Smoothie bowl breakfast 🥣 🌼 2 bananas 🌼 frozen mixed bag of papaya, pineapple and mango 🌼strawberries 🌼toppings: grounded flaxseeds, hazelnuts, walnuts and chia seeds. Birth tip of the day Although it may not be in the forefront of our minds, staying hydrated and keeping energy levels up is key during labour. Labour is a massive workout on our body! It can be compared to doing a marathon! And with any exercise, we always drink and have a snack before and after. The uterus muscles are working really hard, and any muscle needs fuel to work effectively. During early labour, try to have light meals and keep having fluids. As labour establishes, this is when little and often really helps. So light snacks such as crackers, druid fruit, energy bars, nuts and seeds etc are really good options The key is to pick snacks that provide slow releasing energy so it helps to fuel your body during labour. Snacks such as sweets and chocolate are nice for the taste buds but are fast releasing energy boosts so won't last as long. I've put on slide snack suggestions. If you have gestational diabetes then you will need to be mindful of the snacks you pick and make sure they don't contain high levels of sugar. Oatcakes, popcorn, veggie sticks, wholemeal crackers all have lower sugar levels but will still provide slow releasing energy. It's always best to speak to your midwife or a nutritionist to discuss the best food options. *Extra tip!* During labour, it is very easy to forget to drink and eat, especially if you are using hypnobirthing techniques. So get your birth partner to give you sips of drink and snacks easy to feed you. Putting a straw in your drink means you can easily sip it and it is easy for your birth partner to give to you. —————————————————————— LAMB COCONUT CURRY —————————————————————— One of the best curries I’ve ever made. Fry off diced onions and garlic. Add curry powder then mix in diced Lamb. Add chopped tomatoes, light coconut milk, chickpeas and stock. Simmer for 10 minutes. Add diced sweet potato and simmer for a further 10 minutes. Then add spinach and simmer for 5 minutes. Dinner tonight. * Chicken and chorizo spaghetti with a side salad of rocket and spinach. Also garlic bread shared with Ash. * I'm a 'by eye' cooker so everything is rough but... To serve 4... *3x chicken breast *Chorizo *Onion *Garlic ** Fry together with salt and pepper *Red pepper *Basil *Paprika **Fry together until all meat is browned. Then add stock mix (below) *1x white wine stock pot *2x chicken stock cubes *A long squeeze of tomato puree **Cook for a while then add half a pot of low fat soft cheese with garlic. Warm through and reduced the sauce while pasta cooks. * Garlic bread I've been making for years, I think most people do this recipe now... Lower calorie version... Wrap, garlic puree, garlic granules, cheddar, oregano cooked in the oven for a few minutes at 200°... Hear me out. Meal prep is great, there’s no arguing with that. Whether it’s a time saver for weekday dinners, lunches in the office or you’re trying to focus on your nutrition, it really does make things easier. BUT it’s dependent on having the TIME and ENERGY to prep. Easier said than done. If you’re running around after little ones, you’re busy with work, have lots of social plans or you’re just exhausted (because life feels like that sometimes) the last thing on your to do list is to stand in the kitchen for an hour or two, dicing, slicing and mixing no matter how much you know it’s going to make other days much easier. So if you don’t have the time, the mental capacity or generally just can’t be arsed to meal prep, don’t worry about it. It’s not the be all and end all! Yesterday I was coaching a lovely client in the Group Coaching Programme. She was going on a flight and wanted help with her food plan on her holiday. She was due to be celebrating and knew she'd be wanting to eat a lot more than her usual. She knew she'd be tempted to drink champagne even though she had chosen not to drink for 2 months. She was worried she'd give in. We started coaching on her plan and she mentioned being scared of flying. She said she always drank alcohol to numb out her fear and ate lots of sweet things to distract herself. This was because several years prior, during some awful turbulence, she had been worried that she was going to die. This was not addressed by the flight staff at the time and since then, she had this fear. We coached on how she wanted to talk to herself during the flight. We roleplayed it. We talked through and practised how she would regulate her nervous system. We felt the fear and created safety to feel the fear in her body. She went away with a clear plan of how to deal with her fear. I got a message a few hours later in our Private Facebook Group and this was it. One coaching session and DECADES of terror of flying were gone!!! Imagine what 6 months of coaching will do for you.. The food and alcohol are only covering deeper issues. 100% adherence to any behaviour change programme is unusual, cos ‘life’, slipping into old habits, etc In reality what’s most important Isn’t being PERFECT it’s the ability to quickly get back onto the programme, the good habits, back on track to make progress The problem with most weight loss programmes is they only focus on weight loss ie they’re not bothered about how you FEEL. That’s why I’m constantly asking my clients : “how do you feel?” How is your sleep? What’s your energy levels like? Are you hungry? What’s your stress levels are like? Programmes that tell you’re a failure if you’re not perfect don’t support or enable you to achieve permanent change because they don’t support you when you’re less than perfect We are here to build sustainable habits 💜💚 If you haven’t build of a habit to drink water, to walk daily to exercise regularly , to have veggies and protein in each of your meal - whatever you are doing aren’t going to last …. We need to get to the habit! But to build these habits - you have to adhere to this program, you have to be self disciplined and push yourself when you don’t feel like, when your motivation isn’t there. How to do it? Only by PLANNING ! Reduce that friction. Plan everything - your workouts - your drinks in the bottle - your packed lunch - your evening meals - your snacks - your dine outs too Everything should be planned. The less chances of something to go wrong . Pls work on your habits. Habits take time to build! Once it’s a habit - it’s easy. Vivaan (my 8 year old son) came home, really excited because he made a figure out of clay, a special pot with a lid. He crafted it and painted it with so much care. He was so proud to show me. A few minutes later, my 6 year old son Veeray got hold of the clay pot's lid and broke it. It was an accident, but Vivaan was deeply upset. He was crying and said "Why do bad things happen to good people?". I hugged him and the crying soon stopped but he was still not quite himself, but he got on with his homework. Three hours later, he was still talking about how sad he was, and mentioned he thought there was something wrong with him as he previously broke another clay structure he made last year. I tried to reassure him, talking about how clay structures are delicate and may break but he didn't feel any better. Until I helped him go into his body and feel his emotion. We allowed the sadness to be there, described it and breathed into it. I helped guide him into creating the safety to feel this emotion he kept wanting to avoid. Within 2 minutes, the sadness was gone! I asked him how he felt and he said "So much better Mummy! No wonder your clients come to you, as you're really good at feeling emotions. I didn't know how to do it and you taught me so quickly!". He then hugged me for literally 5 minutes. This is a boy who doesn't hug me often, and this boy was willingly hugging me. We then had a conversation about the clay pot, and he was much more receptive, because he had felt his emotion and regulated his nervous system. This is the power of feeling your emotions. This is the power of dealing with the exact thing that leads you to numb out with food. This is the power of learning the tools and teaching your kids. You come in for weight loss but you leave with the tools to ease suffering. Your own suffering and the suffering of those around you (if they want your help). ✨How to Make Healthy Meal Prep Quick and Easy.✨ If meal prepping isn’t ever on your New Year resolutions list, then I want you to consider adding it! Meal prepping isn’t just a trendy habit. It’s one of the smartest, most efficient tools we have to help us meet our health-eating goals. It’s also good for saving time, money, and messiness. So, if you’ve been looking for some tips on how to make meal prep fast and easy… here you go! 1. Pick a Day. Choose a day and time to do your weekly meal prepping. You don’t HAVE to do a whole week at a time. But it will help to set a schedule for prepping and stick to it. 2. Build up a Routine. Make other habits in and around your meal prepping. What will you do before and after? 3. Get the Gear. This might include a slow cooker, an Instant Pot, or air fryer. A cutting board. Knives, strainers, reusable containers, etc… Whatever you’ll need consistently, but keep it to a minimum. Simplicity rules! 4. Stock the Fridge, Pantry and Freezers. Which staples will you need? Do you batch cook? I always encourage clients to batch cook and plan, it is something which definitely makes my life much easier. If we prepare a healthy lunch we won't be tempted to grab unhealthy expensive convenience food, this just becomes a vicious circle. You will not only improve your own health but you will encourage those around you, we are losing the skill and pleasure of cooking. 😳I read an article the other day with the headline 'Britons eating 50% more take aways than before COVID'. Batch cooking: 🔸Saves you time. 🔸Builds healthy habits. 🔸Reduces ultra-processed food consumption. 🔸Increases your variety of foods. 🔸Saves you money.
