2024: April reads... - 😥 Wednesday's Child (2023) by Yiyun Li. A collection of short stories and a novella by the masterful Li, gathered over ten years. 9/10 - this woman can seemingly do no wrong. - ☕ Before we say goodbye (2023) by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. The 4th novel in the internationally best selling series, featuring Kawaguchi's signature heart-warm characters and wistful storytelling. Who would you visit if you could travel through time? 7/10 - 💭 The BFG (1982) by Roald Dahl. Revisited one of my childhood favourites - as endearing, whimsical and poignant as it always was. 8/10 - ⛩️ The Painted Veil (1925) by W. Somerset Maugham. 'She was a fool and he knew it and because he loved her it had made no difference.' A book about betrayal, sacrifice and trying to make amends, least of all with ourselves. 7/10 *We are discussing this for @avidreader Short On Classics Book Club in June - check the website for registration details. - 🤡 On Writing: A memoir of the craft (2001) by Stephen King. This was another revisit and well worth it. Love or hate his stories, you can't help but respect his remarkable work ethic (he's written 65 novels/ novellas, 5 non fiction books and 200+ short stories). A fascinating insight into the genesis of his complex and compelling characters and uber engaging stories. 9/10 #AvidReader #readinglist #bookclubs #stephenking #yiyunli #roalddahl #Classics

💥The Cursed Witch by @rlperezbooks 💥 (book one of the Nightcaster Chronicles) 📚 If you like strong FMC, prophecies, portals, time travel, mystery adventure, shapeshifters, vampires/demons/warlocks, banter, family loyalty, and a splash of romance then this novel is for you!! ⚔ Characters: I was captivated by how fierce and independent Brielle was for her age. She felt relatable and I enjoyed her banter with Leo. I liked how the two characters didn’t have an insta-connection and their relationship slowly developed. Do I wish they had some romance, sure, but the story was still great. I suspect the next book will have more romance. I was rooting for Riker at first because he was soooo kind and loyal to her and they shared a steamy kiss but then something happened at the 50% mark that made me change my mind. But his character redeemed himself and I then I didn’t know whether I was rooting for Riker or Leo. I guess book two will have the answers. Either way, I enjoyed the main characters and the secondary characters, and I cannot wait to see how they develop in the series. 📖 Plot: What a captivating and unique fantasy story! I am the type of person who likes to guess how the book is going to end especially when the book is laced with plot twists. However, I could not figure this book out. 😊 The mystery of figuring out the curse and what is going to happen next kept me on my toes. The pace was steady and world building was easy to follow. The foreshadowing was done well. Brielle is a 16-year-old who is born from a mother who is a witch and a father who is a warlock, however, she is showing no powers. The coven has decided that Bri is a danger to society because she could possibly be the next ‘Lilith Cursed Witch’ so they sent her through a portal to a castle run by Count Antonio de Silva in central Spain in the year 1735. As she understood it, the one cursed needs to die or else everyone else dies. No pressure!! The story follows Bri and her quest to figure out how to break the curse without alarming others that she may be the next ‘Lilith Cursed Witch.’

Finished my third book this month earlier today 💪🏼. Thank you @netgalley and @hogarthbooks for this ARC! This book is bleak but like a bad car crash, hard to look away from. The story opens up to a visceral scene, with our main character Deidre preparing to get in line outside for the water distribution. I found myself scrunching my nose, the author’s vivid depiction of Deidre’s filth and squalor and stench seeping from the page to my olfactory nerve. This story takes us to post-apartheid South Africa, where government corruption runs rampant and Deidre’s childhood home is seized and wrongfully taken. Through snippets, we uncover that her leg amputation was caused by a bomb her brother, a member of a pro-apartheid terrorist group, made that accidentally detonated. Deidre’s father, the only family member who seems to have actually taken care of her is long dead, her mother battling dementia and the ghosts from her past in a nursing home only just across the street from Deidre’s new displacement housing situation and her brother never seen from again after the night her whole life changed. This story sucks you in to this ugly, dark world - while reading this, I constantly felt like I was experiencing a gray, cold day that threatens rain. I will say I wish this story was a bit longer so that the reader could have more backstory into the atmosphere of post-apartheid South Africa and perhaps feel the tension and the revelation more. But throughout it all, I felt like I was there with Deidre, my senses engaged and my mind trying to wrap itself around the circumstances. … #netgalley #crookedseeds #kindle #arc #bookreview #bookreviewer #libros #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bibliophile #avidreader #books #

Seven Year Slip Review 💛🫧🤭✨🥹🍋 **slight spoilers** This one might be my new all time favorite. Ashley Poston knocked this novel out of the park for me. I felt like I was in that apartment watching Clementine and Iwan falling in love and I couldn’t get enough. But, this book isn’t just about romantic love. Platonic love - family love - all the love, which is what I enjoyed the most. This is a common theme throughout the book. Clementine treasured the women in her life. A girls girl kind of love. Clementine had the largest heart. The way grief is interpreted in this book brought tears to my eyes. Not just regular tears - alligator tears. It was almost as if I lost Analea too. This is the type of book that makes you think about life. Did you bump into the love of your life accidentally on the subway one time and didn’t even realize? Were you on the same trip as your best friend before you were friends? The invisible string theory in full effect here. The Seven Year Slip took me for a whirlwind of emotions. I was giddy reading Iwan’s and Clementine’s love story, sobbing at Clementine’s grief, and had happy tears for her and her girlfriends running around the city grabbing lunches and dinners and large glass of wine (just how I like it). I think everyone should dive into this one because I want to talk about it with everyone I interact with. That’s how you know it’s a good book. Also - the lemon flower tattoo? Bye. 5 ⭐️’s

⚓️Book Review⚓️ “Does It Hurt” by H.D Carlton Rating: 2/5 ⭐️ I hate to be this person, truly I do. I absolutely hate to be the bad guy who doesn’t love someone else’s art work.. but here we are. Did this hurt to keep pushing myself to finish this damn book? Yes, yes it hurt. The story line is repetitive, and one sided. The FMC and MMC are both equally ridiculous and annoying. Their “love story” was just so out to lunch it wasn’t even funny. (Don’t get me wrong, I love a good dark romance. But this was just so ridiculous and annoying I just rolled my eyes every time they were intimate) It’s a constant “I hate you so much, I never wanna see you again” 5 seconds later “Let’s f@ck” Just repeat that with like a small sliver of mystery for 432 pages. All in all, I’m more annoyed I forced myself to keep readying than just DNF’ at like 100 pages. Nobody come for me, I tried my best to write a honest review without being too negative to the author. I have liked her other works! It’s just this one that was totally not for me. . . . #bookstagram #booksta #booktok #reading #readmore #thriller #romance #adultfiction #fiction #smut #arcreader #avidreader #novel #thrillernovel #lovetoread #bookreview #books #bibliophile #readingaddict #bestseller #bookrecommendations #currentread #bookrecs #lovetoread #readwithme #bookstagrammer #suspense #suspensenovel #doesithurthdcarlton #hdcarlton

I’m recovering from my reading slump with the help of Madame Bovary, which is surprisingly entertaining. It’s reigniting my interest in classics because, in comparison to even modern novels I enjoy, classical literature excels in crafting deeply layered characters who feel familiar. Emma Bovary is no exception. I see that she gets a bad rep for being infantile and incapable of being content with what she has, but I feel zero dislike towards her. Emma seems to be too modern for 19th-century France. She’s smart and romantic. Emma’s a dreamer in a way. If she were born today, she could pursue her desires for love and intense emotion without societal scorn, freely exploring until she discovers her true self. Some reviewers judge Emma for being so dissatisfied even though she seemingly has it all. Yes: a lifetime of serving a husband whom she doesn’t love and bearing his kids. Truly, what’s there not to like? I’m only a third of the way through the novel, so my perspective may evolve, but already I understand why “Madame Bovary” is hailed as a masterpiece. Have you read this novel? What are your thoughts on the character of Emma?

📣Real talk: I wasn’t always an avid reader. I didn’t even like reading and avoided reading books at all costs. In 8th grade, I discovered that it was because I didn’t find the genre I liked. ⭐️ In freshmen year of high school, I had an amazing teacher that really brought out the reader in me. My head was always in a book. Then I took a hiatus. A long one! The number of books slowed down. After kids, I was lucky if I read 2 books a year. ⭐️ Two years ago, I read The Alchemist, followed by Atomjc Habits and then I read a spicy romance book and, well, it’s been a wild ride since! ⭐️ My goal two years ago was 12 books, one a month. I read 45, but I started in March. ⭐️ My goal last year was 50, and I surpassed that with 103!! There were a lot of late night reading sessions! ☺️ ⭐️ This year my goal is 60. I have an herbalist class I want to take, I’ve been doing yoga 🧘‍♀️ and working on my health. I wanted to give myself more rest, so I’m trying to tone in down. Which is hard because the #tbr just gets longer and longer! . . . #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #books #reader #avidreader #bookaddict #reading #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #booknerd #introvertedbookishmama #bookish #booklover #bookcommunity #ilovebooks #igreads #isntagramreads #instaread #bookobsessed #booksofinstagram #bookobsessed #readersofig #booksofig #beautifulbooks #bookishlife #readinggoals #goodreads #readinggoal

⚛ Archer's Voice by @miasheridanauthor Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 Well, really, what can I say? I went into this book thinking I would get some lovey-dovey romance novel, which it was, but I enjoyed it so much! I've seen several people say there was too much spice, but from what I read, this spice was super tame, and not much of it. I'm rating it 5/5 because this is a book I will always recommend if they need an excellent lovey-dovey goey book with spice, and honestly, I would reread it if someone asked to buddy read, and that's not something I'm usually willing to do. The characters are likable. I loved Bree and Archer. I thought Travis was an okay character and fit the story well. Maggie and Norm were the cutest, along with Anne. However, I wish Bree would have interacted more with Melanie and her sister. It's like they pop in and out of nowhere. Either way, the story was so cute, and I loved it. It's a great book to cleanse the mind and start anew. . . . #archersvoice #archersvoicebymiasheridan #bookishphotography #whattoreadnext #readallday #bookworms #bookwormproblems #bookpic #newreads #readingtime #readingisfundamental #whatimreading #bookreviewer #bookpost #tbrpile #justread #readingaddict #avidreader #readallthebooks #booksta #booksandbooks #readaholic #booksarelife #bookwormlife #amreading #readinglist #readmore #reads #currentread #booknerdigan

Book 8 of 2024 The Masquerade by Olivia Lynn Jarmusch 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I have loved every book in the Tarsurella series and this one did not disappoint. I can't talk too much about any specific plot point because it is the fifth of a series. I simply adore that although the major focus of the book may change, we never leave any family member behind. We get to hang out with each family member and get an update and see how the events are affecting them. Seeing members of the family grow as they learn who they are in Christ is wonderful. I can feel their struggles and really love every member of the family. I am excitedly anticipating the next book. There is definitely some mystery and something big afoot. I also feel like there is an unsuspecting snake in the grass so I'm curious if my prediction is correct. Only the next book will tell. I can't wait for my daughter to read them so we can talk about them together.

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 "This house has always felt full of ghosts to me—not of spirits in white sheets and chains, nothing as clichéd as all that—but of memories snatched away. Memories I’ll never be able to claim as mine.” This is a story where the light and darkness touch. Where the shadows curl around you in a comforting, deceptive caress as it lures you beyond redemption. Verity Thaumas chafes against the stranglehold placed on her by her older sister, and when opportunity knocks, she jumps at the chance to escape. At first, she is captivated by the lush, luxurious landscape she finds herself in - but all is not well in Bloem and it’s not long before Verity is plagued with nightmares, and the darkness of her new hosts begin to seep through the cracks of their sickly-sweet façade. As a character, Verity is sometimes hard to like. She's well spoken enough, but seems to take a little too much pleasure in her own suffering. She lacks serious communication skills, and her self-awareness leaves a lot to be desired. Not too much can be said about any other characters without thoroughly giving away the plot, so I'll resist, but I do wish Craig had given us a little more colour and a little more depth. That being said, the last 150 pages of this book held be riveted. One thing Craig excels at is leading her reader down one path and then cold-clocking them with a twist. The final few chapters were exceptional, and the end leaves you reeling and wanting just a few more pages. All in all, if you're looking for a gothic-flavoured spring or summer read, this would be a good one to pick up. _____ #bookstagram #bibliophile #igreads #currentlyreading #bookreview #instaread #lovetoread #booksarelife #readingisfundamental #whatimreading #bookreviewer #bookaddicts #bookpost #tbrpile #justread #bookishphotography #whattoreadnext #readallday #bookworms #booksofinstagram #bookwormproblems #bookaholic #bookpic #newreads #booknerd #readersgonnaread #bookwormlife #whatımreading #avidreader

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a very heavy emotional book. Even though it was fiction, you knew as you read it was based on true events. I felt for Vianne as she lost so many people close to her, and was still so strong. Isabelle was one of the strongest women I have ever read about. Her bravery, drive and compassion enhanced such a strength of her character. ❔ Do you enjoy historical fiction books? 𝑀𝒾𝓃𝒾 𝑅𝑒𝓋𝒾𝑒𝓌: 𝑅𝑒𝒷𝑒𝒸𝒸𝒶 𝒷𝓎 𝒟𝒶𝓅𝒽𝓃𝑒 𝒹𝓊 𝑀𝒶𝓊𝓇𝒾𝑒𝓇 ≪ °❈°≫≪ °❈° ≫≪ °❈°≫≪ °❈° ≫≪ °❈°≫≪ °❈° ≫ I first watched the 2020 film adaptation of Rebecca around a year ago. I INSTANTLY fell in love. It became one of my favorite movies of all time, and I’ve rewatched it around five times since then. So, naturally, I had to go back to its origins: a 1938 suspenseful novel of romance, mystery, and secrets. Right when I read those famous opening lines: “𝐼 𝒹𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓂𝓉 𝐼 𝓌𝑒𝓃𝓉 𝓉𝑜 𝑀𝒶𝓃𝒹𝑒𝓇𝓁𝓎 𝒶𝑔𝒶𝒾𝓃…”, I knew I was going to love this book. Through the fresh beginnings of the novel, to the muddled confusion and mystery of the middle, to the intense and secret-packed ending, Rebecca will take you through a complex and amazing journey. If you haven’t read this book or seen the 2020 film, I highly highly recommend 🥀🌙🌫️🌊 4.75⭐️ ✧ ✧ ✧ #bookstagram #rebecca #daphnedumaurier #1920s #booksbooksbooks #bookstagramgrowth #fyp #bookish #bookrecommendations #fivestarreads #bookreview #minibookreview #minireview #bookishtag #tag #bookaddict #avidreader

How many books did you read this month? 📚 I have been participating in the Spring Equinox Magical Readathon (hosted by @book_roast) this month and it was so much fun! I am already looking forward to return to Orilium for the Autumn Equinox later this year. 😍 You get to create your own fictional character and choose your own calling. I decided to make my character a Herbologist, so I had to pass Alchemy and Restoration. I also chose an additional course: Apothecary Keeper. I had to read 4 books in total to pass Alchemy, Restoration and my additional course. Apart from reading books with specific reading prompts I also had to document at least 5 different flowers online. Swipe to see the photos! 🌼 The books I read this month: 1. Alchemy: Threads that Bind - Kika Hatzopoulou. • Reading prompt: circle on the cover • Rating: 3/5 ⭐️ 2. Restoration: The Chalice of the Gods - Rick Riordan • Reading prompt: book you think could cure slumps • Rating: 5/5 ⭐️ 3. Apothecary Keeper: Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries - Heather Fawcett • Reading prompt: read two books with plants on the cover • Rating : 5/5 ⭐️ 4. Apothecary Keeper: Witch of Wild Things - Raquel Vasquez Gilliland • Reading prompt: read two books with plants on the cover • Rating: 5/5 ⭐️ Additional: 5. Ein hinreißend verruchter Gentleman - Julia Quinn (Bridgerton #6) • Rating: 3/5 ⭐️ 6. April Wrap Up 🗓️ This month has dragged compared to the others at the start of the year. It feels like months ago I was in Dorset. 😫 I read 5 books in April, which is lower than last month, but exams had to have the spotlight unfortunately. Roll on the bank holiday weekend and summer! 😂 Here’s my #AprilWrapUp: 5⭐️: -My Perfect Marriage* ~ A brilliant domestic psychological thriller crammed with twists, turns and an inundation of secrets! 😍 ~ Book Tour @bookouture, @ajcampbellauthor & @netgalley -100 Ways to fail a Driving Test and how to avoid them ~ let’s just say I took this a little too literally 😂 4.5⭐️: -Five Bad Deeds* ~ A striking psychological thriller layered with mistrustful characters and unexpected twists! 🔥 ~ Book Tour @randomthingstours, @simonandschuster and @cazzifwrites 4⭐️: -Close to Home ~ An enjoyable read in a mixed media format! 😍 ~ BR with @scilly_geek and @mynextreads 3.5⭐️: -The Four* ~ A complex and brutal piece of dark academia! 🔥 ~ @hqstories *AD-PR PRODUCT I might not have read that much this month, but I’m seeing what next month MAY bring. 😏 I’ve also got a super exciting upcoming bookish event as well. 👀❤️ At least I’ve reached 30 books this year which is a third of my yearly target! 🥳 What was your favourite read of April? 💬 Have a lovely day! 🥰 #MonthlyWrapUp #BookStack #BookLover #Bookstagram #BookBlogger #AvidReader #ReadersOfInstagram #BookWorm #BookNerd #BookTour #BookReview

Everyone has secrets, but not everyone has remorse… 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: Meghan Michaels is trying to find balance between being a single mom and working full time as an ICU nurse, when a patient named Caitlin arrives in her ward with a traumatic brain injury. They say she jumped from a bridge and plunged over twenty feet to the train tracks below. When a witness comes forward with new details about Caitlin’s fall, it calls everything they know into question. Was a crime committed? Did someone actually push Caitlin, and if so, who... and why? 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: ✔️greed ✔️betrayal ✔️revenge Kubica is a master of suspense! She ratchets up the suspense while juggling complex characters you can relate to, placed in high-stakes situations with moral complexity. You will never guess how the two storylines will converge. Ample plausible twists, well-developed characters, riveting suspense, and a fast-paced plot make this a superb thriller. The scenes in the basement and the hospital room were heart-pounding! A dazzling, knock-out, nail-biting, unputdownable psychological/medical thriller. It combines a multilayered plot, murder, unreliable narrators, and gripping suspense It had me guessing to the last page. I even dreamt about it. 💭 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝐐𝐎𝐓𝐃: Would you go to extremes to cover up a secret? 🤫

📚 HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY to Someone Saw Something by Rick Mofina! 📚 Six year old Gabriel Tanner is walking home from school with his older sister through New York City’s Central Park. He tries out a toy airplane he made and goes to retrieve it up a hill and behind some thick bushes. Charlotte is texting on her phone with her older boyfriend, but soon realizes Gabriel is missing. There are many suspects in his abduction. Gabriel’s mom is well-known journalist Corina Corado whose international reporting has gained her many enemies. However, Corina’s husband has made his share of enemies, too, in his career as a Forensic Engineer working on a controversial project. This is a fast-paced thriller and is one of those stories where all the main characters are keeping secrets, so many of them look suspicious. I saw through most of the red herrings and caught onto the clues about halfway through the story about who was behind Gabriel’s disappearance. However, I was still in suspense over what would happen and what the motive was for taking him. I had to suspend disbelief a few times, but this is an entertaining book that shows both the good and bad sides to the power of the media. Thank you to @netgalley, @htpbooks, and @_mira_books_ for the advance copy. #bookstagrammer #bookreviewer #bookreview #netgalley #htpbooks #mirabooks #thrillerbooks #thrillerfan #rickmofina #someonesawsomething #newrelease #suspensefulbook #mysterythriller #avidreader #alwaysreading #recommendedauthor

3.5/4 ⭐️ ARC Review I enjoyed Magdelena’s story. It spans many years and she faces many heartbreaking challenges. I loved the tension between her and one of the male characters. It definitely had me wanting to read more. And that cliffhanger at the end has me waiting for the next book. Severin is my fav. Dominik is okay and I ended up not liking him much toward the middle/end. I appreciate that Maggie has female friends throughout. And I love how she starts stepping in who she wants to be toward the end. It’s definitely slow burn. I wanted more spiciness but, as the first book in the series, l’m certain it’ll come. One of the scenes seemed rushed and I was unsure what happened until I went back and reread. The magic system is really interesting. I’m very curious to learn more about Weaver Magic and what other magic might be out there. I did have some questions about characters that were unanswered so we’ll see if those are answered later on in the series. Overall, I enjoyed the book and will be reading the next one, for sure! #arcreader #fantasybooklover #fantasybookrecommendations #bookrec #cozyfantasy #slowburnromance #romantasy #romantasybooks #avidreader

Okay, friends, time for me to hop on that WHAT THIS WEEK train but, obviously, I’ll do it in my own slightly distorted manner. Let’s extend it to a MONTH and let’s be real. The pretty picture above (including the Comfort & Joy’s cover that keeps messing with my head - looking at it feels like wearing my dad’s glasses) is just to express that I love my books how I love my characters: battered and broken. Without further due: What… 📖 I am reading: Cleopatra & Frankenstein, excitingly as my first Bookstagram buddy read with @coleenlikestoreadx and @oliviareadstheworld, still going although rather skeptically. Maurice is next in line, and The Barbarian Days will come later (it’s not a metaphor - this is literally the title of the book). 📺 I am watching: Masters of the Air, reminding me that I am a hopeless sucker for war dramas, strong bromances and Steven Spielberg. 🎶 I am listening to: Sufjan Stevens because I like to suffer. ✨Were the highlights: I got my BACP registration, my partner got a Global Talent visa and we didn’t drown while surfing although, if you ask me, it could have been pretty damn close. 😌I am doing: Working on something that may become a novel. Applying for my BACP Accreditation (no rest for the wicked). Running. And looking for jobs and - since today - flats. 💀I am worried about: Everything. 🌻I am grateful for: Everything, and more. Also: long days, blue skies, my friends and Meera Sodha’s recipe for a coconut dahl (hit me up if you’d like me to share, it’s life-changing). Feel free to answer any of these (or to tell me I should stop rambling). Also, how have you been?! What have you been reading?! Should I really send over that recipe??? #whatthisweek #bookstagram #booksbooksbooks #bookstagrammer #chaos #booklover #bookworm #avidreader #bookrecommendations #bookreview #queerbooks #lgbtbooks #iamunhinged #bookstagramuk

🌱 Book Review 🌱 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you @PRHAudio #prhaudiopartner for the complimentary audiobook and to @netgalley, @randomhouse, and the author for the ebook. “People don’t like to hear the truth, Mother says. It’s unkind. But they need to be strong, I say. Stronger than this, anyway. How will they ever find happiness, ever move forward in their lives, if they aren’t strong enough to hear that their mother is old?” I really enjoyed this re-issue of @annnapolitano debut book, originally published in 2004. Hello Beautiful and Dear Edward were both 5 stars for me so I was very excited to read the book that started it all. The #audiobook is read by a full cast which really helps to distinctly differentiate the characters and bring them to life in my ears. Within Arms Reach follows three generations of an Irish American family rocked by an unplanned pregnancy. I love books that deep dive into a family and lay it bare. Their quirks. Their secrets. And their demons. If you enjoyed We Are The Brennan’s then you will love this one too. The characters are well developed and their struggles are very relatable and very believable. While not quite to the level of her aforementioned titles, this was a strong debut! * * * #bookstagram #booklover #netgalley #bookreissue #annnapolitano #randomhouse #prhaudioinfluencer #audiobookstagram #audiobooks #withinarmsreach #readmorebooks #bookstagrammer #bookreviewers #bookreviewersofinstagram #igbooks #bookphotography #bookphoto #avidreader #readallday #literaryfiction #contemporaryfiction #booksaboutfamily #ctbookstagrammers #irishliterature #culturalheritage

Repost from @tiffanyvt4 • 🧡💛 Days of Wonder by Caroline Leavitt 💛🧡 🧡 About The Book: As a teenager, for a moment, Ella Fitchburg found love—yearning, breathless love—that consumed both her and her boyfriend, Jude, as they wandered the streets of New York City together. But her life was unexpectedly upended when she was accused of trying to murder Jude’s father, an imperious superior court judge, and sentenced to twenty-five years in prison. When she learns she’s pregnant shortly after sentencing, she reluctantly decides to give up the child. Ella is released after serving only six years. While she is desperate to turn the page on a new life, she can’t seem to let go of her past. With only an address as a possible lead, she moves to Ann Arbor, Michigan, determined to get her daughter back. Forced to hide her identity and complicated past and live in a constant state of deception, she finds that what she’s been searching for all along is a way to uncover and live with the truth. Yet a central mystery endures: neither Jude nor Ella can remember the events leading up to the attempted murder—that fateful night which led to Ella’s conviction. 💛 My Thoughts: I was absolutely hooked from the first page of this book! A book of motherhood and secrets, this drama was so curiosity inducing that I couldn’t stop turning the pages. 🦸‍♂️What would your superhero name be? 🦹‍♂️ I recently finished Fight Me by Austin Grossman, a sci-fi, superhero, coming of age mash up that was brilliant. Set in an alternate 2015 full of meta humans, super soldiers and time travelling villains, it pays homage to that lost Gen X whilst simultaneously being both heartfelt and action packed. Told between two timelines, the other in the early 1990s, Andrew Beekman, endowed with immense power from a magical amulet, must navigate a changing world and difficult choices with zero guidance. Fused with a mystery at its heart, it’s an impressive, well written consideration of teen angst, adult regret, moral dilemmas and superhero adventure. As ever, I’ve talked more about it on my blog but this one was a real surprise thanks to @michaeljbooks #bookreview #scifibooks

Book mail 📬 - FINALLY GOT MY HANDS ON THESE BEAUTIES!! I could not be happier, I was so envious of everyone that got "The book that wouldn't burn" all those months ago and now I own not just book 1 but book 2!!! I'm in awe of these gorgeous spredges and yes I have been non top admiring them since they arrived. Prepare yourselves to have many more pictures of these books on your feed courtesy of ME 😁 - This post is bitter sweet for me, it's my last post as a @thelockedlibrary rep as my term has come to its end! I was in two minds about reapplying but honestly, I have had 6 wonderful months with them and I want to give back, so I'll be subscribing to them for the next three months of course and continuing with content but as a paying customer! Also, I'm returning to work and life is about to get hectic 🤣 but I hope to reapply in the future!! Today is the last day to use my code OFTHEMOON ✨ - - - - - #thelockedlibrary

It's ROUND 2 of Melissa Ferguson for the week! And this time, it's her NEWEST addition to the book world! I'll start with 100% honesty, it took me a teensy bit to get in, into this book. But once I did get into it, I really enjoyed it! I wasn't a huge fan of our MMC towards the middle of the book (I mean, I think that was on purpose) - but he was just taking some of the revenge stuff a bit too far. And it really made me feel for Lavender. I know what it's like to be a genuinely good person, and still have someone(s) out there not like you for one reason for another. And not even being aware that you're having some kind of effect on someone else's life. > R E V I E W < What book most recently caused you to laugh out loud? “Grace is weighty, and it’s powerful. It can change a life and change a room, and it can also change a world.” - Kimberly Stuart in Star for Jesus (and Other Jobs I Quit) Star for Jesus (and Other Jobs I Quit) is the perfect blend of two things I love - dry self-deprecating humor and bold love for God. In Kimberly Stuart’s first nonfiction book, she explores the concept of grace - unearned, undeserved, unending. She links aspects of grace to humorous and heartfelt situations she and her family members and friends have experienced. In this way, she gives form and understanding to a completely abstract and sometimes-too-good-to-be-true belief. This book is for anyone who needs the care, compassion, and comfort of grace in a Christian context, from lifelong believers to seekers and everyone in between. Ms. Stuart’s combination of humor and sincerity make the topic of God’s grace approachable and welcoming. The ideal way for me to read this was listening to the audiobook, perfectly narrated by the author, while following along in a print copy. This required me to be fully ‘present’ while reading and let me mark many meaningful passages for future reference. My only criticism is that the author assigns male pronouns to God. I believe God is vast and above gender definitions so this was a bit distracting to me. I’m so grateful to Ms. Stuart for the opportunity to be on this book’s launch team; the pre-lease book club conversations added meaning to its content. I pray this book introduces and reminds countless people of God’s endless grace for them. ❤️

✎ Consider Me by Becka Mack ★★★★★/5 Wow, oh, wow! It's a rich, smooth story—like a cup of espresso. Consider Me is the first book in the Playing for Keeps series, and it is one of my all-time favorite romance novels. It is an absolute gem—a delightful blend of romance, passion, and humor. It is a roller coaster of emotions that I can't get off! Carter Beckett is one of the best book boyfriends I have ever read about. He embodies charm and is probably the most alluring character to grace book pages. Dressed in sophisticated attire, with an athletic physique and a charming smile, Carter Beckett is the epitome of arrogance. He is a self-centered bad-boy athlete and a ladies' man. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Olivia. Olivia Parker is an amiable teacher with a fierce spirit that belies her gentle nature. Her character is a testament to the strength and resilience of women, showcasing her ability to balance determination with compassion. She is a sweet, petite, chocolate, curly-haired wonder for Carter. Their chemistry is electrifying, and I can't wait to read glimpses of them in the rest of the series. I wholeheartedly recommend delving into the story of Olivia and Carter. It is a blend of heart-melting moments. ● #TalesandFlorals #romancebooks #romcom #considerme #beckamack #playingforkeeps #spicybooks #avidreader #readreadread #bookaccount #booksaremylife #readmorebooks #averybookishpost #readingeverywhere #lifeofabookstagrammer #readreadread #bookstagram # #ilovebooks #ilovetoread #bookcommunity #bookfeatures #bookishpost #bibliophile #bookishgirl #readersofinstagram #postitfortheaesthetic #ilovecoffee #outfitoftheday #coffeeandbooks #creativephotography #carterandolivia

I finished The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley this morning and wow. This is one of my most anticipated books of the year and I’m so lucky to have received an advanced copy (it hits shelves one week from today!). I can now reasonably say it’s one of the best books I’ve read in…possibly years? It is a puzzle box of a book - ostensibly about time travel (a niche favorite of mine) it’s also about the complexities of mixed identities, displacement (spatial, temporal, cultural), what power means in all relationships including romantic ones, colonialism, work, the “right side” of history, personal legacy, self preservation, authority, secrecy, modernism, I mean just everything? This book is about everything. Honestly I’m not sure I can break it down to the detail it requires just yet, I’m still processing. All this to say it’s an engrossing, captivating narrative and also the kind of thing you’d read in a fiction writing workshop and need to pause and sparse the sentences a few times. I have so many quotable passages - some a little overtly heavy with meaning and some just deliciously structured and cutting. I have no idea how the tv adaptation will begin to capture it, all I know is I can’t wait to read it again and I can’t wait for everyone to read it next week 🕰️ #bookstagram #fiction #theministryoftime #avidreader

But no one can protect me from Drew. The faster I run, the more he chases. The harder I struggle, the tighter his grip becomes. My enemy. My stalker. My villain. It’s wrong, but I can’t stop myself from craving his rough touch, filthy words, and the dark promise of pleasure he gives me. They say the truth will set you free, but ours didn't do that. It locked us inside the cage and tossed away the key.
