✨ B O O K R E V I E W ✨ Title: Still Believe In Love: A Mistaken Identity Romance Author: Mycah Edwards @mycahedwardsbooks My rate: 🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎 Yasmere is a successful meteorologist who is looking for love in all the wrong men. Then she meets Xyleek, when she almost runs over him. He’s handsome, has great conversation but he’s just the dishwasher at her favorite restaurant. She wants someone who’s just as successful as her, so what can a dishwasher do for her? Xyleek is attracted to Yamere at first sight but he got something’s he’s hiding from her, he’s not exactly who she thinks he is. I really enjoyed this book and Yasmere & Xyleek’s story. At first, I was looking at Yas sideways because of how she kept writing Xy off lol but I was happy when she finally decided to give him a chance. Xy knew what he wanted and played no games to get Yas. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to give the story away but I highly recommend 🤎 #brownbooknerd #bookreview #romancenovels #booklover #wellreadblackgirl #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #readblackauthors #bookish #blackandbookish #booknerd

🧘🏿🤍Yoga off the Mat!🤍🧘🏿 Did you know yoga has EIGHT limbs and asana(poses) is only one of them!? Dhyana refers to meditation or sustained concentration. It’s the seventh limb of yoga, following Dharana (concentration). In dhyana, the practitioner focuses the mind on a single point, object, or concept, allowing thoughts to flow without attachment or distraction. This state of deep meditation leads to increased awareness, inner peace, and ultimately, self-realization. At @oosadiyawellness we offer virtual and in-person meditation services to help you get closer to your inner self! Website launching MAY 1st! Be sure to follow us! The book When Things Fall Apart has been a great tool for me to deepen my practice as well as a helpful guide on my journey towards non-attachment. Non-attachment in Sanskrit is often referred to as “Vairagya.” It’s a concept in yoga and other spiritual practices that emphasizes detachment outcomes. Vairagya involves cultivating a sense of equanimity and letting go of attachment to material possessions, relationships, and even one’s own ego. I’d love to know… What books are y’all reading right now!? • • • #livefromthechrysalis #oosadiyawellnessllc muvalovinyoga #yogainspiration #yogaeverydamnday #yogateacher #medition #semithebibliophile #bookstagram #wellreadblackgirl #blackyogi #blackgirlsdoyoga #selfcare #yogachallenge #namaste #yogajourney #selflove #yogaeverywhere #yogaofcolor #blackwomendoyoga

It all started with a poem about NYC. A Miss Joseph, at the time, was an English teacher at the Antigua Girls' High School gave her second form class the homework to write a poem. I had written one about a place my family went often as my mom had a store and would buy stock there. After Miss Joseph returned the poems, she told me that she liked my poem and that was all it took for me to start writing poetry. Over 30 years ago, lol. And it was as I was selecting poems to perform at an event that I realized that my poetry has a storytelling element. If it weren't for a teacher pointing out something at which I was good, I wouldn't have performed as a spoken word artist or written these book. All a child needs is someone to see the potential in them and give them room to grow. And Miss Joseph is one of the few teachers I remember their names. Thank you, Miss Joseph wherever you are in the world. Let me just say first of all it took way too long for me to finish this book. It’s a good read. The main character is a little bit annoying and as a mom she definitely made me mad a few times with her decisions. This was a true suspenseful story and a page turner until the end. Book of the Month: Whew, this was a wild one! Alex and Josie, two women who share the same birthday, but vastly different lives are set on a collision course when Josie latches onto Alex in hopes of making a change in her life. Alex, a successful woman allows Josie into her life against her better judgment and the chaos that ensued gave me whiplash. As the title suggests, you can’t believe any of the characters and the story is told from the perspective of a mostly unreliable narrator. Overall this was an incredibly intriguing book with lots of twists and turns. I have to be honest, I’m still a little undecided about the outcome. Even so, an excellent read. #ashleyereads #bookstagram #audiobookstagram #wellread #wellreadblackgirl #bookreview #minibookreview

♡ arc review ♡ book: Courage to Love Again author: Kimberly Brown rating: ★★★★.5 thank you to NetGalley and Black Odyssey Media for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review 🩷 • • y’all I really enjoyed this book. it definitely had its sad moments but there was so much love, kindness, and encouragement present as well. Pascha’s family and her found family are really some great people. the way they loved on her, the patience they had with her, and the grace given to her…wow. such a blessing. Callum is a GOOD. MAN. I loved him pretty early on in the book lol. he was just so real. the way he loved and cared for his family, friends, and Pascha was amazing man. he is definitely a book husband, not a boyfriend 🤣 Avyn, Tia, and Blake were such good friends to Pascha. Avyn is my girl especially though. she really took care of Pascha even when she wanted and tried to refuse it. like no girl, you’re not doing this by yourself. she was so real. and yay for her getting it together with ole dude 🤭 there’s so much I could say about this book fr but I don’t wanna spoil it lol. I would recommend this book but please check tw/cw 🤍 • • congratulations on your first traditionally published novel @authorkimberlybrown 🫶🏽

4/26/2024, 4:29:40 PM

What to say about "The House of the Spirits" by Isabel Allende❓ I finished this book several weeks ago but had to sit with it for a while before writing this review. 🤔 There are positive and negative take-aways.  The author is a gifted storyteller❗ Like Ms Allende's other novels, this one does include some  magical realism - which can be fun and/or interesting to play with in your mind. 🪄🔮 This novel  grabbed me early on and I was excited to see where it would go. ✨ Then ... it lost me. 🫤 I love a story that takes me through multiple generations of a family - and this did that. 👍 There were certain characters that I wanted to know more about.  I also enjoy reading books set in places that I am unfamiliar with. This one is (presumably) set in Chile and does include some political drama which I also like. 👍 The big problem was that none of the characters (who stuck around) were likeable or relatable. 💩 And the book lacked any sort of joy. 😖 If it's going to be sad, at least let me feel sad FOR someone. 🥴 I slogged through the last half hoping that it would turn around but it was not uplifting in any way. 😡 On one hand, I am glad that I read it - But I'm also glad that I got it for free from the library and I was more than ready for it to be over. 🏁 📸: Photos are of my niece. It's not super easy to get a 2 year old to execute your creative vision, but I love all these pictures. 😂🥰 . . . #TheHouseOfTheSpirits #readersofinstagram #bookworld #readstagram #instaread #booksbooksbook  #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookish #bibliophile  #reader  #bookblogger #fortheloveofreading #whatiread #ilovebooks #WellReadBlackGirl #ReadDiverseBooks #WomenAuthors

✨ Book Review ✨ All The Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby Pub Date: June 6, 2023 Formats: Primarily audiobook with some physical reading Listen, this was my first taste of S.A. Cosby and it didn’t disappoint. The subject matter was a little heavy at times especially for someone who works with kids but it was still a captivating read. I loved picturing Titus coming back home and being elected sheriff in an area with such of a racist history. Like damn yall ran the only pharmacist out of town because she was black?!? (Also can we pause to talk about the fact Titus is fine AF. I just know it in my heart!😂😏) I even was transported back to my time as a police dispatcher as we learn of the horrific school shooting and subsequent standoff with the former student. But it gets even crazier as the story unfolds. I always feel that I would be the perfect detective in another life but this story definitely threw me and I did not predict the turn of events or the final suspect. Now I HAVE to go back to read Cosby’s other books! Also can we talk about Adam Lazarre-White’s soothing voice and amazing performance on the narration as well? He did that! Rating: 4.25 out of 5 ⭐️ What thriller should I read next? Drop your recs in the comments.

The Attic Child By: @lola.jaye Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ STARS “Although my story started a certain way, it ended with love.” Y’all this story really captured my heart and my full attention. This book took me on a Journey! I listened to the audiobook last week on @everand_us when I had to drive from Florida to Virginia and back. The narrators did an amazing job bringing the story to life and also kept me entertained on the drive. This book is a historical fiction with two different timelines. This book is also told in two different POVS by the main characters Lowra and Dikembe who both experienced similar trauma. The author did an amazing job writing this book. 👌🏾 QOTD: What’s some of your favorite historical fiction books? ********* #wellreadblackgirl #historicalfiction #fiction #fictionalbooks #📚

It may be small but it's home. Living on a small island on the edge of the Atlantic, it's common to see sun seekers. Those individuals who have booked a hotel, a guest house, or a cruise to escape the winter, even if it is for a few days. So, it's no surprise when some fiction set in the Caribbean is from the outsider's POV. It shows how different the environment and culture is from what they know. But what of the people who call paradise home? In spite of the obvious differences, we are no different from those who vacation in our home island. We fall in love, fall out of love, and seek our own version of happily ever after. That is what I write and will continue to write. 💭 : Did you watch Amanda Seales interview with Shannon Sharpe last night? I enjoyed it though parts were hard to watch. Part of reauthoring our narrative is setting the record straight and I feel like she did that. Because here’s the thing, some people won’t ever like us. And it has nothing to do with us and everything to do with their own projections. *not excusing when harm is caused* Which leads me to this dope short story collection I highly recommend ! “Weird Black Girls” is an entrancing collection of seven short stories that challenge conventional storytelling, offering a fresh perspective on the Black experience through a lens that’s both unflinchingly honest and fantastically creative. Cotman’s stories are a testament to his skill in creating narratives that challenge, incite, and entertain, leaving readers spellbound by the intricacies of the human psyche and the nuances of Black identity. The strength of Cotman’s stories lies in unusual plot lines and the depth and richness of his characters. His narratives are brimming with characters who are wildly entertaining, each exuding their own idiosyncratic personalities. 👀 🤣 💃🏽 As a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cotman brings a raw authenticity to his writing, infusing his work with a vivid and palpable sense of place. His ability to craft stories that are at once eerie, imaginative, and emotionally resonant showcases his literary talent and his deep understanding of the human condition. This book took me on many an adventure and I enjoyed the ride! Shout out to you for being you in every room you enter. It gets increasingly harder and riskier to do in an often heartless world. Just never forget, to keep your heart (3 stacks 😉)! And never forget how many of us are living in our values and leading with heart! You’re never alone. New Book Alert‼️📚 (Just Finished) OURS is one of the best books, from start to finish! I absolutely enjoyed this novel and the fullness of it. The author did a brilliant job of weaving the characters together and tying up all loose ends that may have appeared. The story itself is beautifully narrated, as Ms. Abbott-Pratt never disappoints! This is most certainly a must read (or listen)! So glad I did!!! 🙌🏾 Worth EVERY page (it’s a bit on the long side!) 😉 And get this, the main character’s name is Saint!!! And, their convenient digital apps (Libby and Hoopla) make listening to audiobooks (or downloading ebooks) a breeze. 📚 Who else uses their local library to fulfill their reading needs? #readinggirl #bookcommunity #readingcommunity #bookreader #wellreadblackgirl #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #booklovers #audiobookstagram #audiobooks #audiobooklover #audiobooklistener

Book 13. Ubuntu is an African philosophy meaning “humanity towards others.” The author, who is also Desmond Tutu’s granddaughter, uses anecdotes, many from Truth and Reconciliation Commission (with the Google search), to teach about humanity and how we’re all connected in ways that allow us to practice empathy, embrace diversity, and make big impacts through small acts of kindness, respect, and understanding. Although it isn’t a book about religion, the ideas presented can be backed up with scripture. #whatismelreading

Was recommended the last book, "Black Girls Must Have It All," but was NOT informed that it was part of a trilogy🤦🏾‍♀️So, after reading the last, it took something away from the first two (which I NATURALLY had to go back and read). This is definitely NOT a series you should read out of order. 📚 Who else must complete a book series once they've started it? #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #booklover #audiobookstagram #audiobooks #audiobooklover #audiobooklistener #diversebooks #readinggirl #wellreadblackgirl #readingcommunity

It's official, #MicaiahJohnson has been added to my auto-buy/must-read anything they write author list ✨️💫 ✌🏽💗🖖🏿 @b2weird book club always brings out tens across the board for book recommendations and author love! After reading #TheSpaceBetweenWorlds I wondered how a follow up book could top it, but #ThoseBeyondTheWall does that and adds so many more layers and depth to the world and characters. The story picks up 10 years after the events in the first book with Mr Scales as the main protagonist, focusing on life in Ashton as a runner but when a friend is mysteriously killed, Mr Scales is determined to solve it which brings together an unlikely team including several characters we met previously. I had such a fun time reading, the characters were giving me all the angsty, complex, and morally grey realness, plus the audiobook narrated by Angel Pean brought such an extra vibe to the story. 💌 Huge thanks to @b2weird and @delreybooks for having me on this #b2wtours book tour! I can't wait for whatever @micaiahthewriter writes next! What author's are on your auto-buy list? .

First read of 2024, finished ✔️ So happy to be in the reading practice again. This book was so beautiful, I cried a few times. The main theme here was you might be delayed, but you will never be denied. I want to be more intentional about reading more this year. 🤞🏾 #booklover #booknerd #blackauthors #blackbookstagram #wellreadblackgirl #blackwomenwriters

♡ arc review ♡ book: Out of Office author: A.H. Cunningham rating: ★★★★ thank you to NetGalley and Afterglow for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review 🩵 • • these characters were not expecting to fall in love. both had plans and were on paths that they believed would not work together. but love doesn’t really seem to care about all of that lol. a workaholic and an ex-workaholic may not seem like the best match but these two were so obviously made for each other. the love, care, patience, and understanding that they show each other…yeah 🥹 I wasn’t a fan of Adri holding back on Gen for as long as he did with that “secret” but I can understand that he is on his healing journey and wasn’t quite okay with talking about it just yet. I do like that it didn’t lead to a third act breakup. if you know me, you may know how much I strongly dislike those lol. yay for not having one in this 🥰 make sure you take care of yourself so that you can be the best you for everyone/everything else. love on you. show up for yourself first. thank you @ A.H. for the reminder to prioritize yourself and what you need. the history lessons were also nice to have. if you aren’t familiar with either place, be ready to learn some pretty cool and interesting information! • • also, @ahcwrites you and the stories you share with us are gifts. congratulations on this latest release 🫶🏽

✨The Great Alone Book Review✨ This is a book of two halves; if the first part of the book was like the second half, this would have been my first five star read of the year! The beginning of this book was extremely slow, to the point where I considered DNFing. However, I gave The Great Alone more patience than I normally do with books, mainly because The Nightingale is one of my favourite books ever, so I couldn’t fathom the same author writing a book I couldn’t get through. And I’m so glad that my patience paid off because the second part of this book was pretty flawless! The Great Alone is a semi-autobiographical book that follows the Allbright family’s move to the Alaskan wilderness and the ensuing challenges they face there. This story had it all, from the vivid descriptions of land and its stark beauty to the depiction of the PTSD ex-army men and women face. For me, the strongest part of this book was the wonderful mother daughter relationship. The mother in this book, Cora, was a deeply flawed woman to the point where I was criticising her every move. But the character growth she showed was impeccable. She won me over in the end. I loved being able to accompany Leni (the daughter) as she came of age and learned to call Alaska her home. For a young girl, she faced so many challenges but her strength was so inspiring. I’m slowly making my way through Kristin’s work. Next up, I’ll be reading The Women (once I break my book buying ban). For now, The Great Alone is a book I highly recommend as long as you don’t mind a super slow opening. It gets 4.25🚨 Question of the Day - How long do you give a book before giving up on it?
