These are first stems I ever harvested back in March. 🌷 🌷🌷I think about this flower farming journey and it’s progression daily. I never could’ve imagined how a little soul searching could turn into this wild amazing ride. I’ve always had the drive and determination to work extremely hard but I never imagined the grit this career change would require. The very first bit of research I did on this topic lead me to order a book written by a farmer in Asheville, NC. That book has changed my life and the trajectory of my future. Tomorrow I will drive to Asheville to attend a workshop lead by the author of the book that lit the fire in me. I have no doubt I’ll be learning from the best. 👩🌾 🌻 🚜 This spring has been packed with struggles. Farming has tested my endurance and pushed my limits daily but I’ve already grown so much personally from this new way of life. I am convinced this is my path and dedicated to making this work. I can’t wait to learn what I didn’t know I didn’t know! Taking a break from the farm is so hard right now. It gives me anxiety to leave but I plan to come back refreshed and ready to implement new processes that will help me succeed. Signing books is one of my very favorite things to do. Last year for the holidays I did something different and took special inscription requests for books ordered through our shop. It was so much fun personalizing copies with heartfelt and loving messages to family, friends, and fellow flower lovers all over the world. Getting a window into the beautiful connections that people have through their shared love of flowers was such a gift. So I’ve decided to do it again! Another beautiful new daffodil that I’ve fallen in love with this year, meet Spring Bouquet. The butter yellow outer petals sparkle in the sun and encircle a vibrant orange trumpet with heavily fringed edges. More tulip spam 🥰 🌷 😉 I grew 30 different varieties plus 50 bulbs from a mixed bag. I loved every single one of them. So much that I've already ordered 200 bulbs for the next year 🤪🙈 and there will be more orders for sure...it's been a fantastic experience. It smelled as pretty as it looks. The common name “nasturtium” is translated from Latin for “nose twister.” We have two varieties growing, both from @nativenurseries. Sam eats them as he weeds. Lucía and I just smell them. We sat under the shade of the camellia tree together. A great crested flycatcher caught my eye. I had never seen one before. It held on the power line long enough for me to notice its pouty beak. This spring some of the most interesting and beautiful daffodils I’ve grown so far have come into bloom. I sourced bulbs from @phsdaffodils who offers a very special range of varieties, many extremely rare and with very unique coloring like flaming coral-red trumpets. This is a new (to me) variety called Red Passion. As the flowers age the trumpet color intensifies until the centers turn an almost watermelon red. It’s almost unbelievable!
