I almost never say no when the kids ask for Taco Bell. Why? Because it's the ONLY place F will actually try new things! She won't try different things at any other place. Even home is iffy. But in the last week and a half, she has tried and eaten about half of a chicken quesadilla and an entire bean burrito. (Her go to is a cheesey bean and rice burrito, a cheese roll up, and cheesey fiesta potatoes.) I'm wondering what I should get her to try next. Maybe a Mexican pizza! F loves music. And her music tastes are all over the place. Basically, if it's music in any way, shape, or form, she loves it. She has discovered Imagine Dragons completely on her own. Probably from YouTube videos. She told me today that last night, she had a dream she met them. For the hell of it, I looked up to see if they were on tour. Sure enough, they are. The closest date is 2.5 hours away from us, though. And I'm not sure she'd settle for lawn seats after dreaming about meeting them. I'm going to need to get a full time job to support this girl's music habit if she's going to actually want to go to concerts now. (She usually doesn't do well innloud crowds. But I guess she'll change that for her favorite band.) ๐ฃ The beauty about what we do with children is the ability to give them exactly what is needed at the time. I was reminded of this after a session today where the young fella I was working with had a big week of trying new things; we started off the session with high energy, but as it went on the energy was starting to lag a bit. Having sensed this I decided to quickly switch our activity to one that wasn't very demanding.... walking through mud and having hermit crab races. This change in intensity level allowed the session to not only go off with out a hitch, but the conversations we had about Roblocks, Minecraft and fishing allowed us to connect and build rapport even further. Meeting a child where they're at and creating activities and an environment that works with that, not against it, is something we're good at and happy to be able to do. ๐ ๐งฉ Last week I experienced the best service from a restaurant manager. While attending to my complaint with both professionalism and care. He acknowledged that I had a little boy that's autistic and arranged my refund in the drive thru, instead of inside the restaurant. Keston associates a switched off vehicle in an unfamiliar area with a breakdown and unless distracted, becomes distressed often resulting in continued screaming. I dislike labeling kids due to a condition and believe in, focusing on the positive things that will enhance Keston's development and manage his challenges best. Sometimes I have to decline an invite to a birthday party due to the location or attend a church service without my family and have separate outings with my kids, but in everything I continue to pray and thank God for Keston's life as he teaches me so much everyday. In 2020 Keston was diagnosed with ASD. In light of World Autism Awareness Day ๐ I would like, to encourage you, to bend the rules of society and continue to be inclusive of ASD families. Something as simple as letting a Mom with a special needs child, go ahead of you to pay for her shopped items is just one way of bending society's rules. I love that saying, ASD doesn't come with a manual it comes with a family who doesn't give up. Our journey has been tough, and finding what works best for Keston has been trial and error. World, We want to share with you that we have a son, and his name is Dominic. He is almost 3 and he is so so perfect, and he is so beautiful so charming so sweet that we still canโt believe he really belongs to us. He makes us believe in God and in magic. He doesnโt talk much, but when he does, he lights up our world... and he was recently diagnosed with autism. Today is world autism awareness day and on this day we want too share with you about Dominic and make our first step into bringing awareness about Autism! Our brave boy has been through a lot in The past 2 plus years of his young life... surgeries, an eeg, a CT scan, 100โs of blood tests since birth, 100โs of doctors appointments from ENT, hematologist, neurologist, biochemical, dermatologist, ophthalmologist, audiologist, psychiatrist, biochemical, genetics, infant development, speech language pathologist and the list goes on... heย so far been diagnosed with Autism, Anxiety disorder and possible medical PTSD....he has been through so much in his little life so far and it still continues... thankfully heโs been so strong! He is extraordinarily! Please donโt look down upon him instead treat him as you would any 35 month old! Our sweet boy deserves love not judgement please donโt compare him... he is different, he is unique, he is special, and he is perfect! I love him the way he is. He struggles, but heโs my hero. He is happy - most of the time ....he is affectionate, funny, and smart - in HIS own, special way. Continuedโฌ๏ธ

God has done A LOT of work in me and my own heart through the process of being married to an autistic-adhd man and parenting autistic-adhd children. I know that God has transformed who I am because he has changed my heart over and over - glory be. Autism initially broke me. I asked God often why and how He thought I could do this. I didn't know how. I've cried so many tears and battled so much shame. I've had to bare my soul so many times... my peace was gone... But God has used Autism to shape me, to overflow through me, & to prepare and develop me and I still have such a long ways to go. I've learned that letting Him drive the car ๐ is the only way to go and that He knows exactly what my audhd people need. He will show me, and He will guide me. I think of the scripture where the disciples asked Jesus who sinned that the man was blind and he responded... No one, this was so people would see the glory of God. I have seen Him work in my daughter, my husband, my bonus boy... and my other kids. Glory be.... I dont share a lot of their details here... because they are their own people and I don't necessarily feel ok with that... except when they give me permission.
