Still over here with a few meals the girls will eat ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜„it's a difficult one, would I like them to eat a more varied diet, yes. Would I like them to eat more fruit and vegetables?, also yes. However are they eating?, yes. Are they healthy? I would say also yes.ย  Ava chooses to have school dinners even after giving her the option of packed lunch, this is massive! She pushes herself out of her comfort during the week so will always have food she is comfortable with at home. Lilah probably has the most restricted diet, I'm hoping when she starts reception and tries school dinners with her friends it will open up more foods for her. Are your children more likely to eat and try foods with their friends? I definitely feel this is the case for Ava.

On this week's episode, me and Stacy speak with author/illustrator and mother/son duo Lynn and Jonathan Greenberg about their new children's book ROBBY THE DYSLEXIC TAXI AND THE AIRPORT ADVENTURE. We spoke about the book's protagonist, a dyslexic Taxi named (you guessed it), Robby, who due to being dyslexic, struggles to read street signs. We also discussed Jon's own journey as someone with dyslexia, and how his mother, Lynn, and their family worked to make sure he was provided with the support he needed as a child. As a mum to neurospicy kids, life can get pretty overwhelming, to say the least. I used to have anxiety, diabetes, high blood pressure, and I was constantly tired and sad. It was a daily struggle to find joy in life, and I felt like I was barely keeping my head above water. This all changed when I took the leap and signed up to work with a Coach on my health. I worked with a coach who understood my challenges and provided the support and guidance I needed to overcome my health issues and start living my best life. Working with them helped me understand the link between my mental and physical health, and taught me to create a balanced and sustainable lifestyle that supports both. It's not easy, but it's doable and the change in how I feel is worth the effort. I've learned to handle my anxiety and stress better, so I don't feel too overwhelmed by my responsibilities as a mom any more (most of the time!). Perhaps the biggest change of all has been my mindset. I now approach life with positivity and gratitude, and I can now recognize the small moments of joy that I used to overlook. I'm excited to see what the future holds. Remember, you don't have to go through this alone. There are people out there who care and want to help you succeed. Don't be afraid to take that first step towards a happier, healthier life. It's amazing what a difference it can make when you have the right support and guidance. Comment 'Coach' if you'd like to know more about the coaching programmes that helped me turn my life around. . . . . . #StressEating #AdhdNutrition #AutismMum #OverwhelmedMom #SelfCareMoms #NeuroSpicy #NeuroSpicyKids #MentalHealthForMoms #AdhdMum #Wildfit #WildfitWorks #PositiveIntelligence #PqCoach #HeroicCoach

#nofilters ! ๐ŸŒŠ The best couple of days. Much needed. Super proud of Pippi who has walked soooooo far on her walking harness in the last 2days, longer than she's ever walked before. Her hatred of dogs and birds has been kept in check (!) with constant careful manoeuvring by me. The new pool and restaurant at the campsite is lovely (rather jealous of the mummies in there drinking their espresso martinis and relaxing- sigh - never mind). Pippi chose to sit on the side of the pool or skirt the edges, but it's all building up her confidence so next time we're here hopefully she'll want to get in. โœ‹๐ŸผPART 3 - PDA AUTISM ๐Ÿคš๐Ÿผ As promised, Part 3 is here and it swan dives into PDA and its effects. Itโ€™s not an easy ride for anyone involved and I am sending strength out to all the PDAers and their parents/carers who tread these waters every day. As a parent of a PDA child (and potential PDAer myself) you can never relax. Life is made of demands and you become an expert in swerving them for the sake of regulated nervous systems. Since adopting the low demand parenting approach, life has improved significantly in our home. My son is able to learn, laugh and play. Heโ€™s made excellent progress with his reading a number work and is asking great questions. BUT for every demand he avoids, one more is placed on us, his parents. Whilst at the park today, Mia was climbing up the steps to go on the slide. Once at the top, Mia was stimming excitedly. Another little girl was watching her, and her mother removed her from the slide and told her to go and play away from her. It makes me really sad what some parents are teaching their children in this day and age. Just because Mia and many others have additional needs, it doesn't make them any less of a child.

Couldnโ€™t let this month go past without sharing thisโ€ฆ In Summer 2023 I had a complete breakdown (which I now know was an autistic shutdown). I couldnโ€™t understand what was going on or why. It felt like my brain might explode. I started private therapy (which I still go to) and Iโ€™ve unpacked a LOT. I spent my whole life feeling different. Separate from everyone else. I didnโ€™t see the world like other people. Like I had to cover up who I was and act โ€˜normalโ€™. Iโ€™ve learnt so much about myself and am on a journey of self discovery. Iโ€™m on the wait list for an assessment for ASD, and also show signs of ADHD. Since I accepted this, Iโ€™ve learnt more about myself, my traits and how to manage these. I am finally unmasking and becoming my true self. #autismacceptancemonth

On Thursday we took a little adventure to the park and duck pond. This is something new that we have never done before and I wasnโ€™t too sure how Logan would go. But just as he continues to do every day, he surprised me and really seemed to enjoy himself. He loved having so much space to explore and spent most of his time walking around just taking it all in. Recent research has shown that a significant number of parents with Autistic children experience post-traumatic stress symptoms, particularly for parents with children displaying challenging behaviours & self-harm. This is underrepresented in the clinical diagnosis statistics, with anxiety & depression more likely to be cited as explanation for symptoms experienced than PTSD (Hinde, K 2023). This depression & anxiety is a response to our nervous systems being exhausted by day to day chronic trauma. And it isn't a one off event. It is a get up & get on with it situation, whatever happened the day before. So trauma, PTSD + more trauma on top of PTSD. There is often no space to stop & treat this, and so we burn out. Your child becoming dysregulated in public, hurting themselves & possibly you, feeling unable to keep them safe whilst being the responsible adult, whilst watched by passers by, is traumatic. We all have days where we needed to stay in bed, process what has happened, have a massive loud cry, and tell someone we love all about it. This can feel impossible as a parent, particularly when the focus is helping your child manage their emotions with regards to what has happened. But we need to recover too! I don't think we talk about this anywhere near enough. Where possible,ย  always try to honour your feelings after these situations. Recovery for us can be and perhaps NEEDS to be the same as it is for them. Prioritising our own well-being means we are more able to support our children. โ€ข Acknowledge how you are feeling โ€ข Allow yourself to feel โ€ข Write it down โ€ข Talk to someone you trust โ€ข Do things that nurture you โ€ข Rest where possible โ€ข Don't be hard on yourself by berating yourself on what you should/could have done differently-you are human โ€ข Do think about what the situation has taught you & consider learning for the future Remind yourself that you're doing great in extremely difficult circumstances ๐Ÿงก #autismmum #autismfamily #autismparenti

The way you choose to look at events and experiences can have a huge effect on your mental and emotional state of mind. If you focus on the negatives, you'll feel stuck in sadness and misery and all you'll notice are the things that are going wrong in your life, the things that are unfair, and all the things that seem to be set in your path to frustrate you. If you choose to look for the positives, you'll open yourself up to happiness. I know, sounds a bit over the top doesn't it?! But it's true. If you make the decision to look out for the micro-moments of joy you'll start to notice them all over the place... a meal without a meltdown, a child asleep before 2am, the belly laugh of your child when something really entertains them. Think of it like a glass of water โ€“ is it half-empty or half-full? It's the same glass, but your perspective can change how you feel about it. The more you train yourself to focus on the positives, the more you'll start to see them everywhere.๐Ÿ‘ The next time you find yourself in a challenging situation, try shifting your focus to look for the positives. It might not be easy, but it's worth it. You'll be surprised at how much happier you feel when you choose to do this. Remember, your perspective and attitude can make all the difference to how your day goes. Keep looking for those micro moments of joy, and don't give up. If you are a parent who wants their child to have a neurodiversity-affirming IEP, these are some of the goals to get rid of. I see them on about every IEP. I also see them in many "treatment plans" from home-based providers. . What is or is not appropriate for your child is highly individual. It depends on who your child is and what is important for them at this time in development. It also depends on your parenting values and what you as a parent want to prioritize. . The bottom line is, any therapy goal needs to work for your child. It needs to consider your child's skills and the skills that are important for your child to learn. It needs to be realistic. It needs to be child-centered, i.e. it needs to serve the child. It should not be aimed at making the child more convenient or "palatable" to adults around them. Those goals are useless, and they are a waste of a child's time and energy. . #audhd #adhd #learningdifferences #learningdisabilities #invisibledisability #latediagnosedadhd #latediagnosedautistic #2e #dyslexia #ocd #autismandschool #autismcommunity #autism #asd #autismo #autismspeaks #autismmum #autismparents #depression #autismlife #anxiety #autismmom #autismdad #autismfamily #autismspectrum

Daily Autism tips When you seek out support groups and resources from parents in the context of autism, youโ€™re essentially connecting with a community that understands your journey firsthand. These groups often consist of parents who have faced similar challenges and triumphs raising children with autism. By joining these groups, you gain access to a wealth of practical advice, emotional support, and a sense of belonging. Whether itโ€™s discussing strategies for managing sensory sensitivities, sharing tips for effective communication, or simply finding reassurance in knowing youโ€™re not alone, these support networks offer a safe and understanding environment. Moreover, they can be a valuable source of information about local services, therapies, and advocacy resources tailored to the needs of families living with autism. Ultimately, seeking support from fellow parents can provide you with both the knowledge and the intimacy needed to navigate the complexities of raising a child with autism. #autismadvocate #autismspeaks #autismlife #autism #autismmum #autismacceptance #autismlove #autismfamily #autismparent #autismjourney #autismdad #autismstrong #autismworld #autismcommunity #education #learning #school #children #study #technology #support #inclusion #learning #health #motivation #healthlifestyle #motherhood #parenting

Good morning. I'm just so proud and as it got a lot of love on my stories I wanted to share it on here. This is such a big achievement for Ava. When she first started she would avoid going under the water at all costs and would jump in holding the teachers hand. Now, she finds any excuse to go under ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜„ she is still very cautious at times as anxiety is Ava's biggest hurdle but wow is she doing it ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป and she is so proud of herself ๐Ÿฅน Just need to convince Lilah to start lessons come September๐Ÿ˜„. Lilah had a trial one in February and wasn't convinced so will see again come September when she's a bit older. For me learning to swim is so important, it's such a life skill that literally saves your life. Did you know autistic children are 160 times more likely to drown compared to their neurotypical peers!
