The wait for St. Peter’s was three hours long 😳 today, but we met the nicest people standing in front of and behind us in line. Good conversations definitely helped pass the time. Of course, the views of the basilica weren’t too shabby either.
Scenes from yesterday’s #wanderandroam in Rome. As we made our way to the Scala Sancta (Holy Stairs) and St. John Lateran, we dropped in at several beautiful churches, passed by the Forum and Colosseum and took in the streets scenes that make Rome so unique. Unlike 2001 when we had toddlers in tow, this time we climbed the Holy Stairs, which can only be done on your knees. They lead to the Church of Saint Lawrence in Palatio ad Sancta Sanctorum, which we missed last time around. We finished off our sight seeing for the day at St. John Lateran.

Today was an unexpected joy. The husband has drill this weekend, so it's me and the boys. Mark's and John's soccer teams both won their games this morning. Trying to find “home within myself” has been an important topic for me over the past 15 years or so. I’ve moved around a lot, found a sense of home in different people and places, and then struggled to feel like I belong in others. What I’ve learned is that that feeling of “being at home” has a lot to do with myself, accepting the way I am and living the life I want to live. It’s linked to my values - and the feeling that I can just be myself. How do you feel about this topic? What would you add to the list? The older I get the more protective I am of myself and my way of living. Time is precious and I want to use it wisely — with the people who accept, love and appreciate me the way I am. Part of that means setting boundaries but also removing myself from situations and people that make me feel like I am not good enough, judged and taken for granted. A hard lesson for someone like me who (for a long time) tried to please everyone around me. A hard but good one, because it’s been part of finding home within myself. There are many more thoughts on the concept of home in the upcoming ‘Homecoming’ issue (which as you can imagine, is a very important issue for me personally). W jak weekend Jak bardzo to pojęcie nowe i zapożyczone - świadczyć może fakt, iż moja mama zwykła mówić, iż urodziłam się w wolną sobotę! I to miałoby wyjaśniać moją niechęć do sprzątania, żmudnych prac domowych i gospodarskich. Bo weekend nie istniał jako taki. W soboty pracował tata, mama chyba już nie. Ale i tak sobotę wspominam jako dzień powszechnego sprzątania. Zryw ów obejmował cały blok. I to nieważne czy na zachodzie, czy po przeprowadzce - na wschodzie naszego kraju. Od rana znoszono dywany na trzepak i głównie chłopaki, albo ojcowie po pracy - tłukli je aż się kurzyło. Pralki dudniły i skakały w łazienkach, pranie wieszano na balkonach i w suszarniach (w piwnicach). Mamy wymyślały nam miliony niepotrzebnych zajęć: mycie łazienki, mycie podłóg (czasami i pastowanie), podlewanie kwiatków, zmianę pościeli, mycie szklanek schowanych w czeluściach szafek, układanie ubrań w szafie, wynoszenie słoików do piwnicy. A wisienką na torcie było szorowanie schodów. Bo kolejka była i zawsze było to zadanie dzieci. W sezonie wiosennym obowiązki obejmowały również obrabianie działki. Pielenie, podlewanie i potulne przytakiwanie i zachwycanie się wątłymi sadzonkami pomidorów - to był rytuał sobotnich wiosennych poranków. Podejrzewam, że moja niechęć do siania i doglądania co z tego wyrośnie, a może i macosze podejście do kwiatków na parapecie - ma swe źródła w owych działkowych pasjach moich rodziców, których nic a nic nie podzielałam. Ogólnie hasłem weekendów było „nie siedź” i nadrabianie jakichś mitycznych zaległości, na które brakowało czasu w trakcie tygodnia. Trzeba było zmęczyć się jak koń na westernie, głównie po to, by w niedzielę leżeć i odpoczywać. Bo w niedziele nie jest wstydem się lenić. W resztę dni - a i owszem! Dziś moje self-care obejmuje przede wszystkim … dbanie o wolny czas. Weekend jest od odpoczywania. What a day to remember. I had the best birthday day ever kayaking on Lake Powell and then hiking Antilope Canyon. One broken nail, multiple blisters, but who cares 😁😁😁😁 5 hours on the lake, and now I'm a pro. @lakepowellpaddleboards the best place to find a rental or guide in Page, AZ, hands down. If you are able to plan for the combo kayak with the hike, I would HIGHLY recommend that option, but any tour will be an experience to remember. Also shotout to our amazing guide, Ryan. очень простой рецепт чизкейка без выпечки у нас нет духовки в съёмной квартире, но я считаю, что нельзя без торта и свечей встречать свой день рождения чизкейк получается очень нежный, и не приторно сладкий. но жирненький) я сделала его клубничным, но можно сделать классическим / или с другими ягодами готовится супер просто и быстро ингредиенты: * песочное печенье - 250 гр * масло сливочное - 180-200 гр * сливки жирные (33%) - 350 гр * маскарпоне - 500 гр * желатин - 3 ч.л. (~15 гр) * лимонный сок (от пары долек; не знаю для вкуса это или этот ингредиент что-то делает, но я добавила)) * сахар - 50-60 гр * по желанию можно для вкуса добавить немного ванильного сахара * клубника для украшения и несколько ягод для крема * разъёмная форма приготовление: сливки убрать в холодильник, чтобы они были хорошо охлажденные печенье измельчить в блендере или насыпать в пакет и прокатать скалкой до крошки растопить сливочное масло, смешать с крошкой печенья и выложить песочно-масляную основу на дно формы. хорошо утрамбовать и распределить равномерно по дну, можно сделать небольшие бортики желатин высыпать с стеклянную миску, добавить лимонный сок и 3-4 ст ложек воды. поставить на водяную баню, пока желатин не растворится. возможно понадобиться добавить ещё пару ложек воды. туда же добавляем сахар и перемешиваем пока и он не растворится в отдельной чаше взбиваем охлажденные сливки (лучше делать это блендером / миксером). добавляем маскарпоне, тоже взбиваем. туда же можно добавить ваниль / ванильный сахар и желатиново-сахарную смесь. всё хорошо перемешиваем. я всё засушивала в блендере с лезвиями поэтому туда же кинула 4 клубники, так что крем получился слегка розовый и с клубничным вкусом. на этом моменте можно попробовать крем и добавить ещё сахара, если вам нужно сливочную смесь выливаем в форму на песочную основу, разравниваем поверхность, можно украсить ягодами / фруктами на этом этапе или потом, когда чиз застынет убираем кейк в холодильник минимум на 2 часа. он должен застыть и хорошо держать форму мне очень понравился такой простой и праздничный десерт. особенно приятно приносить его изменнику утром прямо в постель) ♥️🍓
