Some plot points with Sydney's mother & her friend could have been expanded upon. Sydney was a complex individual. 🏠I think Alyssa Cole does a great job of expressing the immense anxiety that Sydney experienced due to the gentrification in her neighborhood. 🏥Overall, I think Alyssa Cole does a pretty good job of showing us that gentrification is another form of colonization and dispossession & oppression than Black people are subjected to. Here’s a last month book dump. • • • Last month I listened to strictly audio books. I did not feel like turning a page so it just made my life easier. I did enjoy the books I read. They are apart of Asia Monique’s black mafia series. I had previously read sinful vow and I loved it so I knew I had to read the other books. I read the second one then jumped to the seventh because you do not have to read them in order. I loved both of them but I really did love the last one due to intricacies of the male mc childhood,relationship with his family, and the elitism society his family lived in. The forced close proximity between the MCs (more-so forced on the woman MC 🫣) really was very interesting.
