It’s only Thursday and already it’s been an awesome week. This week has taught me what togetherness means and achieves. I set up a #c25k what’s app group and we’ve all been supporting each other. Many of us have completed day 2 with tomorrow being day 3. Never did I think I’d try running but being around like minded people creates a change within me. Tonight I went out with #inschcycleclub and what an amazing group they are. So inclusive. Never end judgement on size or pace. They go at the speed of the slowest rider and encourage you up every hill. 5K OF HILLS I’ve lived in Bury for ten years now and I’m not sure I’ll ever get over how HILLY it is in places. Beautiful but brutally hilly 5K round Springwater Park with @zoed1991 to kick off May’s running. Week 1, run 3. Felt slower, didn't feel like a run as I didn't feel great, couldn't tell if I felt better or worse immediately after (answer is definitely better now). New shoes, feet felt weird and bouncy. Low drop meant my calves were burning 🔥 First couple of laps felt good, my breathing felt good even if my heart rate was higher than before. Slightly sweaty, less tomatoey. Wore the bloody jumper again as it's windy and cold. Forgot it wouldn't be cold once running. #c25k #newrunner # #couchto5k

Little progression run today, easy effort going into moderate. Naughty run coach!!! 🙈 Today was the step up in distance. Essentially, my (not so) long, long run. So I SHOULD have been taking it easy to ensure I got the distance done and without creating too much stress on my body. At km 1, cue brain 🧠... "ooh, that was a bit quick for easy, but it feels good, let's just keep going..." At km 2, "ooh, that was quicker than the first. This is definitely more tempo territory... and progressive. Feels good though... Let's just see what happens..." At km 3, "bloody hell, what was that pace? Got to just go for it now, only 200m left!" 🙈 So the "easy long" was anything but... felt SO good though. But next time, I promise to behave and really take it easy! And to think, when I started that run it was ALL going wrong... I was dreading it would hurt / be hard... I’ve been MIA for a couple of weeks. A combination of being busy at work and ramping up the homestead activity around here. • So two weigh ins since my last update. APRIL MILES RUNNING - 39 MILES WALKING - 93 MILES SWIMMING - 4,675 METRES Thirty nine miles for March - was SO tempted to get out and run one more to round it up to forty but there was no way I was risking my knee or ankle for the sake of a forty something total that literally nobody cares about. Ha. It’s still my highest monthly mileage of the year.. my highest monthly mileage since June actually. Still not run any further than a 5K but with thirteen runs I’m consistently running three times a week now.. onwards and upwards! Only three parkruns this month comprising of a revisit to Oldham then some cracking tourism at Poolbeg and Fountains Abbey. Managed three volunteering spots at juniors including another stint as RD. Week 2, run 1 Lessons learnt today 1: don't eat tea first 2: it's always worse in your head 3: it doesn't matter if it's cold to start, I don't need a fleece That was brutal. Weather doesn't look too bad does it? 🌤 Except I managed to run during the one single solitary rain shower that we got all day! 🙈 Oh well... would have been out sooner if the hound hadn't got spooked by the ice cream van being outside music blaring. He came to find me quivering as if there were fireworks going off. Good run. Tried running in my GT2000s. Ankle wasn't as keen as on the Kayanos, but will give them another try, another day. Took the hound with me for a post run cool down. Two birds and an' all that! NATIONAL WALKING MONTH 🌸 May is National Walking Month - and with the sun coming out for spring there’s no better time to start walking with us! On Tuesdays we have groups in Old Trafford, Sale, Stretford and Swinton and on Wednesdays we have an indoor walking session at the Trafford Centre. Our Swinton and Trafford Centre groups are both FREE to take part in - there’s no reason not to come and give it a go! Our walks are open to everyone - as a club we cater for all abilities and adapt our sessions to make sure they are fully inclusive. Our walks are between 1 and 2 miles. I want to say I'm super proud I got out and did this on my own today, something I'd never have done before! But I'm actually really disappointed that I gave up on myself for my run back 😓 I completed week 4 run 2 no problem, but the push back home I've been doing, just didn't happen today. Signing up for your next marathon when your legs are still sore from the last one be like... Feeling ambivalent after #madridmarathon on Sunday so signed up for my second go at #batterseaparkmarathon which is run by the magnificent @runthroughuk. Madrid was a spectacular course, loads of wonderful buildings and views and the people were so generous with their applause and encouragement. For me, better support than anywhere else I've run (and more than Barcelona). The pacemakers were similarly engaging and encouraging. But LORD the hills! At one stage I asked a fire crew if the hill I was on would level out soon. One of them shook his head sadly. On I puffed for ages only for the road to twist and steepen. I walked when an older walking gentleman started to gain on me. But I guess it's when the wheels fall off you learn something. I've never experienced that "running in treacle" feeling in a race where everything goes quiet apart from your own breathing and your vision narrows right down. There really wasn't anything left when I crossed the line. Lessons? I'd got my fuel and hydration right, taking water at every station and cramming it down with a gel or a cereal bar. There was no "wall" for me just the slow drop in pace to the inevitable "death shuffle." That can't and won't be my last experience of marathon running. So: lessons. Get my miles in before November, then ramping up to regular 20k runs then 30k and 35k long runs in the three months before Battersea. I'll be keeping up with the strength work because I sorted out a knee twinge with weighted split squats and heel raises and nary a twinge during and after the marathon. Little home Pilates sessions this month has really helped strengthen the back 🧘‍♀️ (now to keep it up) 2. Started couch 2 5k training with @obpersonaltraining 💪🏼 and my partner in crime @melanieadlem 🙌 3. Our midweek C25K homework, really trying to love this running business 🤣 in fairness Ava pushed me on every time!! These young ones are fit as fiddles 🙄🤣 4. New hair with the gorgeous @amywright_wella_queen_ delighted as always 💇🏻‍♀️ 5. We got glammed up for Paddy’s nieces communion 🤍 6. I’m no longer a margarita virgin 🍸 I like it, it like it a lot 🤣🤣 7. Rare dressed up photos these days 🤍 8. Sunrises, brightens up the early morning journeys to work 🌅 9. Long over due catch up with one of my besties @jen_power76 it’s been a year for us ❤️ 10. Our littlest baba turns 1 🎂🧸 I’m so happy the mornings and evenings are brighter! Gives you so much more incentive to do stuff! Tried out a new training partner today. He gave it his all, but also left some on the trail 💩 😂 On a more serious note - I’ve been going through a few stressful things at work and home, and while I have convinced myself that I’m handling it super well, my food diary tells a different story. I’m almost out of #ww points for the week … and my week began yesterday 😳. Trying to acknowledge this and find a different way to manage stress. Maybe a hot bath tonight. And I definitely need to get back on track with my food. At least I’m tracking it honestly, which is progress! #weightlossjourney #stresseating #c25k

What's happening? The #tuesdayrun was about six miles. The first four miles were solo fartlek and then the remaining was with the #c25k group. We are up to twenty minutes of running in the group which is pretty intense. Everyone in the group I work with is doing amazing. The running month overall was pretty solid. 153 miles total. I began incorporating speed work and tempo runs which have been going well. I need to get food consumption in check but I'm doing so gradually to avoid burnout. Or so I tell myself. The shirt of the day is for the Berlin Marathon. Someone near and dear saw me bitching and moaning about the actual race shirts and came up with this absolutely amazing design that I love. I consider this my "real" Berlin shirt.
