E, apesar de já o ter há algum tempo, adiava a sua leitura, esperando pelo momento ideal. Pois bem, abril chegou e pareceu-me uma leitura apropriada para o mês. O Retorno dá voz às famílias que abandonaram as ex colónias. Conhecemos um pouco desta realidade através de Rui que, em 1975, tinha 15 anos. Através das suas memórias, Rui leva-nos a viajar por Angola. Fala-nos do clima daquele país, das amizades, das rotinas, fala-nos de si. Contudo, a sua vida seria abalada por uma descolonização apressada. A incerteza e o medo tornaram-se recorrentes e, como tal, foi obrigado a abandonar o país em que cresceu, rumo a uma metrópole para si desconhecida. Em pouco tempo, mais de meio milhão de pessoas voltaram para Portugal. Contudo, o país não estava preparado para as receber. O discurso que, inicialmente, transmitia esperança ao assegurar diversas condições de vida, verificou-se uma fraude. A metrópole estava longe de ser o que idealizavam e necessitavam. De forma generalizada, o país falhou na integração destas pessoas. Eram rejeitadas, tratadas com desconfiança, vistas como inferiores, rotuladas como "retornadas". Jednak to co dostałam podobało mi się o wiele bardziej! Super wejście książki, od razu mnie wciągnęła tematem. Nie miałam pojęcia, że istnieje grupa osób nawiązująca korespondencję ze skazanymi na śmierć, mimo że wcześniej tych osób nie znała. I temat mnie mega pochłonął, od razu powiedziałam o tym kilku osobom, żeby się podzielić moim odkryciem 😅 No i... po 50 stronach książka odeszła od głównego tematu i mam wrażenie, że już do niego nie wróciła. Nadal pokazywała ciekawe aspekty, trochę w pigułce, ale w sumie podsyciło to moje zainteresowanie. Jednak nie da się ukryć, że miałam wrażenie, że tylko 1/4 książki jest związana z jej tytułem.. ostatnie 20 stron mnie zupełnie pogubiło 😅 trochę nie rozumiem co się tam zadziało. W sumie.. no fajny jest to reportaż, ale czuję jakiś niedosyt. Ese tipo de historia que te lleva a sentir un sin fin de emociones página tras página. Nos comparten sus momentos de felicidad, complicidad, angustia, ansiedad y duelo. Se conocen en la infancia, convirtiéndose en mejores amigos, comprometiendo su amistad mediante un contrato. HAPPY SUNDAY BESTIES! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted but I’m BAACK! The last few weeks have been a lot - between hiking through Arizona and Utah, to dealing with some personal problems and getting used to work after a big vacay - I haven’t had much time to read or do anything fun. BUT Zodiac Academy 9: Restless Stars came out on April 23rd and I finally got my hands on the paperback! I’m so so so excited (and kind of scared) to read the last book of this series. @susanne_valenti and @carolinepeckham aren’t called the Twisted Series for nothing after all. Zodiac Academy is one of my absolute favorite series ever - I read the the first seven books on Kindle Unlimited back in 2022, and had to get the physical copies as trophies because they were just that good! Also to my fellow Swifties- The Tortured Poets Department came out April 19!! What do we think? I love love love it, and have been listening nonstop. Sunday is for the Stacks! Weather is beautiful out there today so managed to get out for a run (despite some knee pain that is trying to derail my training!) We approach the deadline for Canadian taxes so that’s always enjoyable to do on a Sunday; beer in hand though so that helps. Reading highlights: Finished off John Gwynne’s Malice and loved it! I was worried about the pacing but the last 1/3 of the book absolutely crushed it. On audio I’m listening to Johann Hari’s latest book, Magic Pill, and appreciating the look into the semaglutide industry. I don’t know about you but I can’t believe these companies can just advertise to the general public about drugs they don’t even have to say what it does. Just ask your doctor…. Super Boba Cafe It’s almost national boba daaaaay~! I went to a local library author event on a whim a few months ago, and picked up a copy of this lil graphic novel. The art style is so cute and I love all the warm, vibrant colors Chanani uses! The story of Aria and her grandmother is heartwarming. I enjoyed getting to see them develop their granddaugther/grandmother relationship as the panels progressed, and their little routines like foodie girl summer are so CUTE. Some of the pacing and writing felt a bit awkwardly set at times, and I found myself continuously flipping back and forth to see if I had missed something because there would be such a drastic time leap or decision at times between panels. However, much of the characerization was endearing, and I definitely can’t wait for book 2! Men, imagine finding out you’ve never actually made your wife cum your entire marriage? How does your ego handle that? The premise of this book was really intriguing and original. Men forming a bookclub in an attempt to better understand women and become better partners through romance books. I’m a big believer that more men need to read romance because we are in a cost of loving crisis, BRING BACK REAL LOVERS!!!!!!! Amazing premise, okay execution. It was a very quick second chance romance, had some cute overly cheesy moments. Gavin was a man clearly written by a woman, it was just such an unrealistic portrayal of men, from the way he expressed his feelings (when he wasn’t plagiarising) which were overly cheesy to the stereotypical ‘locker-room’ chat. My favourite part was the book within a book. The extracts of ‘Courting the Countess’ were too good. Lyssa should consider writing historical fiction. To be honest, I hated both sisters. However, I’m going to focus on Thea’s sister, Liv was such a hater. Why would you be rooting against your sister trying to save her marriage, real enemy of progress. Literally have to rebuke such people from your life. Lyssa tried to have some serious moments about toxic masculinity, feminism, childhood trauma, etc…but didn’t really work for me personally. Death On The Nile (muerte en el nilo) by Agatha Christie review 5/5 ★ 🇬🇧 I loved this book, it’s amazing. I really liked how at the beginning the characters are introduced each one in mini-chapters to give the reader more background, and how all of them are so interesting. It was so fun the way the clues are given to the reader and how each new one makes you rethink your theories about the case over and over again. It’s a real page-turner, so engaging. And I think it’s enough to say that I was so into it in the last hundred pages that I didn’t even annotate anything. It’s an amazing book that I enjoyed a lot, and I will definitely read more of Agatha Christie’s books 🤍 • 𓂀 • 𓇇 • 🇦🇷 Amé este libro, es simplemente genial. Como introduce personaje por personaje en una especie de mini capítulos conocer como se conectan todos con la historia. Fue muy divertido como van dejándose pistas y como cada vez que se revela una nueva te hace cuestionar todo lo que ya habías teorizado sobre el caso. Es muy atrapante, creo que con decir que en las últimas 100 páginas estaba tan inmersa y entretenida que ni siquiera subrayé o marqué algo. Cześć Są czasem takie książki po które sięga się mimo to, że nie wiemy czy to historia dla nas. Zwłaszcza jeśli to drugi tom. Mieliście tak, że na przykład bohater wyznają inne poglądy i ma inną moralność przez co ta historia lekko was uwiera? *** "Ten, który zatopił świat", czyli drugi tom dylogii Świetlistego cesarza zaczynałam z dążą ostrożności. Końcówka pierwszego tomu wprowadziła mnie w stan, że nie do końca wiedziałam czy dam radę dokończyć tę historię. Wybory postaci ich zachowania no odbiegały od mojej moralności jednak historia zasługuje na to by, choć spróbować ją zakończyć. I nie zawiodłam się czuje różnice między pierwszym a drugim tomem. Otwierając tę piękną okładkę dostajemy historię, w której walka jest kwintesencją życia. Walka o miłość, walka o władzę, walka o bycie sobą. Gnająca akcja odbiera i daje pytanie tylko co? Szansę, nadzieję, a może życie… Polityczna walka, w której nie ma ustalonej waluty. Przyjaciele stają się wrogami, a sojusze są cienkie jak włos za mocno naprężone mogą pęknąć. Na szli stawia się wszystko życie, śmierć, miłość, radość, SIEBIE. A zakończenie. У роковини Чорнобильської трагедії хотіла б показати вам, можливо, не дуже відому, але дуже важливу книжку – роман Володимира Яворівського "Марія з полином наприкінці століття". Це художній твір, але водночас жива, болюча, пекуча, надривна і пронизлива хроніка катастрофи і загалом життєустрою того часу, історія, яку читач проживає через призму життя звичайних людей у тих краях. Усе, що й по сьогодні болить. Те, що не можна забувати. Цю книжку вперше мені дала почитати вчителька української літератури в школі, за що я й досі їй вдячна. Бо з тих пір багато всього читала і дивилася про Чорнобиль, але з усього саме ця історія залишила найбільший слід у душі. Це не легка література, не розважальна, але дуже людяна, і, як на мене, безсумнівно, варта часу і уваги.
