๐Ÿ”ฅARC REVIEW๐Ÿ”ฅ Flames of Ruin by Monique Shepherd OUT 5/21!!! Excuse me maโ€™am!!! That was not enough!!! I need so much more Drake and Cici!!! They were too hot for their own good and it felt like a tease! My girl over here testing out these dark romance waters and Iโ€™m๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปhere๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปfor๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปit๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป! Drake is the not so villain we of course will all fall in love with. He does bad things, but to bad people so that makes it okay. No red flags here! Cici is just trying to figure out who killed her parents. And itโ€™s obviously sheโ€™s the female version of Drake. They were beyond made for each other. Shado! Wow do I ever need to know more about him. What is he hiding?!?! Thankfully I donโ€™t think weโ€™ll have to wait that long to find out. Itโ€™s a fast moving spicy story that will leave you wanting so much more. I thought the fast forward was PERFECT! But stillโ€ฆ.I. WANT. Week 11, Book 11 Book Name: We Need New Names Author: NoViolet Bulawayo First things first, the characters in this book have really weird names ๐Ÿ˜… for example Bastard, Chipo, Godknows, Stina, Fraction, etc. Darling and her friends grew up in a slum town called Paradise in Zimbabwe;an irony right? where they move from street to street stealing guavas from people's trees because of hunger. Paradise is a town where hunger and poverty is seen everywhere. Children steal, little children get pregnant and have abortions like Chipo who is not more than 12 years old has been raped by her grandfather and is pregnant, etc. It is definitely not a place to raise a child. Eventually, Darling is sent to live in America with her Aunt Fostalina and her family. She experiences a huge cultural shock as life in America is totally different from that in Paradise. She is teased about her name, her hair, her accent and every other thing that makes her different from the other kids. She eventually starts to fit in and makes new friends but things at home never really change at all. I love the book because the characters are relatable. Each are young children growing up amidst chaos and difficulty. The book also had an air of sadness for me because of the poor living conditions of the people of Paradise which made me sad for the children growing up there. We need new names was definitely a good read! #thereaderscorner #novioletbulawayo #weneednewnames #readreadread #readingisfun #obsessedwithreading

๐Ÿ“•COVER REVEAL๐Ÿ“• โ€œPlay With Meโ€ by @authordldarby Out July 12th!! CARMELA SOMEONE IS TRYING TO KILL ME. FOR WEEKS, Iโ€™VE BEEN RECEIVING LETTERS AT MY CLUB WITH THE SAME WARNING: THEYโ€™RE COMING FOR ME. AND THEYโ€™RE LEAVING A TRAIL OF BODIES IN THEIR WAKE. WHEN MY EXโ€”A HIGH-PROFILE SENATORโ€”SAYS HEโ€™S FLYING IN AN EXPERIENCED DETECTIVE TO HANDLE THE CASE, THE LAST THING I EXPECT IS A COCKY, CONDESCENDING JERK WHO I CANโ€™T SEEM TO TAKE MY EYES OFF OF. ANDERSON BROOKS IS THE WORST PERSON FOR THE JOB, AND NOW WE HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER TO ATTEMPT TO LURE THE MURDERER OUT, BY PUTTING ON A SHOW AT MY EXCLUSIVE ADULT CLUB. THE LINE BETWEEN LUST AND HATE IS THIN, AND WE BLUR IT LIKE WATERCOLORS ON A CANVAS. NEITHER OF US WANTS TO WORK WITH EACH OTHER. NOW, IF WE COULD STOP ENDING UP IN BED TOGETHER, THAT WOULD BE GREAT. ANDERS I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR WOMEN WHO SELL THEMSELVES FOR MONEY. CARMELA LANE DOESNโ€™T JUST DO THATโ€”SHE RUNS AN ENTIRE UNDERGROUND ADULT CLUB FOR IT. I GET CALLED TO NEW YORK WHEN SHE STARTS GETTING THREATS FROM SOMEONE WHOโ€™S MURDERING MEMBERS OF HER CLUB. Iโ€™M SUPPOSED TO KEEP HER SAFE, BUT THE FACT THAT WE DESPISE EACH OTHER DOESNโ€™T MAKE IT EASY. NEITHER DOES THE FACT THAT WE CANโ€™T SEEM TO STOP TEARING EACH OTHERโ€™S CLOTHES OFF. WITH HER LIFE ON THE LINE, ITโ€™S A RACE TO CATCH THE KILLER. Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi ********************************** What can I say? BEST SERIES EVER!! I swear Tahereh Mafi is a genious! She managed to create the best male fictitious character aka Aaron Warner. Heโ€™s THE bad boy, hated villain that no one wants to cross but when Juliette dares to get to know him everything changes. Honestly, a 1000/5 stars rating is NOT enough to describe how well this author wrote this story. When you start you JUST. CANNOT. STOP.! I read this series last year in a matter of days! I was so obsessed with the story that even made me think that every hour I spent sleeping was a waste of my time and should have been spent reading (crazy I know!) Either way, to say I recommend this series isnโ€™t enough: you MUST read it. Trust me hardly any other book/series can compete with this series once youโ€™ve read it. #book #books #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #read #readersgonnaread #reading #obsessedwithreading #booktok #bookrecommendations #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstoread

๐ŸŽงAudiobook Review๐ŸŽง The Downfall of Us Duet by @claudia_b30 The End Of Me I have never had a book start off so sad from the get go. This book gave me all the P.S. I love you movie vibes. Needless to say I was a mess listening to the audiobook. At first I was confused about Derricks presence the book but I slowly figured out where that plot was going. To be honest this book just all around broke my effing heart. Iโ€™m not even sure how I feel about Derrick but my heart breaks for Piper and Archer. When Forever Finds Us What an amazing end to this duet. The first book wrecked me in so many ways that Iโ€™m still not recovered. This book started to put those pieces back together. It took awhile to get to the end where everyone got their HEA and the emotional rollercoaster it took us through Iโ€™m pretty sure Iโ€™ll never cover from. Iโ€™m kind of sad we never got to really know Archer. We just received the memories of him. But Iโ€™m glad he learned to love Piper again. Iโ€™ll be honest, I could have lived without Derrick lol. It was an amazing story and so well written. #audiobook #audiobooks #audiobookreview #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #audiobookstagram #obsessedwithreading #addictedtobooks #emotionalbooks #icriedthewholetime #secondchanceromance

2024 Review 051. Let Not The Deep by Mike Lunnon-Wood, narrated by John Telfer Audio duration : 11 hours 9 mins I've recently been watching Saving at Lives at Sea on BBC2, and it made me want to read this book again. This book is one of my absolute favourites, whether as an audiobook or physical book, and I never get bored of it. This is a story of heroism by a crew of 6 volunteers in an RNLI lifeboat who go to sea to save the crew and passengers of a disabled freighter when their engine fails during a storm when their cargo shifts. These 6 volunteers go to save 56 people in a 50' lifeboat not designed to take that many people. The last 30 minutes of this book are not only triumphant but also heartbreaking. You will certainly grow to love the crew of the Maeve Corrigan as they are the characters that you will become most familiar with during this story. John Telfer does a fantastic job of narrating this story and makes it easy to identify the various characters from their accents and tone of voice. I will definitely read this book in the future and listen to the book again as well. If you want a story of heroism with a fantastic cast of characters, then this book will be for you. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 050. Firearms and Fatals by Sgt Harry Tangye Page Count : 302 I first heard of this book years ago when watching a live stream between the author, Dave Wardell and author John Nichol talking about another book that John Nichol was releasing. I recently found it in a charity shop and decided to give it a go. Harry Tangye was a police officer who spent 30 years working in numerous different divisions of the police force including Armed Response and Traffic (which are the most featured in this book). Despite having several parts that were interesting and a couple that made me laugh out loud (Top Gun quotes and a flaming foot stool with a hilarious shout), this book wasn't for me and won't be one I read again in the future. I will be donating this book to a local charity at the end of the month so that they get some benefit out of it. 3.5* *** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’ซ

2024 Review 049. Star Trek Borg by Hilary Bader, narrated by John De Lancie and Howard McGillin Audio book length : 1 hour 15 minutes This is the 2nd time I've listened to this audiobook this year and never get bored of it. The performance of the various cast members makes me laugh and smile while listening to it. I will be very happy to listen to this book again in the future, but most likely won't listen to it again this year as I'm going to clear my TBR of unread audio books for the rest of this year after 1 more favourite audio book during May. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 DNF Review 06. The Silent Service #3 Seawolf class by H.Jay Riker Page Count : 416 DNF After 28 pages / 7% Unfortunately, I abandoned this book after 28 pages. The title of this series is The Silent Service with the name of a submarine class of the US Navy as well. Meaning the books should be about the submarine in the title. Unfortunately, the author (who has also written books about US Navy special forces, Navy Seals) tends to launch the book with a massive bit about a Navy SEAL team in combat and unfortunately, it got a bit old. I've decided that I won't be reading anymore of these books and will be donating them all to charity when I next have a pile of books to go.

5/11/2024, 8:51:51 PM

2024 Review 049. The Silent Service #2 Los Angeles class by H.Jay Riker Page Count : 416 This book begins with a very small sequence involving submarines before going straight into a special forces mission sequence, which lasts for quite a while. Considering this book is called The Silent Service Los Angeles class, I would have expected more submarine action than what you do get eventually. There is a lot of discussion about special forces missions and even more actual showing Navy SEALs on missions during the course of the book, while the submarine action seems to be crammed in just so the author can keep the title correct. I was planning on reading the 3 remaining books in this series, but after starting the 3rd book and finding yet another special forces opening section, decided not to and have put them on my charity donation pile. 3* *** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 047. Chinook Crew Chick by Liz McConaghy, narrated by Liz McConaghy Audiobook length : 5 hours 31 minutes Trigger warnings : PTSD, depression, suicide attempt, violence, death. I have to say that despite the fact I have trigger warnings above, I still can't recommend this book enough. Liz McConaghy has written an honest book that is not only tense at times, it is funny and at one particular point, utterly heartbreaking. Liz will know which bit I'm meaning, and all I can say is it had me in tears. The full title of this book is Chinook Crew 'Chick' : Highs and Lows of Forces Life from the Longest Serving Female RAF Chinook Force Crewmember. Most people have seen or have at least heard of the Chinook. The giant, twin rotor bladed helicopter flown by the RAF used to transport incredible loads in either its cargo hold or slung underneath it. I loved the way Liz told the story of how she decided what she wanted to do with her life and how she went about getting what she wanted. There were funny parts of this book which had me smiling and even occasionally laughing out loud especially when her RAF colleagues played tricks on her as the only female member of their squadron deployed to Afghanistan and other places. I listened to this book as an audiobook purchased with one of my audible credits and I have no problem at all, saying I would listen to the book again in the future and will certainly consider buying it as a physical book. The book is narrated by the author, which helps immensely. I would like to thank the author for writing this book and also for her service during her time in the military. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

5/11/2024, 8:43:10 PM

2024 Review 046. Ghostbusters 1 & 2 Omnibus by Richard Mueller and Ed Naha, narrated by Johnny Heller Audiobook length : 7 hours 51 minutes Having read this book as a physical book and also having listened to it a few years ago, I knew what was to come, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book again. There are differences between the original story of both Ghostbusters 1 and 2 movies which make it quite enjoyable. There are also differences with the other version of the film novelisations, which I have read, and again, this makes it a very enjoyable listen. My only issue is with the narrator of the books. Sometimes, he can make things a bit hard to understand which character is speaking, but generally, I didn't have a problem. As I currently have an audible membership, this book was included as part of that membership so it won't be one I can relisten to unless I get another membership in the future as I haven't purchased it. Still, if you like Ghostbusters and want to listen to a different version of it, then this is the one to listen to. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

5/11/2024, 8:38:46 PM

2024 Review 045. The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells Page Count : 208 I've seen the Tom Cruise film of War of the Worlds numerous times but was not particularly familiar with the original story. I was pleased when I found this book in one of my local The Works shops recently and knew that I would be reading it very soon after I purchased it. The pace of this book was great, and I enjoyed the differences between the story and the film. I will most likely read this book again in the future, but in case I don't, I enjoyed it and found it a nice diversion from the books I have been reading recently. 4* **** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

Hello, everyone. I know this is a bit late, but here is my April wrap post. I had a good reading month in April, reading and listening to an equal numeber of physical and audio books, 6 of each for a total of 12 books finished with 2 more in progress on April 30th. I'm hoping during May to actually read more physical pages than I will listen to in audio books as I think I may have burnt myself out listening to 5,212 minutes of audio books in one month. That is more than 3 days of audio books in 30 days!! I'm happy with the fact that in the last 4 months, I've managed to clear 44 books from my TBR, more than 50% of which have been new books (either physical or audio). How did you do during April ? Have we read/listened to any books the same in April or even in the past ? Here are my stats for April, including ratings : TBR on 30th April : 192 physical (100% new only), 15 audio books (100% new only) Pages Read in April : 1888 Minutes Listened in April : 5212 ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ - 9 The USS Cunningham Quintet #2 Sea Strike (Audiobook) The Warrior with Broken Wings (Physical) - 193 pages of 355 pages finished in April The Kaiju Preservation Society (Physical) - 272 pages The USS Cunningham Quintet #3 Sea Fighter (Audiobook) Drowning (Physical) - 304 pages The USS Cunningham Quintet #4 Target Lock (Audiobook) The USS Cunningham Quintet #5 Phantom Force (Audiobook) Starter Villian (Audiobook) Hazard Spectrum (Audio) ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ - None ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ - 3 Fever Crumb #1 Fever Crumb (Physical) - 301 pages Fever Crumb #2 A Web of Air (Physical) - 281 pages Fever Crumb #3 Scrivener's Moon (Physical) - 348 pages ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ - None ๐ŸŒŸ - None IN PROGRESS : The War of the Worlds (Physical) - 172 pages finished in April Ghostbusters 1&2 Omnibus (Audio)

๐Ÿ–ค Play With Me by Emily Klepp ๐Ÿ–ค โ€ข Splatterpunk - literary genre characterised by graphically described scenes of an extremely gory nature. โ€ข * MUST READ ALL (HEAVY AF) TRIGGER WARNINGS FIRST * Ms Emily Klepp is a dark, depraved, messed up, taboo author that I absolutely ADORE! While her books are filled with the darkest stuff you might ever read, she always has the absolute best justice served to all the baddies that you always want but never get. 2024 Review 044. Hazard Spectrum by Nathan Gray, narrated by Nathan Gray Audiobook length : 8 hours 26 minutes In 2018, Commander Nathan Gray became a household name among those people who follow the world of Carrier Aviation or are involved in it. What did he do ? He landed the first Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II owned by the Royal Navy onto the deck of the Royal Navy's new aircraft carrier flagship, the HMS Queen Elizabeth. This event was featured on a documentary TV series. But 16 years earlier, it was doubtful that he would become a Royal Navy pilot at all as he was involved in a terrible accident which was declared unsurvivable or barely survivable, depending on how it's looked at. Nathan goes into amazing detail about his career which was a dream for him ever since he saw a the Space Shuttle Enterprise being flown around Europe on the back of the NASA Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft in 1979. Nathan writes a fantastic book, and this is one that I will definitely listen to again. If you like stories about a lot of military flying, I recommend this book as one of the best I've ever read or listened to. Originally, I was looking at buying this book in physical form, and despite having the audiobook, I am considering it again physically. Nathan performed this audio book himself and does a fantastic job, especially on subjects that would have been very difficult to narrate as they directly involved him. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 043. Starter Villian by John Scalzi, narrated by Wil Wheaton Audiobook length : 8 hours 5 minutes OK, I will say it : I'm not a cat person most of the time, but I enjoyed this book. This was not the kind of book that I expected, especially when I got into it and began to work things out. This book is a very clever mixture of genres, including science fiction, and was surprising for me. I won't go into detail about the story plot, but I can say that you will most likely enjoy it, especially as in some places it is absolutely crazy. Wil Wheaton did a fantastic job of narrating the book. I will definitely listen to this book again in the future. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 042. Fever Crumb Series #3 Scrivener's Moon by Philip Reeve Page Count : 349 This is the 3rd and final book in the Fever Crumb series, which is a prequel to the Mortal Engines quadrilogy, which were my original introduction to this particular author's books. Unfortunately, despite hoping that this would be a much more interesting book, I found that I didn't enjoy it as much as i would with other books and it took me 5 days to finish this book, meaning it took me 14 days to finish the entire series of books. I didn't particularly like the main character again as I couldn't really get a feeling for her. There were not particularly many links to the Mortal Engines series of books in this one, while books 1&2 had a number of links to the original series of books. I won't be reading these books again and will be handing them over to a charity in the future. 3* *** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 041. USS Cunningham Quintet book 5 Phantom Force by James H.Cobb, narrated by Nicol Zanzarella Audiobook length : 18 hours 2 minutes This is the 5th and final book in the USS Cunningham Quintet, Phantom Force. This book was unavailable in the UK as a physical for a very long time after it was written only becoming available approximately 2 years after the author's death. I've got this book as a physical book but am also very glad that I purchased it is an audiobook as well. This book continues immediately after the end of the previous book (Target Lock) and Captain Amanda Garrett is at the beginning of the book in Australia preparing her ships (the SeaFighter task force) for a return to the Indonesian Archipelago to hunt down the leader of the enemy forces, the Raja Samudra (Sea King). This book bought back some characters from previous books (mostly books 1 & and 2) along with a character who hasn't been seen since book 3) and gives them to Amanda Garrett to work with again. Captain Garrett is again given all kinds of interesting new technology people to work with in a very different situation than she would have expected since she joined the navy. I really enjoyed this audio boo, and the whole series of books has been a 5* listen. Thank you to @podiumaudio for getting them produced and @nicolsharingstories for her amazing performance in these books. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 040. Fever Crumb Series #2 A Web of Air by Philip Reeve Page Count : 281 Unfortunately, once again this book wasn't as good as I would have hoped. This book began to explain where the mobile city of London came from and what would happen when it was ready, but again, I wasn't feeling the characters, especially the main character, Fever Crumb. While there were things I recognised from the later books, namely a name that was mentioned, I still wasn't particularly enthralled with the book. If I hadn't read the majority of the books in this series, I would have probably given up on the series, but as I only had 1 more book left to read I decided to finish the series. These books will be sent to a charity as soon as the series is finished and the month is over. 3* *** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 038. Fever Crumb Series #1 Fever Crumb by Philip Reeve Page Count : 301 I was really hoping I would like this book, but unfortunately, there were several elements that I didn't like including the main character, Fever Crumb. Having read the original Mortal Engines Quartet in the past, I thought would have enjoyed this book more, but I found that the main character was very unlikeable. I didn't get a good feeling for the character. The main part of this book that I enjoyed were the revelations about the creation of things that are related to the original book series and things that made me understand the linked parts more. I will most likely not read this book again, but will decide once I've finished the series (2 more books). If I do not find them massively more enjoyable, I will donate all 3 to a charity shop at the end of this month. 3* *** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 037 Drowning by T.J. Newman Page Count : 304 T.J. Newman's 2nd book, Drowning will grab you within seconda of starting and most definately not let go until you have finished it. This is a thriller in the literal sense of the word. I first read this book last year as an advanced reading ebook from Netgalley and the author. I loved it as much this time as I did the first time and finished the entire book in 24 hours. This book has an additional chapter which is exclusive to the Waterstones edition which is where i I bought it using part of my birthday Waterstones last year. This chapter is set a number of years after the original end of the story. I will definately read this boo again in the future and cannot recommend it enough. If the author writes another book like this one, I will definitely buy it. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 036. USS Cunningham Quintet book 3 Seafighter by James H.Cobb, narrated by Nicol Zanzarella Audiobook length : 18 hours 55 minutes This is another favourite book of mine and this audio book is right up there with the physical book. Commander Amanda Lee Garrett and her ship, the USS Cunningham, are out of action with the Cunningham in drydock for repairs and upgrades after the Chinese Civil War which left it badly damaged. Meanwhile in Africa, a Nigerian army officer is beginning to build an empire of his own and it is up to the United Nations to put a stop to it. To stop this, Commander Amanda Garrett is reassigned to a new type of naval combat force and given the necessary tools to try to stop the empire builder. A fantastic naval thriller novel dealing with a different type of combat, Littoral warfare (Coastal warfare), this is an absolutely fantastic novel and one that I will definitely read again in the future physically and will also listen to it again as well. The narrator, Nicol Zanzarella, does a fantastic job again with all of the different characters and their very different accents. I cannot recommend this book enough. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 035 The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi Page Count : 272 This is one of my favourite books because it is just so easy to read. Originally I had only listened to this book as an audiobook narrated by Wil Wheaton, but knew that I would eventually buy it as a physical book. Towards the end of last year, I found this book in a nearby charity shop I knew I had to have it. Reading it for the first time as physical book and I absolutely loved it. I loved all of the science fiction references to films that I enjoy including Pacific Rim. I will definitely read this book again in the future and can't recommend it highly enough. If you like Wil Wheaton's performance of other audio books, then this book will be for you. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 034. The Warrior With Broken Wings by Thorsten Brandl Page Count : 355 I was sent a free copy of this book by the Author (via Amazon) in exchange for a review. As I read the prequel to this book (The Palladium) during March I knew I wanted to read this one very soon after finishing the Palladium as the main character is introduced towards the end of that book. The Palladium was published after this book, but the Palladium is actually the 1st book to read. As soon as I started reading this book, I knew I was going to enjoy it as I read the first 16% (54 pages) very quickly. During this book, the author had introduced lots of pop culture references that I recognised and certain of them even made me laugh. This book has all kind of elements which I enjoy including fantasy and science fiction. I don't want to say more than that as it would spoil parts of the book's plot. I will most definitely read this book and it's prequel again in the future and hope that the author will finish the third book and send it to me to review as I will be happy to do so. I will also be happy to read anything else he writes in the future. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 033. USS Cunningham Quintet book 2 Sea Strike / Storm Dragon by James H.Cobb, narrated by Nicol Zanzarella Audiobook length : 11 hours 17 minutes Nicol Zanzarella has done another fantastic job narrating this book and she is definitely making this series some of my favourite audiobooks I've ever listened to. Listening to her performance of these books is making it feel like I haven't read these books before even though I have read them physically numerous times in the past 25 years since I purchased the 1st book as a physically. Commander Amanda Lee Garrett and her ship, the USS Cunningham are back in action and this time it's going to be big! Mainland China has been invaded by the armed forces of the nation of Taiwan and a full blown civil war has erupted. The Cunningham is assigned to the command of Task Force 7.1 which is being led by the aircraft USS Enterprise CVN-65, but it's mission is to be an independent intelligence gathering platform. During one of it's intelligence gathering missions, the Cunningham kicks over a hornets nest when she discovers a massive escalation which could lead to the civil war going nuclear on both sides. The United States Navy and it's allies on the Pacific Rim will have to intervene and stop the threat of a nuclear escalation. Filled with bucket loads of naval action, this audio book should have been a challenging performance for the narrator, but she pulled it off admirably especially with all of the Asian names to be pronounced and accents to be performed plus all of the military terminology she would have no doubt had to learn. I will definitely listen to these books again in the future and have absolutely no problem of recommending these books if you want an easy listen. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

Hello Everyone, I hope you had a good Easter ? I had quite a good reading month this March, finishing 7 physical books (3 rereads and 4 new) as well as 5 audio books (all of which were new to me). I would have liked to read a few more physical new books, but I decided to read a few shorter books earlier in March to get a few extra books on the finished side of the equation as soon as possible. My TBR on 31st March ย was 212 physical books and 19 audio books. I do have an audible membership going on at the moment which is going to give me several new books in the next few months, so even though I'm listening to a good amount of audiobooks each month, my audio TBR will stay around the same mark for a couple of months until I can finish a large number of them. I read 2216 pages and listened to 3211 minutes of audio books between March 1st and March 31st which I'm very happy about but would have preferred more physical book pages read which I'm going to aim for in April. Here are my ratings for the books I finished during March. ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ - 9 finished books Crimson Tide (Physical) - 239 pages Ghostbusters (Physical) - 192 pages Ghostbusters II (Physical) - 184 pages Bobiverse #4 Heaven's River (Audiobook) The Silent Service #1 Grayback Class (Physical) - 414 pages Roadkill (Audiobook) The Palladium (Physical) - 327 pages Stardust (Audiobook) The USS Cunningham Quintet #1 Choosers of the Slain (Audiobook) ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ - None ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ ย - 2 finished books (physical) Meltdown (Physical) - 286 pages Down South - A Falklands War Diary (Physical) - 355 pages ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ - None ๐ŸŒŸ - 1 finished book (audio) Silver Tower (Audiobook) IN PROGRESS : The Warrior with Broken Wings (Physical) - 162 pages out of 355 pages finished in March The USS Cunningham Quintet #2 Sea Strike (Audiobook) DNF : Surviving to Drive (Audiobook) How many books did you read in March ? Have you read or listened to any of the books I finished in March ? Post your thoughts in the comments. Look for my April wrap up post which will hopefully have more physical books on it instead of audio books.

2024 Review 032. USS Cunningham Quintet book 1 Choosers of the Slain by James H.Cobb, narrated by Nicol Zanzarella Audiobook length : 11 hours 17 minutes This series of naval thrillers have always been a favourite of mine, every time I found out a new one was being released I would buy it especially when I found out that the 5th and final book was finally being released in physical form years after it had been written and several years after the author passed away. When I found that the books had been released as audiobooks, I knew I had to have them and bought them without hesitation. This is a fantastic book about a United States Navy stealth guided missile destroyer, the USS Cunningham DDG-79, commanded by Commander Amanda-Lee Garrett which is sent to blockade the Antarctic peninsula from the Argentinian Navy. There are fantastically written naval combat action sequences in this book with it's fantastic cast of characters who I very rapidly came to care about. As this is an audiobook rather than a physical book, I was hoping the narrator, Nicol Zanzarella, would do it justice and her performance was one of the best I've ever listened to in all of the audiobooks I've listened to since I started listening to audiobooks. Nicol made it so easy to differentiate between the various characters as she tried and managed to create different voices for each character including several different accents including lots of different American voices, several British and Argentinian (Spanish sounding) voices. If you have read these books and want to experience them in a different way, then I recommend Nicol Zanzarella's reading of them 100%. As soon as I finished book 1, I went straight onto Book 2 Sea Strike. Note : 24 minutes of this audiobook is a free preview of the second book, Sea Strike. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 030. Meltdown by Max Marlow Page Count : 286 I have read this book several times in the past and always enjoyed it. Meltdown is a story about how a natural disaster (a volcanic eruption) can affect the world's climate by causing a cloud of dust which blocked out the sun and cause massive a climate change including floods and extreme temperatures in countries which do not normally experience them. The story is a mix of lots of scientific talk, disaster, tragedy and romance. This time, I enjoyed the story but found the characters a litte flat. While you learn a lot about them, you don't really get a good feeling about them as there is so much that happens to the characters you can't get a grip on them. I've decided that this time I will hand this book over to a charity shop as soon as my monthly wrap post photo has been taken. 3* *** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 029. Stardust written and narrated by Neil Gaiman Audiobook length : 6 hours 21 minutes I really wasn't sure about this book when I started listening to it despite the fact that I have in the past read the physical book. I thought I was going to end up DNFing it, but after a while began to get into it and eventually really enjoyed it. Neil Gaiman does a great job of narrating this book and eventually I was looking forward to listening to more of it. As someone who enjoyed the film, I thought there would be more similarities to the film, but I have to say that there aren't. If you have seen the film and want to find out where the idea came from then either read the book or listen to the audiobook. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 DNF Review 05. Surviving to Drive written and narrated by Guenther Steiner Audiobook length : 7 hours 40 minutes. Having previously listened to this book, I decided to listen I wanted to listen to it again. Unfortunately, this time I didn't enjoy it as much as I did previously. I found my attention wandering and that I was getting bored. I still found some parts of what Guenther had written funny because of the way he was reading it, but unfortunately, that wasn't enough for me to listen to another 6 hours of this book. I returned the book to Audible as soon as I made the decision to stop listening to it. DNF After 1 hour 43 minutes (22%)

2024 Review 028. The Palladium by Thorsten Brandl Page Count : 327 pages Thank you to the author, Thorsten Brandl, for the free copy to review. I normally don't stay up late on a work night to finish a book, but I did with this book. I was absolutely hooked on this book almost as soon as I started reading it. This is an amazingly crafted story and I certainly did not expect the plot to grab me like it did. I loved the characters and the detail the author had put into them. When I first started reading this book, I contacted the author saying that I hadn't wanted to put the book down when I first started reading it and was told that he had crafted the book with lots of cliffhangers to make it grab the attention of the readers. I certainly didn't get bored reading this book as it was gripping and I will most definitely read it again in the future. I will certainly look to read the author's other book in the future and any other books he may write in the future. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 027. Silver Tower by Dale Brown, narrated by Richard Allen Audiobook length : 6 hours 34 minutes. As someone who has physically read and enjoyed this book in the past, when I saw this book was abridged, I knew there would be differences, but not how many differences there would be and how much of the book has been cut out. I found the bits of missing dialogue distracting. I won't listen to this audio book again and will be returning it on Audible as soon as possible. Some of the sections that were removed introduced characters and also some parts were extremely significant including action sequences. In one case, a whole month in the time of the story went past between scenes being read which really made it hard to understand what was happening especially as it involved one of the main characters. There were several bits of dialogue which ended suddenly as if the narrator had just decided not to read the entire sentence or paragraph. The narrator also didn't attempt to make different accents for each character, but only a few of them. His Russian accents are awful. This is a great space based military thriller when read in its original form and I won't hesitate to read the physical book in future, but this book is almost unrecognisable as the original book. I will be posting this review to my goodreads, storygraph and audible as a warning not to buy this audio book if you have read the original physical book. 1* * ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 026. Roadkill by Dennis E. Taylor, narrated by Ray Porter Audiobook length : 8 hours 58 minutes. I absolutely loved this book especially all of the Star Trek references. I found this book making me chuckle to myself numerous, especially when the snarky alien spaceship's AI called Sheldon made a comment to the crew that found his ship. I have now listened to 5 books by Dennis E. Taylor and have loved all of them. I will definitely listen to this audio book again as it is a very easy to listen to book, especially as Ray Porter has done a fantastic job of narrating this book. If you like easy listening science fiction books, then I 100% recommend this book. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 025. The Silent Service #1 Grayback class by H.Jay Riker Page Count : 414 The last time I read this book I wasn't sure if I would keep this book or the other 4 in the series. This time I read it with a view to deciding if I want to keep it and I said to myself that I would read it without focusing on any potential errors that I noticed last time . I really enjoyed this book and found the submarine action excellent. There was a great deal of special forces action as well which was also amazing. I am going to read the remainder of this series of books before I make a decision to keep them, but I imagine will at last keep the first 3 books in the series. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 024. Bobiverse Book 4 Heaven's River by Dennis E. Taylor, narrated by Ray Porter Audiobook length : 16 hours 57 minutes. I'm listening to this after a few months break from the other books and I've realised how much I love these books and their Star Trek references. This book had a major reference to Star Trek The Voyage Home within the first two hours, think Pavel Chekov and his nuclear wessels ๐Ÿ˜ This book is the second longest audiobook that I listened to so far this year and I finished it in 11 days. I absolutely loved this book and despite the fact that there wasn't a much space stuff in it, I still enjoyed it. This book was a first contact situation between the bobs and an alien race who apparently resemble oversized otters. I loved the fact that there were a group of Bobs who had become part of Starfleet and a separate group who were obviously meant to represent the Borg from Starfleet and even had important characters called Hugh and Locutus which Trekkies will recognise for their importance to Star Trek. I will definitely listen to this series of books again. Dennis E.Taylor has written a fantastic series of books and if there are any more books in this series, I will definitely be getting them as audiobooks especially if Ray Porter narrates them. Ray Porter has one again done a fantastic narrating this book and series. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

I've read this book several times in the 2 years since I got the book and each time I find myself enjoying it. A massively more detailed version of the Ghostbusters story this is a fantastic book and one that I enjoy reading everytime I read it. I decided to read this book before the release of the latest Ghostbusters film, Frozen Empire, this month but I wish I had a book of Ghostbusters Afterlife which has never been released. If you are a fan of Ghostbusters, then I can't recommend this book enough. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

2024 Review 021. Crimson Tide by Richard Hendrick Page Count : 239 Crimson Tide has always been one of my favourite films. The combination of Gene Hackman as Captain Ramsey and Denzel Washington as his executive officer, Lt Commander Ramsey is absolutely fantastic. This book is another of my favourite film novelisations and I never get bored of reading it. Featuring all of the action from the film and more, this book is absolutely fantastic and I recommend it as much as possible. 5* ***** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

New #bookhaul and #bookmail this week. I meant to post this on #worldbookday but forgot. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Here we have 3 charity shop finds (Firearms and Fatals, War With Russia and Fairy Tale) plus 2 bookmail arrivals (Articles of the Federation and Firewall). Star Trek Picard : Firewall by David Mack is the latest Star Trek book to be released here in the UK and tells the story of Seven of Nine beginning approximately 2 years after the USS Voyager returns from the Delta Quadrant and its epic journey. Articles of the Federation is an older Star Trek book by Keith R.A. DeCandido which tells the story of the first year of Federation President Nan Bacco's administration. It has been described as the West Wing meets Star Trek. Firearms and Fatals is the true story of Sergeant Harry Tangye's 30 year policing career. I first heard about this book in a live stream between Harry, Dave from @k9finn and John Nichol about a new book John was releasing at that time, so I've been looking for it since then. Fairy Tale by Stephen King is a book that I started as an audio book recently but found that I was finding it hard going to listen to it as an audio book. That is normally the case for me when listening to a Stephen King book rather than reading it for the 1st time. So when I saw it, I knew I had to get it to be able to read a book that intrigued me. War With Russia is written by a former army officer and is based around NATO War game simulations. This is not a non fiction book, but is a fiction story. Again this is another book I saw years ago and meant to get. These 3 charity books all came from 3 different charities, so by buying these books I have helped Oxfam, Cancer Research and Cats Protection continue their important work. I always try to buy used books unless they are ones I collect (Star Trek or buy the few authors whose entire collection I have). Look for my reviews soon.

2024 Review 013. Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline, narrated by Wil Wheaton Audio book Length : 13 hours 46 minutes This is only the 2nd time I have managed to finish the audio book of Ready Player Two. Like a lot of people who love Ready Player One, when i found out that Ready Player Two was coming out I was originally excited. BUT when the reviews started coming out for it, I wasn't as interested so I got the audiobook instead. Unfortunately, I find that this story is not as good as Ready Player One especially the section of the book about Prince. There were several things I noticed that during my listening of this book which are linked to films, TV shows and video games that I've watched or played in the past. One of my favourite parts was that in Chapter 5, Parzival enters a private chat room called Cyberdelia. Cyberdelia is a recreation of a night club from the 1995 movie Hackers which is one of my favourite films along with all the Ghostbusters and Star Trek references. As it had been a couple of years since I had read this book, I had forgotten how to ended and it wasn't what I expected. I'm not sure if this will be an audio book that I will listen to again, but will decide in the future. 4* **** ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
