Post run, post yoga face One of the things I love to do when I have a free morning is drop the kids to school in my running gear then head straight out for a run around the park before coming home to a good yoga practice. It feels sooo good! I love each thing separately, running makes me feel free, blows the cobwebs away and gets my heart rate going and a sweat on. Yoga then just lengthens and stretches everything out while making me feel strong and clearing my head. Sunset chaser. Current wishful sunrise chaser ๐ no but for reals- I can wake up easily at 6:30am. And going for a run before 7:30am to not catch the Miami heat weather has proven to be a struggle. I wake up, have my coffee, stretch a little and then go on an hour walk with Bruno before eating and heading to work. Thatโs been my ideal morning. But my *dream* morning is to wake up, have coffee, โจgo for a runโจ, then come back, walk Bruno, breakfast and leave for work. The challenge is in waking up earlier to have enough time for everything and running in the dark which sort of scares meโฆwhich is why Iโve grown fond of treadmills! Especially if itโs a 15-30 min run. For longer runs Iโve got my eye on sunsets or possible Saturday sunrise runs. I'm usually much more interested in hearing from and helping others. โ โ But I've had a few new followers recently so I thought I'd reintroduce myself by saying Hi and tell you a little about myself.โ โ So here we go โข๏ธ I have 10 years experience working for the NHS as a Radiographer specialising in Mammography (Breast Imaging)โ . I have a Diagnostic Radiographer degree and a Postgraduate Certificate in Mammography. It's safe to say, I really enjoy learning about the human body and find it fascinating.โ โ I recently switched careers (due to life taking me unexpectedly in a different direction) to support physically active Mum's in finding calm and balance, amongst the sometimes chaotic life of motherhood using the many wonderful benefits of yoga.โ โ My favourite ways to exercise (in no particular order) are; Running, Yoga, Strength training and Spinning.โ I talk about yoga for runners here too.โ โ I've been with my wonderful husband for 14 years, married for 7 and he's my rock, always. Iโve postponed 2 runs this week and thatโs okay. I also havenโt posted on here in almost a week and thatโs okay too. I feel like thereโs often so much pressure on us to keep going once we get into a new habit or routine and to never fail at it. Itโs such an unreasonable expectation that weโll be able to do something time and time again without a single flaw or fail. Itโs the long term progress that counts, and the small bumps along the way will only make you realise how important your habit is to you. I think weโve all seen the graph that growth isnโt linear, so while I didnโt run 3x this week like I set out to, Iโve still made progress in the right direction. While I havenโt posted in a week, Iโm still growing my platform. Minor setbacks are just that, minor. Take time to focus on yourself this week, and to acknowledge the overall amazing progress youโve been making towards your goals ๐ค if no one has told you lately, Iโm proud of you for smashing those goals!๐ฅฐ Let me know how your goals have been tracking in the comments ๐ค
So.... some of you may know. But back in the first lockdown I had started the @_couchto5k in June, it was going quite well and then I managed to break my toe in July moving on gardening furniture to do yoga. ๐ At this point I was just about to start week 4, I had really struggled with week 3 and it took me near enough the month to get through. After my injury which was six weeks out, I started again at week2 moving on to week 4 very quickly. As I was just getting into week five and going back to work I stopped again for a couple of week. I did try running again in December but due to work commitments it was making it a little impossible and the weather was rubbish. So here we are in lockdown 3000. And I started my couch to 5K again from February. Running every other day and today I am about to start week 7 ๐คฉ โend is nighโ. Canโt believe how far of I have come and so quickly. A lizard ๐ฆ who caught his tail. I absolutely love this stretch. When I first began yoga I used to always jog to the class, and whenever this one was on the menu it hit all the right spots. Runners! ๐๐พโโ๏ธ I am calling you to this post. This stretch is for you, along with many others you can find in yoga. I want you all to remember to take just as much time to warm up the body before your run and stretch after you finish. I have suffered some injuries here and there with my feet and one of my knees from regular running but I feel that Iโve helped myself avoid many more injuries from also practicing yoga. Iโve found that yoga always helped me build strength in my ankles, calves, quads and glutes to protect all those joints, as well as gave me the time to enjoy stretching in a way where I didnโt feel like I was just stretching. It was a whole other activity, world, and state of being that complemented how I felt when I ran. So, runners. Even if you arenโt up to ohm-ing, backbends, arm balances or inversions - I am here to let you know that yoga has loads to offer you too, and can add another colorful dimension to your running regimen.
