Calamity By Constance Fay 🎧 Narrated by: Paige Reisenfeld Series: Uncharted Hearts, Book 1 Book 58 of 2024 For me, the absolute pinnacle of science fiction content was the show Firefly. I was really hoping that I would get the same vibes with Calamity, and it absolutely met my expectations! Calamity was fun, fast paced, and filled with romance! I love the found family aspect and the simmering tension between the romantic leads. I will admit that I get bored pretty easily if there is too much “science” in my science fiction, so this felt like enough to make the world make sense but not so much that it was overwhelming. Part of what made it so bingeable for me was that there wasn’t a ton of character growth or emotional complexity. I would recommend it for when you want to binge something kind of light but with action and romance. I look forward to reading the sequel! 🎧 Paige Reisenfeld did a fantastic job bringing this book to life. Since Calamity is kind of science fiction for the romance reader, the world building and language wasn’t so complex that I had trouble following by audio. Some of the books have been on my TBR for a while now so I definitely need to make them the priority! 💭 How often do you buy books? • ALONE WITH YOU IN THE ETHER r e v i e w Wow. I love stories like this. Ones that are wildly profound and emotionally wrought. Ones that end up staying with you long after you’ve finished them, that become apart of who you are upon turning the last page, nestling themselves in that safe space in your heart. In your soul. Alone With You In The Ether was definitely one of those for me. My first Olivie Blake book and I will definitely be reading more from her!! Exquisitely written, this story explores the blossoming love between two people struggling with mental and emotional well-being, learning how to navigate the world with their unique perspectives and to love wholeheartedly despite it. This book is wholly cerebral and incredibly intelligent, angsty yet tenderhearted, and beautifully peculiar in the best kind of way. A love story that is wonderfully existential and utterly meant to be. I read this in one sitting while also listening to the audiobook and I couldn’t get enough of it. I was so happy with all the page time we got with Regan and Aldo. There’s no fluff or filler moments, just them, them, them from basically start to finish. And I loved how fresh this story felt. How never-been-done-before it was. How it held my attention like no other, effortlessly. Every minute was unexpected and beautiful and pure. The way their friendship becomes more. The way their connection begins. The way their endless conversations meander and wander and go. And my gosh, the way Aldo says I love you!!! 🫠 I’m still a little unsure of Regan’s character, but I think her and Aldo are happy together and growing together while also intentionally and consistently choosing the other and I think, in the end, that’s all that really matters. I did not expect what happened in this book! I was having such a fun time getting to know these characters. I loved their playfulness and the connection they had. It was SPICY, and I WAS HERE FOR IT! There was so much emotion put into the writing in this book. You can feel the love, the tension, the excitement, the heartache... I loved the mystery of what was going on in the house and was so curious to find out. Was it the ghost of her dead husband? Or was something more sinister going on that led to his death? You could tell something was off, but you were never really sure what was happening. I was convinced she had probably killed him. (She may or may not have, you'll have to read it to find out). This story was so much more than I expected, and I was DEVASTATED to find out what really happened. Like total shock and my heart BROKE for the characters when the twist finally hit. Can we talk about Bramble books?!? I have gotten two books from the imprint of TOR books, Bramble Romance, and I am honestly amazed. Both books I have gotten, in the Crowns of Nyaxia world by Carissa Broadbent, are beautiful. ✨ Book Review ✨ Remedial Magic By: Melissa Marr Pub. Date: February 20th, 2024 A Course in Magic #1 3.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐✨ This book is told in SIX pov's which usually seems to be too much. But the witchiness helped save it. This is a LGBTQia fantasy book. So it's probably not going to be politically correct. Seriously the infirmary sounds nice. I wish it could cure my chronic illnesses. 😝 The premise of the book is fun but there are definite flaws along the way. Ellie is a librarian, she likes to research missing people. Her Aunt Hestia disappeared for a while. Ellie tries to be boring to help prevent her own disappearance. One day at work a mysterious woman comes into the library and kisses Ellie. A magical kiss. Later on, Ellie and Hestia are driving and there are cows on the road. Ellie tries to save the cows by crashing her car. She wakes up in a strange hospital with the mysterious woman in a strange town with a strange smell. Crenshaw is a magical community with a lot of dark issues. The new witches have to go to college (classes we hardly see). If they have enough magical power they stay in Crenshaw if not they are siphoned and memories altered and back to the real world. There is a lot to unpack with this book. So much is going on and then it ends in a dark, weird way. In a Cliffhanger. So book two. I'll probably read to tie up loose ends. I'm still thinking 🤔 what did I just read. I liked it but I'm confused. I was immediately sucked into this world and couldn’t put it down. Corvina was a beautifully written character with so much complexity and heart, I really found a lot of myself in her. And Vad is THE book boyfriend; he cares so much for Verenmore and grows to care for Corvina just as much.
