Halfway through our vacation! It’s been rainy here, but that’s okay. Having a blast in the sun when it’s out, and enjoying things in moderation. I’ve been able to stay on track with my eating, blood sugars, and my exercise which has felt great and I’ve even lost a little bit of weight! Staying on track can be tricky! 🌟 Being consistent forms a habit. This makes staying on track a lot easier. Yes, there will still be times when you may find it difficult to keep consistent, life gets in the way, but the trick is to get straight back on it as soon as you can and back into the routine. 🌟 Staying on track is so much easier when you enjoy what you’re doing. If you don’t enjoy running, don’t run. Try different exercises and activities until you find something that you do enjoy. Then it becomes less of a chore and you are more likely to stick at it. 🌟 Join a class or start an activity with a loved one or friend. That way you can hold each other accountable to attending and you also have each other for support as well. Winter holidays are upon us and this time of year can be exhausting! Here are some tips to help you celebrate while still staying on track with your healthy lifestyle. 1. Lots of parties/social gatherings can lead to lots of eating and drinking. If possible, look at your calendar of events and be choosy on where and when you really want to spend your holiday time. What events will you allow yourself to indulge and have a good time, and what events can you pass on so you can stay cozy and stress free at home? 2. Be mindful on where you are eating. Fill your plate, but then walk away from the spread to find a place to sit and eat. Never snack directly from the table. Also, prioritize high fiber and high protein foods to help fill you up and stay saturated. 3. Bring your own healthy contribution to the party. If you’re unsure if the event will have foods that you can eat, ask the host if you could contribute to the festive foods! Veggie trays with yogurt and hummus dips, charcuterie board with meats, cheese, high fiber crackers and fruits are popular! 4. Limit alcohol, or avoid and try a mocktail instead. Stick with 1-2 appropriate (ideally 0-1, but let’s get real) servings per party(1 bottle/can beer, 4-5oz wine, 1 oz spirits) and drink water in between your alcoholic drinks to help slow down and also stay hydrated. Gobble gobble!🦃🌽🥔🥧🍽 Many of us will be celebrating Thanksgiving with food. Here are some healthy strategies to keep in mind so that you can still enjoy the holiday but without going overboard! 1. Weekends are less structured so we have a tendency to easily overeat. Once you've had enough food ask yourself...."do I really need more food" and "how will this make me feel after I eat it"? Give yourself 30 mins before you give into eating more food. Remove yourself from the area and distract yourself with something else. After 30 minutes, decide if you really want to eat more. If you do, own that decision and throughly enjoy guilt free. Have a great weekend and enjoy foods you love with balance!

Here’s my beautiful client Georgie ⤴️ who is now finding more freedom, enjoyment and flexibility with eating out — something she feared for a long time after recovering from her ED (recovered before we worked together) 💫 Finding that happy balance between enjoying a social life and fitness goals is something many of my clients struggle with - but at @katiejcoaching we help our clients manage this so they don’t have to avoid anything for the sake of their fitness goals. And then when they do have social occasions they know how to handle them in the best way possible with no regrets 🙌🏼 Fitness is there to fit into your life, not control it 💪🏼 So here’s some key things we look at together (NOTE — these are NOT essential to follow but can be helpful for some): 📖 Look at the menu before eating out — to help you pre plan what you’d like before getting there 🥦 Opt for nutrient dense/whole foods — lean meats, fish, salads, vegetables, whole grains, beans etc are all full of nutrients that will keep you full and satisfied 🗣 Don’t be afraid to adjust your order — Make simple swaps such as swapping chips for a salad or asking for the sauce on the side 😋 Don’t go starving — Restricting your hunger throughout the day may result in poorer choices when you’re out 🤔 Adjust meals earlier in the day — Push your first meal back a little later than usual, choose high volume/lower calorie foods, ensure you still eat an adequate amount of protein 💵 Save some calories throughout the week — If you enjoy eating more or having a drink at the weekends then adjust your plan to suit your lifestyle. As long as your overall weekly calories are what you need! 🍸 Take into account liquid calories when you’re ordering 🥳 Enjoy yourself — Social occasions should be enjoyed as part of your lifestyle and if you find yourself being too restrictive and anxious then your diet isn’t right for you! I love carbs. I love bread. I didn’t have any. I stuck with ordering from the healthy menu and loved my salad. The past two weeks I’ve been really mindful so I can enjoy our trip to Maui this week. People ask me a lot how I eat on vacations. I’ve found a few things that work for me when we are out. I’ll order something light for lunch if I want something maybe a little more heavy for dinner. Another tip, Chris and I will share something. That’s a big one for me because I never would share my food before. I’m ending today just happy to have a last minute date night with my man. Are you afraid of the scale? The food scale 😉 Do you roll your eyes when you see someone weighing their food? I used to 🙄 Before I started my journey I thought only crazy diet addicted people used food scales… Little did I know that I’d be getting myself one and that it would become a key item in my success in losing over 80lbs How many of us just pour salad dressings on our salad.. Pour oil into the frying pan for cooking without even thinking…. Heaping spoonfuls of Peanut Butter or eating bags of trail mix… How do we know what a serving size even looks like if we don’t measure it out? I used to eat Apples with Peanut Butter as a healthier choice not knowing that my heaping lump of PB was close to 3-4 servings… which added an extra 300+ calories and my healthy snack was actually not serving me at all in trying to lose weight. You don’t need to weight your food forever but it does help to learn what portions look like and helps you stay on track with your health and fitness goals. I’ve had this Blue Beauty for 3 years now and she has served me well and helped me reach my goals! I ran today. My ribs are finally good to go. I caught a small pain, but I worked through it. I walked for a minute and was good after that and went back to running. I did 15 minutes before training, too, plus this after training. I am happy so happy I can run again. That sucked not being able to run. Thanks for working with me @tyefishler9 through that. I've set myself a goal of 4-5km run every day, whether it be on the treadmill or outside. I took my run outside this morning, early and fresh. Yes I ran 4km but not just that.....I added another 4. I said good morning as I was passing someone on the sidewalk. It was my customer and fellow team member @tarav14, out for a walk. I stopped and chatted, then carried on before I got too cold. It felt great to go a distance and not worry about my speed. I will finish the goal of 120km, by the end of the month. Yesterday I woke up and did my reading goal, I drank some energize and worked till noon. I came home and needed something to lift me up and get me going again. I drank another energize, found a Hawaiian diffuser mix that brought back memories from my vacation, hopped on the treadmill and ran 4km. I then continued with a workout and felt finished, complete. I found a dry erase calender the other day and have found its helped me stay on task and keep me in check. Taking my time with what my goals may be, so I finish. What is something you should keep in mind on the big holidays? 🤔⁠ ⁠ Here is some intuitive advice when it comes to this…⁠ ⁠ 👉 Don’t indulge all day, every day - only indulge when the timing is appropriate i.e. at dinners and events 🍷🍥⁠ ⁠ 👉 Try not to eat until you can no longer move and feel ill - eat until you are full and satisfied but not completely stuffed 🥴⁠ ⁠ 👉 Enjoy every moment of it! - Most importantly, don’t let food guilt and stress override your ability to enjoy yourself 🤗⁠ ⁠ Holidays are great for taking some time out and to have some fun!
