Monday Top Tips The Calm Place With all the horrors that are happening in the world, perhaps connecting to our own stories of loss, grief, fear and trauma which can ignite our nervous systems—we can’t change what is happening but we can support ourselves to reduce our level of hyperarousal. Being in a calmer place allows us to recruit our wise mind, our empathy, our compassion, our capacity to give and receive love which improves our decision making. The video clip is short - so a longer version for you is in words here: Find somewhere comfortable to sit where you’ll not be disturbed. Adopt a posture that is confident, grounded and comfortable, slowly bringing a friendly expression to your face. Engage in your soothing rhythm breathing, allowing your breathing and body to slow down a little. I’d like you to think about some place you have been or imagine being that feels very calm or safe. Perhaps being on the beach or sitting by a mountain stream. Close your eyes – go back there – embellish it – be aware of what you can see, what you hear, what you can smell. Feel the air on your body. Your feet firmly anchored on the ground. As you are aware of this place what is the sensation you feel in your body, and where do you feel it. Find a name for this place a cue word like my happy place, calm place Slow tapping butterfly hug. This is your safe place. You can repeat it a number of times. Self-cue – bring up image without tapping – bring up positive feelings, sensations. Fundraiser for the charity You Raise Me Up by Dave Kiley. *not mine* Dave Kiley has signed up for a challenge known as Marathon Madness. He will run five marathons over five consecutive days between Monday 17th of June and Friday 21st of June. This fundraiser is dedicated to Ellame, a beautiful 16 year old who sadly died by suicide. Admittedly, I never met Ellame, but everything I have heard about her was that she was funny, bright, and bubbly. And very kind. My heart goes out to her family and friends 💚 The charity You Raise me Up has also helped my family a lot. I lost my 12 year old brother to suicide and the charity has provided therapy for my parents. I am soon to be working as a volunteer for their cafe in Polegate. Deshalb müssen wir uns nicht gleich Sorgen machen, wenn wir im Winter wochenlang im Dunkeln sitzen. Die gefüllten Speicher aus dem Sommer helfen uns, diese Zeit zu überbrücken. Monday Top Tips The Calm Place With all the horrors that are happening in the world, perhaps connecting to our own stories of loss, grief, fear and trauma which can ignite our nervous systems—we can’t change what is happening but we can support ourselves to reduce our level of hyperarousal. Being in a calmer place allows us to recruit our wise mind, our empathy, our compassion, our capacity to give and receive love which improves our decision making. The video clip is short - so a longer version for you is in words here: Find somewhere comfortable to sit where you’ll not be disturbed. Adopt a posture that is confident, grounded and comfortable, slowly bringing a friendly expression to your face. Engage in your soothing rhythm breathing, allowing your breathing and body to slow down a little. I’d like you to think about some place you have been or imagine being that feels very calm or safe. Perhaps being on the beach or sitting by a mountain stream. Close your eyes – go back there – embellish it – be aware of what you can see, what you hear, what you can smell. Feel the air on your body. Your feet firmly anchored on the ground. As you are aware of this place what is the sensation you feel in your body, and where do you feel it. Find a name for this place a cue word like my happy place, calm place Slow tapping butterfly hug. This is your safe place. You can repeat it a number of times. Self-cue – bring up image without tapping – bring up positive feelings, sensations.
