma and the aunties were hilarious and the situation going from bad to worse in the middle of a dysfunctional wedding AND the reappearance of Meddy’s Greatest Love of All Time…I just couldn’t put it down. Also, as a linguistic nerd, I loved the author’s letter about the language-switching and generational language loss in multilingual families. I’m ready to be destroyed... sorta 🙈 • What are books you avoid like the plague but do really want to read? • It’s Tuesday! Which means it’s a short week for me. YAYAY! This book is one of those for me. I’ve avoided this book since I bought myself a copy of it, whenever that was. It was probably a couple years ago? Maybe? Literally can’t remember. But I’ve been staring at this book for forever going I want to read you but I’m super nervous to read it. All I ever hear is “it destroys you” and part of me wasn’t ready for that. But the other part of me wanted to experience it. Weird I know. I love being destroyed. I’m just an emotional person so I cry easily all the time anyways, but I could take a sob from a book right now so I finally picked it up a bit ago. I’m over 300 pages into this 800+ page book and I’m enjoying it so much. I’m obsessed with the characters, it’s so easy to fall completely invested in their stories. I was finally pushed by @brookecannotread always talking about it and I just had to finally read it myself because I was so intrigued. Every reaction I’ve seen of this book, just made me want to read it more. So I told myself, this was going to be one of the first books I read in 2021, no matter what. So glad I’m doing so. • I literally can’t believe I’ve been consistent in the past couple days. Weird, but not. Go me! And I can finally see the growth and my posts not dying flat on their faces immediately. It feels good. I hope you’re all good. I’m a bit migraine-y today. My medicine seems to finally be kicking in after taking it before 9 which is nice. It’s another work day and dinner making day but I’ll take it I guess. I hope you had nice weekends and all. Boyfriend and I went on a walk yesterday which was nice, I saw my parents and pup this weekend too. 💕 If you're looking for an adult contemporary summer read that will stay with you long after the last page, I highly recommend SUCH A FUN AGE by @kileyreid 💕 The characters were all so well developed and real (and deeply flawed) and the book was intense, page-turning, and thought provoking. 💕 I was overjoyed to read that Kiley Reid was born the same year as I was; if this is what we have to look forward to in contemporary literature, I cannot wait! 💕 All the stars for this one! 💕 There appears to be long holds at most of our local public libraries, but the ebook is available through the iCloudLibrary at @bklynlibrary 💕
I just finished #TheUnhoneymooners by @christinalauren. It was a romcom about Mexican-American, Olive Torres, who gets to go on a free honeymoon with nemesis Ethan Thomas, after everyone else gets sick at her twin sister’s wedding. It was fast paced and laugh out loud funny. I’ll definitely be picking up more of Christina Lauren’s work.
The wonderful @my.bookworm.life was kind enough to pass on this ARC of The Switch by Beth O’Leary, as she adored it and knew that I had throughly enjoyed The Flatshare last year! We follow Eileen, who is 79 and feeling rather trapped by her quiet village life, and her granddaughter, Leena who is feeling overwhelmed by the rush of London. And so, they swap lives, homes and friends, in a bid to break out of their normal lives and find out what is really important... Oh, I adored this! It’s funny and clever and full of heart and I didn’t want it to end! It’s out next month and I’d highly recommend it! Is there an author you push everything else aside to read as soon as you get one of their books? The duo Christina Lauren is definitely at the top of my list for that! Even though this book doesn’t publish until the fall, I knew I had to read it as soon as I got it. I’m about half way through & y’all, they’ve done again!
